The girls easily found Shippo and Rin. The two had been playing hide-and-go-seek and the little kitsune had found the girl and they were running down the hallways screaming. They did not stop when the two girls spotted them, but continued to run like mad, Rin in front, the fox behind. When they all caught up with each other, the two little children were jumping up and down on Akanesuji's bed. It didn't bounce a lot, but it was still a lot of fun. Everyone laughed.

“I wish you could stay Shippo,” Rin said after the girls had convinced him it was time to go. “Maybe I could ask Sesshoumaru-sama if you could stay for dinner.”

“I would be honored if you ladies would stay for dinner,” came Sesshoumaru's dark silky voice from up the hallway. When he entered the room he was disappointed to find Rin and Shippo had messed up Akanesuji's bed and the two women stand there unsure of themselves and what to do. “Rin, explain to me why you are all in here?”

Rin knew she was in trouble now. “We were playing chase Sesshoumaru-sama and this was the safest place I knew to go.”

Sesshoumaru gave a frown, and then everyone else understood that Rin was in trouble too. “It's my fault Sesshoumaru-sama,” the kitsune said trying to take some of the blame off his new friend.

“No,” Sesshoumaru said, turning from the room. “Rin, straighten the room and leave. Take our guests to the women's wing and make them comfortable. Have Jaken prepare a dinner.”

Rin bowed very low and took a deep breath of relief. “Hai Sesshoumaru-sama.” She would not get a spanking today.

“Give the women clothes from Akanesuji's mother's trunks. She will not be needing them.”

Again the little girl bowed low. When the lord of the place had left down the halls, Rin clapped her hands and squealed. “We get to play dress up! Oh thank you, thank you Sesshoumaru-sama!” The two ladies were confused.

Rin told Shippo to find the men and bring them back to the first place they had been playing. It was the women's wing and Jaken had given her the keys to unlock it several days ago. During the days it was not such a cold place and Rin would rifle though all the things left by the courtiers over the winter. She played with combs and kimonos, make up and jewelry. She messed up the strings on one of the looms and had damaged someone's left over embroidery trying to make more flowers on it. If Sesshoumaru didn't mind her messing up someone's left over things, then she didn't mind either.

Jaken lit fires in all of the hearths, making the floor a lot comfortable. Hot water was started in a large copper tank so that everyone could bath from buckets in the small indoor wash rooms. There were at least fifteen separate rooms, Kagome and Sango quit counting when the realized that everyone could have their own private bed tonight. It was better than being out camping in the dark. Heck, it was better than being in a hut.

“I don't know why we are still here,” Inuyasha grumbled. He didn't want to eat dinner with his brother any more than he wanted to eat dinner with an oni from hell. “If we had left earlier we could have been half way home by now.”

“Yeah, and sleeping in the cold.” Miroku said, pouring hot water over his shoulder onto his naked back. The two men were using the large bathing room meant for the whole wing. The water dripped onto a tiled floor and ran to a drain that led outside. It was a good natural system, but a cold one. The winter air had blown in before they stuffed it closed with a towel. Inuyasha threw more water on some hot coals and more steam filled the room. Both of the men wiggled their toes at the hearth.

“I suppose. I guess this set up is better than Kaede's.”

“Can you imagine it Inuyasha?” the monk said. “This whole wing filled with beautiful women? Oh, it brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.”

“Feh.” he said, smacking the monk with a towel over the head. “All you think about is women.”

“Yeah,” Miroku said, grinning idly. “What is wrong with that.”

“Feh.”

“Did you know she was Sesshoumaru's wife?” the human asked the hanyou, looking pretty serious all of a sudden.

“Nah. And I wouldn't have suspected it either. She is so...nice....you know?”

“Yeah. She isn't a thing like him.”

“Do you believes what says about her?” Miroku asked. “That she is some kind of female shinobi?”

“She's an inuyoukai. She could be anything she wants to be.”

“But she was so nice.”

“Um. Do you have something I need to know Miroku?”

The monk gave a surprised look at the gentle accusation. “No. No. No way,” he stumbled. “I sure wanted to...but no. She wasn't interested. I mean...gosh...look at who her husband is. No wonder she turned me down!”

“Why have a human when you can have a full blooded lord of the west, huh?”

The two stared at the coals for a moment, each thinking.

“She was so nice.” Miroku said.

“Yeah.”

“We shouldn't help him find her,” he added.

“Yeah.”

“He must have been bad to her for her to run away,” the monk concluded.

“Yeah.”

“He does seem to love her though.”

“Yeah.”

The two continued to stare at the coals, each letting their mind wander to different things.

Rin pulled the girls into one of the larger rooms. “This is where the great inuyoukai women live when they visit here in the summer for court,” the little girl explained. “This room belongs to Sesshoumaru's aunt.”

“How many family members does Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru have left?” Kagome asked, only now realized that the Inu clan was actually quite big.

“There are lots of inu. Inu No Taisho had several brothers and sisters, and uncles and aunts. There are lots of cousins and lesser nobles who are family.” Rin opened the second door from that room to yet another room. “This is Akanesuji's mother's room. You can have anything you want out of here.”

“Are you sure she wont mind?”

“Oh no,” Rin said with a smile. “Mommy is going to kill her soon. She won't need any of this stuff.” She seemed so proud of her adoptive mother. The two girls both breathed in quickly with shock. First, Rin had called Akanesuji “mommy” and secondly, she handled the execution of a person with such callused ease.

“Why would your...mommy...want to kill... her mother?” Sango asked the little girl. Rin shrugged her shoulders saying “She's evil.”

Sango looked to Kagome, who looked back to Sango. What a sick little family Rin had. Sesshoumaru was a death dealing killing machine, his mother an accomplished demon slayer and their unborn son would be destined to be the same. Understanding the look Kagome was giving Sango, she did give her some assurances. “Akanesuji was very nice when she met us in the village.”

“You've seen my mommy?” Rin asked, happy to hear that Akanesuji had been seen.

“Yes. She was beautiful Rin, and very nice.”

“She is very nice. She gave me a pony, and some frogs, and a toad whistle and made me a jacket and and now she's making me a baby brother.” Rin's sweet face broke both of the girl's hearts. Akanesuji must be the total opposite of Sesshoumaru, a sweet, loving and caring soul.

“We will try to find your mommy,” Kagome said. Sango was surprised when the little girl flung her arms around them with big hugs. Quickly Rin opened all of the trunks in the room, pulling out gorgeous kimonos and furisodes. Only demon hands could have done the embroidery on them. They came in all colors and patterns. The two were astounded at the array of choices. Rin brought a big box from another room filled with combs and hair accessories. From the bottom of a trunk she produced make ups and perfumes.

“I'm sure glad we got the bath first,” Sango said to Kagome. “It's gonna take a while to put this stuff on.”

“Oh it will be so much fun!” Rin clapped, looking forward to playing dress up with two live dolls.
