Well I will say that the Shikon no Tama will be in the story but as for Kagome protecting…that I will leave a secret. But you are totally on the right track with that thinking!! ^_^

Chapter Eight

The Shattered Soul Part IV

 

Last time on The Sage…

 

Sorano walked slowly into the room and Inuyasha heard Kagome gasp. Sorano looked at Kagome and smiled slightly before her eyes rolled back and she fell in a bloody heap on the fall.

 

“SORANO!!!!!!”

Kagome screamed out to Sorano as she fell to the ground. She leapt off of Inuyasha and ran as fast as she could to her fallen friend. She was covered in blood and her clothes were ripped and torn. Oh Kami-sama please let her be all right! She was just trying to protect me and look what happened to her. Please! Oh please be okay! Kagome skidded to a halt and knelt down beside Sorano. Slowly Kagome reached out and turned Sorano over and gently laid her head in her lap. She brushed Sorano's blood soaked hair out of her face and looked down at her fallen friend.

 

“Sorano please wake up. Please!”

 

Sesshomaru was beside Sorano before Inuyasha even got off the couch. Sesshomaru knelt down and gently took Sorano's small hand in his. “She has a strong pulse.”

 

Kagome looked at Sesshomaru and then back at Sorano. Thank-you Kami-sama! “Oh thank goodness. But all this blood…”

 

“I don't think it's all hers.”

 

Kagome jumped slightly as she turned to see Inuyasha. “What do you mean you don't think its hers? Then who's is it?”

 

Sesshomaru leaned forward and sniffed Sorano, “I don't know who's blood it is but very little of it is Sorano's.”

 

Rin walked to Kagome's other side and knelt down. Slowly, with a shaking hand, Rin reached out and stroked Sorano's cheek. “Than why has she passed out? Sesshomaru?” Sesshomaru tore is vision away from Sorano and looked at Rin.

 

“Yes.”

 

“Would you mind carrying Sorano over to the couch? She needs to get off this cold floor.”

 

Sesshomaru nodded as he slowly pulled Sorano towards him and lifted her effortlessly into in the air. He carried her bridal style over to the couch that a moment ago was home to Inuyasha and Kagome. Sesshomaru laid Sorano down and elevated her head to rest on the arm of the couch. Kagome followed after Sesshomaru.

 

Sorano's breathing was long and even and Kagome knew that she was in no danger. Do why did she pass out? She has been in worse battles then this and come out still conscious. Did she get poisoned? Did she use too much of her youki? Did he know about Light Youkai? So many questions were running through her head that she was barely aware that Sango was ordering everyone around. She had asked Inuyasha to get a blanket, then she asked Miroku to follow Inuyasha and find Sorano something to wear, and she asked Sesshomaru to get some warm water and a cloth to clean Sorano up. Kagome finally came out of her musing when Sango turned to Koga.

 

“Koga could you please go out to Sorano's car and see if you can find her cell phone. I have to call the studio and the number is on Sorano's phone.” Koga nodded and ran off to get what was asked of him.

 

Once the boys were out of the room Sango turned to the other and sighed, “What the hell happened that Sorano is like this? I mean she has gone up against so many youkai who were stronger then Shigekazu and nothing this bad ever happened.”

 

Kagome nodded, “I was thinking a long the same lines Sango and the only thing that I can think of is that he might have figured out the secret of the light youkai. That is the only thing I can think of at the moment.”

 

Rin gasped and placed a hand over her mouth, “But Sorano is one of the only light youkai there are. How could he have found something like that out?”

 

Kagome shrugged as she looked back at Sorano, “I don't know Rin and the sun rise is still a long ways away. We will just have to fix her up the best way that we can.”

 

Sango crossed her arms and sighed, “I don't think that we should be here when the sun rises tomorrow Kagome. I don't think Sorano would like anyone, other then ourselves, to know that little `trick' of hers.”

 

Kagome looked at Sorano. She looked so peaceful, “I think that you are right Sango but that is easier said then done.”

