The worth of a friend

Chapter 3

 

Two days later…

 

Walking along the wide dusty road in front of them the mingled group of both Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru's packs kept pace, keeping their ears and eyes open with the two Inu brothers taking the lead, the females and two children in the middle, and Miroku, Au Un and Jaken taking up the rear. Said monk was busy smiling as he watched the tree females entertain Rin and Shippo with eye spy.

 

“Ok Lady Hoshiko, its your turn.” Rin informed happily from her position between her and Kagome.

 

Chuckling quietly the pink haired girl looked around her for a target, until her eyes instantly alighted on a long mass of white fur in front of her. Smirking Hoshiko started. “I spy with my little eye, something white and fluffy!” Smiling to herself she looked over at her sister and Sango, both girls giving her knowing looks as the kids started rattling off their answers, some of which didn't even match the description she had given them.

 

Then with a squeal of joy Rin started to tug on her hand that grasped her own. “I know Lady Hoshiko! Lord Sesshoumaru's tail is white and fluffy. Is that it?”

 

Giggling quietly to herself she caught said taiyoukai looking slightly over his shoulder at her, the eye she could see raised slightly as fore mentioned tail started to twitch. Pretending she hadn't noticed him she started to zone out a little as Rin and Shippo ran back to Jaken to torture the little imp. Unconsciously Hoshiko raised a hand to her chest and felt the small scabbed over cut where Keade had removed the shard.

 

Why is he helping me? From what Inuyasha and Kagome have told me of him he's a self-centred jerk, who doesn't give a damn about us `weak humans'. Humph! I'll show him just how un-weak I am.

 

Too preoccupied with her own thoughts she didn't notice that the group had come to a halt until she walked into the back of someone. With an `oomph' of surprise and stumbling back to stop falling on her ass Hoshiko looked up and glared into twin pools of cold golden eyes that looked back at her blankly. And before she could stop herself and realising whom she'd smacked into she let her tongue fly.

 

“Watch where you're going jerk!” She growled as her body went rigid in her ire. Balling up her fists she planted them on her hips in a `don't fuck with me' pose.

 

Quirking a single brow at the raving female in front of him Sesshoumaru just looked down at her as he replied coolly. “I think it is you who should watch where they are going.” He smirked inwardly though when she issued another menacing growl, and he wondered silently if she even knew how animal she was sounding.

 

Interesting.

 

Spluttering in indignation as her words were thrown back at her Hoshiko took a menacing step forward with some scathing remark on the tip of her tongue when a child's scream cut through the air. Snapping her head around she started to run over to Rin and Shippo who were stood near Au Un as a large snake youkai appeared out of the tree line beside the road they were on. Stopping in front them she unsheathed her dagger and let it grow in length as she heard and saw the Inu brothers attack the beast. Seeing two glowing crystals in its mouth she gasped as she realised what they were.

 

“THERE'S TWO JEWEL SHARDS IN ITS MOUTH!” Her and her sister shouted together in union. They both locked eyes though as the truth of the situation dawned on them; Hoshiko could see the shards just like Kagome could.

 

“LOOK OUT LADY HOSHIKO!”

 

Snapping her attention to the front she let out an `eep' before back flipping out of the way of the tail that swept over the ground where she had just been only moments before. With an angered growl she leaped with her weapon raised, intending to slice off the youkai's tail but hit nothing but air. Landing in a crouch where she had been before the attack she had no time to leap out of the way again as the snakes tail made another swish at her. Bracing for the impact with her moon dagger out in front of her she grunted as its tail collided with her body, the blade taking most of the blow as she skidded back and slammed into a tree. Groaning in pain and shaking the stars from her head she had time to see that both brothers had their hands full dodging blasts of venom and the snakes snapping jaws, and that both Kagome, Miroku and even Jaken were destroying small snake youkai that had surrounded them. Pushing away from the tree she rolled out of the way again as its tail passed overhead, and with a growl of annoyance she clutched her transformed dagger tighter. Feeling it pulse strongly in her hands she looked at it as the glow around the blade brightened. Narrowing her eyes to slits she held it over head as the power in her reacted to the blade, her own white aura crackling around it and mixing with the silver-ish moon aura as well. Seeing an opportunity when Sesshoumaru punched the beast in the jaw she cried out her attack.

 

“LIGHT BLAST!”

 

Swinging the blade down in front of her she watched transfixed as energy ripped across the ground in front of her and sliced into the youkai she'd aimed at, cutting its body in half. With a pain filled screech the beast fell to the ground at their feet. Standing where she was she watched as Inuyasha cut out the two jewel shards before turning to look at her with an awed expression on his face. Looking at the two brothers she blushed deeply as it all came rushing back to her, and sheathing her dagger again she turned away and headed over to the other group, happily noting that the smaller snakes had all been dealt with already.

