Chapter 1
The young demon walked through their town as he was heading for the forest to hunt. He walked with grace and even though he suppressed most of his youki he let just a hint cover him like a blanket to let the others know to let him be.
His little brother, InuYasha had been left behind with their “foster parents”, mostly old demons and demoness' that wanted to spoil and cuddle with him. The males treated InuYasha as the boy he was but the females did what they wanted. It hadn't been one time that he had come back after a hunt and found InuYasha in a rather... cute situation.
When he arrived at the edge of the forest that surrounded their village he took of in high speed, not even leaving a dust cloud behind. His sensitive nose picked up a prospering prey right away. A deer, full-grown, alone and out of sight from his other kin, a little more than a mile away.
Sesshoumaru kept his speed and within a minute he had caught his prey. The dead body of the animal lay beside him as his claws dripped with blood from the single attack. It had been simple and painless, like he wanted to keep the killing. He couldn't understand why some of his other kin liked the challenge of keeping their prey alive longer, making them suffer as their primal instincts took control and drove them to blood lust.
His nose picked up something. Humans. He were far from their village but still the humans were to close for comfort. The humans knew they lived there somewhere but it would probably be only a question of time before they were found.
He hauled his prey over one shoulder and masked both their smell before going back the same way and speed he had come, erasing his trace from the village at the same time.
He landed at the first house of their town. Who said youkais lived on the ground like animals. Their lifestyle might not be to far away from humans as they thought, if only they took a look.
“Brother!” a young albino boy yelled as he ran up to Sesshoumaru. “Welcome back.” he said with a smile.
“I'm back.” he said with a pleasant smirk on his face. “Help me prepare the food.”
“Un.” InuYasha nodded as he agreed.
Together they walked back to their home, talking about some irrelevant thing as they walked the same road they had walked a million times. That day they feasted on the deer, preserved the skin to make clothes or whatnot when they needed it. The bones were collected to be buried later that same night, returning the spirit of the animal to the earth where it belonged.
Sesshoumaru strongly believed in their belief of respecting their wild born spirits and return them to the earth. He taught InuYasha it and together they prayed for the protection of their souls and the ones that had died to keep them from starving.
“InuYasha, come.” Sesshoumaru said that night as he lifted the blanked to his sleeping place. InuYasha slithered under without a protest or question. He happily settled down and rested against his elder brother. His night shirt twisting around him and he had to adjust it a bit before he could sleep.
They had done this since years back. They always shared a bed when they slept. As children they did it and even now as they were slowly growing into adults they continued it. It was a habit and when the other wasn't around they couldn't sleep well. Maybe it was the knowledge of knowing the other was safe or close that made them relax. Either way, everyone in the village knew of their sleeping habits and agreed that the albino brothers shared a strong bond together.
Sesshoumaru settled down too and his arms wrapped around InuYasha and held him close. Immediately fell InuYasha under the spell of the night as he soaked up the warmth of his brother too keep the cold of the night away. Sesshoumaru lay awake for a time, while thinking about the day. Tomorrow he had to prevent the humans from finding their town, otherwise he won't be able to protect InuYasha.
His eyes slowly closed as he joined his little brother in the safe and harmless world of dreams. Forgetting all his worries until he woke up.
-o-o-o-o-
The smell of smoke and fire woke them up, along with the terrifying screams. Their world was on fire. Everything around them burned and the smoke was so strong it stuck in their noses. Sesshoumaru jumped up and pulled InuYasha along with him. He held tightly onto one of InuYasha's hands and said only one thing.
“Run.”
They leaped from the burning house and out to be greeted by slaughter. Humans and Youkais fought each other to the bloody end. Dead youkais lay around them and even some humans. Everywhere was destruction and death.
The brothers were shocked by the sight but Sesshoumaru gathered his senses first and pulled his little brother along as he broke out into a run. They avoided the humans and dodged every attempt their enemy did to catch them.
Sesshoumaru saw red as he desperately tried to get them to the forest where they could hide. He slashed at the humans that came their way as well as the rumble that lay in their way.
They had almost made it when suddenly InuYasha tripped and fell. Their hands slipping from each other and Sesshoumaru made a dead stop and turned around. InuYasha was just picking himself up from the ground when a rain of arrows began to fall over them. In blind desperation Sesshoumaru threw himself on top of his little brother in order to protect him. He reflected some of the arrows with his youki but the rest of them hit him. They pierced his back and legs and he choked on a cry of pain that went through his body.
“Brother! Brother!” InuYasha screamed as he tried to get up but his older brother held him down with more power than he had. “Let me up. Brother!” but his screams went on deaf ears.
