The Untouchables
Inu Yasha was standing in the doorway of the shrine. One hand was on the door and the other holding Buyo. The moon was glistening off his silver hair. His eyes were blood shot, his face was flushed. His breathing was a little heavy. Kagome also noticed that he was dirty.
"Inu Yasha? Are you ok?"
"I fell," pausing to hold up the cat, Inu Yasha continued "over this."
"Oh" was all Kagome could manage to say. It took all the strength she had left not to laugh at the look on Inu Yasha's face as he held up the cat.
Inu Yasha descended the stairs, heading for Kagome. When he reached her, he handed her the cat. Buyo meowed as he was being passed along.
Kagome was nervous. She wasn't sure what to say to Inu Yasha. Her legs felt weak all of the sudden. So she sat down on the last step. Petting the now purring cat, as she watched Inu Yasha begin to fidget.
"Sango said--"
"Taking orders from your new lover?" Kagome couldn't help herself. The words, the anger and the hurt was something she had no control over. When she saw Inu Yasha flinch, she immediately regretted the words. Yet she wasn't able to bring herself to apologize for them.
"Please Kagome, just listen." There was so much pain in Inu Yasha's voice that Kagome was compelled to keep quiet. "Sango said that I should just tell you everything. But I don't know how to put it." Inu Yasha started pacing. "I was in the hut while Kaede started making the medicine for Miroku. It smelled really bad. It was making it hard for me to see straight. Plus I kept seeing things, strange things... Any way, I had heard you come into the hut. I heard you say something about taking a bath. Kaede said she thought something was wrong with you. Then her and Shippou left." Inu Yasha stopped and looked at Kagome. "I got worried, so I went to look for you. When I saw someone lying beside the pond, I thought it was you! I swear!"
Inu Yasha's voice was pleading with Kagome to understand, but she remained silent. Waiting for him to continue. "When I walked over to see if you were ok, I fell." Inu Yasha's face turned red. He couldn't meet Kagome's questioning eyes anymore. Instead he was staring at her shoes.
"Sango must have been dreaming. She thought I was Miroku. She kissed me and we started to--But I swear we stopped before we did anything!!!" Inu Yasha was looking at Kagome again. She could see the pain in his eyes. "Then you came along. You know the rest."
"Oh," was all Kagome could say. She looked down at the cat. The intensity in Inu Yasha's eyes was too much for her to handle. She had no doubt that he was telling the truth. His entire body told you he was. It was begging her to understand.
When he sighed and looked up at the sky, Kagome couldn't say anything. "Sango said to tell you everything. So I told you what happened between me and her." Inu Yasha started to fidget again. He looked at Kagome, hoping that he didn't need to continue. When he saw that she wasn't going to say anything, he sat on the ground before her, looking at his feet.
"I loved Kikyo." At this Kagome took a sharp breath. Inu Yasha could hear her pain in that one action. "I loved her. Apart of me always will. She loved me so much that she gave her life for me." His voice seemed thick with emotions. "I don't know if I can ever forget her, because of that. Because she loved me, she is dead. Because of me she is walking around stealing souls." A cynical smirk crept across his face. "In a way she is more of a demon then me.""
All Kagome could do was set there and listen. She wanted to wrap her arms around him and tell him it wasn't his fault. Tell him that it would be ok, but she knew that he needed to talk more. He needs to say what he has been thinking and feeling, just as much as she needs to hear it.
The smile left Inu Yasha's face, as he continued. "Because of me her life has become a hell. I can't turn my back on her!" Inu Yasha looked up at Kagome, his eyes full of tears. "But I don't want to lose you Kagome! I want to be with you!" The unshed tears started to travel down his cheeks. "I love you, Kagome! I couldn't bear to lose you!"
Kagome froze. She couldn't believe her ears. She wasn't sure she had actually heard him say what she thought he had said. "Inu Yasha?" Disbelief was laced in her voice. "What did you just say?"
Inu Yasha's face showed just as much surprise. He hadn't realized what he had said, until just now. "I love you, Kagome."
Smiling, Kagome replied "I love you too."
Shocked, Inu Yasha froze for just a moment. After what she said sunk in he started to lean toward her, bringing his lips to Kagome's. His tongue began tracing a pattern on her lips, begging for entrance. Parting her lips slightly, she allowed it to him.
Inu Yasha, wasting no time, slipped his tongue between her lips. Exploring the inside of her mouth. He noticed faintly that she smelled like cheery blossoms.
When lack of oxygen made him pull back, he saw that her breathing had gotten quicker. Her lips were slightly swollen and her cheeks were flushed.
Between gasps of air, Inu Yasha managed to say "Don't ever leave me again."
"Never again." Kagome replied breathlessly.
Inu Yasha started to lean forward and kiss Kagome again, but stopped when Buyo meowed in protest. The poor cat was caught in the middle of them, and he didn't like it one bit.
Kagome's entire body began shake. She brought her hands up to cover her mouth. Her eyes were shut tightly; tears began to pool at the corners. "Are you alright?" Inu Yasha said worriedly. "Kagome?"
Kagome couldn't hold it in any longer. She began to giggle. When she opened her eyes and saw Inu Yasha, sitting mere inches away, the giggles turned into full out laughter. He was sitting there still covered in dirt, with a confused puppy dog look on his face.
"Kagome?"
"Ju-just give me a minute." Kagome said trying to stop laughing. Buyo, still siting on Kagome's lap, looked up at her and meowed. He even looked worried by Kagome's actions.
After a couple minutes past, Kagome was able to control her laughter. Inu Yasha, worried and confused, said: "Kagome. You ok?"
"I'm fine." Inu Yasha gave her a doubtful look. "Really, I am. I just couldn't help but think about something my mother had said. She told me to be like a flower."
"A flower? I don't understand." Inu Yasha's brow was creased as he thought. "She wants you to be something people step on easily? Sometimes rip them apart just to smell them? Why would you ever want to be like something so weak?"
Shaking her head, Kagome started laughing again. "You're right they are weak, when you think of them like that." Putting Buyo on the ground, Kagome stood up. "It's a long story. I'll explain someday." She looked at Inu Yasha and smiled. "Let's go."
"Go? Where?"
Kagome's smile grew. "Back to your era."
