Chapter Two

On the other side of the club, Kagome had her gaze intently fixed on the silver-haired god that she had just laid eyes upon. To say he was attractive was a complete understatement; Kagome herself couldn't find the words to describe how perfect he looked at moment.

`Get a hold of yourself, Kagome!' she thought. `You're acting like a giddy schoolgirl who's just had her first crush. Besides, he isn't that good-looking…who am I kidding, he's gorgeous! But still…'

***********

Kagome and her friend, Ayame, had decided to have a girl's night out before school began. As soon as they entered the club, however, Ayame quickly disappeared in the dance floor, mingling with the hordes of people and dancing with every cute guy she could get a hold of. Kagome hadn't expected anything less; Ayame always had an admiration for men, and men always had an admiration for her because she was so openly flirtatious.

Left alone in the club, Kagome decided to make the best of her time there. A song she liked was being played at the moment, and Kagome instantly lost herself to the music as she closed her eyes and danced to its rhythm.

That was when she felt it. A pair of eyes fixed upon her. She didn't understand how she knew someone was staring at her, she just knew. When she opened her eyes to inspect where it was coming from, she wasn't at all prepared for the image that greeted her eyes.

A man with lengthy silver locks and the most enchanting amber eyes sat there staring at her intently. She immediately froze in her step, incapable of any action except reciprocating his stare. Molten amber clashed with chocolate brown as her emotions ran wild. She didn't know how long they were locked in their heated gaze, nor did she care, because at that very moment, all that mattered to her was this man.

Unfortunately, their staring session came to an abrupt end when a woman started waving her hand up and down the man's face, apparently trying to gain his undivided attention. She seemed to have regained her mobility for the time being, so she quickly made her way to the nearest table and sat down, too flustered to do anything else. She needed some time to regain her composure after what just happened. Her eyes, however, refused to leave their fixture on the silver-haired god on the other side of the club. Even worse, her thoughts were focused on him as well.

`Oh Kami, he's hot!'

`What I wouldn't give to touch his hair!'

`Is he single?'

`Was that woman his girlfriend?'

A sudden rush of envy made its way through Kagome's body, but it gradually subsided to make room for her crestfallen mood.

`Why should I care if he has a girlfriend or not?' Kagome thought. `It's not like I'm dating anymore. Who needs men anyway?'

The sullen look imprinted on her face betrayed her strong resolve, and it appeared the rest of her night wouldn't be so great after all.

***********

So here she was, sitting alone and conspicuously staring at the silver-haired god across the room, her thoughts and emotions still running wild.

Ayame chose that exact moment to make herself known again.

“There you are. What's with depressing look?” she asked, noticing her friend was acting out of character from her usual perky persona.

“It's nothing, I'm fine, really,” Kagome replied, her gaze still fixed on the man that had intrigued her so.

Ayame followed her line vision and barely contained her squeal when she realized what, or rather, who she was staring at.

“Oh Kami, Kagome! He's so hot!” she all but shouted. “Go talk to him, Kagome!”

“What? No way.”

“If you won't go talk to him, I guess I will.”

Kagome reached out to grab Ayame's arm before she could escape.

“Please, don't,” she pleaded.

“You know, Kagome, you can't do this forever.”

With that said, Ayame made her way back to the dance floor, though she made no visible attempt to talk to the silver-haired god across the room much to Kagome's relief.

Kagome carefully thought over what Ayame had said.

“You can't do this forever, Kagome.”

She supposed Ayame was right, but she quite understand Kagome's situation as well as she thought she did. Kagome wasn't inclined to be in a relationship again to say the least; she herself wasn't quite sure of what to look for in a man after her first two sub-par relationships. She had thought about what went wrong, tried to understand what she did wrong, but she never found an answer. Truth be told, she hadn't done anything wrong at all; Kagome had a knack for attracting men, albeit the wrong ones at times. Rather than try to find the right one, she had just given up entirely.

Kagome spared a glance across the room to try and find the man that had her so riled up. It seemed he had left the bar when she had been absorbed in her thoughts, and he was nowhere to be seen. Kagome reasonably figured that she almost certainly wouldn't see him ever again, not that it made her feel any better.

`He's just another guy,' she thought.

As much as she wanted to believe her reasoning, something in the back of her mind told her differently. It didn't matter anyway, the man was gone, and there wasn't anything she could do about it.

`This is going to be a long night,' she thought, slowly making her way to the bar.

She needed a drink.
