Chapter Seven
At noon the very next day, Sango made her way to Inuyasha's apartment determined to wake him up before he was tardy to yet another engagement. For as long as she had known Inuyasha, he was rarely punctual for anything. She didn't comprehend how anyone could sleep so much and still be tired. Then again, Sango was always a morning person, so she figured she couldn't quite relate. Regardless, Inuyasha needed to wake up. Reaching his apartment door at the far end of the hallway, she began pounding on the door unceremoniously.
“Inuyasha, get your ass out of bed or you'll regret it!” Sango shouted, continually pounding on his door.
Sango was expecting to hear Inuyasha stumble out of bed, shouting obscenities at her for waking him up this early. She was expecting him to tear open his door wearing nothing more than a pair of boxers and a scowl on his face. What she wasn't expecting, however, was to find Inuyasha open the door gently, fully dressed and ready to go, a nervous look adorning his face.
`Well, this is a first,' Sango thought, mentally snickering. `This girl must really be having an effect on him. He never wakes up early for anything.'
“Are we just going to stand here all day?” Inuyasha asked impatiently.
“It looks like you're eager to see a certain someone, ne?” Sango teased, unable to resist pushing his buttons.
“Shut it, Sango. Can we just go?”
“So impatient, Yash.” Sango laughed aloud. “Come on.”
Inuyasha and Sango made their way to the parking lot of his apartment complex.
“This way,” Sango said. “I brought my car.”
“We're taking mine,” Inuyasha replied, leaving no room for argument.
Sango had half expected he'd say that. He only drove his car when it was absolutely necessary or when he wanted to impress someone. Apparently, his reason for doing so now was the latter of the two.
Inuyasha had an incredibly wealthy family. His father practically owned all the major businesses in Tokyo, and his brother, who was only six years his elder, was in charge of the most prestigious law firm in all of Tokyo. Inuyasha never really embraced his affluence; he felt that wealth was a luxury that he had been afforded, but he knew it wasn't necessary for him to enjoy life. So when he was given a Ferrari - personally handcrafted and delivered from Italy - on his eighteenth birthday, he was reluctant to accept it. As it was, he rarely drove it for fear of attracting too much attention. Then again, it was situations like these he was thankful he had something he could show off.
“You know, Kagome doesn't seem like the type of girl who would care about your monetary status,” Sango insightfully said. “But I'm glad you're trying to make a good first impression.”
Inuyasha carefully considered what Sango had said, and he hoped she was right. He didn't know what made him so self-conscious. He didn't like showing off his wealth, wouldn't let it define him. More importantly, he didn't want others liking him simply because he was loaded. He certainly didn't need a repeat of the Kikyo fiasco. Sango had been right to a certain extent; he did want to impress Kagome. Maybe he thought he needed to live up to her expectations. Or maybe, he had simply needed to reassure himself that he was good enough for this woman, this goddess.

“You look fine!” Ayame said, reassuring a very anxious Kagome.
“Do you really think so?” Kagome asked for what seemed like the hundredth time. “Do you think I look better in a black tank top?”
“The one you're wearing now is fine, Kagome. I'm sure Inuyasha will like you no matter what you're wearing, so you don't have to worry.”
“I hope you're right.”
Kagome had been awake since 9 AM; she just couldn't sleep anymore. She spent over an hour rummaging her closet for possible outfits to wear, but in the end, she still couldn't find anything that suited her tastes. When Ayame arrived and saw that Kagome still wasn't ready, she helped her pick out a suitable outfit to wear. It wasn't anything sophisticated; Kagome simply donned a pink tank top and a blue denim skirt that stopped about mid-thigh, accentuating her long, silky legs.
“If you're this paranoid now, I can't imagine how you'll act before your first date with him,” Ayame said.
That remark got Kagome thinking. Technically, they were just having a simple get-together today, nothing too fancy. And yet, Kagome had been overly nervous about seeing Inuyasha. Ayame was right, how would she react before her and Inuyasha went on their first date?
`Yeah right,' Kagome thought sadly. `Like he would ever ask me out.'