 

Smiling sheepishly at the others who smiled warmly in return she stood beside her sister as Inuyasha handed over their catch of the day. Looking at the two purified shards in her hand she shivered as she felt eyes boring into her back and resisted the urge to look over her shoulder at the taiyoukai that she knew was behind her.

 

“Your powers are growing stronger Lady Hoshiko, as well as your skill with your weapon.” Miroku applauded to break the sudden silence that hung over them.

 

Looking up at the sky Inuyasha turned to the others. “Come on guys, let's carry on for a while longer then we'll set up camp. I can smell water nearby.” Turning on his heal he took up the lead again and knew with the mention of water the girls would follow.

 

Back on their travels again the group continued on walking for a few more hours, everyone staying silent, as the attack had broken the happy mood they were in earlier. Cresting a hill the all looked down it at the vast clear lake at the bottom, with the forest surrounding it on most sides. As soon as they had made camp not far from its shores the females of the group wandered off to bathe, Inuyasha and Shippo both keeping an eye on Miroku to stop him from following in his attempt to catch them bathing. Scowling at the lecherous monk Sesshoumaru stood in front of him and glared.

 

“While this Sesshoumaru is here you will refrain from your lecherous ways. Understood monk?” He growled, and to show he was serious he brought one hand up into view and cracked his knuckles, letting his claws gleam.

 

Gulping in fright all the monk could manage was a quick nod before he scurried off and found a comfortable spot before the fire to rest and wait for his turn to clean up.

Lying back after his meal Inuyasha quickly found his head in Kagome's lap. About to lift it from its position he quickly laid still though when one of her hands started to rub his ears. Shivering at the sensations his eyes popped open and darted about the group, noting that both Rin and Shippo were already tucked in bed and fast asleep, and the monk and demon slayer were engaged in quiet conversation. Looking towards Sesshoumaru sat lent against a tree he quirked a brow as he noticed his attention was diverted towards the shore of the lake, where Hoshiko had gone for a walk. Not really wanting to leave in case the girl wanted either of them he nearly jumped when Kagome's lips brushed along the edge of one of his ears.

 

“Lets go someplace a little more…private Inu.” She breathed softly but quietly.

 

Looking again around the camp he answered. “But what about Hoshiko?”

 

Smiling Kagome again petted his cute ears. “She'll be fine Inu. Sesshoumaru won't let anything happen to her. Besides, don't you want your answer to that question you asked me a while ago, or have you forgotten?”

 

FLASHBACK

 

Sat in a tree together Inuyasha held Kagome tightly in his arms as he watched over the rest of their friends sleep, the wounds from the fierce battle with the band of seven and the brief one with Naraku before he disappeared still present, causing the band of travellers to set up camp earlier than expected. Letting the tears fall silently as he looked back on how close, again, he had nearly lost the woman he loved Inuyasha came to a decision, and turning Kagome around to face his he cupped her head in his hands.

 

“Kagome…I…have something I need to tell you…before its too late.” Inuyasha started, swallowing the lump in his throat as he felt her gentle hands brushing away his tears.

 

“I'm listening Inu.” She replied softly, using the pet name that she only said when they were alone together.

 

“Over the past two years we've travelled together, I've come to realise just how much you mean to me Kagome.” Inuyasha continued. Taking a deep breath he pushed on. “Your not just a damn shard detector, and your more than just a friend. I've fallen for you Kagome. You've took my heart and cleaned it of all the crap that has happened in my miserable life, and showed me that I can love and be happy again.” Bringing her face closer to his he brushed a chaste kiss across her parted lips before adding. “I love you Lady Kagome, with all my heart and soul.”

 

Gasping in shock and delight Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and intensified the little kiss to a full out tongue war. Pulling away for air she smiled as tears slipped down her face.

 

“Oh god Inu. I love you too! I'm just so glad and happy that you finally told me.”

 

Letting out a quiet laugh Inuyasha hugged her happily as he rained kisses all over her face. “I guess that only leaves me one last thing to ask of you love. Will you be my mate?”

 

Knowing what he was saying meant from what Sango had told her Kagome started to bite her lip. “I love you Inu, more than life itself, but what you're asking me is such a big thing. Will you let me think on it?”

 

Not exactly disappointed with her answer Inuyasha smiled and nodded before drawing her close and wrapping her in a hug again. “Take as much time as you want love. I'll be here for you waiting.”

