A/N: First off my most sincerest apologies for the extremely late update. I was out of town for two months, then my sister got married, and now I have a new job which is set hours and awesome pay. I will be working on the next chapter tonight and I hope to have it up in a few days time. This chapter is for Teela. She never stopped reviewing and for that I am grateful. You make your appearance in this chapter and have a larger role in the next chapter.

A/N: I am starting into a four or five chapter mini-series as you can tell by the last chapter. And to Teela I will have the link to your picture. It is located at my DeviantArt page www.deviantart.com/deviation/33784189/ with that said here's the next chapter.

Chapter Thirty-Two
The Ancient Alliance Part II

Sorano looked out over the lands. It had been hundreds of years since she last saw any of this land. It was peaceful at the moment but an uneasiness had settled over the providence of Mushin. She could feel it though it somehow felt different to her this time. Almost like the darkness was going away as if it was trying to hide its presence from her. Sorano gave her head a shake as she walked towards the river. She smiled to herself as the bridge came into view. It was her little haven away from everything. The bridge reminded her of the iron bridges in the future however this bridge was a model of the advancements that this era was going through.

Sorano walked onto the bridge and let the sounds of the churning waters of the river take over her thoughts. There was something surreal about the sound of water that Sorano loved. It calmed her and let her think things through.

“I never would have thought you to be a lover of water Sorano-sama.”

Sorano glanced to the right and smiled, “I have always loved the water Teela-san.”

Teela giggled softly as she walked out onto the bridge and stood beside Sorano. “No need for formalities Sorano-sama.”

Sorano looked back out over the river, “Same here.” Teela smiled as they stood in silence. How long they stood there she didn't know.

“I'm glad your not dead Sorano.” Sorano looked over at Teela, “When Chichiue told me that we were heading here to pay our respects I didn't want to come.”

“Teela…”

Teela turned and faced her, “Promise me that you won't leave us again. I don't think I could handle it if you left again. We need you!”

Sorano smiled softly, “I can't make that promise.”

Teela's aqua eyes flashed, “Why?! Why can't you stay!”

Oh Teela I wish you would understand. Sorano placed her hand on the young water sprite hanyou's shoulder, “I can't make that promise because whether you want to believe it or I am dead in this time.”

Teela turned away but Sorano could still smell the salt of her tears, “You helped everyone to see that hanyou's aren't filthy or tainted because we are half ningen and half youkai. It was because of you that everyone has accepted my mother and father being together. If you go away that we all go away too.”

Sorano laughed softly which in turn earned her a glare from Teela, “I can't tell you about the future but I can say that you have nothing to worry about. The feelings within the people of this era don't vanish just because I do. It is by the actions of the hanyou, youkai, and ningen that we all start to respect each other.”

Teela turned around and before Sorano could even react Teela launched herself at Sorano and hugged her tightly, “Sorano-sama.”

Sorano sighed as she rubbed the young hanyou's back, “I thought we said no formalities.” Teela giggled.

Kagome sighed as she sank into the onsen. Never in her wildest dreams did she think that it would feel this good. The hot water did wonders for the muscles and she felt all her tension melting off of her. Now this is something a girl could get used too. Kagome closed her eyes as she leaned back against the rock and let her mind wonder. How long she soaked she didn't know but she did feel the pull on her mate mark. Kagome sighed as she leaned forward and slowly stood up. The sound of a twig snapping drew her attention and she turned.

There he was. Her beautiful mate Inuyasha. She smiled softly at the look on his face. He looked like he was about to start yelling at her for going off alone but now he was staring at her with a slack jaw. Kagome smiled sweetly at her mate as she cupped some water in her hands and slowly raised them. She didn't stop looking at him until she tipped her head back and poured the water on her face and let the warm liquid stream down her body.

“Ka..Kagome…” She slowly looked at Inuyasha and she could hear him whining softly. I guess I have to go and get him.

She waded to the shore of the hot spring and climbed out. Inuyasha's nostrils flared as she walked towards him. She wanted him. She needed him. And by the look on his face he wanted her too. After everything that had happened she needed to feel, touch, and be with Inuyasha. He was her haven. He was the world to her and she knew that he would always be there for her. Kagome smiled as she leaned against him and nipped under his chin. “Inuyasha.”

Kagome yelped as Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her and captured her lips in a heated kiss. She surrendered to him. He tasted like the wild itself and it set off every nerve in her body. She was drowning in his kiss. She felt herself falling backward but knew that Inuyasha wouldn't hurt her. The ground was cool on her bare flesh as Inuyasha started to trail kisses down her neck as he made his way to her mark.