Soon they were surrounded by humans and Sesshoumaru was pulled of. His instinct reacted when he somewhat thought he heard InuYasha cry his name, he slashed out with his claws and drew blood from the two humans hauling him away.
The others pointed their weapons at him while he crawled back to InuYasha. He gathered his brother in his arms and held him close. He narrowed his eyes and glared at the humans who were whispering among themselves.
“Albino. They are albino.”
A foolish human tried to step closer and Sesshoumaru growled at him, making him flinch back.
InuYasha gasped as he saw behind the humans all the dead demons. The demons that had raised him. Some were disgraced and others simply killed. He saw the humans taking away some of the youkais they had actually captured, mostly children and some females. Everyone was covered in grim and blood.
Sesshoumaru turned InuYasha away from it, trying to protect him from seeing how their world had been violated and killed. He knew it was to late but at least he could shelter him from the worst right now.
The humans parted and a man stepped in. His gloves were stained with blood and his pants were dirty but he looked at them with appeal. Something that made Sesshoumaru want to puke.
“Albino, huh.” the man said in a strangely boyish voice. “Never seen a pair like them before. I like them.” he seemed to think for a moment before he clapped his hands. “It's decided. I take them with me. Chain them up.”
His words needed no second repeat as the chains rained over the brothers. Sesshoumaru tried his best to resist and escape but in the long run it was pointless. InuYasha was to scared to even stand up and he was wounded and all the struggle only helped him lose more blood. In the end he had to give up. A bitter taste of regret and humiliation he would never forget.
They were transported away to a world they knew little about. They had no idea what would happen to them from now on but in the little cage they were in Sesshoumaru looked over his shoulder one last time, their home were no longer.
-o-o-o-o-
For days they were transported over the land. Even over the sea. They were always chained and guarded. Sesshoumaru's injuries healed themselves slowly thanks to the extensive injuries he had received and InuYasha watched over his brother all the time. They slept in each other arms all the way and took comfort from the fact that they hadn't been separated.
But it didn't make the experience less frightening.
“Brother. Wake up.” InuYasha said before sitting down gently next to his brother with a bowl of food cradled in his hands.
Slowly Sesshoumaru opened his eyes and hauled himself up to a sitting position, despite his back still hurt even though his wounds had healed completely the day before. The chain around his neck rang out its metallic sound as it moved like a snake from where it was hooked to the wall. He looked tired and felt even worse. Most likely did the humans drug his food to keep in place. They didn't want an semi-adult male youkai running free.
He looked down at the food and had no strength to even hide his disgust with their “food”. To put it mildly, he could see things that weren't supposed to be there if it's not spoiled.
“I know it's not great but it was all I could get from the humans. We should store a little for tomorrow.” InuYasha said with weariness. “They don't seem to keen on feeding us.”
He took up a piece and leaned forward. The chain around his neck jingled along with his movement. Holding the so-called break to his lips Sesshoumaru couldn't refuse and bit down. It tasted repulsive and he wanted to gag but he forced it down his throat and tried not to gag it back up.
Simply revolting.
He took hold of another piece with his bandaged arm and lifted it to InuYasha's lips. The younger brother smiled as he ate it and showed how he equally thought it repulsing. They continued to feed each other until just a little was left. InuYasha had to put a hand on his mouth to keep it down as his stomach did a 180 turn.
“You should rest InuYasha. Come.” Sesshoumaru said before lifting the thin blanket and scooped to the side to share the warm spot where he had been sleeping, the new icing cold floor felt like torture but he couldn't be picky since this was the cargo bay.
InuYasha moved under and scooped closer until they shared the warmth under the blanket. His feet was like ice cubes but he rubbed them together to get them warmed.
Suddenly a human came by and when he saw them he said something they couldn't understand but from the way he was talking it was clearly disrespectful. He left for a while but came back with a few of his friends.
InuYasha got scared and tried to hide in Sesshoumaru's embrace but he could hear those haunting words he didn't understand. Someone poked him with something hard and it was then that Sesshoumaru growled threatening at them and showed his teeth.
The humans muttered something before leaving them.
InuYasha shivered in Sesshoumaru's arms. He knew they would be back and he feared it. He feared humans.
Sensing the distress of his blood kin Sesshoumaru ran his hands up and down InuYasha's back in a soothing gesture to get him to calm down. He nuzzled with InuYasha's hair and whispered how everything would be all right.
Somehow it would.

Finally they had arrived. They were let out of their cage but the chains remained on. Carefully they were taken of the ship and chained like animals to some of the cargo. Slaves came forth and began to stuff it on strange carriages. Some of the slaves were clearly demons or even hanyous which made them nervous each time they approached Sesshoumaru.
