InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Other Side ❯ Preparing ( Chapter 5 )

“Inuyasha… What do you mean? How are we not in our world anymore?” Kagome asked. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
“Just what I said. You remember the world between this world and the next, right, Kagome? Well, when I went beyond the barrier that is exactly what it looked like. Myoga always told me that it is no place for the living, and those little imps said the same fucking thing. That Gate didn't make a barrier around the city; it took it to another dimension.” He told them. Letting out a sigh, he leaned back into the hospital bed.
“No… it can't be. Then what is the point in fighting the demon's if there is no way of getting back… I have to go back.” Hojo whispered. He slumped against the wall and slid down, landing on the cold floor.
“That's not what I said, baka. Just because your world isn't on the other side doesn't mean we can't get back. We just have to find away.” Inuyasha snapped. “Don't go crying because that option failed. Find another.”
“What do you suggest then, hanyou?!” He snapped back, glaring at Inuyasha.

A growl escaped Inuyasha's throat as he glared back at the boy.
“Knock it off, Hojo! We would never be this close to escape if it weren't for Inuyasha. And Inuyasha, don't provoke him.” steamed Kagome. Both boys ceased what they were doing, afraid to tic of the miko. She glared at them for a second then began to walk around the room deep in thought.
Katsu chuckled slightly at the scene that had just taken place. Both of them knew not to get on Kagome's bad side. “Do you have any plans, Kagome-san?”
“I don't know…” She whispered as she continued her pacing.
“Well if not, I have things to attend to.” He said before exiting the room.
Inuyasha flopped back on the bed with a deep sigh, “Kami, that jii-jii smells!”
“Don't say such rude things to your elders, Inuyasha-kun.” Hojo instructed. He couldn't believe that Inuyasha just said a rude thing out load, “He could have heard you, ya know.”
“Feh! I can say what I want.” He retorted back.
“No you can't. You have to respect the elderly and the elder of the village! It's common sense.”
“Common sense for a wussy.” He laughed. Hojo jumped up from his seat on the ground, hands fisted.
“Will you guys be quiet for just one second?” Kagome snapped. She stopped her pacing and looked at Inuyasha. “Inuyasha, the Gate got us here… So do you think maybe it could take us back?”
“Dunno, maybe, I guess. I really don't know what the fuck the Gate can do. It's worth a shot but we have to take it away from the demons first.” He stretched his arms over his head and was about to get out of the bed, but suddenly he stopped and pulled the covers back over his legs. “Where are my clothes?” He asked, blushing. He was only wearing a couple of bandages and his fundoushi.
She tossed the pile of his clothing and under armor over to him, he caught it. She had a slight blush on her face. “The nurses took them off so we could dress your cuts. You can probably take off the bandages. The cuts are probably healed by now.” She walked over and pulled one off, “Yep, all healed up and ready to go.” She said with a smile. He smirked back. “Come on, Hojo. We'll wait outside.” She and Hojo both walked out the door.
",
Entering back into the room, they found Inuyasha standing by the open window with a glare on his face.
“Inuyasha shut the window! It's winter outside, you know.” Kagome squealed.
Hojo noticed the look on Inuyasha's face, “what's wrong, Inuyasha-kun?”
“I smell youkai.” He growled. Both dashed to the window, Kagome shivered as she finally noticed the youki.
One of the youki though, stood out amongst the rest and it was the strongest. Her heart rate began to quicken. “Naraku…” She whispered. “Hojo! Go tell and tell everyone to get inside the safe houses! It's Naraku!” She ordered. Hojo's eyes widened as fear rushed through his body. He rushed out the door as fast as his legs could go.
“Kagome, what is this Naraku guy like? Is he strong?” Inuyasha asked her.
“Yes, he is. He may not look so tuff, but he is the strongest and the most evil of them all.” She said as she and Inuyasha left the room at a fast pace.
“Why the fuck is his name Naraku? Is he like a reincarnation or—“
“No, he's not a reincarnation or anything like that. He's just evil and darkness is a pretty common evil name, Inuyasha. It doesn't have to belong to just one villain.” She informed him. Reaching the outside, she began to run towards the shrine.
“Kagome, hang on.” He ordered as he snatched her and adjusted her on his back. An alarm rang causing Inuyasha's ears to go back. They ran pasted people as they rushed to the safety houses. In no time at all, they reached the bottom of the steps.
“Inuyasha, wait at the bottom of the stairs! I have to put up the barrier around the shrine!” She yelled. Turning around, she dashed up the stairs and disappeared out of his sight.
Inuyasha turned as he heard foot steps to see Souta running toward the steps. “Hi.” He said quickly as he dashed up the steps. A pinkish glow encircled the shine, becoming a barrier.
A few moments later, Inuyasha saw Kagome dash down the steps wearing her miko attire; he bent down so she could climb onto his back, then they were off. “Kagome, why doesn't your brother stay with the other villagers?” He asked.
She let out a sigh, “I can't explain now.”
Kagome led him to a large round metal building, they went inside. All along the walls and on racks were weapons of many kinds. Many people were rushing in and out with weapons; wielding them or passing them onto another. Kagome went over to an area and picked out a bow and a small katana. “You ready Inuyasha?” She asked as she slid her sword through her obi.
He shrugged, “I'm ready and able.” He turned when he heard footsteps approaching them. Hayate and Hojo were running up to them, ready for battle.
“Kagome, the men are ready. All we're waiting on is your orders.” Said Hojo as he gave his naginata a firm grip.
“Hayate-sensei, take divisions 4, 8, and 6 and go protect the safe houses. Hojo and I will take the rest and divide them. One group will protect the wall while the rest will take the lines. Do you agree?”
“Yes, Kagome-sama, but can I add group 9 as well?” Hayate questioned.
“No. The archers get the wall.” She answered him.
“What about him?” He motioned towards Inuyasha. Inuyasha gave him a glare.
“Inuyasha will help me. And I think he would prefer to be under his own rule, knowing him.” She said. Turning around, she left the building and jumped on top of a barrel and yelled to her men, “Alright! You guys know what to do! All archers and guards will protect the wall and Yuudai will lead you! 4, 6, and eight will guard the villagers! And the rest of you to the front! You will be under Inuyasha, Hojo, and I's command, got it?!”
Inuyasha was impressed; her warriors followed her orders without any second thought. He could tell they were loyal and willing to do anything she said. The amount of warriors was small, probably because of the fight from two days ago. Many were stilled injured. But they didn't seem afraid. They had survived this long under her command; there was no reason for them to doubt her. She had become a great leader.

