InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Thoughtful Misconceptions ❯ Once Upon A Dream ( Chapter 6 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Disclaimer: No, I don't own Inuyasha but I do have a rather attractive key chain and a really pretty poster of Sesshoumaru my Korean friend bought me.
Author's Note: I'm not going to be able to update till Monday so I thought I'd post a chapter that's a little bit longer. I hope you enjoy it.
`Once Upon A Dream'
“I'm home.” Kagura yelled throwing her keys on the table and her coat on the couch. Inuyasha followed the coat flopping down and stretched out, helping himself to the remote.
“Hi, sweetie. Is Inuyasha with you?” Her mom yelled back from her bedroom, Kagura guessed.
“Yea, I'm here.” He burped loudly after that and Kagura threw a magazine at him.
“Say `excuse me,'” She demanded.
“No, wench.”
“Say it.” She said muffled since her teeth were gritted.
“Nope, not doing it.” Inuyasha said sitting back with his hands behind his head, feet propped up on the coffee table. “You can't make me do anything. I'm a free spirit, baby.”
Kagura stood and grabbed tightly onto his ear. “Say it, bitch!”
“Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, easy. Excuse me.” He took his feet off the table, nursing his offended ear. “Dear god, woman, I didn't realize how kinky you were.” He grinned, “I'll keep that in mind.”
Kagura stared at him blankly. Then she flipped him off.
“Kagura, that's not very nice.” Her mother scolded as she walked in.
A huge cocky grin appeared on Inuyasha's face but he kept his silence.
“Sorry, mom. It won't happen again.” She said glaring daggers at Yasha and mouthing, `I'm going to kill you, just so you know.'
Inuyasha shrugged, “Sorry, I don't read lips.”
Kagura rolled her eyes, “God, I hate you.”
“Honey, that's still not very nice.” Her mother said absently as she sat down on the couch with them. “Oh yea, Kagura, you got a letter today.”
“Oh yea, who from?” She answered throwing a random pen at Inuyasha.
“There was no return address. I left it on the kitchen counter.”
“Ok, I'm hungry anyway. C'mon Yasha. I'll race you to the kitchen.” She stood and took a running stance and Inuyasha followed suit. “Ready? 1, 2 . . .” She took off running before she reached `go'
He stared after her for a second. “Hey, wench.” He yelled after her. By the time he caught up with her, she was already in the kitchen staring curiously at the envelope. “Is it a college thing?”
She shook her head, “I don't think so. Look my name is hand-written.” She held it up to the light but it was too thick to read through the paper. “Hm. I can't make it out.”
“Gee, maybe you should open it then, stupid.” Inuyasha mumbled digging through the fridge.
“Shut up.” She retorted quickly. She ripped it open and began reading it.
Dear Kagura,
I write this to you now because you are an adult and I believe that now is the time for us to know one another. I spent years looking for you and I've finally found you. The adoption agency wouldn't let me know where you until you turned 18. There are things that I'd like to say to you so maybe you'll understand why I did some of the things I did. I regret much of my life and I hope you've become a beautiful woman and I hope that you can find a place in your heart to forgive me.
Love,
Your mother, Mika
Her hands were shaking as she held the letter. She vaguely heard Yasha's voice asking her what was wrong. “That bitch wants to talk to me now?!?!?” Her voice coming out softly because she didn't want to yell.
Inuyasha looked really confused, “What bitch?”
Kagura held the letter out to him, “That one.”
His mouth made a small `o', “I see.”
“She suddenly wants to see me now that I'm all grown up and she doesn't have to anything. Now that it's fucking convenient, she wants to be a mommy.” She crumpled the letter and tossed it, “Well, fuck her.”
Inuyasha watched her slam a drawer closed and then throw a dirty plate into the sink, ignoring the loud clang it made when it hit the metal. “Kagura, maybe you should see her.”
She jerked her head toward him. He swore her eyes flashed red, “No. I will not.” She shook her head. “She doesn't deserve anything especially my forgiveness.”
“Yea, you're right but maybe you should at least give her some rest.”
“Inuyasha, I know you are trying to help but if I were you, I'd just shut up and leave it alone. I don't want to talk about it. I thought I was done with her and she was dead but I guess I'm not so lucky. So let's just let it go, ok?” She said drawing in long breaths, trying to get control of her temper.
He nodded, “All right then let's get working on my algebra, shall we?”
“Yea, I can handle that.” She grabbed a granola bar before she followed Inuyasha into the living room. She wasn't going to see her. That woman was not her mother nor did she deserve any kind words from her.

