Chapter 17: The Hanyou and the Priestess
"Inuyasha hasn't come home yet?" Sesshomaru asked as he walked into the quaint apartment. It was almost seven in the afternoon and he had left early in the morning.
"No," Shippo called from his room. He was too busy getting ready to see Chizzabella (a girl he had been dating for a few weeks) to really care about anything else.
"Must have made up with the Miko." he responded numbly, walking into his office.

"Oh gosh! Then we can put a small table as sort of a breakfast nook here. Oh and here we can make a nursery. Oh I'm going to have Pups!" Kagome kissed Inuyasha's cheek before she continued. She jumped from room to room smiling happily and planning something for everything.
"Baby," Kagome ignored Inuyasha and continued to jump from place to place, "Kag," still no answer, "Hey Wench!" she stopped and turned to look at him. "We have time baby." he gently guided her mouth to his for a brief kiss before she pulled away, still smiling.
"I know, I'm just so happy!" The pair joined hands and continued walking around the house.
"Oh and the view from this room is perfect for our master bedroom and here . . ." Inuyasha shook his head as Kagome ran to the bedroom window, a wide smile easily forming on his face; though a voice nagged in the back of his head.

Kagome lay in the middle of the empty room. She had dubbed it the living room. It had a gorgeous fire place and the spiral staircase was slightly in the corner of the room. Inuyasha lay on the floor next to her, still happy as could be, but slightly relieved she had calmed down.
"Inuyasha?" Kagome asked after quite some time of staring at the dazzling chandelier.
"Mm?" he responded.
"Why didn't you stay with Kikyou?" she sat up slightly, supporting herself on her right elbow, looking to Inuyasha.
"Kagome," he exhaled, trying to calm his frustration. "How many times are we goin-"
"I know, I talk about it a lot. But I just want to know. You had all that time to be with her. I mean she is 'undead', wandering around for all eternity. Why didn't you just, I don't know, stay with her? I would never have known, I mean I wasn't even born yet." Kagome looked thoughtfully at him. She wouldn't get mad, or hurt, she was passed that. She just didn't understand.
"Kagome" he sighed deeply, looking into her curious chocolate eyes. There was something more he couldn't bring himself to tell her . . . a secret he had kept hidden. A secret he had left five hundred years ago, in the dark forest. "I don't want to talk about this." he stood up and whispered almost to himself, "Someday . . ." speaking a little louder he turned back to Kagome, "Come on, we should go."

"Sess," Inuyasha timidly walked into his older brothers study.
"Yash?"
"I can't live with myself. I want to crawl into a cave and die." Inuyasha sank into the same familiar chair he always sat in when he had to talk to his brother.
"What now?" Sesshomaru stopped reading, closing the book he focused on Inuyasha.
"It's Kagome."
"When isn't it?" Sesshomaru muttered.
"I heard that. Look if you don't want to help me I'll go ask the brat!" Inuyasha spat.
"I apologize. What is the problem?"
"I proposed."
"I would have sworn she'd say yes."
"She did." at Sesshomaru's puzzled look Inuyasha continued. "Everything is great. We have our house, we are moving in next week. We are engaged, life rocks."
"And the problem would be?"
"I haven't told her." Inuyasha let out a deep breath.
"Oh." Sesshomaru was silent for a moment. Inuyasha nervously drummed his claws on the arm of the leather chair, watching Sesshomaru's face. As usual, no expressions donned it, and his thoughts were hidden behind his lips. "Had you ever really planned to?"
"Well," Inuyasha started, "No. I guess not. But I can't not Sesshomaru. It's tearing me apart. I love her with all my heart. If I have to live with myself for another second, I'm going to tweak! But I can't bring myself to admit it. I . . ." he took in a deep breath trying to calm himself, "I can't live without her Sess. What if I lose her?"
"Would you rather live a lie? Or admit all the secrets of your heart? If she loves you, she will understand."
"Fuck Sess!" Inuyasha stood up in anger, "I am me and I don't even understand!" Inuyasha collapsed back onto the chair, his head in his hands.
"I don't mean to be unsupportive, but if you don't tell her . . . I have almost no doubt, that Kikyou will." Inuyasha looked up at Sesshomaru, transparent tears clouding his amber eyes.
"You're right." he choked out, barely able to make a sound. "I have to tell her." Inuyasha stood up and walked toward the elevator.
"What's wrong?" Shippo asked, returning with Chizzabella.
"Fuck off!" he yelled as he walked passed the couple.
"And that was Inuyasha." Shippo informed his date.

