Chapter One - Where it began to change..

:::Present:::

< /u>
14 year old Kagome lay on her queen sized bed, listening to a mix CD a friend burned for her. Laying there, she thought of everything that had happened in the past.
:::Kagome's Memory:::

She could remember always bugging her mom about her dad, "Mo-om! Why isn't dad here? When's he going to come see me?" her mother always smiled and told her she wasn't sure. Kagome cried for her father a lot - Everyone had a dad at home, so why wasn't hers there? Instead she had her mother's boyfriend. He wasn't all bad; he and mom just fought a lot - over the stupidest of things. Kagome thought about how she rarely ever saw her dad, when he came to visit, he brought his wife - Rhonda. For three years Kagome went without hearing from her dad, then on her 10th birthday she came home from school to find a card from her father. It read;
Kagome, Happy Birthday! Here is a $20.00 gift card for you to buy you something at Wal-Mart If you would like to spend sometime with us around Thanksgiving or Christmas we can come and pick you up - call me at (not giving number) or (another number) We would like to see you over the holidays!
Love,
BJ & Rhonda!

She saw her dad more often for about a year, then he wasn't really part of her life - a card for holiday's occasionally. Kagome and her mother lived with her grandparents for as long as she could remember, maybe a year or so in other houses in the same town. Like most girls her age, she was a Girl Scout with her younger cousins; they had a lot of parties - skating, bowling, mall sleepovers, ect. - She remembered one night after a skating party her cousins mother - Angel - brought them back to her house saying it'd be best if Kagome stay there for the night. Her mom was out of town at her boyfriend's house and her grandfather was too drunk.
:::Present:::

K agome wiped the tear from her cheek, still hating these memories.. the beginning of the break-up of her immediate family...

:::Kagome's Memory:::

Angel insisted that Kagome stay at the house with the girls - Yuki, Ayume, and Eri - Along with Yuki's friend Ami. Giving up, Kagome stayed the night. The kids, since they were all girls, all slept on an air mattress in the girls' room. All except Kagome, there wasn't enough room so she sided with sleeping on the floor next to the air mattress. Kagome quickly fell asleep. Only to be startled awake by the bitter coldness of the early morning, instinctively Kagome reached for the blankets, only to see a shadow standing over her, whom had their hands beneath her panties frightened she looked up into the face of the shadow, to her surprise, it was William - Angel's husband. Kagome was lost for thoughts, she wanted to wake the girls, scream for Angel! But before she could William spoke, "This is going to be our little secret, okay?" he said as he caressed her beneath her panties. Kagome only nodded, not trusting herself to speak. He removed his hand and said "No one will know about this, will they?" she shook her head, "If they do, I'll deny it, and who do you think they'll believe? A kid like you or me?" he tossed her blanket at her and walked out of the room. Kagome wrapped the blanket tightly around herself and laid back down, tears streaming down her face.

:::Present:::

Kagome wiped the remaining tears from her cheeks and put her journal away. Hopping off her bed she waked to the kitchen to get a glass of water, glancing at the clock, she grumbled "Man .. It's already 2:00am" taking her water with her, she walked outside, into the backyard to lay on the picnic table, looking at the stars she wondered if she'd ever have a normal life, she laughed at that thought "Normal? Ha! What's normal?" "Obviously not you" said a voice from the trees near the table, Kagome sat up, looking around she whispered, "Who's there? Show yourself" "Demanding this early in the morning are we? Looks like someone needs to go to bed" Inuyasha said as he jumped down from the tree he was perched in. "How long have you been up there?" "Long enough to see you crying in your room. What's up?" Kagome huffed and turned away from him, "It's nothing" she said before taking a drink of water. "It's gotta be a pretty big nothing to make you cry. C'mon, you can tell me." He said as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Kagome sighed and leaned back against him "... I've just had a lot on my mind .. Memories that I need to make dormant are showing their ugly faces.. So I'm writing them in my journal." She said with a shrug. Inuyasha looked at her skeptically, "At two in the morning? I know you better than that, what happened?" She sighed again and shook her head, "I kept having the same dream - nightmare over and over again.. It's haunting me! So I thought writing it down would help make it go away .." A tear slipped down her cheek, Inuyasha wiped it away and held her close "Mind telling me?" he whispered in her ear. "Maybe I can help keep it away." she shook her head and mumbled into his chest, "You can read it.. I... I don't feel like talking about it.." Inuyasha nodded and rubbed her back as she cried silently into his chest. Picking her up bridal style, he leaped up into her open window. Sitting on her bed with her on his lap he waited for her to retrieve her journal, when he noticed she'd cried herself to sleep. "Keh, crazy wench, staying up till early morning, she's goin' to make herself sick from lack of sleep." he said, smiling slightly at the young woman in his arms. Looking around he took in the sight of her room, it wasn't what he expected, there were pictures of friends and family members hanging on the walls, two dressers, one appearing to be storage, the other Kagome's. He looked behind him at the head board, it had a shelf with a book lying on it, he picked it up, reading the front cover, "Kagome's Journal, huh? Well she DID say I could read it." He looked down at the still sleeping Kagome, who was now curled up as much as possible with her had resting on Inuyasha's upper thigh. He opened the Journal, intent on reading its contents.