“So you're telling me that you get raped and stabbed to death?” Inuyasha asked thoughtfully, “By some guy that you say looks like me?”
“That is correct. You see Lucy is a prostitute at The Red Rat and she meets Hyde and she's all hot for him and his bad boy self.” Kagura sped up getting past the yellow light. “So she's all Jekyll you're so wonderful but Hyde you're such a man. Maybe a little crazy but a man. So she keeps coming back to Hyde even though he continues to beat her up. It's all very twisted.”
“Uh huh, and you wanted the part of the prostitute, why?”
Kagura looked at him as if he was an idiot and the answer was completely obvious, “That's the beauty of it. She's not a perfect character so therefore completely open to any kind of twists I can give her. Plus the one playing Hyde is seriously hot.”
A smug grin appeared on Inuyasha's face, “Well if he looks anything like me then of course he's attractive though he'll never measure up to me.” He paused, “In more ways than one.”
Kagura rolled her eyes, “Sometimes I wonder who has the bigger ego, you or Miroku? Then I realize that that's like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg.”
“I'd argue with you but that's like arguing if whether or not there's a god.”
“Inuyasha, if you are going to insult me shouldn't it make at least a little more sense?”
“No way. I love making no sense because then people can't argue with me.”
“Shut up.” Kagura mumbled as she pulled up to the theater.
Miroku was walking into the door as they parked. “Oi, Miroku, ya gonna wait for us or what?”
Miroku stopped and looked back to see Inuyasha hollering out of Kagura's window. He could see Kagura say something to Inuyasha but he couldn't make it out. Inuyasha's voice carried out yelling something like `don't tell me what to do, wench'. He tried not to laugh as Kagura started closing the window on him making him try to kick her and she kept rolling it up.
“Ow, ow, ow, that smarts wench.” He winced as he saw Inuyasha's hair get caught and pulled by Kagura. Ouch, the curse of having long hair. “Fine. I'm sorry. I won't stick my head out of your window again.”
She rolled the window down and Inuyasha removed himself from it, rolling it back up, Kagura turned her car off and walked to Miroku leaving Inuyasha behind.
“Wait a minute, will ya?” Inuyasha yelled after them.
Kagura sighed, “You know sometimes I wish he had a shock collar and maybe a leash or a muzzle. Yes, a muzzle would be good.”
“Somehow I don't think even that could deter that huge mouth.”
Inuyasha sneezed as he caught up with them. “Were you guys talking about me?”
“No, of course not. What could we possibly say about you?” Kagura said dryly.
“That's what I thought.” He said haughtily opening the door for her. “Wait a minute. Was that sarcasm I heard?”
“I sure hope so because I was laying it on pretty thick.” She commented as she walked through the door with Miroku following, laughing loudly.
“Ok, let's get started.” Houjo said loudly, demanding the attention of the cast. “I don't like to do things uniformly here so let's start with what's going to be the hardest scene to block. Everyone whom is village people please make your way to the stage.”
About fifteen or twenty people got up; most of them double cast and crowded the stage. Inuyasha leaned over to Kagura, “What's blocking?”
Kagura rolled her eyes, “Are you serious?”
“Yes, I'm serious. And don't laugh at me.” He added quickly when Kagura started to crack a smile.
“No, it's ok. I've just done theater so long I forget that there are people who are just not as well versed as I am.”
“Before your head gets any bigger could you explain?” Inuyasha said, this time rolling his eyes back.

“Well you see, Inuyasha dear, blocking is a term used often on the stage. It's not very complicated at all.”
Inuyasha stared at her. Blink. Pause. Blink. Another pause. Blink, blink. “Kagura shut the hell up.”
She laughed, “I'm sorry. I'm just kidding, all it is, is another term for where you stand and places you move to. Nothing more.” She lifted her script to leaf though it and find where the `Façade' first appeared. “You know you shouldn't be so sensitive about things you don't know. You're too angry.”
“Oh, hells no. You are lecturing me about being angry. Pot, this is Kettle.” Inuyasha interrupted.
“He does have a point, you know.” Miroku said interjecting his opinion.