 

Kagome turned her head towards the stairs as she heard the guys returning. Inuyasha was the first one around the corner and was shortly followed by Miroku. Kagome couldn't help but smile at Inuyasha. He was asked to get a blanket and it looked like he was returning with about four or five of them. Miroku was carrying what looked like a pair of sweat pants and a long sleeved shirt. Inuyasha stopped beside Kagome and knelt down.

 

“I brought the blankets. Is there anything else that you need?”

 

Kagome smiled as she patted Inuyasha's hand, “No but thank you for the thought.”

 

Sesshomaru came around the other corner and was carrying a deep basin of water and washcloth. He was walking slowly because of the basin but he had a strange look in his eyes as he walked towards them. Is Sesshomaru that upset about Sorano being like this? I mean I am worried sick but he looks almost… lost? Sango met Sesshomaru and took the basin and washcloth.

 

Sesshomaru silently walked over to Sorano and knelt down, once again taking her hand in his, and looked at her sleeping face. Kagome looked at Sango and she shrugged. Sango looked around for some place to put the basin down. Kagome saw what Sango was doing and got up and pulled the coffee table towards Sorano's knees. Sango nodded a thanks to Kagome and placed the basin on the table.

 

Kagome turned and looked at Inuyasha, Sesshomaru and Miroku. “Uhmm guys I think you need to leave the room.”

 

Kagome gasped softly when she heard Sesshomaru growl. What the hell is his problem?! Wait a minute! Is he had possessive of Sorano already? He has only known her for about twelve hours. Kagome felt herself blush. And you have only own Inuyasha for that long too and you are already having hentai thoughts when it comes to him. Sesshomaru must being sensing something from her youki that is attracting him to her.

 

Kagome took a deep breath, “Sesshomaru I know that you don't want to leave Sorano but we need to clean her up and see what injuries she has suffered. We will be removing her cloths and I don't think she would appreciate it if all of you were in the room watching.”

 

Inuyasha was the first to stand. He walked over to Kagome and looked her right in the eye. Kagome felt her knees go weak. Inuyasha reached out and gently stroked her cheek and Kagome melted into the feel. Before Kagome could stop him he leaned in and gently laid his lips against hers. Before she could recover from the shock and really start to enjoy the kiss he pulled away and smiled, “Call if you need anything. Miroku lets go.”

 

Kagome dumbly nodded as Miroku handed the cloths he was holding over to Sango and followed after Inuyasha. Kagome turned back to the others and almost laughed. Rin's jaw was almost on the fall and Sango had a raised eyebrow. Kagome blushed and shook her head. Why did he have to do that right in front of the others… I mean I really REALLY liked it but he could have waited to kiss me when no one else was around.

 

Sesshomaru gently squeezed Sorano hand as he leaned forward and kissed her cheek softly. Well at least a bit of her that wasn't covered in blood. Sesshomaru looked at Sorano for a long time before finally letting go of her hand and leaving the room. He didn't say a thing and Kagome knew it was taking everything in his power not to turn around and come back to her side.

 

Kagome waited until the door to the kitchen was closed before she turned and looked at the others. Sango was standing there with her arms crossed and her foot was tapping softly against the tile floor. Rin was grinning like a little schoolgirl as she looked from Kagome to the kitchen door and then back again.

 

“ Look I don't need this from either of you right now. I told you all before that I felt something from Inuyasha and well as you can see he feels something for me.”

 

“I just never thought in a million years that Kagome, the silent warrior, would ever go for a guy like Inuyasha.” Sango almost laughed but just then the front door opened and in ran Koga. He ran past Sango and right to Kagome. Kagome cocked her head as Koga took her hands in his and placed the cell phone in her hands.

 

“Here's Sorano's cell phone my Kagome. If you need anything just call for me and I will come.” Kagome didn't even have time to react before Koga was following the boys and entering the kitchen.

 

Rin walked over to Kagome and looked at her funny, “Now what was that all about?”

 

Kagome looked at Rin and sighed, “That's what I would like to know…” Kagome shook her head, “My Kagome…”

 

Sango walked over to Kagome and took Sorano's cell phone and clipped it to her belt. “I asked Koga to go and get Sorano's cell phone as a way of getting him to go away. I know it was rude of me but some things we talk about need to be in private.

