The rest of the week went on well. Kouga didn't bother Kagome not that he could. Inu-Yasha, Miroku and Sango kept a close eye on her and made sure that she was left alone. And with Sesshomaru's ointment, Kagome's arm healed over quite nicely. She was itching to get back in the races. She had just come out, and now they probably all think that she's just some wuss and can't take the heat. She had to get back out there and prove that she was someone to contend with.
That day after school she went out to the parking lot and saw Inu-Yasha standing by his truck. It was quickly becoming a habit for them, him driving her home every day. Neither of them seemed to mind. Kagome just enjoyed his company. They didn't really speak much when he drove so there wasn't much else for her to enjoy.
The car ride today was just like all the others except that Kagome had a burning question she knew that Inu-Yasha could answer. She didn't want him to blow up at her while driving so she waited until they were just outside of her apartment building. Inu-Yasha put the car in park and sat there. Neither of them moved.
"Are you getting out or what?" He asked.
"Inu-Yasha?" She asked.
"Yeah?" He said looking at her.
"Where is the next run?" She asked in a hushed voice and looked seriously at him.
"What?!? You can't race now, you're not healed enough!" He yelled.
"I am too!" She yelled back. "I have to get back out there! I'm fine! Just let me do a couple of runs."
"I don't think so."
"Inu-Yasha, I'm going whether you tell me or not." She said stubbornly. Inu-Yasha gave her a `yeah-right' look. "Look, if you just tell me where they are, I won't have to put so much strain on my arm…" She looked at him innocently.
"Oh alright. We're meeting at the docks tonight, but promise me that you won't do more then three races."
"Yeah, yeah, sure!" She said excitedly. "Thank you!" She jumped over to where he was sitting and hugged him. Then, without thinking, she kissed him (oh come on, don't tell me you didn't see that coming!).
It took Kagome a second to realize her lips had made a new home against Inu-Yasha's. Her eyes snapped open and she pulled back. They sat for a while, ignoring the doorman yelling at them for holding up traffic. Inu-Yasha and Kagome were both surprised at her sudden action, but Inu-Yasha was quickly getting over that.
He looked from her eyes to her lips, and back again. He licked his lips and leaned towards her. Kagome's eyes widened at what he was doing and abruptly said, "I have to go!" Inu-Yasha stopped and jerked backward. "Thanks for the ride!" She said quickly and scrambled out of the truck.
Inu-Yasha watched in confusion as she grabbed her pack out of the bed and ran into her building.
`What the hell was that?' Was Inu-Yasha's last thought before he sped away.
~*~
Kagome was in a frenzy as she walked to the elevator to her apartment. `How could I kiss him?! He must think I'm some kind of whore or something! I mean what could I have been thinking?!? Kissing him! Well, maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something.' Then the idea hit her. "No way." She said aloud to no one. `I do not like him!' She looked down at her chest and poked it. "You know what happens when you get too close to a boy!"(Her heart people! She's talking to her heart! Jeez…)
Her mind started to repeat scenes in her head that usually resulted in the snarfage of a pint of ice cream when speak of the devil. A young looking man was leaning outside of Kagome's apartment door. "Hojo…" She whispered.
Hojo looked up and saw her staring at him. "Kagome," He said, pushing himself off the door. "I have been looking for you."
"What do you want? How did you find me?" She asked, all the while considering of running back into the elevator and leaving the building as fast as she possibly could.
"I followed you." He said, coming closer. "You know, I would think after what happed to your father that you wouldn't even get in two feet of a motorcycle let alone ride one."
~&*&~
HA! I so got all of you! None of you guessed it! HA! HA! HA! You all were like `Is it Naraku?' or `What about Kouga?' Come on guys! I've switched people around! I don't like all of the ordinary stories about Naraku always being the bad guy. It's getting boring. And Rumiko puts so little of Hojo into her manga/anime that I can do what ever I want with him!
~&*&~
"Leave me alone Hojo." Kagome said, clutching her bag to her chest. Instead of leaving, he inched closer to her.
"What's wrong Kagome?" He asked. "Are you ok?"
"I will be once you leave, now don't make me ask you again."
Hojo threw his hands up in front of him defensively. "Alright, I get it. I'll leave you alone, for now."
"For ever, Hojo."
His smile held no warmth or caring in it. "For now." He repeated. With that he left, brushing against her arm. She watched him get into the elevator and sighed in relief when the doors closed.
She had no time to wonder about what Hojo had meant. What ever it was, it wasn't something she was going to like, she was sure of that. But right now she had to get her homework done, before she could go out racing. `I defiantly have to be more careful next time I come home.' She thought. `Or else someone more dangerous could follow me.'
Her homework took longer than she thought, and by the time she was done, nighttime had already come out and she still needed to eat dinner. Sighing, she quickly made some chicken-flavored ramen (I'm eating that for dinner tonight!) and dressed in her usual attire.
