Chapter Thirty

It had been two weeks since her father had awaken. He had not fully recovered but was able to walk around and bathe and feed himself, but Raine and Rumiko didn't let him do too much. He wasn't so weak that he could barely do anything but his daughter's didn't want him to over do it.

Raine was now five monts pregnant. She knew she would soon give birth; the healer had told her that the baby had turned over.

Yosuke of course was overjoyed to hear that Raine would soon deliver what he thought was his child. Raine knew that once she gave birth he would see that she was unfaithful and thought it better to tell him before she gave birth. But she found it hard to find the right word's to say. She couldn't pull him aside and say “Oh Yosuke by the way my baby isn't your I've been having sex with the Western Lord's son.”

Plus she wanted to wait until they were back home; she wasn't ready to let her family know of her infidelity. Rumiko would be even more disappointed in her and so would her father and she wasn't ready to face their judgement.

Raine ran her fingers through her hair, combing out all the tangles as Yosuke sat behind her doing the same with his own hair. This would be her last bath at her father's house; today they were leaving since she was no longer needed. Raine would've loved to stay longer, but since she would give birth soon she wanted to get home as soon as possible. Himora would have loved for his grandchild to be born there but Raine and Yosuke had issues to work out, namely the baby.

“You okay?” Yosuke asked.

Raine sighed. “I'm fine, just thinking.” She said.

“About what?” Yosuke asked.

“My baby.” Raine purposely did not say “our” baby.

Yosuke wrapped his arms around her stomach and rubbed the swollen vessel carrying what he believed was his.

“We are going to make excellent parents.” He said.

Raine smiled.

Rumiko was in the kitchen cooking lunch for everyone. She had to be sure it was something healthy so that Raine and her baby got the nutrition they needed.

Why did she have to make a special meal for someone who had forgotten about her? Who was Raine to contol the way they ate? A back-stabbing sibling; that's who she was.

For the month or so Raine spent with them, Rumiko hadn't spoken to her unless need be. Rumiko still loved her sister but the fact that she had forgotten them was unforgiveable.

Raine was like Rumiko's mother, she was Rumiko's mother; the woman she looked up to so she would know who to become when she reached that age and now that image of her motherly figure, her beloved sister had been shattered and it hurt.

She tasted the gravy she was making and added a few more spices and some salt and let it boil for a few more minutes. As she waited for the food to finsh she got out some dishes and began to set the table.

“What smells so good?” Kaoru asked qas she walked into the dining room and took a seat at the table.

Rumiko chuckled. “Where's Kiko?” She asked.

“Coming; he's washing up.” Kaoru said.

Just then Raine and Yosuke entered with hair dripping wet.

“Need help?” Raine asked, Rumiko ignored her.

“Let's just sit.” Yosuke said.

Rumiko finished setting the table just as Himora and Kiko walked into the dining room. She smiled at her father, happy and grateful that he was still alive.

Naturally, her father sat at the head of the table and Raine changed seats so she could be sitting on his immediate right. Rumiko instantaneously became angry but calmed down when she remembered that Raine would be leaving that day and she could have her father to herself once she was gone.

Thor watched Raine from his usual postion in his usual tree. He had over heard her conversation with her father when she had returned home from the healer and was overwhelmed with excitement and joy when he heard his child would be born soon.

His parents knew of Raine's pregnancy and his father reluctantly accepted the fact that he was having a child with a human.

Since Raine was going back home soon her would have to follow her which was a bit risky since, although he had the trees to conceal him, Jiro would be in the sky and Raine or her husband could look down and see him.

From where he was he could not only, see her but he could also sense her emotions and at the moment she was very anxious. He had no clue what could cause her to worry so much and as her mate he needed to know. Thor didn't want her to be under any emotional stress, especially now that she was close to delivering.

“Must you leave Raine?” Her heard her father ask.

“You must understand,” she placed her hand caringly on his arm “There are things back home that need to be taken care of. I promise that once things are in order I will return so you can see your grandchild.”

Rumiko scoffed.

“Yeah right.” She said.

“Rumiko your sister is-” Himora was cut off by Raine.

“It's okay chichiue.” Raine said.

Thor could hear the disappointment in Raine's voice. He and his siblings hadn't gone through anything like this so he did not know how she felt, but he wished he could be there for her.

*oOo*

That night, after dinner, Raine and Yosuke started to pack. Youske loved being around Raine's family; they were alot more pleasant than being around Romy that was for sure. He didn't know what Raine meant when she said there were things back home that needed to be taken care of.

He looked up from his packing when he heard Raine hiss in pain. She was holding her stomach and doubled over. He rushed over to her and helped her onto the bed.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

“Im fine.” She said nodding.

With a scowl on her face, Rumiko shoved the container of food into the bag. This was something she flat out refused to do, but Himora had given her a lecture about family and sisterhood and just to shut him up she agreed to pack food for Raine and Yosuke.

“Could you at least do it with a smile on your face?” Himora asked.

Rumiko ignored her father and continued doing the task she was forced to do. She shoved the final bit of food into the bag and tied it in a knot. She pulled it tight to make sure it wasn't in the least bit loose and suddenly stopped.

Her sister was leaving in a while, was this really how she wanted to leave their relationship? She was coming back after all. Rumiko scoffed. Raine wasn't coming back.

*oOo*

Raine called out to Jiro, knowing full well that he was with Thor and would not have gone far.

“Jiro!” She called out again.

The hellcat ran out from behind some bushes and jumped into her arms. He had a note in his mouth; it read: I'll be watching you. It was in Thor's hand writing.

She looked up and saw him standing there, watching her. She blinked and he was gone.

“You ready?” Yosuke asked.

They walked back to the house where everyone was waiting to see them off.

“Sayonara chichiue.” Raine said hugging her father.

“Sayonara my daughter.” Himora said.

She smiled at Kaoru and Kiko and the two gave her a group hug. Lastly was Rumiko.

“I really hoped you could forgive me.” Raine said to her little sister.

She moved to give Rumiko a hug but she backed away.

“I love you all and I will miss you dearly. I promise you I wil return with the baby so that you can see him or her.” Raine said.

She climbed onto Jiro, Yosuke behind her and the bags already packed on.

“Sayonara.” Raine and Yosuke said and flew off.