In all actuality, Kagome really hoped that he might ask her out one day, better sooner than later. She found herself thinking about him constantly, whether she did it consciously or subconsciously. One moment she'd be focused on solving complex mathematical equations for homework; the next, she'd be wondering how it would feel to have Inuyasha's hands running all over her body and touching her in places that made her blush. More often than not, she welcomed her lecherous thoughts about Inuyasha. He was the only man she'd ever had thought about that way, and that got her awfully frightened. Should she be having these thoughts about him so soon? She wasn't sure, but whenever her mind decided to create images of her and Inuyasha doing something naughty, she enjoyed them thoroughly.
The sound of her doorbell ringing disrupted Kagome's thoughts.
“That must be them!” Ayame said enthusiastically.

As Inuyasha was speeding through the streets of Tokyo, Sango gave him some useful advice.
“Hey, Yash,” Sango said, trying to get his attention.
“Yeah?” Inuyasha replied.
“Try to act a little more refined when you're near Kagome.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I mean, refrain from the profanity and the name-calling. I don't think Kagome would find that appealing. And, please, don't forget to mind your manners.”
“Feh.”
As Inuyasha drove down her block, he admired the scenery. He had to admit, she lived in a nice neighborhood; everything seemed so serene.
`So, she lives next to a shrine, eh?' Inuyasha thought. `Pretty neat place.”
`I'll be right back,” Sango said, getting out of the car and climbing the steps of Kagome's home.
When Sango reached Kagome's doorstep, she rang her bell twice. The door promptly opened and Kagome and Ayame stepped out, both looking elegant.
“Ready to go?” Sango asked.
“Yeah,” Kagome replied, looking around, trying to find something, or someone. “Where's Inuyasha?”
Sango laughed. “Eager to see him, aren't you?”
“A little,” Kagome shyly admitted, glad that Inuyasha wasn't there to hear it.
“He's in the car. Come on, lots to do and so little time to do it.”
As the three girls made their way down the steps, Inuyasha had his gaze focused on Kagome. It seemed that every time he saw her, she became impossibly more beautiful. She wore just a simple pink tank top and a denim skirt, but he figured she'd probably look nice in anything.
`She'd probably look nice in nothing, too,' Inuyasha thought, inwardly smiling. `Wait, what the hell? Where did that come from?'
When the doors of his Ferrari opened, Sango and Ayame quickly scooted into the back seat and slammed the door shut, leaving the Kagome to ride shotgun. Kagome didn't openly object, but she seemed rather uncomfortable taking a seat next to Inuyasha.
“Hi, Inuyasha,” she greeted.
“Kagome,” he coolly acknowledged.
Truth be told, when Kagome saw that Inuyasha owned such a lavish car, it had taken her by surprise. She hadn't the slightest clue, until now, that Inuyasha was rich. He seemed like a simple fellow to her.
`I hope he's not one of those snobby rich-guy types,' she thought. `Then again, he doesn't seem like one.'
“Where are we headed?” Inuyasha asked once they were all settled in.
“Amusement park!” Sango and Ayame both screamed.
With a destination set, Inuyasha sped off. Kagome let out a slight yelp when his car was set in motion. She didn't know cars could move this fast. Inuyasha noticed her distress and slowed down a bit. He tried to initiate some sort of intelligible conversation but couldn't find the right words to do so. He soon discovered that words weren't needed at the moment, so he opted to ride in comfortable silence, sparing a glance or two in Kagome's direction when she wasn't looking his way.
Kagome felt uneasy because of the awkward silence between her and Inuyasha. She had always been a very loquacious person; she simply liked to talk to people. But like Inuyasha, she soon realized that a comfortable silence was quite enjoyable. She chanced a few glances at Inuyasha while he was driving. And boy did he look good enough to eat. He donned a black T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans, with sunglasses sitting neatly on the top of his head. She found herself mentally undressing him, wondering what it would feel like to run her hands down his chest. The more she stared at him, the more her salacious thoughts ran wild. She soon realized that Inuyasha was also gazing at her through his peripheral vision, so she quickly averted her gaze.
In the backseat, Sango and Ayame were subtly whispering to each other, trying not to break up the Inuyasha and Kagome's little “moment.” Sango and Ayame were actually enjoying their little display of affection; it was cute. It was painfully obvious to Sango and Ayame that Inuyasha and Kagome clearly belonged together; the problem was simply getting them to realize it was well.
“We're here,” Inuyasha announced.
