Ending Two

"Inuyasha… I…"

"Shh… Close your eyes." The lord whispered, gently pulling at her layers of silk. His hands unwrapped her slowly as if he was savoring the moment.

Instead of obeying him, Kagome stared down at his hands, watching him unwrap her. This was something she had fantasized about… but with her own Inuyasha. Her eyes stared into his eyes, noticing how intent his gray eyes were on his task.

His eyes flickered onto hers and seemed to be in pain a moment. "Kagome, it might be easier if you close your eyes."

Kagome shook her head, still looking him in the eye.

"Then… should I act like him? Come here, wench!" His hands tugged on her obi, making it fall away and causing her to lose her balance. Letting out a chuckle his arms wrapped around her body.

"Don't do that." Kagome whispered. Her hands rested on his firm chest. Lightly she touched the silk collar of his kimono. Her eyes glanced up at him a moment.

His eyes stared down at her like she was the only woman in the world. Slowly his hands untied his hakama and let the pants fall to the ground, allowing his kimono to open.

Kagome's hands moved from silk collar to skin, silently exploring his well-toned chest. Each muscle seemed to dance under her touch. Fingers danced to his sides, until his own fingers stopped them.

"That tickles." Nervously biting his lip, his fingers trailed up her arms and pushed the kimono off of her shoulders. His arms wrapped around her soft body, pulling her close. Her fingers slid down his body resting on his fundoshi. Sucking in his belly gave her room to slide her fingers down under the garment. But she didn't. Instead her fingers explored outside of the cloth. With a gasp, he felt her warm hand nudge against his manhood.

"Did I hurt you?" Kagome whispered.

"No." His hands hastily unfastened the fundoshi, encouraging her to explore. Stepping away a bit, he allowed his eyes to slide up and down her figure. "Have you ever seen a naked man before?"

Slowly Kagome nodded, her own eyes roaming his body, resting on his aroused manhood. "When he bathed… Rather immodest."

"It depends on who is watching." His eyes nervously glanced down to where she looked. For a moment they both stared at him. Quickly he sat down on the pile of pillows and patted the space beside him. "I won't bite. I promise."

Kagome sat demurely, knowing exactly what they were supposed to do. Was she ready? Often at night she had fantasized about it, but that was only a fantasy. Inuyasha had never even tried to be with her in that way. This wasn't the hanyou she knew. His life experiences were different. "I'm a bit nervous. Can you tell me anything about yourself?"

"Myself?" The lord echoed, blinking at her. "I already told you about the curse. What else do you want to know?"

"Tell me anything."

"I like noodles." The lord concentrated on any shred of information she may find interesting. "I prefer the color red."

"Is your mother alive?"

"No… she died. Is your mother…?"

"She's alive. My father is…"

"Oh." Inuyasha closed his eyes, thinking. "One night a month I have white hair and dog ears."

Kagome stared at him in shock.

"My mother told me it was because of my hanyou heritage. No one is allowed to look at me, for fear that they would try and kill me." The lord opened his eyes and stared at her. "That's my little secret. You can get me killed for what you now know."

"My Inuyasha… is like that all the time. He looks like you only one night of the month."

"Then we must be two sides of the same coin. And one night a month… we switch." The lord lay back on the pillows. "Perhaps we are the same person after all… I imagine that when he looks like me, he's kinder to you."

"Yes…"

"When I'm like him I get nasty. My suite is never large enough and I want to leave this place. But I also know to do that would mean the death of everyone here." His eyes regarded hers for some recognition. "Does he have that struggle between duty and desire?"

Kagome stared down at her hands. "I suppose you can call it that."

"It's a loyalty… so deep it takes over my instincts to run away." Sitting up again, he stared at her. His hands touched hers on her lap. "Kagome… I know this must be hard for you. You love him and yet you must be with me." His fingers gently touched her cheek. "I've waited my whole life for you."

"Inuyasha…"

"Close your eyes. Please?"

