Chapter 6: So what do you know?

"Later Sess, see ya Ship."

"So you are just going to tell her?" Shippo asked as Inuyasha boarded the elevator.

"She has the right to know Shippo. It's up to her what to do with the knowledge."

"That is a very mature way of thinking of it little brother. I am impressed."

"Hai, thanks. I've been working on it all night, didn't sleep a wink. See ya later."

"Hey Inuyasha." Kagome stood up from where she was sitting on the shrine steps.

"Hey Kagome." he got out of his car and walked toward her. "Wanna talk here, or go somewhere else? I have a great place we can go if you want."

"That sounds good."

Inuyasha led Kagome through the woods behind her house. They walked a few yards until they came to a small bridge. Inuyasha climbed down the rocks and under the bridge, Kagome followed closely.

"Wow, its really nice down here." Kagome looked around. The rushing stream splashed the rocky bank. The bridge over head provided great shelter, but still allowed sunlight to peek through.

"Hai, I come here a lot. At least since it's been built." he quickly stopped talking, it had been built over a hundred years ago.

"So, what do you know?" Kagome found a flat rock that looked particularly comfortable. Inuyasha sat on a rock opposite her and exhaled deeply.

"I am a hanyou." she looked at him with mild curiosity, "They are a 'strand' of demon. Half human, half demon."

"I've heard of hanyou's before." she replied simply.

"Right, sorry. Anyway, Sesshomaru and Shippo are both demon's. When a demon, finds a person they care about, they mate with them. Shippo talked somewhat of this. The marks on your neck come from your mate. They show other Youkai that you are taken, and to leave you alone or your mate will kick their ass."

"But I've never-" she stopped speaking. A pain unlike any she had experienced surged through her body. Inuyasha couldn't stop this, he could only watch her reaction as she tried to fight the crippling pain.

"If you forget your mate, or choose to pretend you don't have one, you get headaches when another man touches you. It kind of forces you to 'be good'." Inuyasha continued speaking, though he wasn't sure if Kagome was taking in any of it. "What I am trying to say Kagome, is you have a mate. You left him- purely by accident- now he is looking for you and wants you to remember him."

Kagome regained some control of her thoughts. She managed to ask "Who? Who is he?" her breathing grew shallow as Inuyasha responded.

"Me." her eye's rolled into the back of her head and she collapsed onto the rocky ground.

"Kagome. . . Kagome. . ." Kagome's eye's opened to see Inuyasha's eye's filled with concern. She tried to sink into the ground.

"Look, I don't find your jokes funny. I don't want to talk to you right now. I have to go." Kagome stood up and began climbing the rocks.

"Wait. There is more." Inuyasha said. Kagome stopped mid climb and looked down. She climbed back down and stood in front of him.

"So talk."

"Kagome. . . You are a Miko. When you were fifteen years old you held a sacred jewel, known as The Jewel of Four souls - The Shikon no Tama. You were it's guardian because you were the reincarnation of the Priestess Kikyou who lived five hundred years before you. One day you fell into the well outside your house. It brought you back to that feudal error of Japan. There you met me. You freed me. Then you broke the Shikon no Tama. I wanted to use it to become a full demon, but as the years went on and we collected the shards together, I grew to like you. Eventually, I fell in love with you. We confessed our love for each other. . . to you I guess it would have been about a six months ago. We mated three months after that.
"You are my mate Kagome - whether you remember or not. You are mine. I love you."

"Well," Kagome stood in complete confusion, and her head throbbed painfully with every word he spoke. "I think you are psychotic. You need to seek psychiatric help. Have a nice life. You can leave me out of it." She once again began to climb the wall.

Inuyasha could feel his heart breaking as he watched her climb away from him. "I can prove it!" he shouted. She stopped at the top of the hill. He leapt up and stood in front of her. "I can prove it all. Come with me."

Kagome allowed herself to be dragged back through the woods to the well. She gave him a questioning look as he stood on the edge of the well, preparing to jump in. "Come on." he held out his hand. She sighed heavily and accepted it.

"I've done this before." she said out loud as they fell into the blackness.

On the other side of the well Inuyasha could hear the familiar yelling of the Miko. He smiled and grabbed onto Kagome who held back. He climbed the ivy and leapt quickly into a tree with Kagome in his arms.

"Shh, watch." he whispered.

"Kagome!" Inuyasha yelled. Kagome looked at the Inuyasha sitting next to her, who remained silent. She looked down at the ground and saw another Inuyasha, walking after. . . her?

