Chapter 5

“Why didn't you tell me sooner?” Kagome spluttered, pulling her towel around herself tighter.

Sango was this close to bursting out laughing. “I did tell you, it's just that you jumped in too fast!”

“Of all the things you had to-“Sango didn't hear the rest as Kagome had left off muttering something incomprehensible.

Kagome spoke up again “How could you stand fishing in that freezing river?”

“I'm used to it” Sango said simply, still fighting the urge to laugh “I had to go fishing once in a while for my family…”

Kagome's eyes couldn't help but mist over. “I'm sorry…”

“Don't be” Sango waved it off “It's not your fault”

“Still…”

The only sound that could be heard was the crackling fire since they couldn't very well go searching for a village with a water logged miko now, could they?

Silently, Sango suppressed a sigh and decided to rest her back on a tree, closing her eyes for a bit.

Kagome sighed. Things were so tense. If it wasn't bad enough that Sango had lost her family, but now she has too deal with being a guy. The school-girl wouldn't know what to do if her family wasn't there, supporting and encouraging her.

She shivered again as the wind blew around her, making her skin feel colder. Kagome crawled closer to the fire, but even that wouldn't warm her up.

“Are you cold?”

“N-not really” Kagome stuttered “I'm f-fine”

Sango quirked an eyebrow “Come over here.” she patted the spot next to her

“Why?”

“Just come.”

Cautiously, Kagome edged her way towards the taijiya. Finally, she halted to a stop when she was next to her.

Sango put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer

“Eek!”

“What's wrong?”

“I…you…no…why?”

“Well on the inside I'm still a girl, so it's not that bad.”

Kagome couldn't help but agree, and as she fell asleep feeling warm, she couldn't help but feel as if she was betraying someone…

OoO

`Must…suppress…desire…to…hit…self&# 8230;with staff!' Miroku tried. He really did. But his hands itched for his staff. He had just missed Inuyasha again. Shippo poked his head up from behind Miroku's shoulder “What's happened?” Kirara poked her head up from the other shoulder “Meow!”

“What's a guy got to do to catch up to his hanyou friend?!” Miroku very nearly screamed which cause Kirara and Shippo to crouch back down in fear.

“Which way did he go?” he said a bit more politely to the villagers.

“T-that way.” a villager pointed north.

“Thank You.” Miroku took off in a hurry. Then screeched to a halt “Wait a minute…I forgot about the girls!” his face went into a `silent scream' position, palms on the side of his cheek “What'll I do? Sango will kill me! Not that she can kill me, but she can still cause a great deal of harm to this perfect face.” he sighed dramatically, touching his cheek with his left hand gingerly.

OoO

“Did you see a strange looking mist a few days ago?”

“If you mean the fogs of war then, yes I have seen it.”

“Don't you be going all mystical on me!”

“The winds were not in our favour; they blew the mists all across the land.”

“What happened to everyone who breathed it in?” Inuyasha held his own breath.

The old woman looked at him strangely, as if she knew something before replying “Nothing.”

“KEH!” Inuyasha scoffed before leaping off to find yet another village to `terrorise.'

“What a strange looking girl…”

“Not a girl!” a voice shouted faintly from over the horizon.

OoO

“Kagome wake up!” Sango said urgently “We've got to leave now.

“Why?” Kagome yawned rubbing her eyes.

“Someone's coming!” Sango nearly glared at the girl, but restrained from doing so.

“Who?!” Kagome was wide awake now “Are they demons?”

“No. Humans, but I think we're going to get caught up in another battle soon if we don't get out of here” Sango answered, her face a little more serious than intended, “And I, for one, do not want to waste my time with this.”

“But we should help.”

“What can we do?”

Kagome didn't have an answer to that question. So instead, she just stood up and quickly got changed behind a tree.

“Where are we going?”

“Just hold tight.”

Sango grabbed Kagome's hand and picked up her boomerang. “I'm afraid you're going to have to carry your backpack.” Sango said apologetically.

Kagome nodded. Swallowing, she picked up her bag. Now she could feel the thundering of hooves and the ferocious shouting from all directions.