~*~
Finding the race was easier than she thought it would be. She could just see the many different taillights when someone pulled in front of her and two people pulled on either side of her. Kagome looked over her shoulder and saw a girl in a black and pick outfit. On her other side she saw a boy in a purple and black one. The person in front of her was wearing red.
`I wonder who they are…' Kagome thought sarcastically. It was a little strange having an escort to the race and it was defiantly strange that some of the best riders were doing it, as everyone made obvious with their staring.
(Mmkay, I'm going to use racing names when they are at the races, mmkay?)
When they stopped, Silver Rebel pulled up right next to Red and turned off her engine. "What are you guys doing?" She asked.
"Making sure you don't do too much." He said. "And Naraku has a nasty history of going after racers that survive his poison. I won't let you get hurt again."
Silver Rebel looked up at him, but Red kept looking around and not her. "You can't save me all the time." She said quietly before setting the kickstand down and sitting side ways on the seat.
Red looked at her back and then to the rip in her coat.
"I can try." He whispered.

Kagome trudged to the elevator, dragging her feet, dead with tired. She vaguely remembered pressing the floor number, walking to her apartment, walking in and collapsing on the bed. She was still wearing all of the clothes she had for racing, her helmet teetering on the side of the bed.
Sometime in the middle of the night, Kagome's helmet fell off of her bed and landed with a clunk. At the noise, Kagome awoke with a start. Her head jerked up and she blinked the weariness out of her eyes. She laid her head back down and grumbled as a siren grew louder and louder as it passed down her street. She groaned as the sound began to wake her up more.
"Just go away!" She complained at it. But the sound didn't go away; in fact it seemed to stop right outside her window.
Curious as to what's going on and knowing she would have to get up soon anyway, Kagome got up and went to the window to see what was going on. A fire truck was parked on the curb in front of her building. `Oh how nice.' She thought before the realization struck her. `A FIRETRUCK WAS IN FRONT OF MY BUILDING!' She heard more sirens on the way.
The ceiling groaned from above her as she opened the window and stuck her head out. She looked up and saw some of the upstairs apartments' windows were open and smoke was billowing out. Her eyes widened as she pulled herself back inside.
As quickly as she could, Kagome grabbed her helmet from the floor and ran out of her bedroom. She was lucky because as soon as she did, the ceiling collapsed. She threw the helmet on and shoved the visor down before she left her apartment. Parts of the hallway were burning and thick black smoke filled the air.
Kagome's helmet filtered some of the clean air out of the mass as she ran to the stairs. It seemed as if their wasn't anyone on the stairwell as she took the steps two at a time. Breathing hard through her helmet, Kagome looked at the landing below her. A small light-brown-haired boy sat in the corner crying.
Knowing there wasn't any time, Kagome reached down and gathered the young boy in her arms. She held him close as she continued down the stairs.
She burst through the garage door and sprinted to her bike. With one hand she ripped the cover off and jumped on, twisting the boy in front of her. With one arm she held him still and with another she started the motorcycle. It roared to life and she drove out of the garage.
She drove passed a fire truck when the boy suddenly yelled, "Daddy!" Kagome stopped; the boy jumped off and ran to the open arms of his father. (I just couldn't kill him!)
"Shippo!" He yelled. "I was so scared! Don't ever leave me like that again!"
Shippo hugged his father and said, "I'm sorry daddy." Then he turned to Kagome. "That nice lady saved me."
She was breathing hard and with all the noise, she couldn't hear him, but she saw his mouth form the words `Thank-you' and she nodded in response. Her hand and body took on a life of it's own as it drove her away from the blazing building.
Her muscle memory helped her to stay balanced as she gently rode down the street until she reached Inu-Yasha's house. She rode up the driveway and dropped to the ground in relief. Her motorcycle though, fell on her leg and she screamed as the fire hot motor burned into her leg. (Think, cooking eggs and then putting the frying pan on the inside of you knee.)
She began to struggle to get out but something was making it hard for her to breathe. She screamed and flailed about until the bike was suddenly lifted off of her legs. Then a set of arms hooked under hers and someone grabbed her legs.
Distantly she could hear someone talking and it sounded familiar. She opened her eyes and saw Sesshomaru opening the door to the truck and Sango was holding her feet. They laid her in the front and whoever was holding her arms took off her helmet and placed her head on his lap. The last thing that Kagome remembered was looking up into two very concerned amber eyes.

Kagome woke up a few hours later and she felt something sticking out of her nose. She reached her hand up to wipe it off and something like plastic met her hand. Slowly she opened her eyes and saw she was in a cramped with a pink curtain at her side, a television attached to the wall and a pull out armchair with Sango sitting in it reading a book.
