As Sango and Akira sat around the fire to relax, InuYasha and Miroku took their turn in the hot spring. Miroku sat in silence enjoying his soak while InuYasha began to wonder about Akira and how could she not know she was a half demon. Finally his curiosity got the best of him and he turned to Miroku for another opinion.
“Say Miroku, do you think someone could be a half demon and not know it?” InuYasha asked.
“What do you mean InuYasha?” Miroku asked.
“I think Akira is a half demon. Her form changed last night. But she doesn't know or either doesn't understand the concept of a half demon. From the way she was acting I think last night is the first time she has ever been without her powers.” InuYasha explained.
“It is possible that it could have been a secret kept from her. There are spells and things that can keep a half demon from turning on a new moon.” Miroku replied. “Or so I have heard.”
The conversation was put on hold until the men had finished their soak. Once they returned to the campfire it was again discussed among the group to help Akira understand. First she was asked many different questions starting with Miroku.
“Do you remember your mother?” he asked.
“Vaguely,” Akira replied. “I was very young when she died.”
“And your father is the one who raised you?”
“Yes, he and my older sister.”
“Was their anything special that you had to do or wear once a month?” Miroku probed further.
“Not that I can recall.” Akira replied. “I never really left the castle. I had no need to.”
“Was there ever a barrier around the castle?” Miroku asked.
“A barrier?” Akira looked surprised. “Not that I remember.”
“There must have been something that kept you from transforming back home. Other wise you would have known you are a hanyou.” Miroku began to ponder in silence.
“I always knew I was different and not as powerful as my sister. But I had no idea why…my father always said it was because she was older than me.” Akira added.
“Wait a minute Miroku,” Sango had an idea. “Aren't you a princess?”
“Yes.” Akira answered.
“Then you would usually wear a crown right?”
“I did but I left that behind when I came here.” Akira replied.
“That's it!” Miroku said. “I bet there was something special about your crown. Whether it was a spell or held some magical trinket, I'll bet that was what kept you from transforming on a new moon.”
“What so ever the case,” InuYasha announced, “You will have to keep yourself hidden when transformed now. When your powers are gone you are extremely vulnerable against enemies.”