“C'mon!”

Kagome didn't trust herself to speak.

In an instant, Sango scooped Kagome up and held onto her tightly “It'll be faster this way, since I doubt you can catch up when running.” and bounded off.

Kagome just hoped the taijiya couldn't feel her heart thumping. One last thought hit her mind about Sango as she struggled to stay awake.

She's just like Inuyasha.

OoO

Kagome groaned and sat up clutching her head “Argh, I have a really bad headache.” The sentence was aimed at no-one at particular, so it startled her a little when a concerned voice asked her if she was alright.

“How bad?”

“It hurts…”

“Yes Kagome,” Sango rolled her eyes “That's what headaches do to you.”

“Well I was just telling you.”

“Yes well thanks for pointing it out the obvious.”

“What is with you?” Kagome snapped “Why are you being so arrogant?”

“I'm not being arrogant, you're just being stupid.”

“Argh! SIT!”

Nothing happened.

“Kagome…I'm not Inuyasha.”

Kagome was so close to pulled her hair out; she just stomped a few feet away from Sango and decided to sit here instead of there.

Why was her friend being like that? It wasn't at all in her nature…wait a minute, Kagome's eyes widened. It couldn't be that she's…

“Kagome?” Sango whispered “If I did anything bad, I'm sorry. I just don't know what came over me.”

“It's alright.” Kagome said, smiling forcefully. There was no doubt now. She was going to…

OoO

“Inuyasha!” Miroku shouted at the top of his voice “Inuyasha! Wait for me!”

“Huh?” Inuyasha turned around and saw a panting Miroku race after him “Watcha want?”

“Fool!” Miroku cried “I've been chasing after you for the whole day!”

“Well don't call me a fool!” Inuyasha snapped “You're the fool”

“Why?”

“Cause' I never asked you to chase after me.”

“Well I figured that you'd do something stupid, like always.”

“Oh, I'm shocked!” Inuyasha mocked, pretending to look hurt “I never knew you thought that way about me…” Inuyasha thought for a while “Actually, I take that back.”

Miroku grinned “Well now that I've finally caught up, do you want to go back?”

“Huh? Why?”

“Well I've seemed to have left the girls alone…”

“WHAT?!”

OoO

Inuyasha growled “Can't you move any faster?!”

“I'm not a demon, Inuyasha! Half or full.”

“Dammit, it's all your fault!” Inuyasha glared at the monk, who was desperately trying to keep up with the hanyou who was far outpacing him.

“Don't swear, it's not ladylike.”

“I ain't a LADY”

“Not from what I see.” Miroku grinned slyly.

Shippo's head popped up from behind the monk's shoulder “Miroku, you're really perverted. Why do you say things like that?”

“Because Shippo” Miroku said solemnly “I am a-“

“Ecchi monk. He's such a pervert, it drives me crazy. I mean, come on, don't guys like you have better things to do?” Inuyasha sighed, putting one hand on his cheek “I wish that I could rid the world of perverts.” Inuyasha exhaled dramatically.

Miroku's eyebrow shot up to his hairline. Inuyasha just sounded really girly for a moment there…or was it just his imagination?

“Don't stare.”

“Huh?” Miroku looked confused.

“Don't stare…it makes me feel…self-conscious.”

And if Miroku's eyebrows could rise any higher, they would have already fallen off “Inuyasha…? Are you…okay?”

“Feh! Why wouldn't I be?”

Miroku dazedly shook his head. Maybe it had been his imagination.

OoO

“MIROKU!” Sango shouted “INUYASHA! WHERE THE HELL OF YOU GUYS BEEN?!”

Both the monk and the hanyou stumbled back. Sango had always been scary as a girl, but now as a guy, she seemed to radiate flames.

“W-well I was chasing Inuyasha and he wouldn't wait for m-“

“Don't you dare blame it on me!” Inuyasha glared at Miroku.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome stared at Inuyasha, arms crossed and tapping her foot “I think you have some explaining to do…”

“Uh oh…”