There was something sticking out of her hand. She turned it over and saw an IV dripping a clear liquid down into a needle that was piercing her flesh. Kagome turned her head to look at Sango and the pain seemed to wake up too. Her head began to throb and with her body shifting, a pain on the inside of her leg stung her.
She sucked in air and Sango got up from her chair. "Kagome! You're awake!" She said. "You shouldn't try to move."
"Yeah, I kinda realized that." Kagome said. "Are we in a hospital?"
Sango smiled. "Well, sorta. We're in a clinic that Sesshomaru runs. Do you remember what happened?"
"Sorta, it's all kinda blurry right now."
"Why don't I fill in the blanks." She said, sitting on the side of the bed. "From what we figure, your building burned down but you escaped before it did. Sesshomaru said you must have worn your helmet because the smoke inhalation was so bad."
"What?" Kagome interrupted. "Why would it be bad to wear my helmet?"
"Well, you probably thought that the mask could filter out the smoke but it did the opposite. Sesshomaru said that the way the helmet was designed, not only did you breathe in the smoke you ran through, but the smoke that was trapped in you helmet and the toxins that stayed in the mask so you continued to breathe it in."
Kagome sighed. She poisoned herself and probably could have died.
Sango continued. "Then you rode your bike to our house and it fell on you, that's why your leg probably hurts, and we took you here!"
"Everything's gone." Kagome said quietly. "My clothes, pictures, money, home…"
"Ah, but that's where you're wrong." Sango said a smile rapidly growing on her face. "You have a home!" Kagome stared at her stupidly. "Sesshomaru says as soon as you're well, you can come live with us!"
"I haven't had much luck with living with other people…" Kagome said quietly.
"You don't have lice do you?" Sango asked scooting away comically.
"No."
"Then you're perfect!" She yelled. "All we gotta do is buy you some stuff, and move you into my room…"
"Are you sure?" Kagome asked worriedly.
"Well, as long as you're not some bad-ass-street-biker-chick, `cuz that could cause a problem…" Kagome scrunched her eyebrows. "I'm kidding!" Sango said throwing her hands up.
"Very funny." Kagome said sarcastically. "Where's Inu-Yasha?"
Sango gave a small smile. "We forced him to go check out what was going down at your apartment building." She said barely containing her laughter.
"Forced him?" Kagome asked confused.
"Sesshomaru had to give him a sedative so that Miroku and me could pry him off your bed and into the truck." Her smirk grew and soon both of them were laughing at the mental picture of Sango and Miroku holding onto Inu-Yasha's feet, lifting him in mid air while he held on to the bedrail.
Just then the devil walked through the door. ("Oops, wrong room!" ha ha! Just kidding! It was Inu-Yasha!) His hair was a little messed-up and he was breathing hard. Obviously he had run the whole way there. At the sight of him, Kagome and Sango laughed harder.
Inu-Yasha glared at them but soon his expression changed when Kagome started to cough violently. Without her realizing it, she had used all of her breath laughing and she couldn't get any back in. (Dude, I have asthma and this happens to me a lot!)
Inu-Yasha was at her side instantly, gently pushing her into a sitting position. Kagome gave a huge gasp and air filled her lungs. She began to breathe deeply and only coughed a couple more times.
"Kagome, are you ok?" Sango asked concerned. Kagome nodded and gave a few more coughs before something over by Inu-Yasha caught her eye.
He hadn't noticed and was busy ragging on Sango while she tried to get a word in, she had noticed what Kagome was staring at. "I can't believe you would let her get like this Sango! You know she's not supposed to get too excited! You're so…"
But what she was, never made it out of Inu-Yasha's mouth. Something, or someone was tugging on his ear. He heard the other girl give a small, almost silent gasp. He felt like a ton of bricks dropped into the middle of his stomach.
`Kagome knows.' He thought. `Kagome knows what I am.' Panic began to rise in his throat but for the life of him, Inu-Yasha could not pull away from her grip.
He heard the door open behind him and Sesshomaru walked through the door. "Well Kagome, how are you…" He trailed off when he saw the scene in front of him.
Kagome saw him standing there and sheepishly dropped her hands to her lap and stared at them. Without another word, Sesshomaru closed the door behind him, took a chair and sat at the end of her bed.
"Well, now you know." He started. "No use keeping other appearances up." His eyes closed and his features began to change right in front of her. His hair seemed to flare out, making it thicker and longer and it broke through the tie that was holding it back. He seemed to grow in the chair so that, Kagome was sure, if he stood he would be well over 7 feet. His fingers and nails grew and markings on his face appeared.
Kagome didn't know what to say. Sesshomaru opened his golden colored eyes and stared expectantly at her. "What…" Kagome stuttered. "What… are… who…"
"We are demons, Kagome." Sesshomaru said. "And this place is for magically inclined people. That's why you are here and not at a hospital."
