Chapter Eight
After an afternoon of fun and games, Inuyasha, Kagome, Sango, and Ayame all met up near the front entrance of the amusement park. Time passed by so quickly; Kagome wished today wouldn't have to end. And for her sake, it didn't. Sango and Ayame eagerly suggested they go clubbing again, and that made Kagome smile. Every second she spent with Inuyasha was special, even when they weren't actually doing anything. His presence alone had that kind of effect.
***********
When they arrived at the club, Kagome realized it was indeed the same one she had been to a mere two days ago when she had first laid eyes on Inuyasha. There weren't many people inside the club given that it was a Tuesday night. Kagome was grateful they didn't have to wait on line; her legs were exhausted. The music wasn't as loud as she had remembered, but Kagome didn't know if she should be thankful or disappointed; she had really enjoyed the music the last time she was here. Feeling a bit thirsty, she decided to go get a drink with Sango and Ayame, only to find them missing…again. When she looked around the spacious club once more, Kagome realized they weren't exactly missing, they were simply preoccupied. Ayame was happily dancing with a guy Kagome didn't recognize; for that matter, Ayame probably didn't know him either, but that never stopped her before. Sango was engaged in conversation with another man Kagome didn't recognize. Was Kagome the only women in the club that wasn't guy-hunting?
“You want to go get a drink?” Inuyasha asked, as if sensing she wanted a drink.
“Yeah,” Kagome replied.
While they were at the bar, Kagome couldn't help but notice a number of females eyeing Inuyasha lustfully as the passed by. She instinctively sat closer to him, hoping they would get the message. She didn't know when she had become so possessive of Inuyasha, but she sure as hell wasn't going let those skanks get their hands on him if she had anything to say about it. Inuyasha inwardly smiled when he realized what Kagome was trying to do. He was aware of the stares he was receiving, but as usual, he disregarded them. Besides, Kagome was far more gorgeous than those women anyway.
`If only she knew…” Inuyasha thought longingly. Looking out onto the dance floor, he realized it wasn't as crowded as it had been two days ago. This was his chance to show Kagome that she needn't worry about other females; she was the only woman on his mind and had been ever since he saw her at this very place.
“Dance with me,” he said, his tone of voice leaving little room for argument. He wasn't expecting Kagome to refuse him regardless, so he gently took her hand and led her to the center of the dance floor.
Kagome hadn't expected Inuyasha to ask her to dance, but she certainly welcomed the invitation. Come to think of it, she would have danced with him had he asked her two days ago even before she knew who he was. Kagome didn't recognize the song that was playing at the moment, but it was a slow song with a rhythmic melody that she thoroughly enjoyed. Inuyasha carefully placed his hands on her slim waist as he gently pulled her closer to his body. With a sudden burst of confidence, Kagome wrapped her arms securely around his neck, swaying with him to the beat of the music. She hadn't felt this content in a long time, and being in Inuyasha's arms suddenly made her feel warm all over. Kagome stared into his molten amber eyes and lost herself in his gaze. The intensity of his eyes and the way he looked at her made her feel like she was the only woman that mattered to him, and it was a feeling she never wanted to relinquish.
It suddenly registered to Kagome just how close she was to Inuyasha, and that made her a tad bit nervous. She hadn't gotten this close to a man since she had been with Kouga, but then again, Inuyasha was someone special; she just knew it. As her anxiety alleviated, another feeling took its place: lust. Being this close to Inuyasha did wonders to her body. He was holding her so gently, and the simple touch of his hand on her waist sent jolts of desire through her body. Her hands released their hold on his neck, traveled down his chest, and rested on his waist as well. She placed her head under his chin and breathed in his scent, and it reminded her of the forest. Inuyasha buried his nose in her hair, and he, too, breathed in Kagome's scent of strawberries and vanilla. They stayed in that position until the song ended, completely content with being in each other's arms.
The next song had a noticeably faster rhythm. Inuyasha released his hold on Kagome and turned her around so that her back faced him. He placed his hands on her waist once more and began moving in sync with the beat of the music. His hips grinded with Kagome's, and his body burned with desire. He didn't know what compelled him to act so boldly when he and Kagome had just gotten to know each other, but he simply couldn't resist. Kagome didn't seem to have any complaints; in fact, she was enjoying it, too. Her hands held on to his as they continued their salacious movements, too captivated by each other to care about anything else at the moment. When the lyrics of the song faded away, Inuyasha and Kagome were still lost in their own little reverie.
“Sorry to interrupt you two, but…” Sango started, almost appearing out of thin air.
“What do you want?” Inuyasha asked harshly, apparently very annoyed.
“…we have to go. It's getting late, and we all have class tomorrow,” she finished.
Inuyasha sighed in frustration. He had been enjoying Kagome's company when Sango had to interrupt.
“Sango's right,” Kagome said. “We should get going.”
Inuyasha couldn't find the heart to argue with Kagome.
“All right, let's go,” he said, his voiced laced with despondency.