***********
Kagome hadn't been to an amusement park in ages. Being there now made her feel young again, when the world wasn't so complicated and she could just be carefree. Better yet, Inuyasha was with her, and that made the experience so much more pleasant. Somewhere along the way, however, she lost sight of Sango and Ayame. She figured they had planned to ditch her all along, leaving her alone with Inuyasha. Not that she minded of course, she was rather enjoying his company.
“Oh, that's so cute!” Kagome exclaimed, referring to a stuffed dog with white fur that was currently sitting on a rack. It was one of many to be won as prizes. The game was simple: shoot water into the designated target to inflate the balloon until it popped.
“You want to give it a shot?” Inuyasha asked.
“All right, but I'm not very good.”
“That's okay.”
On her first try, Kagome could barely hit the target. She felt so ashamed of herself because her balloon had hardly inflated at all. Giving Inuyasha a depressing look, she said, “I stink at this.”
Inuyasha laughed. “Here, let me show you. You just weren't holding the water gun right.”
Inuyasha paid for a second try and offered to help Kagome with her aim. He positioned himself directly behind her and placed his head lightly on her left shoulder, using his hands to steady hers while aiming for the target. Apparently, he wasn't aware of the effect that simple action had on Kagome, for she instantly felt nervous because of his proximity. However, Kagome noticed how gentle he was, his hands softly guiding hers as she pressed the trigger to shoot water into the target. It was then she realized she craved his touch, needed him close to her as much as possible.
It wasn't long before her balloon popped and the shrill of a bell ringing was heard, indicating she had won.
“Hey, I won!” Kagome shouted happily, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
“Feh. Without my help, your balloon would have still been flat,” Inuyasha teased.
“Hmph!” Kagome pouted mockingly.
Of course, she chose the big, fluffy, white stuffed dog as her prize.
***********
“Nuh uh, no way!” Kagome cried.
“Oh come on, Kagome!” Inuyasha pleaded. “It's not as high as it looks! Besides, you get a rush of adrenaline when you're up there.”
“You can try and persuade me all you want, but I'm still not riding on that rollercoaster,” Kagome replied, intent on not giving in to his adorable little pout. “It looks unsafe.”
“Are you scared?” Inuyasha said, humor evident in his voice.
“What? No!”
“I think you are.”
“I am not scared!”
“Scaredy cat.”
“Fine! I'll go.”
“About time you gave in.”
Kagome was indeed deathly afraid of rollercoaster rides. Heights alone petrified her, but combine that with speed, and boy did Kagome get frightened. Inuyasha could sense the fear rolling off her as they were waiting on line; it was so thick it was almost tangible. That didn't sit well with him at all. The last thing he wanted was for her to have a negative experience, especially one he was responsible for.
“Look, if you don't want to do this, I'll understand,” Inuyasha sympathized.
“No, I want to do this. Can't be scared forever, right?” Kagome answered, unsure of where her sudden burst of confidence originated from.
“That's the spirit.”
They sat in the last car of the rollercoaster because Inuyasha thought it would be less frightening for Kagome's first time if they weren't near the front. As the rollercoaster began to move, Inuyasha gave her some last words of encouragement.
“Don't worry, you're perfectly safe,” he said. “If you get scared, just close your eyes, but it's more fun if you keep them open and lift your arms in the air.”
As the rollercoaster picked up speed, Kagome began to get anxious. She tried to keep her eyes open, but when the rollercoaster was at full speed and coming towards a lengthy drop, she forced them shut.
`Okay, don't panic, don't panic,' she thought.
She felt Inuyasha nudging her on the arm, and she instinctively opened her eyes to meet his. He was smiling brightly at her, and she couldn't help but reciprocate his smile. Inuyasha's right hand reached out for her left as he took her hand in his, reassuring her and giving her some of his courage. Kagome suddenly realized they were rapidly descending on the drop. She couldn't believe it; Inuyasha had been right. What an adrenaline rush! As the rollercoaster ascended for its final descent, Kagome felt like she was flying. She looked over to Inuyasha and noticed that he was still smiling his million-dollar smile, the look in his eyes saying all that was needed to be said at the moment. There was nowhere she'd rather be and nothing she'd rather be doing than being there with Inuyasha. As the rollercoaster came to a stop, Kagome barely noticed.
“That wasn't so bad, was it?” Inuyasha asked.
Kagome shook her head. “Let's do it again!”
