Disclaimer: No, I don't own Inuyasha but I do have a rather attractive key chain and a really pretty poster of Sesshoumaru my Korean friend bought me.

`Jekyll and Hyde'

Kagura stood in front of her mirror watching the brush cascade down her hair as she ran it through. She had auditions in a half hour and Inuyasha didn't want to come with her. It was understandable, those things could be boring if you weren't doing anything but she did have Miroku coming with her.

She applied eyeliner, singing along with her music.
“Looking for a savior beneath these dirty streets,” She sung out loud. It was strange she thought looking at herself. Her eyes were a mix of color that everyone swore looked red. Such a unique color and on top of that her best friend's eyes complimented hers. He had brilliant amber, like yellow, they were almost beast like.

She'd known him for years and they still chilled her when he stared at her. The effect he had on some women and had absolutely no idea how attractive he was. She shook her head, pulling her hair back in a loose bun; then again she never really realized how pretty she could be.  Her face was round but her cheekbones sharp and her eyes were deep. She never thought she was beautiful, only unique and as Yasha had put `mysterious'.

She smiled at herself, grabbed her script and keys and walked out to her room. “Mom, I'm gonna go to auditions, k?”

Her mom nodded, pulling cookies out of the oven. “All right, have fun. What time do you think you'll be back?”

“Maybe ten. I have to take Miroku out to dinner afterward for trying out.” She kissed her mom on the cheek. “Buh-bye.” Her mom waved good-bye as Kagura went out the door toward her car. That woman, Kohana, sadly was not her real mother. Her real mom left her alone at the age of four in their apartment and disappeared. For a while, she held on to some hope that her mom would come back for her but that was crushed when she overheard the social worker talking to her foster mother. Her real mother, Mika, left behind a note stating that she never meant have a child and that is was just too much responsibility. It finished with her name is Kagura. All her dreams of finding her mom were gone out the window at the age of eight.

“Bitch.” She said out loud as she started up her `99 red mustang. Miroku only lived a few blocks away so the drive was quick. She turned up Tori Amos, as she drove, singing along with the words. “When you gonna make up your mind? When you gonna love you as much as I do.” Her all time favorite song played loudly as she pulled up to Miroku's house. She blared her horn and Miroku came out the door at the sound.

Sitting down in the passenger seat, he made a face. “What?” Kagura asked innocently.

“Come on, Kag, you know I only let you listen to Tori Amos when you are upset.” He complained reaching to turn down the radio.

She smacked his hand away, “Just this once. I need it to get my voice warmed up.”

He groaned, “Fine but on the way back I get to pick the music and restaurant we eat at.”

She shot him a look, “Only if it's not Hooters.”

“Kag, you think you know me so well. I would never suggest that. I was thinking more like Olive Garden or something.”

She rolled her eyes, “Sure you were.” She said as she slammed the gas, making Miroku fly back. “Get your seat belt on.” She demanded and he laughed buckling the belt.

`Had a northern lad, well not exactly had. He moved like the sunset, God who painted that. First he loved my accent How his knees could bend I thought we'd be ok…' Played on the stereo as they drove toward the theater building.

A fair amount of people filled the seats and the stage was empty. Kagura took the sign-up sheet from the table at the entrance. She wrote her name and handed it to Miroku who did the same. They took their seats near the front when a quiet looking boy, well maybe he was a man came to the stage.

“Hello, everyone. I'm glad so many people could make it.” He said looking around. He kept wringing his hands together. “My name is Houjo.”

`Good' Kagura thought, `He's nervous, he'll be easier to impress.'

“Well I was thinking to start this out, we'll do a little improv. I'm going to try something a little different than most directors. Um… you two, come up here,” He said indicating to Kagura and Miroku. “What are your names?”

“This is Kagura and I'm Miroku.” He said as they stepped onto the stage.

“Ok, you Kagura, you're his girlfriend and he's getting ready to go out with his friends but he's really dressing up. You're afraid that he's cheating on you even though he assures that they are just going to a nice place.” He stepped off the stage and took a seat in the front row. “All right, I'm taking a chance with you two. I want conflict and emotion.”

Kagura closed her eyes for a moment to register this, when she opened them Miroku was making as if he was fixing his jacket. She started working on the dishes. “Where did you say you were going, honey?” She asked.

“Just to a restaurant to celebrate Jack's promotion.” He said nonchalantly.

“Just you guys?”

“Yes, Kagura, I told you this already.” He answered still indifferent.

“I know, I'm sorry. I just…” She paused squeezing her eyes shut. “Miroku, you wouldn't lie to me, would you?” She asked meekly.

“Kagura, you know I am honest with you.” He said coming behind her and kissing her cheek.

She turned to him, her voice shaking, “Then why did I find lipstick on the collar of you turtle neck?” He stepped away from her and she turned her back on him, “And it's not a color I wear.”

“Love, I can explain.”

She turned back to him, almost screaming, “No you can't explain. You've already done this once. Why are you doing this to me again? I trusted you.” She ran toward him grabbing his face in her hands, a hysterical look playing across her face. “I love you.”

“Oh, Kagura. I do love you.” he said softly putting his hands on her arms, “ I never meant to hurt you.”

“But you did, Miroku, you did.”

He brought his arms around her, rocking her and leaned down to kiss the tears that formed on her face. “I am sorry for all that I have done to you, my love. Your story is so tragic.” He kissed her mouth, dipping her back, tightening their grips around each other.

“Bravo.” Houjo announced. Applause brought them out of their passionate kiss. “That was better than I expected. Very nice.” Miroku grinned down at her still dipping her back.
“I can not believe you just did that.” She mumbled so no one else would hear.