 

Rin nodded, “I agree. But lets take care of Sorano now. She needs us.”

 

Kagome nodded as she turned her full attention back to Sorano. She looks like an angel lying there. She still has that natural glow to her that I saw all those years ago when she saved me. She needs us for once and I will be damned if I don't do everything in a power to help her.

Inuyasha jumped up on the kitchen counter and sat down. He didn't really know what to do with himself. Everything just seemed to follow those girls and they were all coming along for the ride. First at the school Rin was attacked by the wasp youkai and Sorano, Kagome, and Sango all sprang into action and royally kicked those youkai's ass. Then at the club Kagome was attacked by her old guardian and Sorano actually kicked his ass. At least that's what the blood he smelt on Sorano told him. It had a strange scent to it and it reminded Inuyasha of the scent that came off the bastard that threw his Kagome across the dance floor.

 

Inuyasha grinned when he remembered what they were doing on the dance floor. They were doing anything but dancing and it was making Inuyasha's blood boil with want and need. She had no idea what she was doing to him. There was something inside him that was telling him that Kagome was the only one for him and he would be damned if he let anyone take her away. I still can't believe how powerful Sorano is. She is so reserved and calm but at the same time I can see such passion come from her. What the hell does she see in Sesshomaru?!

 

Inuyasha was brought out of his musings when the kitchen door opened and in walked Koga. He had a smug look on his face as he closed the door behind him. Inuyasha leapt off the countertop and walked over to Koga and sniffed him.

 

“What the fuck wolf you have Kagome's scent on you?!”

 

Koga grinned as he walked away from Inuyasha and to the refrigerator, “Of course I have my woman's scent on me.”

 

Inuyasha growled as he grabbed Koga roughly by the shoulder and spun him around, “Kagome is NOT your woman and you stay the fuck away from her!”

 

Koga pushed Inuyasha's hand off of him and glared at Inuyasha. Suddenly Koga leaned forward and sniffed at Inuyasha, “You have been touching my woman you mutt!”

 

“Keh! She ain't your woman you stinking wolf! I smell like Kagome because she was with me not you!”

 

Miroku quickly came over and stood between them, “Okay everyone I think we all need to calm down. There are more important things happening right now then a pissing contest between the two of you. If you two hadn't noticed Sorano is lying unconscious in the other room and is covered in blood.”

 

A growl from the darkened corner of the kitchen drew everyone's attention. “The monk is right. Both of you shut up.”

 

Though Sesshomaru didn't yell this is voice was so menacing that Miroku and Koga both shivered. Inuyasha just glared at Sesshomaru as he jumped back up on the countertop, folded his arms, and closed his eyes. Miroku sighed and Koga went back to the frig to get something. Inuyasha didn't care what the others were doing. He was to busy thinking about Kagome. She was his everything and she had been in his life a total of maybe twelve hours. Already he missed her.

 

Inuyasha sighed softly to himself. Her skin was so soft and she smelt so damn good. Inuyasha just wanted to run out there and bury his nose in her neck and smell her all night long. It was as if her aura itself was calming him down and soothing his raging youki. I can't get her out of my head. No matter what I do I can't stop thinking about her. Her lips, her sweet intoxicating taste, her scent, the way her body fitted so perfectly against me, and her moans of pleasure. Inuyasha groaned and sifted his position on the countertop. Fuck Inuyasha get a grip on yourself! If you don't calm down you'll end doing something that you will really regret.

 

Inuyasha was brought out of his thoughts as the kitchen door opened and in walked Rin. She was carrying the basin and the washcloth as she walked over to the sink to clean it all out. Sesshomaru was by Rin's side before Inuyasha was even off the counter.

 

“How is she?”

 

Inuyasha did a double take. Did Sesshomaru just sound concerned? Hell must have just frozen over! Rin sighed as she rinsed out the basin and cleaned the washcloth. “She is a lot better then she looks. Kagome is tending to the little cuts and scratches that she got. But…”

 

Sesshomaru tried, and failed, to kept the growl out of his voice, “But…”

 

“She has a pretty nasty cut on her stomach and its pretty deep. Sango had to use one of the blankets as a bandage. We will replace the blanket.”