Kagome obeyed, taking a deep breath.

"Kagome… you mean everything to me. Sometimes I hurt you and I'm sorry. All I want is to love you… but my duty calls me away from that. If only you could understand…" His index finger wiped at her tears. "I would give you anything…" His lips touched her jaw.

Her hands reached out to touch him, wrapping her arms around his warm shoulders, feeling his soft hair against her skin. "Inuyasha…" Her voice was soft with pain. "I…"

"Don't cry, Kagome." His lips took her tears. "I hate seeing you cry. It means I've hurt you. I don't want to hurt you." Gently his hands pushed her back against the pillows and his body moved to cover hers. "Do you want this? Do you want me?"

Slowly her eyes opened and focused on his blue orbs. Black hair cascaded around them. How many times had she wished that his tender human side would act on the desire she saw in his eyes? It was the same look she saw now… a pleading and unvoiced need.

"Don't look at me." Inuyasha gently touched her eyelids with his fingertips. Slowly his fingernail traced down the side of her face to her chin and then traced back up to her lips. "Do you want me?"

Sniffling softly, she nodded.

His lips touched hers almost reverently. Fingers slid down her soft skin, exploring every curve… every fold. Without another word his fingertips pushed into her. For a few moments he stroked, glancing at her face. Her body wasn't responding to his ministrations, as it should have. Her mind wasn't on this… perhaps it was on the one she left behind, his other half. Pulling his fingers out, he positioned himself over her, feeling his tip enter her. Her body was still unresponsive beneath his. "Kagome… I love you." His lips took hers again as tears fell from his own eyes to her cheeks.

Slowly her arms wrapped around him, hugging him closer. Hearing his desperate words and feeling wetness on her cheeks reminded her of the only time she had ever seen Inuyasha cry… when he thought she was dead. No matter how much he mourned for Kikyou, she had never seen him cry for his lost love. It was almost as if it was something he reserved for her alone. Her legs opened wider, feeling him slide deeper within her. There was a bit of friction, but mostly it felt good.

With a gentle sigh, his body pushed against hers over and over, seeking to fill her completely. This was to be his first and only woman and he knew it. And he had promised to set her free. The pain of that promise made it hard to concentrate on his actions, but inevitably the delicious friction made him have to expel within her. For a long time he lay above her, gasping for air. If this was to be his only chance at intimacy… he didn't want it to end.

Kagome opened her eyes and stared up at him.

Rather guiltily he pulled off of her and sat on the matted floor next to his bed. His eyes wouldn't meet hers. Instead they gazed off into the far corner of the room. "As I promised… you are free."

Slowly Kagome sat up and stared at the back of the young lord. Her insides still felt a bit raw from the friction he had generated. "Maybe… I was meant to marry you." Inside she struggled not to think of the other man… the man with white hair she loved so much, but whom she had just betrayed.

"It was the prophecy."

"Maybe, Inuyasha… I met the other you first so I could learn to love you."

The lord looked back at her. "You don't believe that, do you?"

"I don't know what I believe. I woke him, but he was still in love with someone else. And you… all you ever wanted was me." Kagome stared down at her hands.

The lord got up on his hands and knees and crawled to her. "I think he must love you. If I can… then he must too. It would break his heart if you never returned to him." His hands took hers as he stared into her eyes. "I want you to stay… but I only want it to be because you love me. And it's not me your heart yearns for."

"But I betrayed him." Kagome's eyes filled with tears as she stared helplessly at the lord.

His arms pulled her against his chest. "Not in your heart. You love him. I am but a hollow echo of him. Remember that."

"You aren't an echo. You are a living, breathing man… like him. You deserve so much more than this." Her tears were rubbed on his shoulder as she held him. "Let me stay with you. Please."

The lord nodded, holding her tight. "As you wish."

