Akanesuji sat on the back of her large roan horse, while Rin sat on her little pony. The two meandered through the fields of the estate, the elder telling the little tanuki chamberlain a list of things to be written down along the way. The road needed leveling, the north wall a replacement tower, the roof of the grainery repaired. She wanted these things done over the winter before Sesshoumaru ran off to keep from going insane in the spring.

She also wanted them done before she started getting much bigger and would not care as much.

She and Sesshoumaru had been together just over two years now. Half of that time had been spent fighting, but the other half had been pleasant enough. Eventful too. She had gotten pregnant, gotten married, gone to Hell and back, got armor made from Inu No Taisho's claws. Things weren't off schedule too bad she thought as she took a tally of her situation. She still had a good chance at world domination.

One thing that had bothered her though was Hizumeha. He had hardly written her and when he did, it was to say that things were going really well. Kuza was with foal and his second wife too. She was proud of him. His herd was taking off like wild fire. She wondered if he had stopped asking her to come help because he knew she was with child. It would be just like him to do that.

This morning she had written him an invitation to come visit her. That would certainly help settle that question in her mind. She could just ask him to his face, the horse unable to lie to her when she looked him in the eyes. She sent that missive along with a much more important one. She wanted InuYasha and his merry band to come spend a week with them. She wanted to get to know them better.

Like a sly fox, she had sent the invitation once Jaken and Sesshoumaru had left on their weekly jaunt. Her husband couldn't protest the invitations if he wasn't around.

Rin kicked her pony into a little trot to catch up, singing a silly song about Jaken. Akanesuji smiled to herself. Rin was really taking to music and she was glad to teach her. She was working with Rin at Rin's own pace, so unlike when she learned. For the little girl, it was still fun.

Akane laid her left hand over her belly. Manatsu had been busy since yesterday in Hell. All he did was kick, kick and kick. She and Sesshoumaru had played in the woods then come home, she got a good bath and had Rin fix her own meal. The smell of food was playing tricks on her stomach and she wouldn't dare boil and egg or fry up some tofu for kitsune udon. Sleep didn't come very easy either. Her mind was settled and calm from seeing Inu No Taisho again, but Manatsu pushed on her over and over.

She was kind of relieved when Jaken said that her husband was going out for the day. His little declarations before everyone under the sun had the whole place in an uproar and now she had to patch it all up. Part of her hated him for his little public fit. Now everyone looked to her as first wife to make it all better. The other part was relived. She could manage the day to day runnings of the estate much better than he could and gain the trust and admiration of his subjects. The Western Lands would become one more stepping stone, one more piece of the puzzle to the bigger prize.

The tanuki, a small raccoon-dog named Sakan, started asking her about bringing in more weavers come the spring, and she saw no reason not to. It was when the conversation came to a halt that she noticed smoke coming from the courtyard. “Sakan-sama, who has yet to leave the grounds? I thought I dismissed near everyone?”

“Lady Akanesuji, I am the only one left here except for Totosai. It is likely him setting up a fire,” he said, rubbing his head and thinking. “I asked a cook to stay this year for Rin and a cleaning woman.”

“That little toad woman who has a crush on Jaken?”

“The very same.”

“Good man,” she said. “It is about time we got him saddled up with someone.” She twisted up her lips to one side thinking. “Let me guess who the other lady is....the little tanuki with big breasts.” Sakan blushed hard and Akanesuji smiled. “It will be good to have some company this winter,” she said to no one in particular. She called Rin to follow her back, but Rin being the adventurous girl she was, dressed in her now too little quilted coat, kicked her pony on so that she would be the first to the courtyard.

With a good firm kick, the dog demon urged her mount to follow. The horse took a slow canter, refusing to over take the galloping pony and that was fine with her. It didn't matter if Rin got there first or not, she was a good girl and would put her pony away like she was supposed to. Akanesuji didn't have to tell her twice.

Upon going through the first gate, Akanesuji heard a blood curdling scream. It was Rin's high pitched voice echoing through the parapets. She kicked the horse on with seriousness now, standing high in the saddle in an effort to see before her.

