Chapter 20-Lost Girl of the Future
Kagome-Stop watching TV Inuyasha! Akeela will be here any minute, and I don't think that she's very accustomed to the sight of a hanyou, let alone one just watchin' television!
Inuyasha-Fine, Kagome. Then where should I go, hmmm?
Inuyasha lazily got off the couch and dragged himself to the stairs while Kagome was frantically cleaning. Kagome gave him a death glare and he quickly ran up the stairs. Kayoko giggled, at the sight of the two.
Kayoko-You sure told him whose boss in your relationship!
Kagome blushed at the girl's statement. Kagome knew that Kayoko could read her mind, but had she already gone through all of her secrets? Or just Inuyasha's?
Kagome-Yeah, it's like sit only longer!
Suddenly they heard a loud thud from upstairs, the two girls looked at each other and laughed as they heard Inuyasha yelp ow (!). Inuyasha ran down the stairs, but as he did, there came a knock at the door. He reached the bottom and saw Kayoko shooing him back up the stairs and Kagome was going to answer the door. He got the hint and knew if he didn't get to Kagome's room, he'd been falling flat on his face a lot more often because of sit. Or getting punched in the head with Kayoko's fist.
He could hear the sound of Kagome's muffled voice from below him, and tried to eavesdrop on their conversation.
Kagome-Hey, nice to see you again Akeela!
Akeela-Yeah, but can we talk ab….
Her words were cut short as she caught sight of Kayoko levitating above the couch in Kagome's living room.
Akeela-What are you doing?
Kayoko looked down and noticed what was happening and tried to quickly explain.
Kayoko-Oh, this happens involuntarily when I'm really excited.
Kagome-Well, come on in Akeela and we'll tell you more about each other.
Kayoko-Well, what questions do you have for me, because by this age you should be experiencing some power leakage.
Akeela-Excuse me?
Kayoko-Power Leakage. It's when you powers come out involuntarily because you haven't used them enough. Usually only happens to people who don't know about their powers. And well, you obviously don't know much about your powers, only what you've experienced.
Akeela-Yeah, some weird stuff's been goin' on with me. Sometimes I wake up to find myself above my bed in mid-air. Or, when I look in the mirror in the morning, at first glance I look like I'm wearing a kimono and have longer hair.
Kayoko-Your central nervous system is trying to contact you from at night…in your dreams. The girl you see in the mornings is Nianna. You're one of her reincarnations and so am I. You have these powers, because she did. But let me ask you something.
Akeela-Sure, anything.
Kayoko-Do you live with your dad?
Akeela frowned a little at the question, and looked down. When she finally lifted her head up, she had a dismal look on her face. Kayoko knew what had happened.
Akeela-No, it's just me and mom.
Kagome-You know I live with just my mother too. Except for grandpa…and Sota…and Buyo. I'm not really helping am I?
Akeela-It's all right. But you know I do always wonder where he went.
Kagome-Why don't you know where he went?
Kayoko-Cause her father was a demon. And since we're in the future, they like to keep hidden, and Akeela would be an easy target for her father's enemies to get back at him. He probably couldn't have let anyone but Akeela's mother figure it out. Not even you Akeela.
Akeela-But how do you know so much about me?
Kayoko-Well, since we're both reincarnations of Nianna, everything that ever had a major influence in her life, like her parents. Has to be exactly the same in her reincarnation's lives. Since Nianna's father was a demon, both of our fathers had to be demon's too. It's just that for my time, it was more common.
Kagome-I know this may be a little too much to take in right now. Why don't we just tell her more when we get back to the feudal era? That is if you'd like to come with us Akeela?
Akeela-Feudal Era?
Kayoko-Yeah, like 500 hundred years ago or so.
Akeela-Can you go back in time?
Kayoko-Yeah, but the way that Kagome gets here is through the well.
Kagome-If you're willing to come back with us we'll introduce you to other half demons.
Kayoko-Like Inuyasha for instance.
Inuyasha heard his name and rushed down the stairs from Kagome's room. When Kagome heard his footsteps she slapped her forehead and shook her head. Inuyasha reached the bottom of the stairs and Akeela opened her eyes wide.
Akeela-Uh…hi?
Inuyasha sauntered over to her and took great pride that she might be a little frightened of him.
Inuyasha-So you must be Akeela. You don't look too much like Kayoko, but just enough to be her reincarnation. Akeela sweat drops. But she suddenly notices Inuyasha's ears twitching.
Akeela-You're ears are sooo cuuttteeee!
She started petting his ears as the hanyou started to growl.
Kagome-Well, don't you need to call your house first? Tell them something.
Akeela-Oh yeah, I'll just tell them that we're getting to know each other and I'm spending the night at your house.
Kagome-But what about for tomorrow.
Akeela-Tomorrow's Saturday, my parents don't care if I'm gone all weekend long, as long as I'm back at school on Monday.
Akeela grabbed the phone and made a quick call while Inuyasha interrogated the other two girls.
Inuyasha-So she's coming with us for the weekend?
Kayoko-It's just so that she can learn more about us and what her powers can really do.
Akeela walked back into the room and smiled politely at all of them until they were all looking at her with confused expressions.
Akeela-Well, I can go for the weekend, but need to be back for school.
Kagome-That's convenient! Cause it just so happens that I have an algebra test on Monday that I really can't miss!
Kayoko burst laughing at the way Kagome talked in such a stressed manner. Inuyasha blushed; he liked the way that Kayoko laughed. It was always so sincere and heart warming.