He masked his youki the best he could in his condition and weak state but still he couldn't hide his superior youki from the others of his kind.
InuYasha held tightly onto Sesshoumaru's arm as he looked around nervously. During the trip they had learned of what would become of them. They had learned that they belonged to their human owner from now on. They had no freedom. No home to return to and they were no better than the slaves around them.
They were alone.
When the man who “owned” them came out from a near by building they started their journey “home”.
InuYasha and Sesshoumaru stayed close by each other as the chains around their neck lead them forward forcefully. The younger sibling felt close to tears as the humans they passed stopped and watched them. He was scared. More scared than their time on the boat.
Sesshoumaru caught his hand and repressed the urge to growl at the humans. Even if his instincts told him to do it he couldn't because he was in no position to fight back if things turned even worse.
“It's all right. I'm here.” Sesshoumaru said with a squeeze with his hand. “Nothing or no one will hurt you.”
Returning the squeeze the brothers walked for a good hour with people looking and pointing at them. Finally they came to a big house made of stone. Compared to the other houses this one was much larger and it even had a large yard surrounding it.
A gate was opened and let them in.
The “ruler” of this house walked forward to the stair leading to the front door. He took of his hat and with confident steps began to climb. The door suddenly opened and out came a blond haired girl in a frilly frilly green dress. She looked a little over 14 years and had an air of “no-concern-in-the-world”.
“Daddy.” she shrieked happily as she hugged him. “Welcome back.”
“Welcome back, master.” said the old butler behind her that walked out along with three other slaves in rather clean clothes, but they were still half-demons.
“I'm home. Have you been a good girl.” he asked with a smile.
“Of course daddy.” she looked around his arm and saw the brothers standing among the many wagons and humans. Her face broke out in a huge smile. “You bought new slaves!”
“No. Rather than bought I captured them myself.” he said as he held her back a little.
“They are rather strange coloured.” she mused.
“They are albino, precious. They're really rare even among demons.”
“That's wonderful.” she said said before walking over to them. The closer she got the more on guard Sesshoumaru got. But with her naïve nature she didn't notice. “Ah. How cute.” she said when she stood close to InuYasha and saw his puppy ears. She reached out to touch them.
“Don't.” her father called but it was to late.
InuYasha flinched and Sesshoumaru snapped out his claws and cut her hand over the fingers, drawing blood.
She screamed and clutched her hand in fear and pain. Blood dripped down her hand and began to soak her arm and dress.
It became chaos after that. The daughter was taken away and Sesshoumaru and InuYasha was pushed to the ground. The man was furious and yelled something to his men who separated the brothers. InuYasha screamed for his brother as he was forcefully pulled back and away by three really strong humans.
Sesshoumaru reached out his arm in a futile attempt to reach InuYasha but he was dragged away in his neck chain.
InuYasha didn't see Sesshoumaru for the rest of the day. He was thrown into a room and crawled to the corner of it after he was locked inside. The room was barren and only had one bed, if it could be called that. InuYasha had never seen a bed like that before and it looked strange in his eyes.
It wasn't until late the same night that Sesshoumaru was brought back to him but in a bad state.
-o-o-o-o-
The door opened and the men hauled someone in. InuYasha looked up and saw right away it was his brother hunched forward on the floor.
“Brother.” he cried as he ran to the others side.
The elder brother tried to push himself up but his arms shook terribly and he had no strength left and could only collapse back to the floor with a grunt.
“Brother, what's wrong?” InuYasha asked with tears in his eyes before he saw the answer.
Sesshoumaru had been horribly whipped. Angry and some bleeding hit marks marred his back in deep crimson. For hours he had most likely been punished because of the incident earlier. With much difficulty and effort, InuYasha managed to get Sesshoumaru onto the “bed” without causing him to much discomfort. He now lay on his stomach and he had removed what was left of his cloths and with some improvisation he got water and a piece of cloth to clean the marks.
The whole time InuYasha sobbed and asked for forgiveness. He knew that if he hadn't flinched at that time none of this would had happened.
After a few minutes of rest Sesshoumaru had enough strength to open his mouth. In a raspy voice he said, “It's not your fault. I told you didn't I?”
He craned his neck, shooting shots of pain down his spine, so he could see InuYasha's face.
“I will always protect you.”
Big tears flooded his eyes and they fell with little effort and he buried his face in his hands in a childish attempt to hide them.
Sesshoumaru smiled lovingly at InuYasha before he blacked out and fell asleep. The sound of InuYasha's tears echoed in his ears.
To Be Continued.
