The price of a locket and true love...

Chapter One
(This is set after the days of Inuyasha the movie 2 so yes there are spoilers and other things so if you do not want to hear about what happens then do not read. I do not own any of Rumiko Takahashi)

He fingered the small trinket in his clawed hands, the gold glittering in the afternoon sun. She was gone to her time for three days. Three days too many for him to think about the events that had only taken place a week ago. Pondering his actions, he began to think of what he had done to deserve such a good friend...such a good woman...such a good love.
"Feh." It was more of a sigh that its usual huff as he leapt down from the sacred tree. He touched his fingers to his lips.
'I love you...I love you as a half demon.' Well her love had come at a steep price. His will to become a full demon was his currency. He could never turn into a full demon now! He hurt Kagome and scared her half to death. The real reason was of her kiss. It was her kiss that broke Kaguya's spell on him, which turned him back into a hanyou. It was her kiss, which made him kiss her back. It was her kiss that made him want more than what she had given him. He owned her heart and now he wanted to own her being. His heart thundered against his chest and pounded against the gold locket that he wore as a sign of gratitude and everlasting adoration. The thought of making Kagome completely his spurred and excited the human side of him and caused lust and passion to develop in the demon part of him. Invigorating was the word for his feelings right then.
He ran off towards the well as hurriedly as possible and saw the tormentor of his nightmares at the foot of the well...Kikyou.
She held a grim smile as she reached into a satchel at her side and pulled out something that made Inuyasha's blood curdle and his heartbreak. It was Kagome's dismembered head. Fresh was the blood that dripped from the young woman's appendage and the blood that covered Kikyou's clothing. Hot tears stung the hanyou's amber eyes as he crawled to the woman who gave her life because of him. Her eyes opened.
"Who will you choose once it is all over? Do you really love me?"

"Inuyasha?" Her soft voice was the one that awoke him from his never-ending nightmare. That is what is heart battled with all the time. Kikyou's sinister grin and Kagome's death. That was his poison...his grievance. The brown-eyed angel stared at him for along while. The rest of the group hushed in silence crowded around the fire in the dark forest. He had fallen asleep by the fire after eating. The battle of the moon princess still wearing on his conscious and the fact that Naraku was alive and wounded was enough to make him tired.
Kagome bet to wipe his leaking eye. Her fingers brushed his cheek with a maternal swiftness that made him long to hold her.
"Why were you crying Inuyasha?"
Her question struck a sensitive nerve in his heart. He was crying because of her. He was crying because he could never be good enough to call her his wife...his mate. She needed better than what he could give.
"Hentai!" The houshi was up to his old tricks again. The female posterior being his target.
"For crying out loud Miroku! Haven't you learned your lesson yet?" Inuyasha exclaimed drawing attention from his situation and putting emphasis on the monk's.
"I suppose not." He sheepishly replied stroking the handprint that graced his face. Kagome, however, had not forgotten Inuyasha. Wiping the remaining tears from his eyes she placed a kiss on his cheek and hugged him.
"Whadda do that for?"
Kagome smiled lovingly.
"To help you with what ever you battle in your dreams."
Oh yeah it really helped. It helped enough to send a pang of red shooting through his face. Kagome rose.
"Well, my friends are leaving to go on a vacation. I have to hurry up before they leave me."
"Feh." Kagome turned towards the dog-eared one.
"I invited you to come."
"I have no clothes."
"We bought you some."
"I'll eat too much."
"All you can eat buffets are at the hotel."
"Where are you going?"
"Las Vegas...it's my graduation present. Eri, Yuki and Ayami all brought someone special."
Inuyasha looked at her then the group who sat behind them. Miroku looked at him with a hint of fatherly glee. Inuyasha looked back with malice. The houshi was trying to give him advice on the very subject earlier that day.

EARLIER...
"Are you going to go with her Inuyasha?" The hanyou looked at the cards placed in front of him.
"Got any 2's?" Ignored. The houshi threw a pair of 2's at Inuyasha.
" Maybe but..."
" I'm tired of you half-stepping around the situation! Kagome is in love with you are you love with her?"
Inuyasha fixed his deck and handed it to Miroku.
"I have never love someone so much, don't ever question my love for her again." The deck fell in houshi's lap.
"Then tell me this...what does that make of Kikyo?"
"I don't know."

Inuyasha turned his attention back to Kagome. Would he really embark on a personal trip to a foreign place with Kagome? He could try one more excuse....
"But I'm a hanyou Kagome! Would that not bring up trouble for you and that Hodo character?"
She laughed. By the gods she laughed! Was he just being stupid by asking the question?
"Inuyasha," She snickered "If Hodo, as you put it made any difference between you and I, I would not be here."
She paused letting the words sink into Inuyasha's thick skull.
"I like you just the way you are...and if the others don't, they can call our friendship annulled."
Inuyasha's heart leapt. She would give up her lifetime friends just to be with him. She was not afraid of his demon side and she embraced him wholly. He stood and shook her hand.
"It's a date." He smiled them he let it fade as he noticed his choice words. Date, oh that word meant trouble for him.
"D...date?" Kagome piped as she clasped her hand over her chest.
"Oh this is all too sudden! Oh my I think I'm going to faint!" His face went red with embarrassment and anger.
"You!" Kagome ran as the half demon chased her to the well. The two eyed each other from opposite sides of the mystical portal.
"Jump with me."
"Always."
