Chapter 3 - Realizations

Kaede returned to the hut to find Inuyasha sitting in his trademark dog position.

"I see your back is feeling better."

"Feh. I've been injured worse." The defiant look vanished from his face and was replaced by a look of confusion. "What was she talking about? I didn't do anything! What is there for me to understand?"

"Does ye not remember?" Kaede's eyebrow rose as she questioned his statement.

"No, I don't remember, stupid. I was in the woods thinking, when someone . . . oh." A wave of understanding and sadness washed over Inuyasha.

"Who came to ye in the woods?" When Kaede looked at Inuyasha's slumped shoulders, she realized who had come to see Inuyasha. "Onee-chan."

"Kagome! Are you ready to go? Your friends are here!"

"Coming Mom!" Yuka, Eri and Ayumi were already at the shrine waiting to being their bike ride. Grabbing a small backpack filled with water and food, Kagome ran to the front of her house where her friends stood with their bikes.

"Great to see you feeling better, Kagome!"

"Thanks! Are you guys ready?" Her friends nodded their heads and they all sped off down the road.

"Oh yeah. Kagome? We're picking up another person." Yuka turned into a driveway and waved to the person who stood at the front door.

'Oh no.' Kagome thought, 'I don't need this today.'

"Sango, when will Kagome come back?"

"I don't know Shippou-chan. Miroku, do you have any ideas?" Sango turned just in time to see the lecherous monk moving his hand to her backside. *crack* Sango's boomerang connected with Miroku's thick skull and a large lump formed on the dazed monk's forehead. "Hentai." When Miroku came to, Shippou bounced onto his shoulder.

"When are we going to get back? When is Kagome coming back? Why are you so mean to Sango? Why aren't you nicer? Why do you ask every girl you meet to bare your child? Why is Inuyasha so mean to me and Kagome? Why humph phowt tohi." Miroku kept his hand firmly on Shippou's mouth as the young kitsune attempted to escape.

"Too many questions!" Miroku yelled. Sango pried the small child from Miroku's grasp and gave Shippou and look that he knew meant to keep quiet. He nodded his head and pouted when she placed him down by Kirara.

"Actually Miroku, I wouldn't mind hearing the answer to some of the those questions." Miroku grew very nervous and fell backward anime style when he saw the mischievous look in Sango's eyes.

When Kaede realized that Kikyo had been the one to visit Inuyasha, she decided to go into the forest and see if Kikyo would come to her.

"Onee-chan, please come to me. I need to speak with ye. Onee-chan." After wandering around for what seemed like hours, Kaede found herself in the clearing of the bone-eaters well. Resting against the wooden ledge of the well, Kaede watched as the sun faded from view. With the last rays shimmering over the forest, Kaede prepared to return to the village.

"Kaede." Her name sounded hollow against the night air.