&nb sp; “Ugh! It smells like shit down here.” Inuyasha complained as he followed Kagome through a long system of tunnels. He held his sleeve to cover his face from the odor.
“That's because we're in the subway, Inuyasha. How many times do I have to tell you?” She gripped her torch. She was beginning to get short with him. They were going through the subway tunnels because the area that she felt youki was hard to reach. The easiest way was through the subways. It was hard to reach because fallen skyscrapers were all over the place. It was the area that the demons first attached, and there had hardly ever been a fight there sense then.
Inuyasha let out a yelp when he felt something sharp poke him in the behind. Turning around to face his attacker, he saw Hojo sheepishly smiling at him, holding his Naginata close to him. “Sorry,” He apologized, “wasn't paying attention.” Inuyasha just growled and continued on, rubbing the sore spot. He shot a glare at Kagome when he heard her giggle.
“Why the Naginata?” Hojo heard Inuyasha ask.
“You aren't going to make fun of me because I use a woman's weapon are you?” Hojo asked with a glare.
“A woman's weapon? Not it my time, they aren't. As long as a weapon gets the job done, it doesn't matter what it is.” Hojo just stared at him, not sure if he believed him or not. He was use to the other guys his age to make fun of him for it, but Inuyasha was right. Whatever worked.
They continued for a while longer, in silence. The only light they got was from the torches or the occasional stop. Inuyasha remembered how all the humans pushed and shoved to get in one of those metal snakes. It seemed strange for a place that was once so crowded to be so abandoned. “How much longer?” He finally asked.
“We'll get there in a little bit. It will take awhile for all us to be out of the subway.” Hojo answered him.
“We're so vulnerable in here. Why haven't they attached us yet?”
Kagome answered him this time, “They wait until we're ready. It's kinda strange. Even when they attack the village, they just sit outside and wait for us to attack first.”
“Well that's stupid. Demons usually just go in and fight. Unless you're just some scavengers, you wait till the fight is over to take care of the scraps.” Inuyasha growled in confusion.
“Maybe they're being honorable.” Hojo cut in.
“My ass they are! They attacked you guys for no reason and keep you inside a bubble. That's weakness.”
“Says you! They're strong!” They heard someone behind them comment.
“Feh! If there so strong, wouldn't you guys be dead by now, hn?”
He saw Kagome nod in agreement. Glancing forward, he saw light up ahead. They walked around a curve and sure enough, there was the stairway to the exit. Kagome motioned for them to stop. He heard a shuffle as people began to ready their weapons. “Two days later, and another battle,” Hojo sighed.
“Let's go.” Inuyasha commanded. As they ascended the steps, a small figure came into view at the top. It was a boy, no older then eleven, with pale skin and reddish hair. Inuyasha's golden eyes met his red, and he shivered. There was something evil about the boy.
Kagome gasped, “Naraku!”
“Finally you guy came! You're late!” With a speed Inuyasha wasn't expecting, the boy jumped in front of Inuyasha and grabbed his hand before he could draw tetsusaiga, “Finally we meet, Inuyasha-sama. I have waited for so long to meet you.” He grinned at Inuyasha, showing all his sharp and pointy teeth, and an evil glint in his eye. Inuyasha took a swipe at him with his claws, but he leapt out of the way in the nick of time.

Chapter End Notes:
Welcome to history with the amazing Mayu-sama! Many of you probably don't know the history of the Great Isolation era of Japan! So here I am to tell you as simple as possible! Yay!
It all began in 1603, I think, when the Tokugawa clan became the shoguns for Japan. The Philippines were invaded by some European country, and the shogun heard about it, so he blocked off all trade with other countries because he thought they would do the same to them. Except for a port in Nagasaki, there was no outward contact. He kicked out all foreigners and banned all foreign books. Isolation officially began in 1633, I think, and Japan was its own world. Through out this era, trade and agriculture amongst themselves was high and it was somewhat peaceful. The Confucianism idea was very strong in this era as well. During this era, the shogun thought Christians were not loyal to him because of the pope, so he persecuted thousands. In a way it seemed that the Tokugawa's were trying to purify Japan. So I thought this would be a good era for the youkai to be slain. People always wonder what happened to the demons in Kagome's time, so here is my explanation. K? Youkai are strongest when war, death, and turmoil are at its high. So during this era, they were somewhat week, and the Tokugawa clan took this as an advantage to slay them. The isolation ended in 1853 when the American Perry guy came and opened the ports again.
This is all I have for you today! Any questions, just ask by my contact link on the main page of my little area.