 

END FLASHBACK

 

Realisation finally dawning on him Inuyasha quickly rolled to his feet before gathering Kagome into his arms and bounding off into the forest, not knowing that behind him Sesshoumaru had left his vigil and was headed in Hoshiko's direction.

 

Running through the trees the hanyou didn't stop until he was sure the others wouldn't here them. Placing his load on her feet he stood there patiently waiting, which wasn't very long, since as soon as Kagome had touched the ground she spun and launched herself at Inuyasha, her arms wrapping around his neck as her lips crashed passionately against his. Nearly stumbling the shocked Inu wrapped his own arms around her waist as his tongue battled with hers. Pulling reluctantly away for air he looked deeply into her eyes and saw the love and happiness shining brightly there.

 

“What the hell was that for?” Inuyasha gruffed out playfully as he flashed her a cocky smirk. Giggling Kagome reached up with a hand and petted his ears and returned his smirk when she saw his eyes roll back at the sensations from it.

 

“That was my answer baka!” She chided softly, and breathing hotly against his lips she added. “Make me your mate Inu, please.”

 

Not needing to be asked twice Inuyasha swept her off of her feet and lowered her to the ground, his lips locked tightly with hers as his hands started to wonder the length of her toned body. Moving his lips down from hers he licked his way down her neck as both of his hands dived under her shirt and cupped her bra clad breasts. Squeezing and tweaking them he straddled her thighs as he watched her head rock from side to side from his treatment, her quiet moans driving him on. Wanting to feel her skin under his questing fingers he pulled her shirt up and over her head, tossing it to the side while Kagome quickly sat up to remove her bra least he tear through it with his claws. Before he could push her back down again her trembling hands were already working on the ties to his fire rat kimono, and once undone she quickly pulled it out of his hakama and let her lover shrug out of it and the white under shirt.

Groaning as he felt her latch onto one of his nipples it quickly reminded him he had yet to do the same. Pushing her gently onto her back again he licked and nipped around each orb, before he latched onto one nipple and sucked.

 

“Inu…” Kagome gasped out as she arched her back up into him, both her hands locking onto his head where they each found an ear and started to rub.

 

Growling at the pleasure from the simple act Inuyasha quickly switched to the other, and when he was satisfied they had got enough attention he kissed down her stomach, only stopping to lave her belly button before his hands pulled down her skirt and panties. Pushing her thighs apart with his hands his nose quickly dived into her curls at the centre, his growl increasing as her aroused scent surrounded him and making him go dizzy with its intensity. Sticking out his tongue he swirled it around her entrance before plunging it in, then moved it up to her clit where he flicked it rapidly over the swollen little nub.

 

“Oh god Inu!” Kagome suddenly cried out as she found herself spiralling into her first climax.

 

Lapping up her juices that poured out of her Inuyasha looked up from where he was and smirked proudly at the flushed look on his mate to be face. Sitting up he slowly and sensually undid the tie of his hakama, giving Kagome time to look and watch as he stood and let the garment fall to his feet. Kicking it to the side he let one hand fist his throbbing erection and gave it a brief tug. He chuckled though when he saw Kagome's eyes widen and darken at the move and dropping to his knees he slinked over her like the predator he was.

Pleased with her answer Inuyasha pillowed her head under his hands and wrapped them in her hair. Locking his lips with hers again he moved his hips and felt the head of his dick enter her. Teasing her with just that he smirked when he heard and felt her mewl of longing, and with a quick snap of his hips he had buried himself to the hilt, catching her little cry at the brief pain he had caused by taking her virginity.

 

I'm sorry my love, but you'll only feel pleasure from now on. He promised silently, never taking his lips from hers as he started to rock gently against her.

 

Pulling away slightly when he felt her arms and legs wrap around him he buried his face into the crook of her neck as he pulled more of himself in and out of her slick, tight passage, causing him to hiss and moan when he felt her squeeze her inner muscles around his length. Hearing her own moans of pleasure he picked up the pace as he panted harshly against her neck. Feeling himself climbing to his release and knowing they needed to do it together for the mating to work Inuyasha pulled his bottom half away slightly as one hand snaked between them.

 

“Kagome…bite my neck…when you cum…ok?” Inuyasha managed to growl out as he held her head closer to his neck with the other hand.