Time passes as it always does. A few weeks found Kagome firmly in her new role as lady of the palace. There were servants and guards to care for her. Her people were happy to have such a pretty lady to temper their lonely lord. Every day she sat patiently at his side as he governed the land. At night she slept in his arms.

One evening he hastily tried to push her out of the room.

"Inuyasha, what is it?" Kagome stared at him, a bit frightened by his sudden change in character.

"It's… better if you aren't here." Clawed hands pushed her towards the door. "Please, Kagome?"

"You're… it's your time of change, isn't it?" Kagome would not be budged. Standing defiantly, she ignored his pushes.

His eyes flashed golden on her as he slowly nodded. Ears slid up his skull and became more like dog ears. Long ebony locks of hair grayed and became white. "I'm sorry."

Kagome stared at the ground, shivering. Up to this point she had tried to move past her old love for the other hanyou… now it was like he stood before her again.

Warm arms wrapped around her, pulling her against a solid chest. "Don't cry, Kagome. You know I hate to see you cry."

Her arms wrapped around him suddenly as she stood on tiptoe to kiss his lips. "Take me… like this. I want to…"

The lord stared down at her for a long moment, as if trying to read her heart. "Like this…" Gently he pushed her down to the floor.

It wasn't like his human form. There were considerable differences physically between the human and the hanyou. Kagome grit her teeth, feeling him move within her. It was a tighter fit but it still felt good. For a moment she wondered if the other Inuyasha would have been as big. If he had ever acted on anything, he would probably have ripped her inexperienced body apart. Her hands played with the white cascade of hair that tumbled down his back.

Inuyasha froze and collapsed on top of her, breathing hard. For a long time he lay there, not looking at her as he felt her legs tighten around his waist. "We shouldn't have… not like this." His body pulled a bit off of her as he finally looked down into her face. "I'm too much like him now."

Kagome closed her eyes, feeling the tears slide down her cheeks. "I'm sorry."

His fingertips gently wiped her tears away. "Don't be sorry. I understand."

Kagome nodded, suddenly feeling drowsy.

Inuyasha stared down at her. It seemed her face had gone paler. His fingers continued to gently stroke her cheek… and then they passed through her cheek onto air. "Kagome…"

Her eyes opened as she stared up at him in confusion. Behind him she could see trees and night sky. "What…?"

His body felt like it was passing through water as his hips slowly eased onto the floor beneath her. "What's going on? Where are you…?" His hands tried to touch her, but there was nothing to touch. "Don't go."

"I don't know what's… Inuyasha… no." Her hands reached for him, but her fingers passed through him. Above him she saw the trees gain solidity.

"My love…" Leaning forward, his lips touched hers as he pulled off a ring, making a prayer to any god that heard to send the ring with her.

Kagome's eyes closed… and then there was no sound but that of leaves rustling. Her senses told her someone was with her. Opening her eyes, she stared up at Inuyasha in his red garments.

"What are you doing out here… like that?" Immediately his arms wrapped around her, pulling her into the protection of his sleeves. "Kagome are you…?" Nervously he sniffed at her skin, smelling his own scent on her. But that couldn't be. They had been separated for a few days.

"Inuyasha?" Her arms surrounded him, holding him close. Quickly her lips touched his a moment before she nestled her head against his shoulder.

Inuyasha froze. His saliva was on her lips. A deeper, more primal scent came from her body… and he knew exactly what it was… his seed. "Where have you been?" As gently as he could, he tried to get her to face him without compromising her modesty with his sleeves. "Kagome, why do you have my… scent? We haven't…"

Kagome stared at his throat, unsure how to begin. "I was in another place… another time… another you. I was your wife." Her hand opened to show him the ring.

Inuyasha stared down at the ring. "That… was my mother's. But it was lost. Where'd you get it?"

"The other you gave it to me… before I came back here."

The hanyou stood, cradling her naked body in his arms. "Keep it. If I gave it to you… then it's yours."

