Chapter 27-Hidden Promise
The group had reached Germany by morning, and were surprised to see everyone, including Kilala on Cumi and that Cumi had expanded significantly in order hold everyone while in their slumber. Kayoko awoke first to find her eyes were still wet. Had she fallen asleep crying? Or was she having a dream that made her cry? It hit her, she'd had a dream but it wasn't just a dream…it was a premonition. If only she could remember, but all that came forth from her memories was an image of a dark purple and black miasma that she was running from and she couldn't command her demonic powers to come forth. She was trapped up against the wall of a castle, the figure covered by mist was approaching her as a hand clearly came forth from the poison and was reaching out for her with a tainted jewel shard between two fingers and its fingers were coming straight for Kayoko's forehead. She saw that at the same time the figure was coming after the jewel already embedded in her forehead with its other hand. Then the entire dream had faded away.
Kayoko couldn't recall what the rest of the vision had been that had scared her so much. Just recalling it sent shivers down her spine. But her jewel, the figure was reaching out for her black diamond. Was someone looking for her and seeking out her powers at a time when she couldn't use them? It struck hard, she was being hunted and at this very moment someone might be seeking her demise. But who could it have possibly been? In her dream she knew that she sensed a demonic aura and the person knew when she changed into a mortal because… she was thinking hard now. How did she know that they knew? Or was it just luck? No, anyone who every sought to destroy her were all very cunning, no one of little intelligence would even dare to make her angry. An image came to her, it was from her dream. Kayoko was sitting in a castle as the sun was setting and she couldn't find the moon. Yes the person had cunning and had planned to capture her that night she was positive.
Through all this thinking Kayoko failed to realize that someone was beside her. She could feel the heat from their body and their slow breathing, she thanked Kami…whoever they were they were still asleep. She looked down at her waist that revealed an arm that was cradling her. She examined the arm from afar and saw a brown sweatband of fur on the wrist. She'd seen it before…Koga.
As angry as Kayoko was with him, she liked the feel of him right beside her, holding her in his loving embrace. Wait what was she talking about? This gesture was one from none other then a hentai, and yet she couldn't help feeling it was right when her head knew it was wrong. Laying her head down to go back to sleep she realized that someone was watching so she threw the arm off and sat up. Koga still lay motionless and asleep even though she smacked him with his own arm. Kayoko's eyes scanned Cumi's surface and soon saw that Cumi had been courteous enough to make a soft, fluffy little tree made of cloud for Inuyasha to sleep in. Unfortunately Inuyasha didn't always go to sleep when his was in trees.
Kayoko saw his half-open eyes and ran up to the base of the tree. The Dog Hanyou was looking down on her as she jumped up to the branch he was sitting on. Of course the branch couldn't hold two so she sat directly across from him on another artificial branch. He looked at her as she looked down.
Kayoko-About last night Inuyasha.
Inuyasha-Yeah you made me promise something and I didn't know what I was promising you.
Kayoko-I didn't' start talking to tell you what I made you promise me, but I had a dream last night. More like a nightmare actually, someone was chasing me but I couldn't tell who and I could tell that they wanted the black diamond in my forehead. They knew when I couldn't summon my powers and exploited that knowledge to capture me. I can't tell you more because I can't really remember.
Inuyasha-So you don't know who was trying to steal your powers.
Kayoko-No, I know they've been following me for quite some time.
Inuyasha-How do you know?
Kayoko-Because they've had to be watching me in order to know when I transform into a complete mortal.
There was a silence as the two pondered what should be done. They heard a sound, sounded like Koga. Kayoko could see that he'd finally woken up from his slumber and was now realizing that she'd left. She jumped down from the tree and sauntered over to him and placed her hand on her hip.
Kayoko-I see you've woken up and how was your sleep?
Koga-Pleasant, at least until you left.
Inuyasha heard Koga and immediately raced down to meet him. He was infuriated that Koga would even try and pull a move on Kayoko. Judging from Inuyasha's expression, Kayoko assumed that he hadn't seen Koga with his arm around her while she was sleeping this morning. But now he obviously did, thanks to Koga and his big mouth.
Kayoko-Yeah I saw your arm and threw it back at you, took you a while to figure out I left though.
Koga-I was still lingering on the heat from where you laid and your scent still hanging in the air.
Inuyasha-Shut up Wolf boy, how dare you disrespect Kayoko in such a way!
Everyone else woke up because of the argument, and Kayoko knew that she was going to be embarrassed if they continued fighting over her like this. She pulled out two little scrolls and raised her index and middle fingers on each hand and closed her eyes. She moved her fingers slightly in the direction of each demon and the scrolls were immediately locked over their mouths, retaining anything they might've said to each other or anyone else. Immediately Inuyasha and Koga tried to remove the scrolls but the little pieces of parchment started to glow purple as they did so and they were now desperately trying to scratch them off. Kayoko shook her head and opened her eyes to see everyone laughing at the desperate attempts of the demons to remove the scrolls.
Kayoko-We've arrived in France and are now just above the meeting place of the wolves for the gathering.
She turned to Inuyasha and looked at him as he (and Koga) suddenly stopped trying to pry off the parchment.
Kayoko-Inuyasha, this is where Kagome, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kilala and you all get off. I will order Cumi to send you home straightaway, and I will return once we're back in Japan and have completed the ritual.
She moved her hands to point to the ground and the scrolls fell off of the demons' mouths. Inuyasha stood there with mouth agape, as Kayoko stepped closer to him. She placed her mouth an inch away from his ear and whispered.
Kayoko-Please remember to keep your promise.
She stepped away and held her hands low.
Kayoko-I hope you figure out what it is.
Koga-All wolves ready to leave? Ayame, Ginta, Hakaku, Akeela, Kayoko?
The other four wolves (besides Kayoko) in unison-Affirmative
Kayoko-I'll see the rest of you soon, remember to take care of them Cumi.
The six wolves jumped off the cloud (which was now close to the ground) and ran off without another word. As they left Inuyasha standing, and hoping he could figure out what Kayoko meant.