“Um, Miroku, why do you have a hand print on her face?” Kagura asked absently.
He feigned innocence, “I have no idea. I was just standing there minding my own business and suddenly this girl out of nowhere just attacked me.”
Inuyasha choked, “You're kidding me right.”
Miroku shrugged, “I kid you not.”
Kagura shook her head, “Shut up, Miroku. You know no one believes you anymore. Not after the whole near law suit situation.”
Miroku shot his hands up in defense, “Ok, that was so not my fault.” He said absently as he rose to block a new scene.
Inuyasha started laughing, “Man, you're stupid.” Like a little kid, the man occupying the stage distracted Inuyasha. “So is that the guy, you were saying looked like me?” Inuyasha asked indicating to Sesshoumaru.
She nodded, “Yea, it is. Except now that I look at both of you, I guess you only look a little similar.”
“Damn right. I don't look anything like him.” He watched him arguing with the director, “He's too prissy looking.”
Kagura rolled her eyes, “Oh, he is not. You're just jealous.”
He stared at her again. Blink. Pause. Blink again. “No.”
She nodded, “Yea, it is. Except now that I look at both of you, I guess you only look a little similar.”

He stared at her again. Blink. Pause. Blink again. “No.”
“You're infuriating.” Man, how she hated that stare. It was so innocent it was painful. And if it wasn't innocent then he was pinning her with this `are you retarded?' look. Kagura turned her attention back to the stage. Houjo was looking over his notes, probably trying to decipher them. In an effort to amuse himself, Miroku was skipping around the stage and Sesshoumaru was just shaking his head.
“He truly is an idiot.” Kagura said more to herself.
“Yea but he's amusing as hell.” Kagura laughed at Inuyasha's obvious enjoyment.
“He truly is an idiot.” Kagura said more to herself.
“Yea but he's amusing as hell.” Kagura laughed at Inuyasha's obvious enjoyment.
“Um, Kagome and Kagura, have you guys practiced In His Eyes on your own at all?” Houjo asked still occupied with the people on stage.
“A little.” Kagome yelled from some unknown spot.
“Yea, I know it pretty well.” Kagura answered, trying to keep Inuyasha from hitting Miroku. Maybe next time they shouldn't sit so close to the stage. Apparently Inuyasha takes offence to being called gay.
“Ok, why don't you two take the warm up room and practice that a little.” At one point someone was picking some other villager and spinning them around. “Hey, hey, stop that. That's unsafe.” Houjo yelled running toward them before an accident happened, “Oh, and see if you can find someone who can play the piano to help you.”
Kagura nodded and waved to Kagome, indicating her to go ahead to the warm up room. “If you know how to check, see if the pianos in tune. I'll see if I can find somebody who knows how to play.” Kagome nodded and headed off. “Anybody here have any basic piano skills?” Kagura yelled out from in front of the audience.

Two people raised their hands. Kagura resisted the urge to groan. One person was Kouga and she thought it best that they not put Kouga and Kagome in the same room. Murder was annoying to have one's criminal record. The second was Mr. I'm better than everyone else and I know it and flaunt it. She sighed, “Come on, Sesshoumaru, we need your help.” She grimaced inwardly; somehow she was going to regret this.
He nodded and started walking toward her, she turned to tell Inuyasha where she was going but he was gone. She looked around, so was Miroku. That's odd, she thought, where could they have gone. Following Sesshoumaru, she thought about where they would have gone. Did Miroku say something about needing to get something? She almost thought she might have overheard him saying something to Inuyasha about it but she wasn't really paying attention.
“So, Kagura, how well do you know this song?” Kagome asked cheerfully, she then noticed Sesshoumaru following behind her. “Oh, hi Sesshoumaru. I take it you play the piano.”
He didn't answer her, merely kept a cold stare as his eyes scanned the room, judging its appearance. Kagura ignored him; “I know it as I've heard it on the CD. I've never actually sang it to a piano or anything like that.”
Sesshoumaru sat down at the piano, watching Kagura. He nodded and played the first note and began playing the intro. Moving her hands like she was counting, Kagura pointed to Kagome when her part came in. She closed her eyes and began singing, “I sit and watch the rain and see my tears run down the window pane.”
Kagome stopped and Kagura jumped in with the next line, “I sit and watch the sky and I can hear it breathe a sigh.”
“I think of him, how we were.”
“And when I think of him, I remember.”
They came together, their voices becoming one as they joined notes. “Remember.” The piano stopped and Sesshoumaru looked slightly surprised.
Kagura looked at him, eyebrows raised in question, “Is there a reason you stopped?”
“Did Houjo listen to you together before he cast you?”
Kagome shook her head, “No, we never sang together.”
Sesshoumaru nodded, “I thought so.” He started playing again where they left off.
“Wait a minute, why do you ask?” Kagura said not taking her cue in the song.