 

Feeling her nod in response he went back to licking a spot on her shoulder that had gotten his attention since before they had started. Banging faster and harder into her he set his teeth as he felt the familiar sensation of his balls tightening, and with a growling roar Inuyasha sank his teeth into her skin, his mind vaguely noting that hers did the same as her channel clamped down on his member lick a vice, signalling her second climax. Still pumping his hips slowly to hold on to the high he was feeling Inuyasha swallowed the rest of Kagome's blood in his mouth before licking his mark to close it. Growling contentedly he rolled over onto his back taking his new mate with him. Still imbedded inside her he reached out for his fire rat haori that was nearby and draped it over their bodies. Kissing the top of Kagome's head Inuyasha smiled and held her close as he felt his eyelids begin to droop.

 

“I love you Kagome…my mate.” He informed her sleepily.

 

“Love you too mate.” Kagome replied before falling into a deep sleep.

Ignoring the departure of Inuyasha and the miko Sesshoumaru followed the path he'd seen Hoshiko take not long ago. Standing in the shadow of the trees he watched her as she sat on a rock that sank into the lake, her legs bare and already in the cool water. Taking in the odd cloths she wore the taiyoukai had to admit she looked very good in them. The tight sleeveless top she wore showed off her breasts and flat stomach, and the shorts showing her long toned legs.

 

What would it feel like to have those long…wait, what the hell am I think! She's a human…with nice big breasts that I could easily…arg! There I go again. I feel like an insolent pup with his first crush!

 

Shaking the disturbing thoughts from his head the taiyoukai was alarmed when he saw Hoshiko was nowhere to be seen. Coming out from his hiding place and heading to the spot he last saw her his eyes grew wide when he found her clothes on top of the stone she'd been sat on. Hearing a splash and a frightened gasp of alarm his head snapped up and his eyes nearly bugged out of his head as he took in the lovely sight before him.

There not more than a few feet in the water stood and very wet, very naked and very mad Hoshiko, who had her arms covering most of her chest that her long pink hair hadn't while the other half of her was still submerged under water.

 

“Not only are you a jerk Sess-hou-maru but a peeping one at that!” Hoshiko cried in outrage as she glared frostily up at him. Growling she could feel her powers rising again and without looking down knew that the once calm water around her was beginning to froth and swirl around her form.

 

He's worse than Miroku is!

 

Looking from him to her clothes then back and forth again she bared her teeth at him and took a step closer as rocks from the floor of the lake at her feet rose from the water and hovered around her, most of them the sizes of baseballs or smaller.

 

“How about being a gentleman and about face and leave!”

 

Snapping out of the daze her nakedness had caused Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes at her and glared back, ignoring the visual threat that hovered around her. “Do not presume to give this Sesshoumaru orders wench.” Uh oh, bad move Sessy. A little voice in his head replied, just before the first of the rock missiles shot towards him.

 

Dodging the first two or three the taiyoukai growled angrily before unleashing his poison whip and using it on the others that hurtled towards him. Feeling something hard smack his left cheek as the last of the rocks fell he brought a hand up to his abused cheek and growled again when he smelt his own blood. And sure enough when his hand came away two of his fingers were smeared with the dark red stuff.

 

She drew my blood…a low, weakling human female dared attack me and drew blood.

 

I wouldn't call her weak Sessy. And she had a good enough reason for attacking. That voice was back again. Snarling again he tried to ignore the voice as he glared at the female who was still standing in the water, with a little shocked expression on her face.

 

Who the fuck are you and why won't you leave me be? He silently asked the voice as he took a threatening step closer.

 

Baka! I'm your beast. And as your beast I advise you to mate that female! She challenged you and drew first blood. So all you can do is answer her challenge.

 

Stilling at that piece of information Sesshoumaru's eyes widened as he finally realised the truth. Shit! I've been stalking her like any potential mate would. Growling loudly once more the ruffled taiyoukai quickly about faced and flew back into the trees, his mind to much of a muddle to work out what to do with the latest mess he had gotten himself in. So intent on his self-musings he totally ignored the female behind him, who stayed where she was looking at him oddly.

 

Blinking her eyes rapidly Hoshiko continued to stare off in the direction Sesshoumaru had ran off in. Quickly realising she was alone again and that she was getting cold she pulled herself out of the water and sat on the rock beside her clothes.

 

What the hell was up with him! One minute he was about to tear me asunder the next…he got this weird look on his face and left. Shaking her head at the strange taiyoukai she made a mental note to not get in his way for a while, and pulling on her clothes again she headed back to camp to find that both her sister and Inuyasha were nowhere to be seen, and that the others were all fast asleep. Knowing what her dear Kagome was up to as she remembered her telling of her decision on becoming the hanyou's mate while they bathed earlier Hoshiko said a silent `go girl' as she crawled into her sleeping bad. No sooner had her head touched her pillow she was out like a light, with thoughts and dreams of a certain youkai filling her head.