"Kagome." Kagome turned around at her name. She was walking around the park, even though it was late, she couldn't get to sleep. She had expected Inuyasha to stay the night with her, or to have him ask her to stay at his house. Instead he dropped her off and said he'd call her tomorrow. It made her very confused about his sudden mood changes.
"Kikyou. Oh, I'm sorry Caryn ."
"Kagome," she drew in a breath, "I'm sorry I tried to use your brother to get back at you and Inuyasha. I'm also sorry about what happened that night." Kagome looked at Kikyou with a quizzical expression. Kikyou had indicated 'that night'. Which night? What was she talking about?
"Umm, which night?"
"Oh, Kami-sama. He didn't tell you." she put her hand to her mouth in shock, "I really can't say Kagome. I'm sorry. I thought he would have told you. You are engaged correct? I heard from your brother, and he didn't tell you?"
"Okay you better tell me cause I'm confused as heck!" Kagome said angrily.
"I can't. It's for him to tell you."
"Nani?! I don't know what your talking about and it's pissing me off!"
"Gomen. Good bye." without another word she walked off into the night.
"KIKYOU!" Kagome called, but to no avail.
Kagome angrily stormed back to her apartment. She dressed in her Hello Kitty Pajamas and crawled angrily into bed. She stared at the ceiling for, what seemed like, hours. A soft knock on her door disturbed her angry thoughts and she walked angrily to the offender knocking on her door at three o'clock in the morning.
"Hello," Kagome said, in a less than happy tone, as she opened the door.
"Hey."
"Inuyasha!" her smile returned to her face and she hugged the man in the door way. Briefly forgetting the conversation that had her so upset anyway. "Come on in Hun." she stepped aside and allowed him to enter.
"Arigatou." he walked in and sat in the living room. Kagome locked the door and followed. "I have something I wanted to tell you." he said, breathing deeply, as though he were about to pass out.
"What is wrong?" Kagome put her hand gently on his shoulder and waited for him to continue.
"Kagome," his heart started beating faster, like a drummer-boy rallying the troops for war, "You are my everything." he stopped to take a ragged breath.
"What is wrong?" Kagome asked again, her tone more urgent and concerned.
"Kami, I love you so much." tears filled his eyes, he pretend not to notice as he fought hard to keep them at bay. Kagome grew more concerned with each delayed word, her heart beginning to race just as fast. "Kagome, umm . . . the year was eighteen sixty four and umm." the tears fell and Kagome wiped at them gently. He held her hands in his, staring into her eyes, searching for anything. "Kikyou . . . I don't know what happened. It just did. I can't explain, and I can't be forgiven. I'm so sorry I hurt you Kagome." not realizing Kagome had no idea what he was talking about, he tried to stand up.
"Inuyasha, what are you talking about? Kikyou? You can't be forgiven? I don't get it." Inuyasha sat back down and tried again.
"You asked me, why I didn't stay with Kikyou. You weren't born, so you'd never know." Kagome nodded, "I'd know Kagome. I loved you, I do love you, and I would never be able to live with myself if I was ever unfaithful to you. That is why I can't live with myself any longer Kagome. Kikyou . . . Me . . . I just can't Kagome, I can't live. I thought I could but it kills me." Kagome concentrated on what he was saying. His speech was broken and he left out a lot of important pieces. The puzzle wasn't fitting the picture on the box. She pieced together the information she had.
Eighteen sixty four, Kikyou and Inuyasha, he can't be forgiven, he wouldn't be able to live with himself for being unfaithful, that is why he can't live with himself any longer.
~Oh Kami~ as Kagome's mind did the work she felt tears brim her eyes too.
"Inuyasha, you didn't." he held his head down, in anger, shame, hatred toward himself. "That is what Kikyou meant by 'that night'. You slept with Kikyou." she didn't think it would hurt her if he had. She wasn't alive, this was true. And if she wasn't the reincarnation of the Priestess, she would never have even met Inuyasha; probably, not even in her own time now. She took in a ragged breath, close to matching Inuyasha's. "I understand Inuyasha." she couldn't say she was mad, maybe slightly hurt, they had mated at the point, and why didn't men get headaches when they were with someone else? "Why?"
"I don't know. I tried to tell you that. I we-" Kagome cut him off before he could finish.
"Wait a second! Hold up," her anger and sadness seemed to be forgotten and was immediately replaced with disgust, and slight laughter. "You are a dog demon. You slept with a dead , made out of clay, technically human, Priestess. That is like Necrophilia. That doesn't gross you out?" Kagome almost felt herself laugh at the thought. When she thought about it, Kikyou was reborn of clay, therefore she wasn't alive any more. Therefore he hadn't cheated on her, he was just screwing objects.
