“I command you not to fight Inuyasha,” Sesshoumaru ordered her as they lay in the grass, her hair fanned out to dry.
“As you wish my lordship.” she answered. So much for that idea.
“And I command you to stop dying your hair.”
“Hai,” she nodded in agreement.
“I am calling you back from exile,” he added. “You may go back when ever you wish.”
“Is that so you know where I am at?” she asked politely.
“No.” Sesshoumaru paused for a moment, squinting his eyes together a little. “I wish to set you free, on the condition that you come to me every winter to educate Rin.”
“Agreed.” Akanesuji picked at the grass and watched a little bug scamper through it. “I suppose that I do not have to call you lord and master any more?” Sesshoumaru nodded. “And the wedding is off?” she asked.
Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes. “I am not ready to settle down.”
“I know.” Akanesuji said gently. “I'm not ready to either.”
“You're not?” Sesshoumaru was quite surprised at this honest revelation. For years it seemed that was all she wanted.
“I wanted it once, because I was told to want it. Mama convinced me it was the only way to be with you. When you sent me away after your father's death, I was so broken hearted, but in time my heart mended and I discovered other things I wanted.”
“Like what?” he asked, quite curious.
“I wanted revenge. I wanted pity. Then I wanted someone to love me. After that I thought I wanted children, but as time went on, I wanted respect and honor. I wanted control over myself back. Exile became very good for me. I was away from mother and for the first time since we were little, I could make decisions on my own.” Akanesuji sat up and tucked her hair behind an ear. “I studied with the philosophers, I read everything I could find. I learned from every visitor we had. Eventually, they stopped watching me tightly at the castle and I would slip off.”
“What did you do then?”
“You wont believe this, but I started fishing again. And flying kites, like we did when we were little.” She watched him grin ever so slightly. “I started riding horses instead of being carried in a liter. I spent time in the villages, helping with the rice crops. I hunted frogs and gave them to the children. I trained in martial arts.”
“It sounds like you had a good time.” he said, starting to pick at the grass too.
“I did, and somewhere in all that, I found my lost self.” Akanesuji rolled toward him until she was above him so that she could look him in the eyes. “You are still lost Sesshoumaru.”
Sesshoumaru's eye twitched a little and his face grew still like a porcelain doll's. She knew she had touched a raw nerve, but it was something that had to be said. “I know why you roam the land. You look for something you have lost. Someday, I know you will find it, and when you do, you will be the most powerful demon the world has ever seen.”
He closed his eyes because he just could not look at her. She had hit the nail on the head. It was painful. “Why did you come here?” he said angrily to change the subject.
“I never lied to you. I want the Tetsiega.”
“You didn't want me? You wanted my sword?”
“Don't worry Sesshoumaru, I will always want you, but right now I want that sword.” Akanesuji swung her leg over him so that she straddled him. She kissed him on his chest and looked back into his eyes to reassure him.
“Why?” he asked, not understanding her reasoning.
“World domination of course.” Akanesuji planted a big kiss on his lips then sat up and giggled. Oh how she looked so serious and so alive when she said it. Sesshoumaru couldn't quite believe her. He could not imagine her as the most powerful demon lord of all. She was not as strong as he was and no where near as strong as his father. There had to be some kind of angle and he was curious to know what it was.
The other issue was that he wanted world domination too, and there could not be two demon lords over all. Maybe he should not have set her free so soon.
“You? Control the lands and the sky?” Sesshoumaru snorted a laugh. “You are really funny Smart Ass.”
“No no.” she said in all seriousness, wagging a finger. “You just watch. I will unite our lands into one great kingdom so that we can dominate the seas.” Her eyes glittered with passion, her determination great.
“You're serious.” he stated.
“Very serious. I will finish your father's work.”
Sesshoumaru frowned. “Akanesuji, you are as insane as he was.”
The joyous lady smiled and started to tickle his sides until till he started to wrestle her back. “Kiss me now Sesshoumaru. It will take several centuries to accomplish it all and we have plenty of time.”
He had an inner sigh of relief. Akanesuji would not be a threat for a long while. He felt confident in this and trusted her words. Kissing her deeply, he admired her passion. It burned nearly as brightly as his own.
Rin was so glad to see them both that she hopped around ecstatically. “Jaken, they're back! They're back! The horsey lady is back!” She wrapped her arms around Akanesuji and squeezed as hard as she could, her cheeks rubbing on the eel skin suit. It was lumpy and rough like sandpaper, but it did not matter to her.
When she finally let go, Akanesuji knelt to talk to her at her eye level and this little consideration made Rin feel good. Sesshoumaru never did that, he always talked to her from way up high. He was so incredibly tall. “Rin sweetheart. I am going to go home for a while, but I promise to see you in the winter.” the female demon said. “I will bring you a surprise, but only if you are a very good girl for Sesshoumaru-sama.”
Rin looked at her suspiciously. “I am always good for Sesshoumaru-sama.”
“But not always for Jaken, right?” Akanesuji cracked a big large smile, as did the little girl.
“I like your hair better white. It looks like Sesshoumaru-sama's.” she said, petting the hair as it fell around her shoulders.
“Yes, Rin. I am really his fourth cousin on his mother's side. Do you know what that means?”
“That means you are not a horsey lady.” Rin crossed her arms over her chest. “I thought so.”
Akanesuji gave her a big hug and whispered in her ear, “You are so much smarter than they are.” The two girls snickered while Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes. He could hear her perfectly fine. Jaken was still making hacking noises from the shock of Akanesuji's announcement. “You can call me Akanesuji. Now remember, I will come when the snow starts to fall. I want you to have my quilt to keep you warm until I get there.”
Rin was happy to receive the quilt. She traced the sewn squares with a finger while Sesshoumaru and Akanesuji spoke softly in the corner so that she could not hear. “I love you Fluffy,” the demon whispered, standing straight and tall, her hands by her side. They would not embrace good bye.
“Hai,” Sesshoumaru answered. He would not tell her he loved her in return and though it would have been nice, Akanesuji did not expect it or need it. She did suspect it though. He never let anyone close to him, and she had gotten closer than any other but Rin. He nodded toward the cave opening, ushering her to go.