“Nothing, it's not important.”
Kagura stared at him, hands on her hips. “Liar.” Kagome giggled but quickly covered her mouth. “You wouldn't have stopped otherwise.”
He rolled his eyes but humored her anyway. “Fine, it's just that your voices blend way too well for it to be an accident.”
Kagura laughed, “Did the Great Sesshoumaru just give out a compliment?”
He stared her, “I never said it sounded good merely that it blended. You could both sound awful together.”
Kagura started laughing harder, “My God, you're more childish than Inuyasha.”
“Don't compare me to him.” Sesshoumaru said coldly.
Kagura stopped laughing, “Why? Do you know him?”
Sesshoumaru stared into her eyes like he was trying to read her mind, “We have a past, although he may not know it.”
“Really? And what kind of past would that be?” Kagura asked, chewing her bottom lip. Her hands returned to her hips in a stance of defiance.
“It's really none of your business, now is it?” He answered; giving her the same defiant stare she was giving him.
Like wolves fighting over the same prey they stared at each other, both daring each other to give first. Kagome cleared her throat, as if it would clear away the tension, too. Both wolves shot her a look of anger but Kagura's passed quicker than Sesshoumaru's.
“Sorry, we need to continue.” She shot Sesshoumaru a look as if to remind him that this was not over.
A knock sounded on the door. “Houjo wants you guys on stage.” Came through the door.
“Damn it, I wanted to get through it at least once.”
“It's your fault, Kagura, maybe you should let things go when I tell you to.”
Kagome eyes widened but she didn't say anything. Kagura shrugged, “Go to hell.” She said simply and walked away leaving a silenced Sesshoumaru and Kagome giggling and trailing after Kagura.
“Kagome, sing Once Upon A Dream for me real quick.” Houjo asked her as she reached the stage. “I want to see how much we need to work on this.”
Kagura stared at him, hands on her hips. “Liar.” Kagome giggled but quickly covered her mouth. “You wouldn't have stopped otherwise.”

She nodded to the piano player, tapping her hand to keep the beat, “When it's all began,
We knew there'd be a price…”
Kagura watched her, walking back to where she had last seen Miroku and Inuyasha. `I wonder where those idiots went?' Kagura thought to herself as she sat down. As if on cue, Miroku and Inuyasha came striding in, both bearing large grins. She groaned, “All right, what the hell did you two do?”
“Kagura, how could you say such a thing?” Miroku asked, pointing to his head. “Don't you see the halos above our heads?” Following along, Inuyasha put his hands in a prayer position and nodded vigorously.
“Oh, don't give me that bull. Where'd you guys go?” Kagura asked, crossing her arms and eyeing them both.
“Merely to buy ourselves a form of entertainment.” Miroku said shrugging.

