AN: I do not own any of the characters from Inuyasha. I do not make any money doing this.

Kagome's past has pushed her to succeed in her later adult life. Living in a world that still showed discrimination, she still refuses to let that incident shape how she sees people. Wanting to help those around her, she ends up hiring a certain hanyou as her assistant.

Chapter Six - Sleep Over

Nobody commented on their boss's mass email informing everyone she would be taking a week off of work. Kagome had never taken time off before, but it wasn't a secret as to why she had sent that email out. If her employees and friends didn't see the situation in person, there were articles already posted on competing sites and social media pages. The usually happy but somewhat noisy office was completely quiet, they all felt such sadness for their boss they called a friend.

Everyone asked Inuyasha for updates on Kagome, as he was the only one who had seen her since the spectacle, to which he always responded with, "keh. How do you think she's doing?"

After she had told him the story, he stayed by her side every day. He had gotten Rin to let Shippo stay at their house for a little while, and explained to the small boy that he needed to help someone important. Sensing his father's intentions, Shippo nodded with a smile hoping that he would eventually gain a mother from this.

Kagome had given him her spare key after the second night he came by unannounced, not that she minded especially when she realized he had brought food for both of them. Stepping in through the front door, Inuyasha placed his keys and the bag of food on the kitchen counter. It felt weird, almost like he was coming home to his wife.

But she was his boss, and his friend.

Yeah, had to remember the boss part.

Fuck, he was in too deep. The hardest part was he never wanted to leave.

Kagome awoke in the middle of the night and was acutely aware of the arms wrapped around her. Not wanting to wake up her protector, she tried to stay still but slowly tilted her head up to see his face. He looks so peaceful, she smiled.

Shrugging her shoulder out of his hold, she reached up and gently traced the outline of his lips. She knew what she felt was wrong, but couldn't bring herself to say no to him especially when she enjoyed his company.

Inuyasha peeked an eye open and watched the woman in his arms, waiting to see when she would realize he was awake too.

"Inuyasha?" she whispered out. "D-did I wake you?"

"No," his golden eyes looked into hers. "Everything okay?"

"Y-yeah, I was just thinking," a blush came to her cheeks when she noticed her fingers were still barely touching his lips. Pulling her hand away, Kagome looked down to hide her embarrassment.

"Kagome," the sound of her name made her look back up at him. His gaze moved down to her lips and used his free hand to gently wipe the hair off of her face. Slowly moving his head towards hers, he paused right before his lips touched hers.

Realizing what was happening, Kagome swallowed her nerves and closed the gap. The kiss was sweet and longing, filled with emotion and care. Never had she ever felt like this before, she had truly believed she could never trust a man in that sense again.

But she was wrong. Somehow this man managed to find a place deep in her heart.

The next morning was awkward, but she knew it was a conversation that needed to happen. Looking up from her cup of coffee, she watched the silver haired half-demon get ready for work.

"Thank you," she spoke out. "For watching over me here, and there."

"Keh, it's no worries," he smiled out.

"Inuyasha," she sighed out. "What are we doing?"

He froze for a second, and then slowly placed the coffee pot back down. "What do you mean?"

"A-am I wrong in thinking something's happening between us?"

"Is it a bad thing?" He asked nervously.

"It's just," Kagome looked back down at her coffee mug and traced the sides with her fingers. "I'm technically your boss and all. I-it just feels like I should have stopped it," she admitted. "And I'm sorry for putting you in such an awkward position and I never meant to make you feel like I'm taking advantage of you."

"You didn't force me into anything," Inuyasha raised an eyebrow and walked up to her. Putting his arms around her, he pulled her into a close hug. "Do you want to stop?" He whispered into her hair.

"No," her arms wrapped around him in return.

AN: So this chapter was mostly sweet fluff, but I love writing them together.

Thank you to all the reviews I've received so far. I didn't know how people would react to the subject matter in this story, especially when some of the issues written in here are ones that we face in society today.
