Chapter Eleven:

Kagome stood by the pool and held the jewel over her heart. She closed her eyes and pictured the jewel. She knew where the jewel belonged, but how was she to get it there? Inuyasha was right. She couldn't swallow the damn thing. There had to be another way.

She concentrated on the jewel. She felt the smooth sphere, the marble sized bulb. How was she going to get it into her body?

A warmth overcame her. Yes! That's it. Call upon the jewel and ask it. Ask it to join you, become a part of you. Return it from whence it came. She warmth covered her body, inside and out. She kept praying that the jewel would help her. The jewel would become a part of her.

Slowly, the jewel began to shrink in size. As it did, a pressure unlike anything Kagome had ever felt began building over her heart. She closed her eyes tighter, not wanting to break the enchantment. Her heart ached terribly as the jewel grew even smaller. As it disappeared, Kagome cried out in pain and fell to her knees.

Inuyasha had been playing keep away with Shippo when he heard Kagome's cry. Instantly worried, the hanyou dropped the ball and ran to her screams. He found her by the riverbank and was surprised by what he saw.

She was crumpled on the ground and naked. It looked as if she had been going into the pool when she had fallen. Inuyasha approached her and knelt beside her. He checked her vital life signs and was releaved when he found she still lived. Gently, he gathered her in his arms and studied her closer.

She was covered in what looked like a pink film. But, when he touched her, all he felt was skin. Her ebony hair had a single pink stripe that went down to her chin.

She smelled different, too. Gone was the human fragrance that Inuyasha normally placed with the miko. Now, there was something else. It wasn't demonic, but it wasn't human either. And she didn't smell like a hanyou. He gently pushed back a lock of her hair as he looked at her face. What was that smell? It was unlike anything he had ever smelled before. It wasn't a bad smell, just... different.

Her eyes fluttered and his ears perked up. "Inu... yasha," she whispered. "The.. jewel..."

He frantically looked around. The jewel was no where in sight. This made him worry even more. Without the jewel...

Kagome picked up her right hand and placed it over her heart. Once there, a bright pink light began to glow. Inuyasha gasped as he watched in fascination. "Ka.. Kagome..."

Her eyes opened and sky blue orbs gazed into golden orbs. "I'm ok, Inuyasha," she softly murmurred. "The jewel... I found a way to put it back where it belongs... Back inside my body..."

She passed out.

Back inside her body? Curious, Inuyasha gently lifted her right hand. A pink orb glowed above her heart. Of course. That's what she meant. Somehow, she was able to get the jewel to go into her heart. That's why she screamed out in pain.

He didn't know what had happened, nor how it had happened. But, he stood up and carried her back to Kaede's hut. She needed to be out of danger's way.

He placed her delicately on the floor and grabbed a blanket to cover her. Though he found her naked body more beautiful than anything he had ever seen, he had no desire to share it with anyone else. Especially a lecherous monk the hanyou knew was walking around.

A commotion outside caused the hanyou to go to the door to see what the problem was. A wolf demon stood surrounded by many of the villagers. He looked more agitated then frightened. "I'm looking for Sister Kagome," the wolf informed the villagers. None of them appeared to be listening.

Inuyasha approached and saw that Sango and Miroku were coming to investigate as well.

"Ginta?" Sango called as she approached the slowly growing crowd.

The wolf demon waved as he saw a face he recognized. "Where is Sister Kagome?" he asked the demonslayer.

Sango looked to Miroku and then to Inuyasha. The inu hanyou growled softly, "What do you want with Kagome?"

"It's Koga," the wolf told them. "Something happened and he needs her help."

The three looked at him curiously. Koga needed Kagome's help? For what? Inuyasha placed a hand on his sword in suspicion. "How did you know where to find us?" he questioned.

The wolf jumped back in fear. "I followed her scent," he hastily explained.

"What happened to Koga?" Kagome's voice asked from the hut.

All eyes turned to her in shock. The young miko stood in the doorway of the hut. She had a large blanket wrapped loosely around her shoulders and her body. Her eyes, though they were the same shade of blue, seemed to stare far away. A pink strip of hair fell along the left side of her head to her chin.

Ginta ran to the priestess. "Sister Kagome, it was horrible!" he cried. "I don't know what happened. We were fighting this demon and all of a sudden, there was a sound like a huge explosion. We looked to see where the explosion happened and then Koga fell. He was bleeding all over."

The priestess cocked her head to one side. "Why do you need me?" she asked.

"Koga told me to come and get you. Said you needed to know about this," he answered. He paused for a moment. Hysteria was starting to take over and Miroku had come to calm him down. When the wolf was finally able to talk, he said, "He's not healing."

This brought Kagome to a halt. "Inuyasha," she called, "I left my clothes by the river. Can you retrieve them for me?"

"What do I look like?" he grumbled, but went and fetched the clothing.

Miroku's eyebrows flew upwards. "Kagome, what are you doing undressed?" he questioned.

The miko rolled her eyes. "It's not what you think, pervert," she confirmed.

This only made the monk wonder even more.

Inuyasha returned with Kagome's clothes and the miko disappeared into the hut to dress. She came back outside with her typical school uniform on. She looked at the wolf demon. "How far away is Koga?"

