Chapter 1: Where I Stand
“Hustle Inu! The tournament is in a week and you barely have control of the ball!” The exhausted boy shouted. “Let the ball bounce to you! Don't run for it!”
“What do you know Miroku; you should stay in the middle of the court more than the sides of it!” He couldn't let his opponent know he took help from him. He didn't take assistance now and never will; all he needs is to practice, practice and practice.
“Out!” The boy threw his hands in the air in irritation. “The ball you hit is just too hard! Control it!” His hand dug into the tight pocket for another neon green tennis ball.
“Psh. You are wasting your time lecturing me; you need it yourself more than me!” The gentleman, Inuyasha, with the long jet black hair with an ego, shouted back.
“Whatever, just serve” He said. Stupid lech, he always belittles me. I swear on my mother's grave I won't miss his serve this time. He felt droplets of sweat slither down to his face. He stood in a ready position on the base line.
The young man on the other side of the court shook his head in disappointment, why was Inu causing these foolish fights. Maybe he's jealous of me, who wouldn't envy the Miroku...
With the ball clutched in his left hand and the racket in the other, he served the ball with bit of his muscle to it. It flew over the net and bounced once before it had reached the determined player.
Effortlessly Inuyasha swung his racket in a familiar circulating motion and hit it with most of his strength. The green neon soared past Miroku, past the base line, and made compact with the blue fence.
“Out!” Miroku yelled with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. “Hey Inu, go fetch!”
“Damn you,” He growled incoherently, “you lazy perv” The taunting friend walked to Inu's side and smirked. “How about tomorrow, same time and place?” Miroku let out his sweaty hand for a handshake. All he received was a cold glare, “Something wrong my friend?”
“There you go again! Just shut the fuck up and quit it” Inuyasha pushed his way through and rushed to the exit followed by the sapphire-eyed lecher.
“Don't send me on a guilt trip,” He said from behind, “It won't work this time”
“Fuck off Miroku; I'm not in the mood”
“You are a sore loser you know that. I tell you some advice and tips and you throw it back at my face!” The lech sighed. “Grow up Inu!”
That was the last he heard from Miroku before he walked in his own path. Damn him, why did he have to leave him hanging with his thoughts. I'm no sore loser! I just hate to lose! Yeah...That's it! What does hating to lose have to do with being a sore loser! What does he know anyway?! “He's probably running back to his girlfriend and groping her ass...”
Inuyasha maneuvered his way through the crowded streets of Tokyo; passing by women carrying shopping bags and men talking on cell phones. Home is a long walk; he spotted a wall and leant on it. Apparently he still wore his tennis uniform, since he had been on the city's team. Girls nagged about how adorable, kissable, and huggable we look in our uniforms.
Grow up you sore loser. His mind continued to tease him. Maybe that's why I don't have a girlfriend yet, am I really immature? He was about to drown in his thoughts until he heard his name.
“Inuyasha!” He heard again. He hastily turn his head in all directions and saw three girls waving there hands for him to see them. All three of them were crossing the street to reach his side walk. He narrowed his eyes as they approached him.
“What do you want” He said bluntly. Why were girls constantly bothering him? Were they making fun of him? Or what they say is a compliment? He growled aloud, stupid girly language of theirs.
“Why aren't you practicing with Miroku?” One of them asked out of curiosity. Did they seem him as a follower, and expect him tag along with him all the time. Sure he was the only friend he had, but it didn't mean anything...did it?
“No I think he went home. What the he-” He felt a sharp pain when she squeezed his cheek. “Awe how adorable!”
“Kikyo get the fuck off me!” He jerked away from her. Kikyo smiled as well as Miroku's girlfriend, Sango, as well as her best friend, Kagome. Was it confusing to remember?
“Good luck with your tournament...was it InuTrasha?” Kagome teased. She hadn't liked him when they first met and she doesn't like him now, at least that's what everyone thinks. Sango elbowed her throwing a `don't-tease-my-boyfriend's-best-friend' look.
“You're so kissable in that uniform, you know that...” Kikyo winked at him. “I love ya”
“Uh-huh I love you too” He said sarcastically; though he did have a small crush on her. She knows I do, and she does this to me. I don't know what it's supposed to mean. Maybe Miroku knows?
“Really, you have an attitude.” Kagome poked her finger at him as if she was superior to him. “You better change it”
“Don't touch me you fucking whore” He replied as if he wasn't offended by her comment. She smirked at his response; she had pink lip gloss painted on and dark shades of blue as eye shadow.
“You wish...” She nodded slowly.
“Keh!” He didn't know how to counter that one. Anyway, they were leaving so it didn't matter to him. Why did Kagome hate him?
~Flashback
“Inuyasha you be nice to my cousin!” She waved her index finger. “She'll be new here, friendless...like you.”
“Why should I? God, what the fuck do you girls want from me!?” You could see the nerve popping out of his head.
“She's coming out of that car, and since you're the closest boy to it...Say hi to her. Tell her she looks pretty and she'll say thank you, but you say `aren't you that Kikyo wannabe'!”
“Why would I say that?” He said ironically
“I thought you like me!” He was about to stride in the opposite direction until she offered, “I'll pay you a 1000 yen!” He turned around with a glint of interest in his eyes.
“1500” He corrected.
“1300...” She said in a low whisper.
“1500, anything lower I ain't doing it”
“Fine, 1500 and only if you're convincing!” He nodded and waited by the silver mini van. While Kikyo hid behind the street corner. After a couple minutes of waiting, a girl similar looking to Kikyo stepped out of the vehicle. She looked confused and nervous, unknowing of where to go.
“Excuse me; do you know where the school is?” She asked shyly and slightly blushing.
“Oh hi, yeah I do. Want me to walk you there?” Inuyasha went for the bonus; surely Kikyo would pay him an extra 500 yen.
“Yes! Thank you so much. I'm Kagome Higurashi.” They were already near the school.
“Kagome Higurashi? Your pretty...” he choked out, it was difficult to get those words out of his mouth. He looked at her reaction, she was blushing like a tomato and she thanked him for the compliment.
“I know you, you're that Kikyo wannabe” He smirked and walked away leaving a furious Kagome.
~
He began his `journey' back home, `she used to look natural, ever since then she's been covering herself up in that makeup'
“I wonder what Sessho will do to me for being a couple hours late...”