Kagome ran her hands down his chest until she reached the tie to his hakama. She needed to touch his flesh. He nipped her mark and she cried out his name as every nerve in her body ignited with passion. He licked, nipped and kissed his seal on her and she lost all coherent thought. “Inuyasha…please…”

Inuyasha leaned back on his haunches, as he looked her over with heated eyes. Does he know what he is going to me? Inuyasha pulled off his fire rat haori and finished untying his hakama. Kagome licked her lips as he pulled off his hakama and settled himself between her legs. She was shaking with need as his mouth captured her nipple.

Kagome bucked her hips as he massaged her other breast with his hand. “Inuyasha!” She reached up and found his ears as he switched to her other breast. His ears were so soft and he groaned as she rubbed the tender flesh between her fingers. Inuyasha ran his hand over her stomach and down to her soft curls. It was almost painful how much she needed him to touch her. To be with her. To once again feel him inside her.

She through her head back and arced off the ground when he started to rub her. Lights danced before her eyes as he slid a finger within her. Kagome bucked her hips into his hand. It wasn't enough. She wanted him. “Inuyasha…mmm…please…need…”

Inuyasha climbed up her and looked her in the eye as he slowly slid himself inside her. Kagome cried out in pleasure as they joined once again. She felt safe, protected, and loved as Inuyasha slowly slid in and out of her. He leaned back as he pushed her thighs further apart. Kagome raked her nails through the dirt as he burrowed himself deeper and harder into her.

Kagome arced off the ground as she felt the tightening in her belly. “Inuyasha!” Her miko flared as it called to her mate. Fuchsia energy crackled through the air as she panted and twisted below her beloved hanyou. Kagome closed her eyes as Inuyasha's red youki flooded her senses. Kagome cried his name to the heavens as she fell over the abyss and felt her whole body shake with pleasure.

Inuyasha growled out as he leaned forward and once again bite his mark on her neck. Kagome cried out again as she shuddered to new heights of pleasure. Inuyasha started to lick her neck and slowly she felt herself coming back to her senses.

Inuyasha leaned up onto his elbows as he looked down at her. “You have no idea what you do to me.” He wiped her sweat soaked bangs out of her eyes and smiled at him.

“I love you.” Kagome leaned up and kissed him.

Inuyasha sat silently at the table as everyone ate their breakfast. Sho had told them the night before that he was going to explain all that he could this morning to them. But now they were being made to wait. Breakfast had been served and yet there was no sign of Sho, Sorano or Sesshomaru. Kagome had tried to tell him to be patient but this world didn't make sense to him.

Inuyasha sniffed the air and growled, “Finally I thought we were going to have to wait all day.” The shoji door slid open and in walked Sorano, Sho and Sesshomaru. Sorano was smiling softly as she sat down across from Kagome. Sho sat on one side of Sorano as Sesshomaru sat on the other.

“Sorry to keep everyone waiting. We had a meeting with the leaders of the tribes this morning and it went longer then we thought it would.”

Inuyasha `keh'ed at Sho as he made a show of folding his arms inside his haori sleeves. Sorano frowned at him but stayed quiet.

“Sho-san you told us yesterday about the leaders and we're grateful for that but this isn't our era and we don't know why were brought here. By chance do you know?” Kagome leaned forward slightly as she spoke.

Sho raised a hand to his chin, “Unfortunately I do not. Sorano-sama filled me in on what had brought you here but aside from that I don't know why you are all here.”

Sango growled as she pushed her bowl of misu away from her, “Great! Just great! This has been one messed up situation after another. I have no desire to be a part of this war. We have a battle in our own time that we need to fight.”

“Taijiya! That is enough.” Sorano glared at Sango and Inuyasha stayed quiet. Those two are going to end up killing each other I just know it.

Sango glared at Sorano, “No Haven! Look I know you were once apart of this era and I understand your need to help them but what about the people in our time?!”

Sorano shook her head, “You're right I want to stay and help here but don't you ever think for a minute that I have forgotten the people of our time. I want to protect them as well but this is where we are and this is where we will be staying until we figure out why we were brought back in time.”

Sango stood up as she yelled at Sorano, “Why we were brought here?! We were brought here because you read that stupid scroll out loud and transported us all here! You told us to stand around you while you did it! You are the reason we were brought back!”

Sorano made to open her mouth but then stopped and she took a deep breath, “You're right Sango. I am the reason that we are all trapped here. I will not ask you all to fight my fight nor do I want any of you to get hurt because of me,” Sorano looked from Sango to Kagome, “I believe that you still have you're Jii-chan's scroll?”

Kagome nodded, “H..hai.”

