Though I would love to own something as fantasiful as Inuyasha, I sadly do not and nor do I plan to continue to remind you people. So get over the fact that I have no intention of writing another of these, and please enjoy the show! ^_^

Chapter One: The Mystery Begins to Unfold
~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~
Several years later.....
"Momma!" Yelled a young woman with midnight black hair as she ran into her home, "Momma, its me, Kagome."
"Its so good to have you home sweetie," her mother smiled softly at her eldest daughter as she ran in through the back door into the elder woman's arms.
"I missed you so much momma, there is so much to tell you!" Kagome exclaimed as her mother led her to the living room. "Where is grandpa and Souta?"
"Your grandpa decided to start teaching your brother some of the shrine duties so that while your gone he can help out a bit. So how is everyone?"
"Great momma, Sango and Miroku finally admitted that they loved each other and are planning their wedding. Shippou met a kitsune family and they're teaching him how to be a proper kitsune. Inuyasha is as stubborn as ever, and whining about making his wish, which I won't let him. And-"
"Why won't you let him make the wish sweet heart?" She interrupted her daughter in a slight bit of confusion.
"I just want him to really think about what he wants for once, and not leap into it momma, and if I have to shatter the jewel a second time to get him to slow down and think; than I will." Kagome's mother nodded in understanding as her daughter sigh, "Its just so strange." At seeing the confused look on her mother's face she hurried to explain. "Well we spent over two years hunting and fighting and then we won and destroyed Naraku. Now for almost a year its been nothing but peace, its unnerving."
"Aya!" yelled a male voice from outside, "Come out here and give me a hand with this son of yours!" Both females laughed at the frustration that was evident in the voice.
"Come on, I have a feeling that I may need your help as well," Aya laughed as she stood and walked out through the back door to the shrine where Kagome's grandfather and brother were. Both women had to stop and laugh at the site the young male presented. There was Souta suspended in the air three feet from the ground and tangled in the holy ropes.
"Mom!" he wailed, "Help me down, please?" Aya merely laughed and tugged slightly on Kagome's arm. Carefully the undid what Souta had gotten himself into and set him safely on his feet. He lunged into his mothers arms and thanked her again and again.
"Hey!" Kagome yelled, "So this is how you treat both women who help you out of a mess that you created?" Souta's head snapped up almost painfully and whipped around to see his older sister. He quickly jumped into his sister's embrace and hugged tightly. "Ease up! Ease up!" Kagome gasped out. "Sorry Nee-chan, I'm just happy to see you," he chuckled and released her from his grip. He turned and gave his grandfather a sheepish grin, "Sorry 'bout the holy rope ji-chan." The elder male sighed and rubbed his temple. With a shake of his head he waved off the event.
"Go, have fun with your sister, your mother and I will clean up this mess," he said turning to the pile of rope. Both children looked to their mother and with her smile and nod, took off for the house laughing and yelling. "You've waited long enough dear, you need to tell them while the passage remains. Remember we don't know."
"I know papa, I know. I'm just not sure how to tell them," her words tired and worn, brought sympathy to the old man's eyes.
"I know its not an easy thing, you forget Momma and I had to tell you and their father when you two 'came of age', Kagome more then Souta deserves to know what she'll be dealing with."
"I know papa, I'll tell them soon, I promise."
"Dear, that's what you have said for the last ten years," he sighed and shook his head as her head dropped so her chin rested against her sternum. "I don't mean to be harsh, but time runs slim for her," he turned from Aya and quickly set about tying the holy rope into its proper place. Once finished with the simple task he turned back to his daughter and grin slightly, humor returning. "Now I do believe we have an eighteenth year old's birthday to celebrate, ne?" She grinned in acknowledgment and turned back to the house.
"Home made oden and cake, a few gifts from family and friends, and a family secret revealed." He smiled at her as she opened the door for him and stood to the side.
"I think she'll enjoy it dear, I truly do; if you need me, I'll be in my room reading an old book." Aya nodded and followed her father in, shutting the door behind herself. He walked upstairs and she looked to the living room as she entered the living room. Her precious children, the only thing left to remind her of her deceased love and husband; the one whom was to have remained at her side for eternity. Sighing inwardly her focus limited to Kagome.
Her eldest child and the one to resemble her husband, and possible her own real mother. Shacking her head she turned to make dinner while her thoughts drifted to how she would reveal her to her kids the secret of their blood.
"Happy birthday sweet heart," Aya said setting down the circle cake in front of Kagome.
"Blow out the candles Nee-chan!" Souta yelled as the elders smiled silently. Kagome closed her eyes and as she blew out the candles made a simple wish. "What'd ya wish for?" Souta asked as he sat back in his seat next to his sister. Oh whom smiled and shook her head.
"You know if I tell you it won't come true," she laughed and thanked her mother as the elder woman set a piece of cake in front of her. "This is the best ka-san," her mother simply smiled.
"The night is not over sweetie." Kagome's blue eyes lit up as they all sat down to eat their cake and laugh over memories.
"So momma, what's next?" her mother laughed and led the small group into the livingroom where the coffee table was covered with presents. Kagome squealed and ran to the table to look over the presents. Some were from her friends others from her family, "My friends sent gifts?"
"Yes, they said that though you were probably too sick to be around them, they still wanted you to have gifts and celebrate your birthday." Kagome sent a weak glare at her grandfather and smiled.