A black mass of tentacles held Rin up against the inner courtyard wall and the inuyoukai jumped off her mount pissed that she had not brought a single weapon with her. With her blood stripes attack she threw yard after yard of binding at the creature, who only slipped through it with ease. His morphing body squeezing in and out of the bindings like an octopus though a pipe. She cursed that she could not spray a stream of poison without hitting Rin and stood shocked, trying to figure out what to do.

She had no weapons. Her abilities ineffectual. The only thing she could do was run for it and bite at it, hoping her poisons would work against it. She sprinted for the nearest waving arm, but was hit and thrown back against the far wall.

“Weak youkai,” the hideous thing said. “Is that all you have?”

“Who are you and what do you want?” she yelled, picking herself up off the divot her body made. She twisted her neck and shoulders, hearing the joints pop.

“Hasn't your little hubbie told you about me? We are great friends.”

“I doubt Sesshoumaru would call you friend.” Akanesuji started to circle it, noticing the distance between herself and the main body of the creature which was now forming into a sickly human shape with long hair.

“I'm hurt. Surely you know of me, the great Naraku.”

“Never heard of you before.”

Naraku only laughed. It didn't matter if she knew about him or not. In a few minutes, she would be him and he would be her. Sesshoumaru was a fool for never warning her about him. He tightened his grip around Rin's waist and neck, making her scream out again.

“I want to make a deal with you, wife of Sesshoumaru. Your body for hers.”

Akanesuji did not want to make a deal. She ran and jumped for the center of him, letting her eyes go red and her teeth expand out to bite at his face and throat, poison dripping quickly like a small cup had spilled.

Naraku let her come, folding her into an embrace of arms, dropping Rin into a forgotten pile. The dog demon was so dumb. She had no idea what his powers were and what he was capable of. That would be her undoing.

She felt his tentacles cover and lock around her arms and legs, then around her neck, stablizing her face. The sky started to disappear as the warm, oily blackness started covering her eyes. She could smell a green vile poison in the air around her and she felt she had only one course of action.

She allowed her human form to ease, her dog form growing, expanding out. If his goal was to suffocate her, he would have a huge amount of dog to cover. Reaching her two story height, she was able to breathe again, the black being pulled from her eyes as the vile mass focused on keeping her neck and front paws held tight.

Rin screamed again and started crawling away, signal for Akanesuji to open her mouth and squirt poison out across the blackness. It had a bad reaction with the green poison he gave off and a near explosive energy rippled though the air, knocking them both around but not separating them. Naruku would not let go.

She kicked with her back legs, falling onto her side as the black mass started to cover her nostrils. Her nails scraped at the monster, pulling him off only for him to spring back like elastic.

Naraku edged his way closer and closer to her face in an effort to cover her nose and mouth. If he could do that she would pass out and he could absorb her more easily. He could already feel the pull into him of the jewel shards embedded in her front legs. They were strengthening him while pulling her flesh open to bleed, her muscles over them ripping. It would only be a few more moments before he had her.

Akanesuji opened her mouth and let him come in, only to bite down hard and cut Naraku deeply. His flesh gave way with shrieking and hissing. The poison burned her mouth and the caustic mixture started eating at her tongue. With her back legs she started pushing forward, crashing him and her both into a wall. She was desperate to smack him unconscious.

Sesshoumaru heard the wall crash down as he approached down the road. It was a tremendous boom and large four foot by four foot cut blocks were thrown up to twenty feet away. Knowing something was not right, he rushed forward, sniffing.

Immediately he knew who it was.

It was the same villain who tried to capture Rin once before, but this time it was Akanesuji who was wrapped up in his black tar. He had covered her eyes, part of her mouth and nose, wrapped himself around her neck and had her front legs bound heavily. Only her back end was free and it was that back end that had charged them into the wall.

Akane couldn't see that Sesshoumaru had arrived to help. She arched her back and threw herself upwards to crash her head and Naraku into the wall again. They came down with a hard crash, the inuyoukai seeing stars from it.

