InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Phoenix ❯ We Need to Talk ( Chapter 9 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

AN: I do not own any of the characters from Inuyasha. I do not make any money doing this.

Alright, so this chapter is just total fluffy mush to a point where if you have cavities, it might hurt a little. Teehee, but honestly, it is a lot of relationship fluff and I loved writing all of it. So, this story will probably be shorter than my other ones, and is more than likely coming up on the end soon. I don't know exactly when.

Kagome's past has pushed her to succeed in her later adult life. Living in a world that still showed discrimination, she still refuses to let that incident shape how she sees people. Wanting to help those around her, she ends up hiring a certain hanyou as her assistant.

Chapter Nine - We Need to Talk

Work was a nightmare. Without another person to field all the incoming pieces of paper, Kagome found herself surrounded by small towers on her desk. A firm knock came on the other side of the wooden door shaking her out of her thoughts.

"Come in," she called out.

The stacks of paper effectively blocked her view of just who had come into her office. Not bothering to look up, she kept reading the material in front of her.

"What's up?" Kagome mumbled out, not really paying attention to the figure slowly coming around the desk. Not hearing an answer, she raised an eyebrow but refused to tear herself away. If she didn't get through all the paperwork today, she would surely have to deal with twice as much Monday.

"Koibito," he whispered into her ear as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "It's time to go home."

"Huh?" Looking up, she looked out of her office window noticing it was completely dark. "What time is it?"

"Eight," he replied. "And it's a Friday. Don't people usually leave early on Fridays?"

"Maybe if those people had an assistant," she grumbled out as she lightly threw the paper back onto the surface in front of her. "Wait… Where's Shippo? Isn't it his bedtime?"

Inuyasha chuckled. Releasing his hold on her shoulders, he spun her chair around until he was looking at her worried expression.

"I got Sess and Rin to watch him this weekend. We had plans. Remember, Koi?" He wasn't upset that she hadn't showed up yet since he knew exactly where she would be, but he was pleased to see how much she had come to care for the kit.

Kagome groaned out and hunched her shoulders over. "I'm sorry, Inuyasha," she whispered out.

"I packed your bag for you and there's some food in the car. Come?" He asked as he reached out, offering a hand to help her stand up.

"Please tell me you packed sweatpants," she smiled. Taking his offer, she felt him pull her upright and into his arms.

"You mean the really old looking ones?" He laughed. Pulling himself back, he placed a kiss on her forehead. "Yeah, I did. I'm glad you're trying so hard to impress me."

"Sweatpants aren't sexy?" Kagome asked innocently.

"Sure," he smirked as he walked both of them out of the office door. "As long as you're not wearing anything else."

The drive to the cabin had been quiet, mainly because Kagome had forgotten that this was the weekend. The romantic weekend she had been daydreaming about all week, causing said papers to pile up into a miniature version of Tokyo.

Inuyasha picked up on her increased heart rate and the smell anxiety rolling off of her. Reaching over, he placed a hand on her thigh and squeezed gently.

"Nervous?"

"Kinda," she closed her eyes and rested her head against the seat.

"We don't have to do anything you're not ready for," his demon roared out internally at the idea of not being able to be with the woman he cherished with his entire being. But it wasn't risking Kagome's trust in him, especially considering her past.

"I trust you," she whispered out.

He let out a deep breath, and had to fight the urge to fist-pump the air in celebration. They had become more intimate, but it never went past just fooling around due to Shippo being present a few rooms down the hall. While he cared for his son, it was definitely a mood killer. Hence why they were now headed out of town to the vacation home his family owned.

"We're going to get there kind of late if you want to sleep in the car," he stated. "I thought we were going to leave a little earlier in the day."

"I'm sorry," she frowned.

"Don't be sorry, Koibito. I understand," he glanced over with a happy smile.

"There's something I need to talk to you about before we do anything," he announced as they entered through the front door. Placing the bags on the hallway floor, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and led her to the couch.

Motioning for her to sit down, he took a seat next to her. His golden eyes shined with intensity while her stormy eyes stared back nervously.

"Kagome," he sighed out. "If you want to do that, there are some things you should know."

"What is it?"

"I-I want you to be my mate," he forced the words out. "Which means that if we go to the next point, we would be considered 'married' in demon terms."

"M-married?" Her voice broke.

"Mhm," he nodded and placed his hands over hers. "Dog demons mate for life, Kagome. I use the word 'marriage' because that's the closest thing I can think of in human terms. The short version of the story is that I'll be dedicated to you for the rest of my life."

Kagome could see the deep need in his eyes, "what's the long version?"

"Your life span will be matched to mine," he started off. "I'll be possessive and want to provide for you in every way possible. Also, it means a lot of sex."

Kagome blushed deeply but refused to tear away from the eye contact. "And just to confirm, there's no going back after this?"

"Y-yeah," he stuttered. Did she not want this like he did?

Kagome kept looking into his honey colored eyes. Thinking back to when she first met him, she smiled. Had it really been almost a year? The time flew by quickly, and she loved every moment. He had been patient with her, and she didn't feel nearly as depressed as she usually did around now. Even when she received her annual vase of flowers delivered to her desk, she kept smiling.

Here was a man who loved her, cared for her, and not once tried to push her into anything. He helped her heal without even knowing it. Did she really love him?

Her eyes traced down his facial features, adoring every inch of his being. Yeah, of course she loved him. She loved him with every piece of her soul, and here he was, offering to promise the rest of their lives together.

Could she step up and be a step mother to Shippo? She smirked slightly at the thought, of course she would. She had always wanted children.

"Can I still keep the old sweatpants?"

"Yes," he could feel his lips tugging upwards into a small smile.

"Then yes," she smiled back.

AN: Not sure if I should add a lemon or not. Lemme know what you guys want.