"I told you not to bug me about it Yasha! I'm going home."

"Come on Kag, you know I was kidding." Inuyasha ran up behind Kagome and put his arms protectively around her, prohibiting her from moving any further.

"I'll come back in a few days." she leaned back into his touch. Inuyasha watched the Kagome sitting next to him watch the couple on the ground with extreme interest.

"I know, but I'll miss you." Inuyasha nuzzled his head against her neck affectionately.

"I'll miss you too. But I have to take this geography test. Besides the jewel is complete and there is nothing to do." Kagome replied

"I can think of a few things we could do." he smirked behind her back, though she couldn't see.

"Hentai." she said as she unconsciously raised her hand and found her way to his left ear, petting it gently. "I'll be back before you know it." Kagome turned to face her mate and he kissed her softly.

"I guess I'll see you in a few days" the Inuyasha sitting in the tree laughed at this. *A few day's my butt. *

"Bye baka. I love you." she kissed him again, this time not wanting to leave the warmth of his lips. Finally the need to breathe got the better of them both.

"I love you too." he paused before adding, "wench." the pair smiled and Kagome kissed him a final time before she hopped into the well.

Inuyasha didn't care to watch himself contemplate the jewel - he had done that enough in his spare time. When the Inuyasha on the ground walked away the Inuyasha in the tree spoke to Kagome.

"You see. I wasn't lying."

"I don't know what kind of mind games you are playing, but this isn't funny. Take me home now."

Inuyasha picked her up and climbed through the trees, "Those were our friends. Don't you remember? Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kaede?" Kagome looked into the hut and saw the people she assumed Inuyasha was speaking of. Her head couldn't have felt worse.

"I want to go home Inuyasha, please, please take me home." she felt tears fall down her cheeks and Inuyasha couldn't stand to see her cry.

Quickly he leapt back through the trees and jumped in the well. Kagome took off running the second she climbed out of the well. She ran into the house and locked the door.

"Just leave me alone! I don't want to see you again. Please go away." she cried as Inuyasha knocked on the door.

"All right Kagome. I love you. Take care of yourself." he whispered through the door before calmly walking to his car and driving home.

"Why? Why do I know you? Why do I want to remember? What do I want to remember? I don't understand. I don't want to understand." she spoke softly to herself, leaning against the door and finally collapsing onto the floor.

"Kagome? Oh you poor thing. Come on dear." Kagome's mother helped her off the floor and into the living room.

"So counselor, what is the verdict?" Sesshomaru asked as Inuyasha walked into his den.

"She never wants to see me again. She thinks I am psychotic, and that I need mental help." he sat on a chair and put his hands through his hair, looking up to the ceiling.

"In time, dear brother. She will remember and she will realize that you and her are meant to be together."

"And what if we weren't?" Inuyasha allowed his anger to be unleashed. "What if we weren't suppose to fall in love? Her falling through the well might have been her destiny but who say's I was suppose to be a part of that? Now we are mated for life. If she never wants to see me again, she'll never be able to be with anyone else without getting a terrible headache and thinking 'this is wrong, something is wrong here'. It's all my fault. She is going to live the rest of her life, sad and alone!
"And it is my fault because I fell in love with her. And because she doesn't want to remember who I am! She doesn't want to be with me the way I want to be with her! Not anymore." he didn't want to cry, he hated crying, felt it was a sign of weakness. "I showed her Sess. The well, we can still go through - I showed her the day she left. She still doesn't believe. Thinks I am playing mind tricks with her. She doesn't believe." Sesshomaru didn't know what to say to his brother.

"Inuyasha. I know you are going to hate me for saying this, or at least think I am making it up; but, if Kagome and you weren't destined to be mated - the jewel would have foreseen that, or the gods would have. There is a reason you were mated and we'll just have to let fate play itself out. You haven't lost your faith have you? Everything happens for a reason, and everything will work out for the best."

"What if the best isn't what I want? What if the best is that she grows old, and lives a lonely life- what if that was her fate all along? What if I go back in time and convince her not to leave? Could I do that? What if. . what if, what if, what if! Gods I hate those words! My life cannot be run by 'what if's'." Sesshomaru didn't stop Inuyasha's outburst as he stood up and walked out the den door. The sound of the door to his room slamming could be heard, along with the sound of his radio blaring.

"What happened Sesshomaru?" Shippo came into the den, having narrowly avoided being plowed over by a very upset hanyou.

"Sit down. I'll tell you."
