Kagome and Sango let out a collective gasp while Miroku closed his eyes and covered his face with his hand. Everyone was blushing for Inuyasha even though the hanyou certainly didn't need the help. His own face was about the same color as his fire rat garb. He hadn't thought about his drunken words since the night he had spoken them, choosing to forget them conveniently.
But he sure was remembering them now.
There was some sort of truth in it. Being drunk had lowered his inhibitions and his heart had poured out. He really did want Kagome to stay here with him forever, to be his woman, his bitch. She was mouthy and unpredictable in her futuristic ways, but he cared for her deeply. He always wanted to protect her and when they were separated he was miserable. Keeping her by his side forever would alleviate that misery.
He took a deep breath in and looked around the room. His eyes fell on Kagome's who were starting to well up with water, her bottom lip twitching. InuYasha opened his mouth to speak something to her, but he really didn't know what to say and snapped his mouth back shut.
Akanesuji turned to the girl and began with a soft, gentle tone of voice, much like mother or aunt or best girlfriend. “If he asked you today Kagome, would you stay with him?”
The girl in the green and white kimono blushed really hard, her cheeks now looking like the fire rat clothing too, bit her bottom lip and turned her head away. Her answer was so obvious though she didn't say a word. She didn't need to. Everyone, including InuYasha who normally couldn't figure out such things, understood the single tear dropping down her cheek.
“Then I suggest brother dear,” the large dog said, “that you ask her again like you were supposed to last time. She wanted you to ask her, but you never did. Your hesitancy on the battle field has cost you.”
Kagome stood up at the inuyoukai's words and ran from the room crying. Sango started to raise in an effort to follow her, but was quickly held back by Miroku's guiding hand. When she looked at him, he shook his head no, then motioned over to InuYasha, who himself was raising off the floor to catch up with the sobbing girl. Sesshoumaru looked to Akanesuji, who smiled at him back. “Well played my love.”
“Yes, I thought so.”
Sango and Miroku gave them dirty looks, but Akanesuji only winked at him. Sesshoumaru lifted an eyebrow at her and she shrugged like she had no idea what he was looking at. With good smack, Sango hit the monk on the back of the head, to which he turned and grabbed her around the wrists and looked her deeply in the eyes. “Why did you do that for?”
“She winked at you. Why did she wink at you?”
“I don't know. To make you jealous?” the young man said as she struggled against his grasp. He was about fed up with the smacking and he would not let her do it again tonight.
“I'm not jealous.”
“Oh?”
“Let go.” Sango lowered her head and eyes. “Please,” she added diminutively. Once he let her wrists loose, she rubbed them more out of something to do than because they hurt. Miroku watched her carefully and she felt his deep eyes on her. All of her demon training skills could not keep her calm. She really was jealous. Every straying eye, every loose pat, every sneaky squeeze he gave to someone else burned her up inside, making her heart hate him almost as much as she loved him.
He watched her chest rise and fall, normally, slowly at first. Then it began to grow deeper and deeper until a tear dropped down onto her kimono from inside her lowered bangs. “Not you too?” Miroku said, reaching for her arm as she began to back away from him.
“Are you just as blind as InuYasha?” she asked softly, falling from her knee squatting position to a clumsier one on her butt, her legs tucked to one side. She sniffled hard then pulled her hair back, rubbed her cheek dry and flattened the wrinkles in her kimono. “Just tell me now, please. I don't want to live like Kagome, never knowing for sure that you love me as much as I love you.”
“You love me?”
With that, Sango smacked him hard across the face and stormed out, looking more like Kagome in her rage than her normally shy and demure self. The monk was just stupid. Plain old stupid.
And the monk was feeling pretty stupid too. He rubbed his cheek and wondered what had gotten into his sweet Sango. Sure she would smack him for trying to make her jealous, but now she smacked him because he asked her if she loved him. “Oh. Oh hey. She loves me!” he said out loud to himself, figuring it all out in his mind. He slowly stood to his knees on shaky legs, feeling a little light headed. “Um...I think,” he mumbled to everyone in the room. “Um. I think I need to go talk to Sango.” He pointed vaguely in her direction and excused himself with awkward bows to the lord and lady.
“That was even better,” Sesshoumaru said to Akanesuji, who was stiffened up with self pride.
“It was all a matter of timing. He never flirted with others at the right time.”
“Did he ever flirt with you?” the lord asked, his face still pointed in the direction of the door. He could see her in his peripheral vision and she seemed to be smiling with those big doggie lips of hers.
“Of course not, dear. I flirted with him.” Akanesuji rose and sashayed out, regally exiting out of the large open door out into the muddy courtyard. Hizumeha and the ladies looked to Sesshoumaru who was left on the dias alone with Rin. The little girl looked up to her father, curious to see just how mad he would get. If she were lucky, he would be so mad with her mommy that he would forget all about her and Shippo. She crossed her fingers insider her kimono sleeve and hoped, then looked over to the poor kitsune who was eating all alone.
His lordship rose with grace and ignored everyone's bows as he followed his wife. Looking out the gates, he saw her walking along the road, watching the rain clouds break and the moon start to show through. It took nothing to catch up with her. “What was that supposed to mean?” he asked her, pulling a big fist full of hair and swinging himself up onto her shoulders for a ride.
She grinned. “Nothing. I just wanted to urk you enough to follow me out.”
“You can be such an ass.”
“You love me anyway.”
He did not answer, but just let her roam in silence. When they were several leagues from the castle, he grinned to himself with an evil thought. Letting his control over his human form go, he grew to his large true form, pushing Akanesuji down with his weight and pinning her to the ground. With giant teeth he bit at her neck and held her still.
