The daiyoukai stood in the doorway of his wife's room, analyzing everything he saw. Sango sat wearily near the inu's head. She had had a fresh shower and a clean kimono on. Dark circles ran under her eyes from the last month's work. Wet hair was braided and piled up on her head. Kirara sat curled up in a ball on top of one of the low mahogany trunks, watching the others disinterestedly. Sesshoumaru felt he could relate.

Kuza was leaning over the large mound of belly, her hands placed around her. “She's having weak contractions,” she told him. “It may be a day. Maybe less. This little boy is strong and he is clawing to get out.” He narrowed his eyes when the horse slipped her fingers up into his wife and pressed around. “Her cervix isn't open much yet.”

No wonder midwifery was a no man's land. The midwife had to have an intimate knowledge of a woman's body and understand it's more subtle nuances. He didn't even know what a cervix was. Thinking, he made a mental list in order of importance. Vagina. Clitoris. Yep. That was all he needed to know.

“It would help greatly if you would come and suck her breasts,” the horse said, opening her patient's kimono up and exposing her to him. Akanesuji still lay quiet and deathlike.

“I decline.”

“Fine then. I will do it.”

Sesshoumaru growled. “What purpose does it serve?”

“It makes the contractions come faster and harder and makes the milk come.”

He would not care. Not allow himself to care. He waved his hand disinterestedly. “When she comes out of the sleep, send for me. I shall amuse myself with her then.” He turned away and left to find his brother and his new wife.

Sango had never heard anything so mean spirited out of him before and ran after him. “Surely,” she said when she caught up with him in the empty hallway, “you will be kind to her in her condition.”

“This is none of your concern Sango.”

“I don't know what she has done to make you angry, but please...she loves you so.”

“If only she were but as gentle as you are,” he said to her, pulling her face up with his clawed hand. “You would never hurt me, would you?” With a glint in his eye he pulled her into a kiss, taking her soft lips and spreading them with his forceful tongue. She at first coiled away from him, a squeal behind her mouth, but when he wrapped her up with Moko-moko-sama against him she relaxed into it and allowed him to continue. There was no since in fighting. He overpowered her so easily.

When he let her lose she wiped her mouth and frowned, angry at him for doing it and angry at herself for letting him. He was a married man, a married demon in fact. Her friend, not her lover. “How could you? How..as she lays there with your son?”

“I already gave you the answer, and yet you do not understand it.” He turned and walked down the hall, taking in the smell of her saliva on his lips. He didn't care if he was vague or clear. Being misunderstood made him happy. He would do as he pleased, take as he wanted. Women were nothing but playthings to him today.

You would never hurt me would you? The slayer turned back to the room, playing his words in her mind. If she were but as gentle as you...you would never hurt me would you. Oh what had Akanesuji done to hurt him! Poor Sesshoumaru!

ooooOOOOooooo

InuYasha and Kagome heard a knock on the thick wooden door and they scampered to straighten themselves up. “Just a minute!” Kagome yelled, looking at her shirt with horror, the red bloody ring bright against the white. Tying up his hakama pants and wiping his face over his sleeve, the hanyou stood and walked to the door, sniffing at it's edge to see who it was. With a slump of his shoulders and his ears turning down he mouthed to Kagome that it was his brother.

“I know you are on the other side of the door brother so I know you can hear me. I have wish to see you and your bride in my private chambers at your leisure some time before night fall.”

“We'll be there!” she said, relieved that he would give them time to change clothes and tidy up. InuYasha relaxed too. He really didn't want to see his brother just now.

InuYasha escorted her to the women's wing, where he sat at the door waiting for her to bathe and change. When Miroku came up and started pulling the door open, the hanyou gave him a strange look. “Where are you going, houshi-sama?”

The dark haired young man cast a glance to his good friend. “I have business to attend to. The ladies are in need of spiritual comfort.”

“Feh.” Spiritual comfort his ass.

“What are you doing here?”

“Waiting for Kagome.” InuYasha thrust his hands deeper into his sleeves. “Hey, are you going to stick around with us or are you going to go to the buffer lands?”

“I'm still haven't made up my mind. I'm waiting for Sango's answer.”

“Feh.” InuYasha didn't want to get into it with his friend. He wanted to call him a hentai pervert, not good enough for gentle and sweet Sango, but then he would loose his friendship with him. It was just not his business to interfere in the love lives of others. He was doing good to figure Kagome out.

Kagome pushed open the door as Miroku pulled it, making for a comedic run in. “Hey! Miroku. We've been trying to find you. We were hoping that you might marry us tomorrow. Did InuYasha already ask you that?”

The monk looked to the white haired young man sitting on the ground. “No. It must have slipped his mind. He was asking me about something else.”

“Oh? What's that?”

“If I was going to the buffer lands.”

“Are you?” she asked, beginning to wonder why he was here at the women's wing.

“It's up to Sango,” the monk said, pulling the door open further. “If she wants me, I'll stay.”

Kagome nodded in understanding. “About tomorrow? Can you marry us tomorrow?”

The monk smiled. “Yeah. We can do it in the morning.” Kagome gave him a big hug and thanked him as InuYasha stood up, growling a little in possessiveness. She just pursed her lips and let go of Miroku, glad that her hubbie loved her so much. Holding out her hand, the hanyou took it and pulled her roughly to him as they exited down the hallway.

Miroku straightened up his clothes and ran his fingers though his hair. It was party time.