"There is more than you know." he added. Her slight happiness dropped and she waited for the rest of the bombshell. "In the year eighteen sixty four Kikyou, as clay, came to me and asked me to go to hell with her. Blah blah. I've been hearing that shit for like four hundred years I was sick of it. I told her no blah blah, and she said, 'well Kagome cheated on you' I said 'whatever' and she said, 'go back in time and I'll show you. It was with the Wolf'. I did as she said, only somehow I ended up in the time before she even died the first time. There I told her we were in the wrong time and she told me we weren't and asked me to check in the hut. I did and she was in there, alive. I decided to talk to her, I don't know why, I was bored. Kikyou, alive, thought it was me and kissed me. I didn't want her to think I hated her or something, because that would screw up the space time continuum even more. Anyway, so I went along with her fun until it went to far, and she was like trying to go at it. Now as you know, back in those times it was very, unacceptable to have relations unless you were going to mate or were married. At least, in my beliefs. I tried to stop it, but I failed." he put his head down, once again in shame, "I failed you Kagome." "I asked Kikyou why she did that. She knew what would happen. She said, because she wanted to know how lucky you were, and what you had." Kagome allowed all of this new information to sink in.
It took a minute but she finally calmed herself and took every aspect into account. There were many things she didn't understand; she would ask questions, but wanted to let Inuyasha know she wasn't going to let him kill himself, since that was the crazy talk he was speaking of.
"Inuyasha, I know you think you can't live with yourself now -"
"I can't! I must die for what I have done!"
"Shut up! Inuyasha, I won't let you die. I love you too much. I do have a few questions though." he nodded and she asked. "Why did you wait so long to tell me?"
"I couldn't bring myself to. I was so afraid of loosing you. Even now, I am scared to death you will throw that ring at me and force me out of your apartment."
"I'm not going to do that." she rolled her eyes, but he didn't notice. "My next question is a little more difficult. You say that Kikyou made you go back in time before you even knew me technically right." he nodded, "So wouldn't she have thought that you and her had been together, and she would have acted different around you, therefore making the you of now, think something had happened to you with her? Wow, this is confusing."
"I get what you are saying . . . The Inuyasha of five hundred years ago would have no clue that in five hundred years he would be engaged to the most beautiful woman in the world," throwing in a few compliments never hurt anyone, "and would sleep with Kikyou in four hundred years. So when Kikyou talked about it he would be as confused as heck. So theoretically shouldn't the me of before the night of eighteen sixty four, been confused as heck? But I wasn't cause I knew I was waiting for you chillin' and she brought me back to make me cheat on you."
"Exactly. Why wouldn't you all ready think something was weird?"
"I have no idea. That is a really good question." Inuyasha thought inside his head, trying to solve the enigma.
"I wish I had never fallen into that stupid well." Inuyasha looked hurt for a second, and Kagome felt hurt as well as she thought about it. "Then I wouldn't have met you, and you would probably be in hell with Kikyou, and I'd be alone without you." Kagome weighed the options, "Oh, but it caused so many problems." Kagome sighed deeply. "Inuyasha, I can't say I'm mad at you. I'm not. I can't say I'm not sad, cause it does hurt. But I forgive you. And if you even think about harming one hair on that gorgeous head of yours, I'll kill ya." she smiled at him, her reassuring smile wasn't nearly as helpful as she had planned.
"But, I disrespected my mate. I cheated on my mate. That IS punishable by death."
"Not in my world sweetie." an unwanted yawn escaped Kagome's lips, glancing at the clock she saw it flash 5:01. "Come on, we'll talk more in the morning. Lets go to bed." she stood up and held out her hand. He took it and followed her to her bedroom.
She curled up next to him, warm and cozy under the blankets. He had calmed down quite a bit, but couldn't believe she wasn't castrating him. He really didn't put enough faith in . . . anyone. "Kagome?" a small sound told him she was listening. "I love you."
"I know."

"URRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG!!!" a muffled scream escaped the elder woman's mouth as she screamed into the crimson pillow. "Why doesn't anything I plan work? They are suppose to break up now. She is suppose to leave him! He is suppose to be mine." soft tears ran down the girls face as she whispered aloud in her bedroom.
"Are you okay? I thought I heard you crying." Souta walked into the room and placed a hand on his girlfriends shoulder.
"Oh, hai, I'm fine dear. I think I stubbed my toe." the girl smiled as she lied to the boy. He walked back into the bathroom and finished brushing his teeth. She rested her head on the pillow and cried herself to sleep.
All right . . . it's 3:43 in the afternoon and I'm wicked tired . . . no fair *tear* However, at least I have no homework. Though I do have an appointment with my Counselor in like fifteen minutes. Anger! Anyway, this chapter is kind of short, and I was going to make Kag and Inu mad at each other for a while, but I really can't. I also just added in this twist because it has a lot to do with something that is coming up. I hope this story doesn't get any more confusing! AHH! Let me know what you think or I will stop writing!!!! Bwhahahaha! ^-^

Bwhahahaha! ^-^