Ginta pointed away from the village, into the forest. "About a day or two from here," he informed.

She shook her head. "That's too long. We'll never make it in time," she said. She looked up at the sky. "For all we know, Koga could already be dead."

"Do you know what the explosion was?" Sango asked her.

Again, Kagome shook her head. "I'm not certain, but I have a hunch. If it is what I think it is, we have more problems than Naraku just gathering demons to his cause," she whispered. Then, a thought occured to her. "Sesshomaru."

Inuyasha looked taken aback. "What does Sesshomaru have to do with anything?" he demanded.

Kagome closed her eyes and mentally searched for the taiyoukai. Her powers were very new to her and she wasn't sure if she could locate him. Wasn't sure if that was even included in her powers. She hoped he hadn't gone far.

Thankfully, it was included in her powers and she found Sesshomaru. She sent him a mental note, saying she needed him. Now. She mentally begged him to come to her aid, telling him it was a matter of life or death.

After the message was sent, she opened her eyes and looked at an irritated hanyou. She explained, "Sesshomaru can travel faster than we can. Much faster. We need to get to Koga now. He can't wait a day or two. If he does, he'll die."

"So, let him die," Inuyasha growled. "Who cares anyway?"

"I care!" Kagome shouted. "Have you already forgotten what it is we are fighting?! You can't just let one of our allies die! If Koga dies, that will be one less link in our chain. We'll become even weaker than we already are and it'll give Naraku a very high advantage."

Sesshomaru heard the plea. He didn't know how the miko had managed to contact him from such distance. She must be more powerful then he originally thought. He stopped and turned to look in the direction the plea had come. She wanted his help.

Sesshomaru was not known for giving his help. Especially not twice. He looked at the small girl that travelled with him. He wasn't sure why he allowed her to follow him, but he did. He never complained about her and he always came back if he left her somewhere. He supposed it was because she didn't have anyone else.

But why should he care? She wasn't his child. By the gods, he would never father a human, nor a half human! And yet, she was like his own child. Perhaps, one day, when the taiyoukai decided to make himself an heir, the child would be much like this human child.

He looked back towards the village where the miko stayed. "She calls," he said loud enough for Rin and Jaken to hear.

Rin looked up at the taiyoukai curiously as Jaken asked, "Who calls, mi'lord?"

The dog demon did not look down. "Rin, climb on Ah'Un's back. We don't have time to waste waiting for you to catch up."

"Yes, my lord," the little girl chimed as she did as she was told.

Never did Rin question the demon lord's orders. She listened and obeyed. No matter what he said, she did it, sometimes even to the extremes.

Sesshomaru didn't answer Jaken's question as he started to run back towards the miko's village.

It was confusing. Sesshomaru didn't give his help to someone twice, but something about this miko, this human, drew him to her. He wondered at that as he saw the small huts that dotted along the village's edge.

Kagome stood along the borders of the village and was the first to spot Sesshomaru's fast approaching form. She felt Inuyasha join her. "Do not say anything," she warned him. "I don't want any fights to break out."

He growled, but said nothing as Sesshomaru slowed and stood before them.

That's when the taiyoukai noticed it. The priestess had changed. Though she was wearing the same clothing as always, she was different. Much different. Suddenly, he realized she was more powerful than she had ever been before.

"Thank you for coming, Sesshomaru," the miko greeted.

He raised an eyebrow. Why had he come? Why had he even bothered? "Why did you call me?" he questioned.

Inuyasha gave a puzzled glance. "But, she never..."

"I need you to take me to the wolf demon prince Koga," she informed the taiyoukai, ignoring the hanyou. "I need to get to him now. Within the next few hours."

Sesshomaru was astonished. She wasn't asking him. "What makes you think I will take you there?" he softly demanded. The look in his eyes was one of pure danger.

She didn't blink. Didn't show any signs of fear. "If I don't get to him today, now," she informed, "the wolf prince will die. If he dies, we will have one less ally in our battle against Naraku. We cannot afford any losses right now."

His eyes widened ever so slightly. "That doesn't answer my question," he told her. "You waste my time."

He turned to leave and Kagome held out a hand to stop him. "If Koga dies, you won't have anymore time. We won't have anymore time," she notified.

He stopped. He did not turn around, though his eyes moved to look at her. "I will take you to the wolf demon, but know this, my brother and your companions will have to follow in our wake," he growled softly.

She nodded and began walking towards him until she felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked at the hanyou. She could tell he wasn't happy with the situation. She kissed him on the lips and brushed his hair out of his face. "Come to me, Inuyasha," she whispered. "I will go with Sesshomaru. You should be able to pick up our trail and follow us to Koga. I will see you in a day or so."

She kissed him again and then went to the taiyoukai. "Rin, go with Inuyasha," Sesshomaru ordered.

"Yes, my lord," the little girl stated.

With that, the demon and priestess turned into a ball of blue light and flew away.

Inuyasha growled as he began walking towards the ball. "Inuyasha?" Sango called.

"If you're coming, come," he told them. "I'm not waiting around so that one of those bastards can do something to Kagome."

Silently, the companions followed Inuyasha.
