How Deep Is Your Love

Brown eyes meet red, and Kagura thinks about the deep and enduring love that Sango has for this badly damaged, zombie of a boy. As he begins to focus on her, she looks inside herself and sees…a void. Who has she ever been loyal to besides her self? And who has ever cared as much for her as Sango does for Kohaku? It was then she knew; she was missing so much in this twilight existence. So much more to real life.

“Kohaku, you will remember who you are and where you came from,” Kagura intoned. “Go to your sister.”

Letting go of his chin, Kagura stepped away. Kohaku blinked as he looked at the figure silhouetted at the cave entrance. He shot up.

“Sango!” Kohaku cried.

Tears in her eyes, Sango ran to her brother and held him in her arms. He clung to her, shaking. She closed her eyes, unsure if she should laugh or cry at his simple recognition of who she was.

“Where are we, what happened?” Kohaku said.

“What is the last thing you remember?' Sango replied.

“We went to do an extermination,” Kohaku whispered. “Something…bad happened.”

“Shh, don't think on it further,” Sango said. “Just know this. Anything bad that happened was not your fault. I will catch the one responsible, and all will be well. You are my brother and I love you.”

“I love you too, sister,” Kohaku said.

It was music to Sango's ears. But as the euphoria past, Sango began to wonder. She lifted her head from Kohaku's shoulder and turned to find Kagura. The wind sorceress stood a few paces away, watching them. Again her expression was inscrutable, but Sango wanted answers.

“You did this,” Sango said. “How did you free his memory, and why would you do it?”