“That's the beautiful thing. I knew you would play along because you take the stage way too seriously.” He smirked, wiping lipstick from his mouth.

“Someone should castrate you.” She said grinning, making Miroku chuckle as he released her.

Not hearing their conversation, Houjo continued. “That is how two people need to interact on stage. When there is a passionate love between them; nothing can affect the powerful desire they have for each other. For all we know these two people could be complete strangers or actual lovers.” He moved around as he talked. “You don't know and that's what makes this beautiful.

“You see, this musical is about passion. Purely passion. The passion of lovers, the passion of discovery, and the passion of finding out who you are in the world.” He explained waving his hands around excitedly. “But anyway, let's begin. We'll do the singing portion first. I'll go along the list and I want each person to either sing a solo or a duet if you can find somebody here who knows it.” He rustled through a couple of papers. “Haru, would like to go first?”

“Sure thing.” A voice rang out somewhere in the audience. He came to the stage and sang `Any Dream Will Do', from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. It was pretty good. People continued to go down the list, Kagura mostly ignored till a girl named Kagome came up.

She sang `I Dreamed A Dream' from Les Miserables. Kagura leaned over to Miroku, “She's good.”

“Real good.” He nodded.

She shot him a pointed look, “Not that good.”

“She looks like you.”

“No, she doesn't.”

“Yes, she does.”

She gave him a dirty look this time. “Shut up.”

Kagura's name came up soon after Kagome finished. They decided to sing `All I Ask of You.' From Phantom so her and Miroku could both get done together.

Miroku came behind Kagura singing over her shoulder. “No more talk of darkness. Forget these wide-eyed fears. I'm here, nothing can harm you, my words will warm and calm you. Let me be your freedom, let daylight dry your tears. I'm here, with you, beside you, to guard you and to guide you . . .”

Kagura turned to him and caressed his face, “Say you love me every waking moment, turn my head with talk of summertime. Say you need me with you, now and always. Promise me that all you say is true that's all I ask of you . . .”

They finished the song and there was a polite applause at the end. There were two people after them and then they were done. “Ok, everybody, that's all for tonight. There is another audition tomorrow night and then we'll do call backs on Wednesday. I'll post those people on the door tomorrow night. Good bye everyone.”

Noise filled the auditorium when he walked off the stage. “Hungry?” Kagura asked.

“Oh god, yes, I'm starving.”

Good, let's go.” She said grinning, leading the way out to her car. She hit the unlock button, “So where do you want to go?”

“Well if we can't go to Hooters,” He contemplated stroking his chin, “Then let's try Quidoba.”

Kagura nodded her consent. Turning toward downtown, the roads were clear of people. Apparently nine `o'clock on a Monday is not a busy time. Kagura pulled into the driveway of Quidoba and they got out. Kagura grabbed her script to go through while they ate. Getting their burritos, they took a stool table near the back.

“So what do you think of our chances?” Miroku asked making conversation.

“Um . . .” Kagura thought picking at her food. “Talent was decent, nothing really stood out at me.”

“What about that girl, Kagome?” Miroku asked, a mischievous grin playing on his face.

“I know you are trying to antagonize me but it's not going to work.”

“All right, all right. I was wrong anyway, she looks more like Kikyo.”

“No, Miroku, she doesn't. She smiled and she looks happy. That's nothing like Kikyo.'

“Kagura, did Inuyasha ever tell you how much he thought you looked like Kikyo?”

“What? No, he never mentioned it.” Kagura said surprised.

“Yea, he told me that he first talked to her because she looked so much like you. Then when he got to know her, he realized how much like you she was.”

“What are you saying, Miroku? That I was just used after Kikyo broke up with him?” Kagura said, anger filling her voice.

“No, Kagura, he picked her because of you.” He said calmly, putting his hand on hers. “You were both so much alike. You both have such poignant eyes, like you are both missing something. Only she was sad and you were and sometimes still are bitter.”

“I'm not like her.”

“Kagura, I'm not saying you are. Stop being defensive, ok?” He sat back, staring at her. “I know what happened between you and Inuyasha. Physically at least but what happened to you mentally?”

“Miroku, what do you want me to say?” She said quietly, “Do you want me to tell you that Inuyasha and I had sex because we are in love?” She shook her head. “Yes, we love each other but not like that, at least I don't think so.”

“Maybe you should talk to him about it. Ask how he feels about you now.” He said shrugging.

“I don't know, Miroku. I really don't think I want our relationship that way. I like him being my best friend. I'm not ready for things to change.” She said as she picked up her garbage.

Miroku rose with her, “If that's what you want, Kag, then that's what's important.”

They walked out the door in silence; Miroku opened the door of the car for her. His words bothered her because she always wondered about that night. Was she being used? Apparently that wasn't the case. Knowing Kagura wasn't going to say much more, he reached to turn the radio on. He turned Tori up and Kagura stared at him.

“What?” He asked innocently.

She smiled, feeling better. “Nothing.” A comfortable silence fell over as Tori sang sadly. They pulled up to Miroku's house and he climbed out, “Come on, walk me to the door.”

She shook her head and followed him to the door. He pretended to twiddle his fingers, “I had a really good time. I hope to see you again.”

“Miroku, shut up.” She said laughing.

He smiled, “Kagura, don't doubt yourself. You are the strongest woman I know.” She looked down and she brushed hair that had fallen from her ponytail out of her face. “And the most beautiful.” He hugged her and kissed her cheek. “Good night, Kagura.”

“Good night, Miroku.” She said quietly as she walked back to her car. She drove home thinking of Inuyasha and Kikyo and herself.
