Knowing the future was one thing.

Experiencing the now was another.

Sesshou of the future had told her long ago that he would cheat on her, but that never prepared her for the hurt.

Days had passed and she laid in her bed chamber attended by the mare Kuza. Occasionally Kagome and Sango would come. When she grew tired of them, she would send them off to decorate InuYasha's apartments. Anything to get the girlish chatter to quit. She just wasn't in the mood and Kagome had some very modern ideas about décor.

She knew the human girls were trying to cheer her up, but right now the only thing that would make her happy would be Kagura's head on a pike, proudly displayed on the main gate for all to see.

The hurt grew even deeper when the girls had told her just who Kagura was. That vile bitch was the enemy, a puppet minion to that nasty thing that had tried to devour her. And worse, he said he was counting on her to be murderous. He said that just so she wouldn't do it.

But she knew she would.

Her revenge would be to get back into her old kinochi shape as soon as possible and deny him. Kill the whore, leave him without a bed to lie in. In time she would join Rin, go back to the school. Train. Raise her son amongst other children. And most of all, force him to be alone.

She would live for Manatsu and for no other.

Fuck Sesshoumaru and his roving dankon. Shinobi-go-seek never looked so good.

She pet his Moko-moko-sama, the thing had come to her in her time of need, leaving him alone. Already he was loosing everyone and everything around him. The high regard and respect everyone once gave him was crumbling fast.

Sango was to the point of hating him. Kagome didn't, only because she knew the future, but she still held him at an arm's length. InuYasha had mixed feelings, that was obvious from the looks on his face before he left. Her stallion servant obviously hated him, cussing him for sending him back so soon. He had come to see her right before leaving, promising to write her often.

And Rin, her darling Rin, was crying and sobbing before she left. She grasp at her hands, holding her tight, begging for her protection as Hezumeha and Kuza tore her away. InuYasha had taken her off the dias in front of everyone, humbling her. Akanesuji could not be mad with him, he was only following Sesshoumaru's wishes.

It was he who was the cause of everyone's miseries.

The only good thing he was doing was bringing her sisters here. She had planned to bring them here to play with Rin, to give her more friends to choose from, but now she just looked foreward to their company. They would fill the place with their laughter. She would let them faun over Manatsu as she trained in the courtyard. She laughed. Sesshoumaru was so dumb. He would unknowingly help her in her come back plans.

And the girls were just like her. Two white haired courtiers, skilled in the womanly arts and deadly kinochi. The only thing that separated them was age and experience. The middle daughter appeared just older than Rin, the youngest just a year or two younger. They shared in their mother's evil temperament and Akanesuji's joy of life. They would giggle as they stuck a hair pin in your eye.

Akanesuji just laughed manically when her husband appeared at the door. She told Kuza to leave them and go take a bath or something.

Kami, she has gone mad, he thought to himself.

She grabbed the sleeping infant and sat up, then thrust him towards Sesshoumaru. “Here, hold him.”

There was something not right in how she said it, but he took the baby anyway. He had not gotten to hold him once yet and now was his chance. With his single arm he grabbed for him, then hesitated when he couldn't figure out how to do it with just one arm.

“Sit down stupid,” she said.

Frowning he did so, not liking her tone or the name calling. Gently she laid the infant in his lap and curled his arm underneath it's head. “Support his head. His neck is too weak to hold it up himself.”

“It would not be so if he were a pup.”

“If he were a pup then he would not get enough milk from these breasts and his eyes and ears would still be closed.” She dropped the Moko-moko-sama down to her waist, exposing herself before him. They were bigger now, fuller and he couldn't help but look at them. She turned and left for the bathing room. He watched her walk away, covered only by his mantle.

That stupid thing was now her best friend. He huffed.

No time for that now he said, looking down on his little boy. He was perfect. Pale white skin, golden yellow eyes, white hair. Precious. Sesshoumaru cuddled him closer and sniffed him deep. He smelled like him and her combined. His heart opened up and he smiled. Really smiled. A tear, then two ran down his face. This was everything. His son. His most precious son.

And now he understood so much. A dawning. An awakening. This feeling of fatherhood was the key to it all. Pride. Loyalty. Love. He didn't even know this creature as a person. Didn't know what he liked, didn't know his thoughts, but he did know that he loved him. Heart and soul. This little thing was the thing he was supposed to protect.

Do you have someone to protect?

Father... you knew...you laughed at me....'cause you knew...

I'm a father.

Rin.

Oh God Rin, what have I done to you?

More tears came. Would things have been different if Rin had been his from birth? He had never held her like this, never experienced his own smell in hers. And yet... now he knew he really was her father despite it all, her protector, her kin and he had killed it. My daughter...

My wife...

And he had killed that too. This moment should be filled with rejoicing. He should be showing his baby off to the world. To his mother. To the shrine and the ancestors. He had killed her joy. Akanesuji...

He was stupid. So stupid. All these things had been right before him and he never saw them. He held Manatsu so close.

He needs you, just as much as you need him.

Peaches. The smell of peaches. Looking around the room he saw no one. The voice was familiar, but he didn't know why.

She returned from the bathing room and sat on the edge of her bed, covered in Moko-moko-sama and her own furry mantle as well. Her hair was clean and freshly brushed, her skin glowed. Sesshoumaru raised his eyes and thought her the most beautiful thing in the world for giving this most precious gift to him. “I love you,” he whispered straight from his breaking heart.

“That's nice.” Go ahead. Fall in love with him. Then I will steal him from you like you stole my Rin and you will cry some more. She laid back down and covered herself up in furs, closed her eyes and allowed herself the luxury of a nap. Sleep was a precious commodity now, and she would take it when ever she could. She knew she would wake at the baby's first fuss. Purposefully she turned her back to him.

“What is it going to take for you to come back to me?” he asked her.

“There is nothing you can do baka inu. I will come back when I am ready to and no sooner.”

“But you will come back.”

“Yes. The future has already dictated it.”

“Sesshou...at the well...”

“Yes.”

A glimmer of hope. A small glimmer of hope. He smiled to his son and cuddled him again. Things will get better.

Hope you fool. Hope I come back to you. The future can always change.
