Chapter Thirty-two

Shiaka sat by her bedroom window, watching the storm approach. Something wasn't right about today; she could feel it.

She rested her head on Mokuba's stomach when he stood behind her. He placed his hand on her shoulder and she lightly palced hers on top of his.

“You miss your brother, I know. He will come home.” Mokuba said reassuringly.

Mika's worrying was starting to rub off on her daughter. Sometimes Thor left home for three and four months and she never worried; she had the greatest confidence in her brother and his capabilities. But this time he'd been gone for a month, maybe a little over that and she was worried.

Shiaka, Thor and Malique were very close and knew when something was wrong with each other. Today that feeling was the strongest it had ever been.

Lighting's lethal claws scraped against the clouds and sky. Thunder roared in the distance.

Everyone gasped the moment the words left Raine's mouth. That baby sure picked a “good” time to come. Raine whimpered and held her belly as she doubled over in pain. Both Thor and Yosuke ran to her side.

“Are you okay?” Yosuke asked.

“Koiichi, are you okay?” Thor asked.

The two men looked up at each other, envy carved into both of their faces.

“No I'm not okay!” Raine said.

Thor scooped her up and held her in his arms bridal style. He looked into her face, contorted in an expression filled with pain but her eyes told him she was scared; scared of what would happen with Yosuke and what would happen after she gave birth.

“I'll take you home with me, you'll have the baby there.” Thor said.

“No! It can't wait I'll have to have it here.” Raine said through gritted teeth.

“You are not having that child under my roof!” Romy said.

Just as Thor was about to protest Yosuke cut in.

“Mother I told you to shut up. You word means absoultely nothing to me right now.” He said.

Everyone was silent. Raine was shocked, even Yosuke was surprised that he could speak to his mother in such a manner. Romy above all people was the most shocked and in awe. Her son, her Yosuke, the boy that she worked so hard to raise and nurture, the boy that she went through the trouble of searching for evidence to prove that his wife was an adulterous whore for, was rejecting her.

“Yo-Yosuke...” She stammered.

Yosuke sighed. “Raine you can have the baby here,” He turned to Thor “The healer is this way.”

Thor gently laid Raine on the bed and was rushed out of the room by the healer. He stumbled out of the door into the hallway where Yosuke sat on the floor with his head down. Thor could not see his face but he could sense alot of sadness and disappointment and just a bit of anger coming from him. He couldn't help feeling sorry for Raine's husband. After all the man did love her and Thor loved her too, maybe just a little more, and knew that he would have felt the same way if Raine had chosen Yosuke over him.

Thor sat next to Yosuke.

Malique was in the dojo sparring with his mother. Not because he wanted to train but because he wanted to keep her mind off of Thor. Shiaka had told him of her unease and he had told her he felt it too. He too was worried about his older brother. Maybe the sparring was to take his mind and not his mother's off of Thor.

Malique blocked his mother's sword with his own and pushed her backward. As she charged at him his mind went to his brother and for a split second he was distracted; Mika's sword sliced a deep gash in his shoulder.

“Keep your head in the battle.” Mika said.

Malique rolled his shoulders as his wound started to heal.

“Gomen.” He said.

He returned to fighting stance but his mother did not. He relaxed into a normal standing postion and placed his sword in its sheath at his side. Mika walked up to Malique and stroked his cheek every so slowly and gently. Malique sighed and held his mother's hand, moving it away from his face.

“We're all worried.” Mika said.

“I just know something's wrong.” Malique said in a soft voice drowned in worry.

Mika's worry double, almost tripled. Something wrong? Like what? What kind of trouble could her son be in? She bit her bottom lip as all sorts of worst case scenarios flew across her brain. What kind of trouble could Thor be in?

“I didn't intend for things to turn out this way.” Thor said about an hour and some after he left the healer's room. The tension between him and Yosuke had become too much to bear and he felt obliged to apologize to him.

Yosuke scoffed.

“Neither did I.” He said.

“I knew she was married, from the very beginning and I knew I shouldn't have gotten involved with her but I just loved her so much, just from seeing her once, that I couldn't tear myself away from her.” Thor explained.

“I know how you feel. One question though, you two started this affair the week you stayed in my home?” Youske asked.

Thor sighed and shook his head. “Longer than that.” He said.

Yosuke shook his head. “ How could I have not seen that she wasn't happy? How?” He asked himself.

There was a piercing scream coming from inside the healer's room. Thor immediately jumped to his feet. His heart was in his throat. He knew it was normal for a woman to experience pain during child birth, but that scream made his blood go cold. That scream. It scared him.

“She'll be fine.” Yosuke said from the ground.

Thor sighed. “I hope she will.” He said.

Another scream ripped through the air and at this one Romy appeared out of nowhere.

“I see she's having a hard time. That is, after all, expected.” She said.

“Mother give it a rest will you. I know you don't like Raine.” Yosuke said.

Romy said no more, out of fear for Thor. She had no idea how her daughter-in-law was able to snag a male like the prince of the West. It seem unfathomable to her. Either way, at least she was no longer there to bother her her poor Yosuke and cheat and lie to him and betray him.

“Why do you despise my mate?” Thor asked out of the blue.

At this Romy had to tell the truth, now that her son was no longer with her she felt she could openly say what she felt about her now ex-daughter-in-law, but then there was still the prince; should she say what she had to say and risk insulting his royal personage? Yes.

“She cheated on my son in my book that makes her trash and a whore and I don't like -” Romy was cut off by a hard slap to the face.

Raine panted as beads of sweat trickled down her face and the rest of her body. She knew child birth was hard and tiring and took great effort but she was not prepared for all of this. It seemed to her like the baby was bent on staying in her birth canal.

At present the healer was allowing her to regain some of her energy to get ready to push again. She took several deep breath; her body wanting more and more air as if it were starved. This was taking more out of her than she thought it would.

“Okay get ready to push.” The healer said.

Raine rolled her eyes and whimpered.

She clenched her teeth and with what little strength she had and pushed, screaming as the pain was too much for her low tolerance for the feeling to take. Finally the healer told her to stop and Raine collapsed on the pillows behind her.

“It hurts so much.” Raine groaned.

“I know, it will only take a few more.” The healer said. “Let's try this again. Push.”

Raine again mustered up what strength she had and pushed to the best of her abilty. She screamed like a siren, bringing pain and great discomfort to the healer. She didn't even wait for the healer to tell her to stop this time, Raine just all together stopped on her own.

“Come on Raine you can do this.” The healer said.

Raine groaned. She was so tired. Her body just wasn't strong enough to push out the baby anymore. She just wanted to rest; just sleep for a little while. When she woke up she could have the baby. Her eye lids were getting heavy and for the slightest moment Raine fell asleep. Suddenly she felt two hands on her shoulders shaking her awake.

“You can't sleep at a time like this. Now push.” The healer said.

Raine whimpered and moaned and groaned at the thought of pushing again, but it was best she got the baby out as soon as possible so she could rest. She took a few deep breaths, preparing herself to push. Raine clenched her teeth and grabbed the sheets as tight as she could and pushed. She squeezed her hands around the sheets so hard her veins were protruding and she was in so much pain she threw back her head and screamed.

The healer gently held the baby's head as it slipped out of Raine's birth canal. The head was followed by the shoulders, then the torse and then the feet.

“It's a girl.” The healer said holding up the baby for Raine to see.

A smile barely appeared on Raine's face before her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she collapsed on the pillows.
