Chapter 7 : Secrets Spilled
"And where have you been, old hag?" Inuyasha asked accusingly when Kaede stepped into the hut long after the sun had set and Inuyasha had returned. Inuyasha and Miroku had spent the past hour debating where she could have gone off too, ignoring Sango's insistence that Kaede deserved respect and didn't have to answer to them. When Inuyasha had told her that Kaede didn't deserve any respect since she was "just an old, baka, miko", Sango had left the hut in a huff muttering something about an "untrained dog".
"That, Inuyasha, is none of your business," Kaede answered. "Would one of ye mind telling me where Sango has gotten off too?" Miroku told her that she had left the hut a little under an hour ago. Kaede nodded and turned to leave.
"Hey! You never answered my question!" Inuyasha yelled after her. Kaede just shook her head and continued walking ignoring Inuyasha's yells of protests. She soon found Sango resting against the trunk of a large, sturdy tree. She was deep in thought and didn't notice Kaede's approach.
"Sango, are ye alright?" Sango jumped slightly at the sound of Kaede's voice. "I'm sorry. Did I startle ye?"
"It's alright Kaede. It's nice to see you." Sango smiled at the kind older woman in front of her and began to stand up. "How have you been?" Kaede's tired face turned to a frown at this last question.
"I have been better. While ye were gone, I was able to understand why Kagome has returned home," she stated. Sango snapped her head towards Kaede. "It seems child, that my sister visited Inuyasha. She was yet again trying to take him to hell with her. During this conversation, Kagome appeared and after seeing Inuyasha with Kikyou, she returned to her time." Kaede finished with a sigh. Sango stared at Kaede and wondered why she hadn't thought about that scenario before. "There is more though. Kagome says that she will not return unless Inuyasha understands why she left in the first place." Sango nodded.
"That makes sense. But do you think Inuyasha will be able to grasp the fact that it was because of Kikyou? He always is so blind when it comes to her," Sango finished frustration growing as she realized how long it might be before Kagome came back to them. 'All because of Inuyasha's thick- headedness too.'
"Believe it or not, Inuyasha might come to terms with Kagome's disappearance sooner than ye may think. He was able to understand why she left earlier today, so he may be able to retrieve her. As long as he watches his mouth, that is." Sango faintly smiled. "He may not understand his feelings for Kagome, and she hers for him, but we do. They care for each other deeply. Although we may wish to help them realize this, they must do it themselves."
"I know Kaede, but Kikyou always appears whenever it seems that things are going so well. Like this last time. I'm sorry. I realize that Kikyou is your sister, but-" Kaede put her hand up to interrupt Sango.
"My child, Kikyou was my sister, but this clay and dirt revival is not the sister I once new. Her soul is one of evil for the most part. But she may surprise us yet."
"What do you mean, Kaede?"
"I went to find my sister today after Inuyasha realized who he had been talking to when Kagome found him in the forest," Kaede began.
"You mean he forgot who he was talking to!?" Sango said in a raised voice. Kaede opened her mouth to speak again and Sango quickly quieted down.
"Yes, it seemed that he had blocked out the memory when he realized that Kagome was gone. But when I spoke to Kikyou, she mentioned that maybe she had never truly loved Inuyasha and that she would not harm Inuyasha or Kagome. I do not know what is running through my sister's mind; she would not tell me. But I do know that it seems that she will be leaving those two alone to figure out their feelings for one another." Sango smiled as Kaede finished telling her about the conversation between the two sisters.
"I see. I hope that now Inuyasha will be able to see that Kagome loves him. Who knows? Maybe it will be a happy ending."
"One can only hope." Kaede and Sango turned and walked back to the hut, unaware that not only one, but two people had been listening in to their conversation.