 

“I don't care about the blanket!”

 

Rin jumped and splashed water all over Miroku and Koga who were standing on Rin's other side. Fuck Sesshomaru calm down! You're scaring the poor girl! “Fucking calm down Sesshomaru. These girls know what they are doing. All you're doing is slowing Rin down and scaring her.”

 

Sesshomaru turned and glared at Inuyasha. Oh fuck… Sesshomaru's eyes had changed to blood red and his normal golden eyes were completely gone. Fuck he's turning into his true form! What the fuck is wrong with this bastard?! “Sesshomaru?”

 

Sesshomaru's claws and fangs lengthened as he growled deep in his throat. Rin screamed and dropped the basin, smashing it into a million little pieces. Miroku grabbed Rin and pulled her away. “Inuyasha we need to get Sesshomaru out of here before he hurts someone.”

 

“If we make him leave then he will hurt someone! He is reacting to Sorano's youki. His youki and youkai blood are probably thinking that she is his mate.” Koga was slowly backing up as he stated this.

 

Inuyasha ran a hand through his silver locks, “Well this is just fucking perfect! Now my idiot of a brother is going insane because his blood and his youki are thinking that his mate is in danger when she isn't even this mate!”

 

Suddenly the door to the kitchen opened again and in ran Sango. She took one look at Sesshomaru and her eyes narrowed. Inuyasha was shocked; it was as if she was a totally different person. It was as if she could easily take on Sesshomaru when he was like this and come out the victor.

 

“I heard Rin scream and I see that it is because Sesshomaru can't seem to calm down.” Sesshomaru responded to this by growling and snapping his jaw at Sango. Sango raised an eyebrow at Sesshomaru, “Don't you fucking snarl at me. I'm not the one that thinks that Sorano is mortal danger. Sesshomaru listen to me. Sorano is going to be fine. We stopped the bleeding and changed her cloths but what she needs now is rest so we are taking her home and you can see she her tomorrow.”

 

Inuyasha shook his head. Wrong thing to say to a youkai who thinks that his mate is danger. Don't take her away you idiots. He needs to see her now! “Sango…” Inuyasha never finished his sentenced as Sesshomaru ran past all them and out into the hall and then into the living room where Sorano was being kept. FUCK THIS! Inuyasha ran after Sesshomaru. I swear to every Kami-sama that if he so much as touches a hair on Kagome's head I'll fucking kill him myself!

Kagome had just finished dressing Sorano when she heard a growl coming from the kitchen. Kagome turned and looked towards the kitchen. They had moved Sorano from the hall and into the living room because the living was warming. What was that growl? Are the guys fighting or something? Sango had left when Rin had screamed and now Kagome had a bad feeling in her gut. Her miko was on edge ever since the scream and it was only getting worse.

 

Kagome gently laid a blanket across Sorano and moved a stray piece of her damp hair out of her face. They had cleaned her up the best they could and they knew that she would want a shower the minute she woke up. Kagome suddenly stood and turned around. What a powerful and angry youki!

 

Kagome barely had time to react. She saw Sesshomaru running towards them and then it dawned on her that the powerful and angry youki belonged to Sesshomaru. Kagome gasped when she saw his crimson eyes and blue irises. She knew a youkai in the middle of transformation when she saw one. Kagome didn't think she just reacted. It was her duty to protect anyone who was fallen in battle and Sorano was not up to defending herself. Kagome raised her hands before herself and let her miko surround them.

 

Sesshomaru jumped right at Kagome but instead of hitting her he jumped head long into one of Kagome's kekkai. Sesshomaru growled as he was repelled back and skidded across the tile floor. Sesshomaru was instantly up and jumping at the kekkai again and again he was thrown back.

 

“Please Sesshomaru you have to stop!! If you don't you're only going to hurt yourself. Sorano is fine!! She is out of danger!!”

 

Sesshomaru threw his head back and roared. The whole house shook and Kagome gasped. What is wrong with him?! I mean he is a full-blooded youkai. But why is he acting like a mindless animal? Full-blooded youkai keep their minds when they are transforming. That's what makes them such a threat when they transform. They are able to use reason in that form and not even animals in the wild have that ability.