"Demons?" She asked breathlessly.
"That's right."
Then something Sesshomaru said clicked in her head. "But wait, why am I here exactly? I'm not a demon, am I?" She was very confused. Could she really be a demon and not known it?
"Not that I can tell. But you are a miko." He said simply. "Well, you have the potential to become a very powerful one."
"What do you mean?" Sango asked. "You believe that she could become a priestess?"
"I'm not sure, but I believe Kagome has the Shikon No Tama embedded in her body." Sesshomaru said, glancing at Inu-Yasha.
Sango seemed to know what Sesshomaru was talking about, Inu-Yasha looked like someone slapped him and Kagome felt overloaded. "Kagome, do you know what the Shikon No Tama is?" Sesshomaru asked softly.
Kagome's mouth opened and shut a few times before sound would come out of it. "It's… it's… a really powerful jewel."
Sesshomaru nodded. "And because you are a miko, your powers are intensified." Kagome shook her head in disbelief.
"Kagome?" Inu-Yasha asked softly.
"I can't believe this, it's just too much." She said, her hands covering her face. "Just too much." Inu-Yasha sat on the bed and put his arms around her.
"You're fine Kagome." He said reassuringly. "We are all the exact same as before."
"No, no, no…" She sobbed. Sesshomaru nodded to Sango and motioned for them to leave the room. With one last desperate look to Kagome, Sango left with him.
She shut the door and turned to Sesshomaru. "Where's the monk?" She asked.
"He called not too long before Inu-Yasha got here." He said. "He went back to the house and said something about fixing a bike."
"Ok, well I'll go home and help." She said glancing at the forgotten hospital door.
"She'll be fine. Inu-Yasha will take good care of her."
"I certainly hope so."
*Back in Kagome's room*
"It's only Sesshomaru and me that have demon blood." Inu-Yasha said.
"Sesshomaru and I." Kagome replied quietly."
"Nice to see you still have your sense of humor." She smiled at him. "Anyway, we share the same demon father but Sesshomaru's mother was a demon and mine was human. That means I'm only half-demon."
Kagome nodded. Inu-Yasha seemed to think that feeding her more information would help clear her head of any doubts about him. Shows how much he knows. "What about Sango and Miroku, are they demons too?"
Inu-Yasha smiled. "No." He said. "Although Miroku might seem that way sometimes. He is a monk, well he was trained to be. He doesn't really follow all the rules. And Sango is demon exterminator…"
"A demon exterminator?" Kagome interrupted. "Why would demons be living with someone that wants to `exterminate' them?"
"Well she doesn't want to kill us anymore. We all met at a race. Both of them sensed that we were demons right away. After they figured out neither Sesshomaru nor I were threatening, they backed off. And if wondering about how we all came to live together, I couldn't tell you. Not because I don't want to, it's just that I don't really know myself. It was just one day Miroku came to school and said he had no place to live and a few days later we found Sango living out of a small abandoned car. I said they could stay with me and they never left."
"You make that sound like a bad thing." Kagome smiled.
"Well, from what Sesshomaru said, you'll be finding out what it's really like to live with us."
"Is it really that bad?" She asked.
"Not once you get used to it."
"Hey, hold on," Kagome said thinking about something. "You guys met at a race? Sesshomaru used to race?"
"Yeah, called him The White Demon. Catchy title huh?"
Kagome laughed. "But hey, what happened to my stuff?" Kagome asked suddenly remembered her prize possessions were on her when she passed out.
"There in the closet. Don't worry, nobody noticed it was you." Kagome smiled but it was interrupted by a large yawn. "You better get some sleep." He said, pushing her over to the other side of the bed and laying down on his side next to her.
"Um Inu-Yasha?" Kagome asked. He had closed his eyes but he still gave a `hm?' in response. "Are you going sleep with me."
"Get those dirty thoughts out of your head." He said, eyes still closed. "And yes, now get some sleep." He put an arm over her waist, like he was finalizing the decision.
Kagome smiled before she too closed her eyes. It was the most comforting sleep she had since she was a child.

Tqo: There you go. Extra long, just for you.
New Reader: Um, that's great. Who's the Silver Rebel?
Tqo: *smacks hand to head* That's right you haven't read the other chapters. *Looks at reader* Well what are you waiting for!
New reader: Eep!
Tqo: Well, someone asked me what music should be behind this and quiet frankly I don't know because I usually write this all in my classes and we can't listen to music in there. If it helps, I'm listening to the `Peter Pan' soundtrack while I typed this. You have to go see the movie! I mean it was so cool, I went twice! And the soundtrack is awesome too! *Starts to walk away* Oh yeah! I forgot! I misspelled Motocross in the other chapters. Sorry! Bye, bye! See you next month… Just kidding!!!