On the way to Sesshoumaru's private chambers, they stopped at Akanesuji's next door. The door was wide open and there was a small crowd inside. Sango, Kuza and the inu were all on the bed while Rin and Shippo sat in the corner next to each other. They were sitting tightly holding hands. “Hey you guys...what's going on?”

Sango stood and approached them, her face worn out and tired, her breath smelling like Sesshoumaru. InuYasha gave her a perplexed look. He hadn't expected that. “Akanesuji's gone into labor,” she said.

“How come you smell like my brother?” InuYasha whispered to her, pushing his face closer to her ear. He had gotten used to her smelling like his brother from their last month of him cuddling with her at night, but this was concentrated on her lips and her body was freshly washed. The slayer shouldn't smell like him anymore.

The woman blushed and tried to wipe her mouth off once again. “He just kissed me in the hallway. I still haven't figured out why.” InuYasha could tell by her facial expressions that she was being truthful. It had confused her and it wasn't something she had asked for. She didn't have that tale-tell smell women got when they were aroused. He just nodded that it was no big deal and moved on with the conversation.

Kagome though, she knew a lot more about Sesshoumaru from her trips to the future. “He's a womanizer Sango. Stay away from him.”

“How do you know?” Sango asked, thinking Sesshoumaru innocent of such deeds. He had always been honorable to her.

“Trust me. I met up with him on the other side of the well. Akanesuji there isn't much better.”

“Oh my gosh. I was right. She has done something to hurt his feelings.” The slayer put her hand over her mouth. Her suspicions had been correct. That bitch hurt poor Sesshoumaru.

“No, no. That isn't what I meant! She isn't like that now. She gets like that in the future.” Kagome's hands flapped around as she talked with her hands.

“Oh.” To Sango, that wasn't much better. Poor Sesshoumaru.

“Try not to worry about it Sango. They kiss and make up eventually. They're all happily-ever-after in my time.”

Sango sighed and relaxed visibly, though she still had her doubts. “Good. I was worried.”

“Hey,” InuYasha said, pulling himself a little closer to Sango again. “Are you gonna get back with Miroku, 'cause he said he'd only stay with the group of us if you take him back.”

Frustration swept across Sango's face. This was a subject she had been trying to avoid for days knowing that she was going to have to make some kind of decision once she ran back into him. She didn't know if she could handle seeing him again. Would she swoon and feel that jump in her chest or would she feel indifferently? She didn't know. The weeks had proven to her that she could live without him. “I guess I need to go talk to him. Do you know where he is?”

Her two companions curled their lips into their mouths and buttoned them up. They knew alright, and it would be hard to lie. If you had nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Sango shook her head. Their silence was all the answer she needed. “Reeks of horses huh?” she said, looking InuYasha and Kagome intently over. The two nodded up and down and that was the end of it. She would never think of him romantically again.

“Um....we gotta go,” Kagome said, nervously running her hand through her hair. Sango just shrugged and turned back around. Someday she would find true love. She just didn't know where, when or how.

Kuza lifted her head. Miroku was with the other girls, leaving her here to work. Anger burned in her. Biting her tongue she turned back to her task at hand. Those girls were really going to get it now. She had already punished them once for taking their toy away from her too soon. Now they would pay for playing with him without her.

Shippo stood up and ran for Kagome, grabbing around her leg and holding on tight. “Kagome,” he said in a fearful state as she lifted him up to hold him in her arms. “Rin is being sent away.”

“What?” the girl and her husband said in unison and disbelief.

“Sesshoumaru is sending Rin away to the buffer lands. He's putting her in the shiobi orphanage there.”

Kagome looked down to Rin, now noticing the tears in her eyes as her chin rested on the tops of her knees. “Why would he do that? I thought he wanted you to be a lady, not a kinochi.”

Rin started wailing again. It was Shippo who replied. “He asked her if she loved him, and when she didn't know how to answer, he decided she didn't love him any more.”

“It's 'cause I called him a stupid dog!” she yelled, burying her face into her sleeve. “I told him I was sorry, but he won't listen to me.”

“Oh no, Rin,” Kagome said, keeling down to the little girl. She rubbed her hair with her fingers, combing it back behind an ear. “Do you want me to talk to him for you?”

“Could you?”

“I'll try,” the miko said, trying to comfort the girl. “But you know, I thought your dream was to become a kinochi like your mother. Wouldn't this be a great way to train?”

Rin gave her a dirty look. “But Shippo won't be there.”

“But other children will be. You seemed to like the village a lot. I mean, come on....we had to drag you away kicking and screaming from the fields. There will be a bunch of boys and girls there, and I hear there are youkai and hanyous too.”

Kuza nodded her head up and down in agreement. “There are lots children. Two large halls worth.”

Her little girl's eyebrows knitted together in thought, her mouth chewing at nothing but air. “Daddy would just hate it if I went and had a good time. I know he's trying to punish me. He's trying to separate me and Shippo.”

“It's up to you Rin.” Kagome said, feeling Shippo's little hands tightened around the collar of her kimono anxiously. He didn't want to see his little girl go away.

“That's it!” she yelled, standing up. “If it will piss off daddy, then I'll do it!” A little fist rammed into the air, the little girl posing like a superhero.

Shippo just banged his head over and over again against Kagome's shoulder. His little piss and vinegar girl had made up her mind and there was no turning back. He was going to lose her.

His love wasn't worth as much as her hate.

Rin ran out of the room to get her things packed, her bare feet slapping on the hardwood floors. Sesshoumaru watched her little figure running past his door as she yelled “SSTttuuuupppiiiiddd ddddooogggg!” and he seethed. He burned. He hated.
