[ P - Pre-Teen ]
He had spent his entire life listening to the old legends of his family’s shrine. When he grew older, he taught them to his own daughter even though most of them he didn’t really believe himself. By the time his granddaughter was born retelling the old legends had become a way of life.

When Kagome began traveling to the feudal era through the old well, missing days of school at a time, he slipped easily into the role of excuse maker. After all, telling stories had become second nature to him and he found the lies slipped easily off his tongue.

One day after Kagome had failed to return home in a month, his daughter looked at him with the question that had been going through all their minds. Bending over the breakfast dishes she voiced her concern.

“Father, do you think Kagome is safe? I know Inuyasha will protect her, but it has been such a long time and I do worry about her.”

He looked up from his newspaper where he was searching for new diseases for his next explanation of Kagome’s absence.

“I’m sure she’s fine dear. Fighting demons can be a time-consuming job. She’ll be back before you know it with that half demon in tow looking for more supplies and we won’t have a moment’s peace.”

Even as he heard the words, he knew in his heart that he didn’t believe them. But what was one little white lie on a string of so many.