“Good. Kaeda said that my scroll was the key and that yours was the map. I hope that by reading the scroll you will all find out about the fortune of the Higurashi.” With that said Sorano stood up. Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow and Sango noticeably recoiled. “I take my leave.” Sorano turned to leave and Sesshomaru was about to stand up but Sorano shook her head, “Sesshomaru you will need to know what is written on the scroll as well.”

Inuyasha watched with the others as Sorano bowed to them all and walked from the room. Sango watched and waited for her to say something but all that was heard was the sliding of the shoji door as it opened and closed.

Sango slumped to the floor, “I didn't mean it like that…”

“BAKA!!” Sango jumped as well did everyone else. Rin was glaring daggers at Sango.

“Rin..”

“Don't you Rin me Sango! How dare you speak to Sorano like that! I know that the two of you don't always see eye to eye but to blame her for all this!” Rin gestured her arm out as spoke.

“Rin that's not what I meant! If you would listen…”

Rin banged her fists on the table and Kagome leaned more into Inuyasha. She can be quiet the little fireball. Inuyasha wrapped his arms around Kagome's waist as Rin let Sango have it, “Do you have any idea how sorry Sorano is that she didn't ask Kagome to open her scroll first. Sorano believes that if we had opened hers it would have saved us all from coming back here. But nooo! Because you always react before you think Taijiya!”

“That is enough!” Inuyasha flinched as Sho's spiritual energy crackled through the air. “We are all wasting valuable time. Kagome-san your scroll?” Sango and Rin quieted but Rin was still glaring at Sango as Kagome reached into her robes and pulled out her scroll.

She slowly broke the seal and unrolled the scroll. “What the…”

Inuyasha leaned around Kagome and looked at the writing. It didn't look like a map at all. “Kagome what is this?”

Kagome looked at Inuyasha as she placed the scroll on the table. “It's a poem that my Jii-chan used to say to me every night before I fell asleep.” Kagome closed her eyes as she started to speak:

Great Mountain of Fire and Life
Protect what must not be seen
Through valleys and forest I come
Wanting a glimpse of thee

Hundreds of years you waited
Living in shadow and light
Your path is hidden
Unbeknownst to all life

By water I follow the sun
Until the trees receive me
Through forest I venture
Until the rocks block me

Great Mountain of Fire and Life
Your secret is safe with me
I will come one day to meet you
And claim the fortune of thee

Inuyasha cocked an eyebrow as Kagome finished reading the poem. “What does it mean?”

Kagome looked at Inuyasha and shrugged her shoulders. “I don't know. Jii-chan always said that one day I would need this poem and I would laugh as I rolled over and went to sleep.”

Rin gasped as she looked over at the wall. Inuyasha followed her line of vision and saw that she was staring at a wall painting. The painting was of a mountain that looked like it was on fire and a long winding river that was surrounded by a forest. “It's just a painting Rin.”

Rin shook her head and she stood up and walked over to the painting. “This is the poem.”

Sho stood up and walked over to stand beside Rin, “This is painting that the first Higurashi painted. The poem is about this painting but how did you know little one?”

Rin placed her hand on the painting, “This is the mountain from the poem, this is the river, and this is the forest. It is a map! It's just hidden in the lines of the poem.”

Miroku rubbed his chin, “Well the poem stated that we need to travel on the river heading west.”

Sango nodded, “Until the river meets with the forest. I think?”

Kagome nodded as she leaned forward, “Then we continue west until we reach rocks or in this case the mountain of fire. The fortune must be there!”

Sesshomaru stood up and everyone turned his or her attention in his direction. “Then let's get Sorano and get a move on already.”

***

Sesshomaru exited the dining house and instantly lost Sorano's scent. That's strange. Her scent was easy to follow through the house but now it's gone. He walked down the stairs and sniffed the air. Still he couldn't find her scent and that set his youki off. He needed to know where she went.

“Chichiue!” Sesshomaru turned and glanced at the young ningen that had lead them to the village in the first place. He was running full out towards them.

Sho walked around Sesshomaru just as the ningen came to a stop, “Shoichi what is it?”

Shoichi took a moment to catch his breath. “Washi-sama is looking for you. He says that he doesn't agree with Sorano-sama's plans and he wants to talk to you about it.”

Sesshomaru turned to Shoichi, “Is Sorano with him?”

Shoichi nodded and Sesshomaru headed towards the direction that the ningen had come from. “Wait up Sesshomaru we're coming with you.” He ignored Kagome but could hear them as they followed after him. Why would Sorano be giving out orders? Plus what would Washi have to complain about. He said this morning that he would follow Sorano once again.

