The Power of the Four Souls

Inuyasha coughed. The metallic scent of blood filled his nostrils. Glancing around he saw Sango's boomerang in pieces covering her own tattered body, Miroku was laying motionless by his staff, Shippo and Kirara were also granted eternal sleep after the drawn out battle with Naraku. But Naraku was dead now, Inuyasha was sure of it. He himself was bloodied and exhausted but that didn't matter to him. Only one thing was on his mind.

Crawling through the carnage, he winced from a pain in his foot. He had stumbled over one Kagome's sacred arrows. He sniffed around but found no relief. Panicked, he sat up, despite the horrible pain, and saw a flash of white in the midst of red. Kagome was covered in blood but her beautiful face remained unscathed. Her porcelain skin was breath taking but she herself was taking no breaths.

Crawling faster, Inuyasha grabbed her hand. A small sob escaped his throat. Oh my God Kagome, please don't die. Don't leave me! Inuyasha waited for a breath, and hearing none but his own he cried freely. The woods were silent but Inuyasha's wracking sobs filled the void. He cried for his friends, for the turmoil he endured, but mostly for his lost love. The woman who had been by his side throughout this seemingly endless battle, the woman who taught Inuyasha to love again, the woman who…who… He could no longer think anymore. An unbearable sadness filled his heart. He gently laid his head down on her chest as he caressed her face with a clawed hand. Images of their pilgrimage filled his mind, allowing sobs to overtake his body again. He lay there for awhile, crying out again for his other half, for that's what she was. She had been a part of him, a big part of him, a part he realized he was now lacking.

He became silent. Something moved behind him. Inuyasha didn't care anymore. I welcome death, there is no life without Kagome. Please just kill me…please… Turning around slowly, Inuyasha faced his brother, Sesshomaru. Inuyasha fell to his knees before his demon brother.

"Sesshomaru, kill me. I have nothing left to live for. Kill me now Sesshomaru!"

"Stop your pathetic whining. There would be no sense in killing you now, you're too weak to even stand up. How would that make me look if I killed you while you weren't at your strongest?" Sesshomaru scoffed.

"I'll never be strong again. I've got no will to live. I've got nothing to protect, no one to love, I've got nothing. I'll die now, if not by you, then by my own hands!" Inuyasha grabbed the Tetsaiga and held it threateningly at his own throat. He felt pitiful, asking for death. How pathetic.

"Shut up! I wont listen to this…this…senseless bitching any longer" Sesshomaru boomed.

"Then kill me damnit!" Inuyasha closed his eyes, waiting for the pain, but felt nothing. He heard a soft thump on the ground in front of him. He opened his eyes and stared at the completed Shikon no Tama. Sesshomaru must've made off with the jewel while they were fighting for their lives.

"The Shikon no Tama is a powerful source of magic. Use it to get what you want. I will be watching, and when you are fit to fight, I will come for you."
Inuyasha was at a loss for words. "Thank you Sess-"

"Shut up" and with that, Sesshomaru disappeared into the foliage.
Inuyasha grabbed the jewel and sat deep in thought. True, the jewel had amazing power but could it bring someone back to life? But Kagome was a miko, so maybe…? It was worth a shot.

Inuyasha placed the jewel in her hands and placed her hands on her chest. It was faint, but he could see a blue light surround her body. Filled with a new hope, he grabbed her hands in his and gazed at her unmarred face. Suddenly the light became intense and then…died out. Silence…a sigh…Inuyasha looked up abruptly. He was eye to eye with Kagome. His eyes filled with tears…

"Kagome…you're…" He stopped in mid sentence and grabbed her with both arms, hugging her to his chest. "I was so scared…I thought I had lost you…don't ever leave me again."

"I never left you Inuyasha…I was with you the whole time, crying with you." And they embraced, rejoicing over life and mourning over death.