"They're good friends, not the best people, but good friends." They laughed and settled into let Kagome open her gifts. From most of her friends she received clothes and herbal remedies, she laughed when she opened the gift from Hojo. It was just one big remedy pack, she slanted a look at her grandfather and shook her head.
Her grandfather gave her a book on youkai lore, Souta gave her a new journal. Her mother gave her a silver chain and bracelet.
"These are so beautiful momma!" Kagome said slipping the bracelet on her right wrist and the chain over her head. Her mother smiled brightly at her, the silver did fit her personality after all. Bright and innocent in appearance, but also one of the strongest known metals in existence.
"Look closer at it sweetie," her mother said. Lifting the chain up to eye sight Kagome found kanji scripted across the metal. It said, "Kagome of the North," she looked up at her mother with a puzzled look. Her mother simply laughed and hugged her close saying that it was a family thing and told her to look at the bracelet closer. "Star flower of my heart - Dad," Kagome felt tear prick her eyes as she saw the last word and remembered her father calling her his star flower.
"He had it made when you were a baby, but we agreed to wait for your eighteenth birthday, he never knew that he wouldn't." Her mothers voice trailed off as everyone let the knowledge sink in of what she had spoken. "He loved you both dearly, he always talked about when you grew up what he would teach you each. He always said that no matter what you would always be his precious star flower even when the truth came to be." Kagome looked once more at her mother with a puzzled look and her mother held a hand over her mouth in shock.
"What do you mean momma?" Souta asked from his seat near his sister. A quick look to the clock saved the older woman from explaining.
"Would you look at that, Souta its passed you bed time, you'll never get up in the morning. Now come, off to bed with you." With that said she ushered the boy to his bed and got him to sleep quicker than she had hoped. Aya reluctantly walked back to the living room where she knew Kagome was still sitting with her grandfather.
"Before you ask or say anything, let me speak dear child," she said raising her hand to silence the young female. "Your father and I are not of this family, you and Souta are our children. But your oji-san is not of kin to us by blood. You see when I was a baby, they found me crying and alone; covered in blood. Blood that we can only assume to be that of my family whomever they might be. Your father was found in a similar fashion about two years later when he was about four and with no memories. Your oji-san guessed that it was amnesia that held everything from him.
"What struck them as odd was each time they found us, we were within the Bone Eater's well." Kagome stared in wonder at her mother as she sat next to the man she always called grandfather. Her exhaustion became evident as the elder woman continued. "Kagome I want to show you something, but you must promise to remain calm and quite dear." Kagome nodded silently and mentally braced herself for whatever might come next. At least she thought she had. Her mother removed the silver chain that had always been present around her neck. Kagome watched as her mother's kind and loving features sharpened into that of a...
"A youkai?" Kagome hissed, keeping in mind her mother's request.
"Yes Kagome, your mother is a youkai, as was your father," Kagome looked to her grandfather in awe. She stuttered and pointed to her mother then herself making the old man chuckle and nod. Aya looked to her daughter in concern.
"Look at my chain Kagome and tell me what you read." The chain was placed in the girl's hands and she read the script with wide eyes. "Yumika of the North, Yumika is my true name child. And before you ask I have no clue what it means about being of the North." The one now known as Yumika sat in front of Kagome and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "We searched all the youkai records we could possibly find of Sengko Jidai and found nothing on myself or your father. After a few years we gave up and started to live our lives as humans. But Siko and Sakura never let us forget our true heritage and let me tell you," she giggled as memories surfaced. "They had some strange ways of doing so."
"Momma?" her mother nodded to her, telling her to continue. "Poppa really did die, right?" the depressed and broken look Yumika gave Kagome confirmed it. "Where did the name Aya come from then?"
"That was a nickname your father game me when we were pups running around torturing each other. Some how it stuck and so its on all my records now." Kagome nodded in understanding and looked to her grandfather, Siko.
"Then why the scrolls on Inuyasha?"
"Had to keep him from learning your mother's truth, it may cover her scent on a normal basis, but when she's in heat like the few times you've brought him home, I had to do something. He would have known the scent and started asking questions we weren't ready to explain." Once more she nodded. Her eyes sparked as another thought occurred to her.
"My scent, Inuyasha always said it was a strange scent, but it was still human. How is that? And why did you make such a big deal about me being home for this birthday?" Yumika sighed and looked to Siko of whom held up his hands, saying she was on her own. She glared at him and turned back to Kagome's curious gaze.
"Well, when you were born, you had the shikon within you. That seemed to control your scent to a degree, but to be save your father and I went through a few nightmares to place several careful spells on you and your brother. As for this birthday, well its special to humans and to us." At Kagome's slight glare and a deep glint in her blue eyes that seemed darker than usual Yumika continued. "Tonight is the night that all the spells your father and I created will fall, I was supposed to have taught you over the years how to handle being a youkai. But with your father's death I lost my will. Now you have to stay home for at least a week so I can help you learn the basics." she rushed the last bit and Kagome almost missed it.
Unfortunately she did and her reaction was that of a groan and dropping her face into her hands. She grumbled about Inuyasha killing her for this and a bunch of unladylike things that has her mother scolding her. Siko only chuckled and sat back on the couch with a grin as the two quietly argued over what would happen next. 'Boy this is going to be one crazy week.'
