A/N: This is my first Inuyasha songfic. It's an alternate pairing. Sesshoumaru/Kikyou. This fic is a "what if" fic taking place before Kikyou's death. This fic is to the song "These Arms" by All-4-One. Enjoy your reading!

Kikyou walked slowly through the darkened woods. Nighttime had taken it's toll on the nature. The moon had come out hours ago, the stars slowly dotting the sky. The darkness enwrapped her frame, but she didn't feel afraid. She stepped out of the dark forest to a cliff overlooking a soft lake in a valley below, the silver moonlight reflected in the water. Kikyou lifted her head to face the silver moon in the navy blue sky. She stood still as a statue, listening, reaching deep into herself, hoping to hear what she wanted to. All of a sudden, she heard soft footsteps behind her. "Hello." She whispered not looking back. "I was hoping to find you here." His deep voice replied. His silver hair was lifted in the wind, as was her raven black hair. "Kikyou, we need to set a few things straight." She turned to the youkai who had approached her. Kikyou slowly made her way over to him, and put her hands on his chest and leaned her head onto it as well. "Don't say a word, Sesshoumaru. Just hold me."

Sesshoumaru looked down to the human miko leaning on him. This human wasn't afraid of him. He didn't hate this human. His arms started to wrap around the miko, but he hesitated. Kikyou noticed and spoke softly to him, never opening her eyes, nor taking herself away from him. "Sesshoumaru, why do you hesitate? Is it because I am human, and you a great youkai lord? Or is it because of Inuyasha?" He looked to the moonlight and the scene before them. "No, that's not it at all." He finally wrapped his strong arms around her slender shoulders. He was actually surrendering to this human? He actually thought so highly of her, that he would lay down and roll over for her. No one, demon or human, especially human, had ever made him feel that way. He sniffed her hair delicately, as to take her scent in permanently. She smelled of bellflowers and incense. Sesshoumaru stroked her hair, as he held her in his arms in the darkness of night.

Kikyou finally looked up to Sesshoumaru's amber eyes. Oh how they looked like Inuyasha's. She touched the black crescent on his forehead. Sesshoumaru was lost in Kikyou's mahogany eyes. He did let out a growl of sorts once he felt Kikyou's small fingers running through his hair. Oh, that drove him crazy with desire when she did that. It made him want her more. Little did he know, when he let out his little growls of desire, Kikyou went wild with passion as well. She finally ran her hand down his arm and rested on his hand. Taking it as a cue, he laced his fingers with hers. She was surprised by his sudden affection, but she liked it, and hoped it continued to happen.

Sesshoumaru wanted nothing more in the world than to please this human in his arms. "What is it you desire, Kikyou? I want to make you happy. I'll give you anything on this Earth." Kikyou smiled to the youkai. "I only want you to care for me, watch me from afar. Love me even when I am gone. Never let me go." He smiled. "I promise you that. I will always be right here. I will love you now, tomorrow and the day after. I'll even love you fifty years from now." Kikyou smiled when she heard this. "So, you do love me Sesshoumaru?" He bowed his head, eyes closed, smiling. "Yes, my beautiful miko. I want you to be by my side, be my mate." Kikyou pulled away from him. Sesshoumaru looked confused as she walked to the edge of the cliff. "What? What did I say?" She looked to the lake. "Sesshoumaru, you know it's forbidden. I'm the protector of the jewel of four souls. What would my village say if they found out I had a youkai as my mate?"

Sesshoumaru approached her, but not too close so he wouldn't knock her off the edge of the cliff. "Does it matter? Leave them. Come live with me in the forest. Be my lady. Rule the western lands with me. Mother my children. Leave them and that silly jewel behind." Kikyou looked to Sesshoumaru. He looked even bigger with the moonlight hitting his body. "Sesshoumaru, the jewel is not silly and you know that as well as the next person. I can't just leave them. Children look up to me, Sesshoumaru. Would I be setting a good example running away? And what about my sister?" Sesshoumaru let out a silent growl. Humans and their damn relationships. "I will not take you from your duty, Kikyou."

Kikyou got up from her place at the edge of the cliff. "I'm so sorry Sesshoumaru, maybe soon the jewel will be destroyed, and I can ask to leave. But until then, let arrange to meet here, every night." The youkai took the human in his arms. "Yes. Remember I will love you always no matter where you are." Kikyou stood on her toes and kissed the youkai lord she loved so much. He didn't react at first, but soon he kissed back. She walked past him back into the deep black forest, his eyes never leaving her figure until he could no longer see her. "Goodnight, my Kikyou. Until we meet again." He then proceeded to leap off the cliff with extreme grace.

A month later, Sesshoumaru felt the wind shifting slightly different. He smelled the air. He could smell many things at once. Smoke from a fire, the stench of his brother, the scent of Kikyou, and blood. He saw the smoke from miles away. Running with the wind, he ran toward Kikyou's village. He came to a halt on a ledge overlooking the village. There he saw the fire from where the smoke had come. Inuyasha, his brother, was pinned to a tree by an arrow. Kikyou's arrow no doubt. Sesshoumaru looked closer, and saw Kikyou standing poised with her bow. He could see blood covering her back. She fell to the ground, and he almost leapt down there to protect her, but the villagers soon gathered around her, and he couldn't see her. He waited for her to rise to her feet, but he heard the screech of a young girl. "SISTER KIKYOU!" The next thing he saw was her body being carried away by the villagers. "Kikyou...." He bowed his head in respect to his lost lover. He glared once more to her village as the villagers carried her limp body up the shrine stairs. "Kikyou, no matter where you are, I'll never stop loving you or break your heart." From that moment, he vowed to never be so vulnerable toward a human being again, and his hate flared for Inuyasha. But, he remembered his promise. "Yes ,Kikyou, I'll be right here, waiting..."