Naraku was hurting bad, but he would not give up. Part of him was suffering large puncture wounds from her bite, while other parts of him had large body bruises. Pulling himself from around one front leg to pay more attention to her face, he saw Sesshoumaru out of the corner of his eye.

“You're home early,” he spat, thrusting a tentacle into her ear and puncturing her eardrum. Blood and drum liquid gushed out and she thrashed again, smacking them both against the wall again. Sesshoumaru withdrew his sword and ran straight for him. A long distance attack would only hurt Akanesuji too. He would have to cut Naraku away from her like a cancer.

The monster knew what was coming, and he decided he had enough. He had pulled a total of three jewel shards from out of her body and that was going to be a good enough victory for today. In his mind he swore he would return for the rest. She was indeed a powerful youkai, just not like he had imagined. She was not like InuYasha or Sesshoumaru who stayed in a human form and used tools. She was primitive, only using her true form and the talents the Kami had given her. Eventually, he would catch her unawares and take her by suprise when she was small.

He faded into a poisonous mist, making Akanesuji choke and gag, the scent to close to her hypersensitive nose. She let loose not only a huge spray of poison, but acidic vomit as well. They both burned at the chemical reactions. He escaped to fight another day. She dropped to the ground in pain. She too would fight another day.

Sesshoumaru never got a slash, a stab or a cut. The chemical fog disappeared, leaving a path of destruction. Akanesuji laid amongst large boulders, her mouth a mess and her mind uncouncious.

If there had been a way to pursue Naraku, Sesshoumaru would have taken it. His anger was intense, burning his eyes to bright red. He was so ready to take his three story height and fight the slime ball, even if he only had three legs in that form and would be somewhat unsteady. He swung his sword from one place to the next, looking for a second attack that never came.

A long minute ticked by. Rin sat froze behind a stone and Akanesuji laid with quiet breaths. Sesshoumaru cursed that he had left them both just to kill some small snake demon for Hizumeha. Had he been at home with her, this never would have happened.

Putting his sword back in it's sheath and keeling to his love, he tried to wake her. She opened a single large red and pink eye, then closed it again. He could hear her heartbeat and that of Manatsu's. He would let her rest. Next he found Rin and picked her up, holding her tight to his chest and settling down to sit with his back up against Akanesuji's chest. They would stay there until the large dog moved on her own.

Night fell, and the inuyoukai opened her eyes. Her mouth stung but was tolerable if she held still. Only her eye showed that she was awake. “Are you alright?” Sesshomaru asked, running his hand into the deep fur of her neck and feeling it's softness marred by chemical burns and a tar like stickiness.

The dog demon shook her head slowly “no.”

“What is wrong?”

“I..” Whimper. Whine. It hurt too much.

“Let me put Rin to bed and I shall return,” he said, pulling his little daughter up to hold him around his neck half asleep. Half way up the stairs to the main hall, he turned himself around and set her to lay on his Mokomoko-sama. He would not let her out of his sight tonight. Akanesuji turned herself so that her chin rested on the ground so she could see what was going on. Blood ran down out of her ear that had pooled there, spilling in a big puddle on the floor.

“I see,” he said to her, pulling Rin farther away from the puddle. The little girl was so scared she would not talk. She only pulled his furry mantle around her tighter and started to cry softly. “Quiet now Rin. You do mommy no good by your tears.” The little girl buried her face deeper in the fluff and tried to quiet herself.

The male inuyoukai went into the palace and returned with sheets and cloths. “This would be much easier if you would change back to human size.”

Akanesuji eyes got really big like she was trying to say something. Her head shook “no” just enough to get the message across. What Sesshoumaru didn't understand was that she had already tried and Manatsu refused to go back to a little size. She couldn't go back to human size until he did so first. The laws of physics were not in her favor today. A puppy the size of a coffee table would not fit in a human female's womb.

The pregnant inuyoukai was stuck, probably until the day he was born.