They rounded the bend and came into sight of the watchtower. Sesshomaru scanned the area but couldn't see Sorano anywhere and again her scent was nowhere to be found. He growled as he reached the hawk youkai and a few others that he didn't know.

Washi turned and bowed to Sesshomaru, “Sesshomaru-sama I wasn't expecting to see you again this morning. Sorano-sama said that you wouldn't be down this way again.”

“Where is Sorano?”

Washi grinned, “Don't know where your courted one is?”

Sesshomaru growled at Washi just as a short thin blue haired hanyou appeared beside Washi and bowed low, “Sesshomaru-sama. My name is Teela. I have something for you and your friends. Sorano-sama asked me to give this to you before I left.” She held out a shoebox sized parcel that was tied closed with one of Sorano's hair ties.

Sesshomaru took the box from the hanyou and she bowed again before sprinting off towards the forest. She was out of sight before he even blinked. What is going on! Why would Sorano not give this to us herself?

“Sesshomaru what did she give you?” Sesshomaru turned and almost hit Sango, as she was standing so close. Sesshomaru pulled the hair tie free and opened the box. Inside were Sorano's choker and her belt along with a scroll of paper. Sesshomaru pulled out the scroll and handed the box to Sango.

He ignored her gasp as he unrolled the scroll and read to himself,

My dearest friends,

It seems that once again I failed to protect you all from danger. For this I am truly sorry. I will not drag you all into my war. I truly hope that the scroll that Kagome has helped you all figure out the fortune of the Higurashi family.

Inuyasha I leave Kagome in your hands. Please protect her as I have failed to do so.

Rin I am sorry that I have left your side but I will return one day to you.

Sango remember to watch you back as I will not be there to watch it for you.

And my dearest Sesshomaru. I know that you will be trying to track my scent but I do not want you involved in this war. I have blocked my scent and my youki from all who try to find me. Please watch over the others for me until my return. I will think of you always. My Sesshomaru.

Sorano

Sesshomaru could feel his youki flowing through his veins. She left…She left me! Sesshomaru saw red and everyone that was talking to him was but mere murmurs to him. His chosen. His courted. His mate. She left him without so much as a good-bye or asking him to come along.

***

Kagome tried to grab the letter from Sesshomaru but suddenly his youki started to rise and it rose quickly. Something in the letter was upsetting him and it was causing the youkai and ningen in the area around him to back away. Kagome walked around Sesshomaru and saw that his eyes were turning red.

“Sesshomaru? Sesshomaru may I see the letter?” Sesshomaru growled but it wasn't at her. His eyes were completely red and his fangs had passed his lower lip. “My Kami-sama…”

Inuyasha was instantly at her side and growling at Sesshomaru, “What the fuck Sesshomaru! Calm down your scaring the ningen.”

Sesshomaru through his head back as tendrils of youki flowed off his body. Rin screamed as Sesshomaru let go and unearthly howl. “Inuyasha…”

Inuyasha turned and looked at Kagome, “What the hell set him off?”

She shook her head, “I don't know. I was trying to get the letter from him and he started to give off youki.”

“This is not acceptable.” Kagome jumped as Sho appeared behind her.

“Sho-san.” Sho nodded to Kagome.

“Everyone back up. I will not have a youkai transforming in my village.” Kagome was about to tell Sho what she thought was going on but Sho raised his hands and started to chant. This is not good. I need to get Inuyasha away from here.

Kagome turned and grabbed Inuyasha's hand as she ran towards Sango, Rin, and Miroku. “Kagome what is going on?”

Kagome stopped once she couldn't feel the spiritual energy coming off of Sho. “Sho-san is going to purify Sesshomaru's youki. It will more then likely knock him out for a day a two.”

Sango crossed his arms, “What set him off?”

Kagome shrugged, “I'm not sure but he was holding the scroll that was inside the box with Sorano's armor.”

Kagome gasped as she felt Sho's energy purify Sesshomaru's youki. It was like she was watching it in slow motion. Sesshomaru's head lulled to the side as he fell back and landed in a heap on the ground. Sho sighed as he reached down and took the scroll from Sesshomaru. “Kagome I believe this is what you were after.”

Kagome walked forward and took the scroll. “Thank-you, but Sesshomaru?”

Sho smiled softly, “Not to worry we will take care of him.” Sho bowed as he turned back and headed towards Sesshomaru.

Kagome opened the scroll and read it quickly. “No… NO!”

Inuyasha was instantly at her side, “Kagome?”

Kagome could feel the tears running down her cheeks as her friends gathered around her. “Sorano… is gone.”