***********
Inuyasha didn't want this night to end. It seemed too good to be true, but alas, all good things must come to an end. While he was driving, Inuyasha was pondering whether or not he should ask Kagome out on a formal date. Was it too soon? It sure didn't feel like it. It seemed like he had known her for a lifetime. The way they got along was proof of that.
Inuyasha dropped Ayame off first and then headed for Kagome's house. He walked her to her doorstep and tried to convey the thoughts that had been bugging him all night long.
“You want to do this again sometime?” Inuyasha managed to get out. “Just you and me.”
“Are you asking me out on a date?” Kagome asked, getting her hopes up.
“Absolutely.”
Kagome was so happy she could barely contain herself. However, she managed to give him a reply.
“Is Saturday okay with you?”
“Saturday it is. See you tomorrow, Kagome.”
Inuyasha then gave her a quick kiss on her left cheek and walked down the steps of her home. When he entered his car, Sango practically jumped on him.
“Did you ask her out?” she asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
“And how you know if I did or didn't?” he countered.
“So you did! About time, Yash.”
“It's only been two days since I first saw her!”
“Two days too long, in my opinion. If I were you, I would have asked her out the moment I saw her.”
“She could have had a boyfriend!”
“Well, it's a good thing she doesn't, or you'd be heartbroken.”
“Feh.”
***********
As Inuyasha drove off into the night, Kagome was still standing on her doorstep, touching the cheek that Inuyasha had kissed. She didn't understand why such a simple gesture had her so flustered. It was just an innocent kiss on the cheek for Kami's sake! Kagome was acting like she'd never been kissed before, and that certainly wasn't the case. She opted not to think about it at the moment; she was getting cold.
Kagome made her way up to her bedroom and threw herself on the bed, admiring the prize she had won earlier in the day. In a way, the fluffy, white stuffed dog reminded her of Inuyasha. Perhaps that was the reason why it had caught her eye when they were at the amusement park. As her mind went over the events of the day, she couldn't help but smile. She hadn't had so much fun in a long time. She overcame her fear of rollercoaster rides, won a fluffy, white stuffed dog, and enjoyed herself at the club. The best part of it all was that she had done those things with Inuyasha by her side. True, it had only been two days since she'd first seen him, but Kagome knew she was falling for him hard.
Kagome reminisced about the way Inuyasha had held her while they were dancing. He had been so gentle with her, yet his touch drove her mad with lust. Kagome wasn't one to act on her desires, but Inuyasha might just be an exception. She didn't know if Inuyasha felt the same way about her. She could only hope he did because she wasn't sure how long she could go without his touch before she went crazy.
`Well, at least I have a date with him on Saturday,' Kagome thought joyfully. `We'll see how things go from there.'
With that thought in mind, Kagome prepared herself for sleep. She held her fluffy, white stuffed dog close to her as she slipped under the covers. As she dozed off, thoughts of Inuyasha entered her dreams.
***********
When Inuyasha finally reached his apartment complex, Sango was fast asleep. He carried her up into his apartment, intent on letting her stay the night. Sango awoke shortly after Inuyasha had placed her on his bed, perplexed as to where she was. When she inspected her surroundings a little more closely, she realized she was in Inuyasha's room.
“Why am I here?” Sango asked Inuyasha once he entered his bedroom to check on her.
“You fell asleep, so I carried you up here.” Inuyasha answered.
“I appreciate the gesture, but I have to get going.”
“Oh no, you don't. You're staying here tonight.”
“What? Why?”
“Because it's getting late and it's too dark outside for you to drive.”
“I can manage.”
“I'm not going to let you drive home in these conditions. Just stay here for tonight.”
“Where will you sleep?”
“On the couch.”
“That's absurd. Get in.”
Inuyasha thought about it for a moment and reluctantly relented. He climbed into the bed with her and created some distance between himself and Sango. It had been a while since they had been this close, but the proximity wasn't entirely unwanted. Sango missed the days when she and Inuyasha used to cuddle together in bed, missed the times they had laughed and cried together, missed having someone to talk to. Perhaps she had just been lonely. In any case, Sango felt glad that Inuyasha had asked Kagome out. He deserved to be happy, even if it wasn't with her. Besides, she had long since moved on.
“So, where are you taking Kagome for you first date?” Sango asked, suddenly not sleepy anymore.
“I don't know yet. I was hoping you'd have a few suggestions.” Inuyasha replied, trying to stifle a yawn.
Sango did have a few suggestions. In fact, she had a few too many. While Sango was going over all the possibilities, Inuyasha reflected on the events of the day. Specifically, his thoughts were centered on Kagome. He knew he was falling for her, but he wasn't expecting it to happen so soon. These two days had been the most eventful two days of his life. So much had happened in so little time. For starters, he had just started college yesterday. But more importantly, he had met Kagome, the woman he couldn't' stop thinking about, the woman who had captivated him so.
“Are you listening to me, Yash?” Sango asked.
Inuyasha laughed. “Nope.”
“You jerk!”
“Goodnight to you too, Sango.”
Inuyasha instantly fell sleep, his dreams centering on the brown-eyed goddess named Kagome.