Epilogue

Inuyasha stared dully at the grass, waiting for Kagome to finish her bath. No matter how much she scrubbed, she still held his scent… even though he never touched her in that way. Just the idea that she would let another him touch her like that bothered him. How could she share something so intimate with his other self when she couldn't share it with him? For a moment he pondered how other demons would react. They could smell the connection just as easily as he could. They would assume that she was his mate… not that it really mattered. Being mistaken for her mate wasn't something that bothered him… perhaps it would keep all the competition away. What bothered him was her being with someone else. Wet footsteps alerted him to her approach. "Was he good?"

"Was who good?" Kagome had pulled on a kimono and sat nearby, trying to get rid of the tangles in her hair.

"Him. The one you were with. Was he… good?"

The young woman stopped picking through her hair to stare at him. "He was nice, yes. He was your human side."

Inuyasha stared down at his feet and began to pick at the grass with his toes. Her answer wasn't what he was looking for. "How could you… be with him like that?" His pained eyes concentrated on the grass and his feet.

"He was cursed… until he married someone who's coming was foretold. That someone was I, Inuyasha. He married me and the curse was broken." Kagome stared down at her hands.

Silently he bit his lip, wanting to ask a million prying questions. How many times did she make love to him? Did she know they shared the same scent so others would assume they had mated? Was he a good lover… was she satisfied? Did she want him? Did she regret returning? "He was human?" His voice was soft and full of pain.

"Physically. But he was hanyou. Once a month he became like you are now. In fact… when I left he was… it was his time."

Inuyasha took a deep breath. More questions cascaded through his mind. Did she leave because she was disgusted with this side? Did he try to make love to her in this form? Had he hurt her? "His time…" But she had been found naked with his scent all over her. Had she been with him in that form? "Did he hurt you?"

"Not really." Kagome stared at the ground. "Inuyasha… I'm sorry. He offered to let me go after the first time. But I couldn't face you."

"You couldn't face me?" A scowl crossed his face.

"He knew how I felt about you… and wanted me to go back. But I was afraid."

"Afraid of what? Of me?"

"That you would hate what I did… hate what I had to do. That you wouldn't want me around anymore." Tears fell from her eyes as she covered her face. "It's not me you love. I know that. But he was so much like you… and he loved me. He made me believe you could love me too. But I hurt him too. I didn't want him for himself. I made him take me when he was like you. I know I hurt him. I didn't mean to."

Inuyasha stared down at the ground in shock. All her words washed over him and he found it hard to concentrate on their meaning. Finally he picked out the first thought. "I still want you around. Always… no matter who you fuck."

A low, keening wail escaped her. Slowly she rocked back and forth on her heels.

"If you had chosen any other mate… I would have supported your decision and hoped that we could still… be friends." The scowl on his face said otherwise. If she had mated any other male, his support would be nothing more than accepting his dark fate and quietly drifting off to hell with Kikyou. "But you chose me… just not ME me." A soft sigh escaped him. "Youkai won't know the difference between him and me. All they will smell is my scent on you. So in that sense… we are mated."

Kagome looked up and wiped at her tears.

"You can't fuck anyone else if we are considered mated."

Kagome shook her head. "I don't want anyone else…"

"Good." Hastily Inuyasha stood. Silently he made his way to the tree.

"Does this mean we are… mated?" Kagome didn't look up at him as he jumped.

"Well… I won't be fucking anyone else. The hanyou form… fit, right?" Settling on the tree branch, he closed his eyes.

"Yes."

"Good." Inuyasha yawned, tired of thinking about Kagome with his other self. Regardless, she was his now. There was time to take her without worrying about whom would come first. His other had bought him time. His other was gone. There was a twinge of sympathy deep within his hanyou heart. His other self had lost so much. Fate could have just as easily gone the other way.

Kagome finally looked up into the tree at him. Silently she pulled on the ring and settled beneath the shade. Closing her eyes, she could almost feel the tender arms of her husband. His arms rocked her to sleep.