 

“KAGOME!!!!”

 

Kagome turned her attention away from Sesshomaru and looked behind him. Inuyasha was running towards her followed, by what looked like, the rest of the household. Kagome squinted at a strange toad like creature that was following behind Miroku who was bringing up the rear.

 

“Inuyasha what is wrong with Sesshomaru??”

 

“He thinks that Sorano is his mate and because she is hurt his youki has taken over!”

 

Kagome shook her head, “How is that even possible? I mean they didn't mate or anything. They have pretty much held hands.”

 

Inuyasha stopped a little ways away from Sesshomaru and looked at Kagome, “It is possible when ones youki does the choosing. Sesshomaru thinks that Sorano is his mate and he is acting upon what Sango said.”

 

Sango came up beside Inuyasha and glared at him, “What did I say that made him go nuts?!?!”

 

Inuyasha growled out in frustration, “You said that Sorano was fine but you were all going to take her home and he could see her tomorrow.”

 

Kagome gasped, “Oh Sango you didn't say that did you?”

 

Sango looked from Inuyasha to Kagome confused, “What?”

 

Kagome flinched when Sesshomaru jumped at the kekkai again. He is getting stronger. But if I let him near Sorano he might hurt her or will he might not let us near her to change her bandages. “Sango you shouldn't have said that to Sesshomaru. You saw him earlier when we asked him to leave. Now I know why is acting this way. But I can't let him.. you know…” Kagome nodded over her shoulder to Sorano.

 

Suddenly everyone gasped and Sesshomaru stopped attacking the kekkai. What is going on? Why did Sesshomaru stop? Kagome jumped slightly when a hand touched her shoulder. “It's okay Kagome.”

 

Kagome turned around and looked into the tired eyes of Sorano. She was awake and barely on her feet. Kagome smiled and felt tears of relief running her cheeks. “Sorano…”

 

“I'm alright Kagome. I'm tired and I need the sun but I will be just fine. When I tell you, let down the kekkai. Alright?”

 

Kagome nodded her head as Sorano slowly walked past her and towards the kekkai. Sesshomaru had walked up the to the kekkai and now the only thing that separated them was a thin kekkai. Sorano whined softly in the back of her throat and Sesshomaru cocked his head to one side. Sorano raised her hand and gently laid in on the kekkai. Sparks flew from where her hand was touching and Kagome was about to let the kekkai down. “Keep it up Kagome!”

 

Kagome gasped but nodded. Sesshomaru looked from Kagome to Sorano and slowly raised his hand as well. He touched the kekkai gingerly and again sparks started to fly from where is hand was resting. Sorano whined again and, to Kagome's surprise, so did Sesshomaru. Sorano looked deep into Sesshomaru's eyes and Kagome sighed when she saw that they were slowly fading from hues of blue and red to white and gold.

 

“Okay Kagome let the kekkai down. It is okay now.”

 

Kagome lowered her hands and the kekkai fell. Sorano and Sesshomaru's hands touched and Sesshomaru sighed as he closed his eyes. A minute later Sesshomaru opened his eyes and they were back to normal. Sorano raised her other hand and gently cupped his cheek. Sesshomaru, even for that moment, smiled as he pulled Sorano to him and hugged her tightly but carefully.

 

“Sesshomaru were you that worried about me that you risked hurting yourself?”

 

Sesshomaru buried his face into Sorano's neck and sighed deeply. Sorano placed her hand on Sesshomaru's head and rubbed her cheek into his hair. “I am just fine Sesshomaru. I am not going anywhere for the time being.”

 

Kagome jumped when Inuyasha wrapped his arm around her waist. “Inuyasha?”

 

Inuyasha sighed, “I thought he was going to hurt you.”

 

Kagome smiled up at Inuyasha, “I am not a weak human you know.”

 

Inuyasha grinned at Kagome, “Yeah you are but you're my weak human.” Kagome shook her head as she turned her attention back to Sorano and Sesshomaru. Finally a calm had settled over the house and Kagome breathed easier knowing that Sorano was okay and so was everyone else.