The bitch laughed and pushed her rump up to meet him suggestively, letting her tail move to the side. “I was wondering when you would do that.”
Sesshoumaru went to thrust into her, but she wiggled to the side and made him fall off. He loosened up his bite in surprise and she escaped him. Hoping into a pasture playfully she snatched up a cow who started screaming in panic. Shaking it she killed it quickly and tossed it in the air then caught it, bowing down playfully to her mate in a way that called “let's play ball.”
He lunged for the cow, but she turned her head away and the two of them tore hell through the countryside. Akanesuji would not give over the cow-ball and Sesshoumaru made every effort to catch it and her.
Kagome stood at the inner wall watching the two inuyoukai playing in the fields, her hands resting on the cold stones. InuYasha had been sitting behind her for several minutes, the two of them in total silence. She waited for him to speak first. She waited for him to ask her to stay.
He watched them too. He had never seen his brother so happy. The female inuyoukai brought out the best in Sesshoumaru. They dodged trees, nipped and growled at each other, then gave chase some more, kicking up dirt everywhere, their tongues wagging madly out of their toothy grins. It hurt him to see his brother happy. Not because he wished his brother to be miserable, but because he realized that he was not meant to be full inuyoukai. It was his life long dream, but seeing Sesshoumaru like this made him realize that he could not be a four legged dog. Ever. With a sigh he took the spot next to Kagome.
“They look so happy together don't they?” he said to her, placing his hand over hers yet not looking her in the eyes.
“Yes,” she answered sadly. “I now know why you never wanted me. You want another of your kind.”
“Kagome....”
“No, InuYasha. I've been thinking. It was selfish of me to ever want more from you. I always thought you loved Kikiyo more than me, and I secretly hoped she would die and you would choose me. But now, now I know it's more than that. Look at them InuYasha. I can't give you that.” The two dogs jumped over a fence and the male caught the female when she tripped over it. He grabbed her around the neck with his teeth and began to playfully shake and growl.
“Kagome...” InuYasha squeezed her hand and pulled it to his mouth, kissing it and sniffing it. “I don't want that. I want....you.” He turned her palm up to him and rubbed his cheek into it like a cat. “Will you...stay?”
She froze blinking. He finally asked it. He finally confessed. He admitted he did not want to be a full demon. “Yes!” she cried, turning to face his deep golden eyes staring at her intently. She placed her other hand on his other cheek and marveled at how close they were standing, how intimate. “Yes, InuYasha. I thought you would never ask me.”
He leaned forward and caught her lips into a hard kiss, pulling her up against him with his strong clawed hands. “Oh Kagome,” he murmured in between kisses. “I want you.” His hand trailed down her obi to the sweet round of her bottom. He cradled it in his hand and pulled her even tighter up against him. She put her arms around his neck and continued to kiss him. “I want you too,” she confessed, her single knee bent and raising her foot into the air.
InuYasha pushed her up against the wall and lifted her with ease into a sitting position without ever breaking lips. Putting his hand between her knees he tried to separate them so that he could stand between her legs, but she squealed and broke from him. “I thought you wanted me?” he asked, confused that she would tease him so. Her kisses said yes. Her words said yes, but her knees said no.
Kagome blushed really hard and turned her head away. “I do want you. I want you to...to...to marry me first. I thought you...I thought you would understand that.”
InuYasha joyfully squeezed her like he never had squeezed her before. “Oh Kagome! I'll marry you. I'll do anything to keep you by my side! We'll go get your mother's permission as soon as possible.” InuYasha pushed her back away from him so that he could look her squarely in her face. “Akanesuji offered to be my Nakodo and I will tell her yes. She said she would pay for all my yui-no and help me get all my wives.”
Suddenly, Kagome wasn't so warm and friendly, but stiff and snarling at him. “What?” he asked, very confused at her sudden change.
“ALL YOUR WIVES?”
“Well...yeah. Wives. Like Hizumeha. You know...wives?”
Kagome pushed him away and jumped off the wall. She turned back to watch Sesshoumaru and Akanesuji, who seemed be wrestling low to the ground. “Sesshoumaru doesn't have wives,” she pointed out, squinting her eyes to see what they were doing.
InuYasha put his hand over Kagome's eyes. “Um...they're fucking, Kagome. You don't want to watch that.”
“Oh!” Kagome was deathly embarrassed. She hadn't realized at all what they were doing, and even if she had, it wouldn't have registered at first that they were people, not real dogs. Or...they were youkai and not dogs. Or they were dogs and not people? Akkk. How confusing. “Um. They seem really happy just the two of them.”
“Sesshoumaru just hasn't found other women he wants to take. I'm pretty sure he's got concubines though. He always did when I was younger.”
Kagome frowned. “Poor Akanesuji. She must hate it. I can't imagine knowing that I could be replaced at a whim. We don't do that when I am from. It's just one husband, one wife.”
“But it's the way things are now Kagome. Nobles can have as many as they wish. And besides, Akanesuji can never be replaced except by death. She has rank.”
“I still don't like it. Maybe you should come into the future with me where I don't have to share you with anyone.” Kagome folded her arms over her chest as he cuddled up to her back and rested his head on her shoulder.
“Nah.” he said, nibbling on her neck. “I would rather stay here where I don't have to wear a stupid hat all the time. I'll just not take another wife. Besides. I think you would kill them before I ever got any children out of them.”
Kagome smiled at that. She could agree to stay here as long as he was hers and hers alone. “I love you InuYasha.”
“I love you too.” InuYasha smiled to himself. She hadn't said anything about concubines.