Kagura grinned, “Did you really?”
“Yes, we did.” Miroku stuck his hands behind his head and laid back on his chair. “My house this weekend, just the four of us?”
Kagura furrowed her brows in thought, “Yea, that should be cool.”
Miroku laughed, “Hell yes. Right, Inuyasha?” No answer came. Miroku looked at him, he wasn't paying attention. “Right, Inuyasha?” Still no answer, Inuyasha was focused on the stage and nothing else.
Kagura followed his line of sight. He was watching Kagome singing, his face was intent on her alone.
“Inuyasha?” Miroku said loudly, snapping his fingers in front of his face. “Earth to Dumb ass. We`re still here.”
Kagura flinched for Miroku expecting Inuyasha to hit him but he didn't. Instead he looked at Kagura and it pained her to see his face. His eyes seemed so sad. “Who is that, Kagura?” He asked quietly, his eyes returning to the stage.
“Her name's Kagome, Inuyasha. She's playing Emma, the one who marries Dr. Jekyll.” Kagura answered in the same quiet tone. She didn't like his face. He was thinking of Kikyo. “No, she's not Kikyo in disguise.”
He turned to her quickly tearing his eyes from Kagome, who was still singing. “I never said she was.” Anger covered his serene expression, “Where the hell did that come from?”
“Yes, we did.” Miroku stuck his hands behind his head and laid back on his chair. “My house this weekend, just the four of us?”

“Just stop it, Yasha. I know exactly what you were thinking. She's not anything like Kikyo so get that thought right out of your head.” She said calmly. “If you're in that mind set, don't even go talk to her.”
Inuyasha looked at her annoyed but didn't answer her. So Kagura was right. He was thinking of Kikyo. Kagura stood up, “I have to go to the bathroom.” Inuyasha ignored her. She stared at him for a second, “Idiot.” She mumbled as she walked away.
“She's pretty.”
“Yea, she is.” Inuyasha answered.
“Inuyasha, I seriously wonder if you were dropped on your head as a child sometimes.” Miroku said shaking his head.
“What are you talking about?” Inuyasha said surprised.

“Never mind.” Miroku said shaking his head, “Well, go to talk to her dumb ass.”
At that comment Inuyasha shot him a glare but didn't hit him. Instead he rose to meet Kagome as she skipped off stage humming. Kagura walked past her onto the stage, Houjo wanted her to block the scene with Spider, her boss at the Red Rat Inn.

“You're name is Kagome, right?” Inuyasha asked leaning casually against the wall. He left his hair down that day and it flowed down his back.
She smiled, “Yea, I am. And you're Kagura's friend, right?” She said taking the same casual lean against the wall opposite of him.
He shook his head, “You know it used to be that she was known as Inuyasha's friend not the other way around. It's a damn shame when a pretty girl only knows you as her girlfriend's friend.” He sighed loudly to express his despair.
She smiled, “So is there any particular reason you wanted to know my name?” He looked at her surprised. “Or do you ask everybody's name for no reason.”
“Well, you see, Kagome, I saw the way you were checking me out and I wanted to save you the embarrassment of coming up and talking to me. So I came to you so, you know, you didn't have to ask for my phone number.” He said, his smile cocky.
Kagome rolled her eyes, “Is that the best you got?”
“Hey, you were the one checking me out. I could see it in your eyes when you were singing. That dream you were singing about was me.” He grinned, “I'm psychic, you know.”
Kagome stared at him, “Good then you'll be able to predict this. Next time, sugar, when you want to ask me out, just do it. Making your head bigger does not do any favor for your looks.” With that she turned on a heel and walked away.
Inuyasha's jaw dropped as he stared after her. Kagura appeared at his side, “Catching flies or something, Yasha?”
He shook his head, “No, she's interesting. She's got more of an attitude than she first appears.” A lot more attitude. When he had seen her sing, the only thing he could think about was how innocent and beautiful she looked all at once.
Kagura shrugged, “Probably.”
“Yea, not everyone's a complete bitch all the time like our Kagura here.” Miroku interjected as he joined them. She merely flipped him off. “So are we going, then?”
Kagura nodded. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Sesshoumaru coming toward them. She swore inwardly. What did he want?
“Inuyasha Young?” Sesshoumaru asked he stepped up to their group.
Inuyasha barely looked at him, “Yea, what of it?”
“Inuyasha, do you remember our father?” His face not showing any emotion as is usual for Sesshoumaru.
“Not really.” He jerked his head toward, this time actually looking at him, “Wait, what do you mean `our' father?”
“Our father, you idiot.” He rolled his eyes as if it was obvious that they are brothers. “We share a father, dog, different mothers, of course.”
“You're shitting me, right?” Inuyasha asked, laughing, indicated to Miroku, “He put you up to this, right?”
“Um, Yasha I think he might be telling the truth.” Kagura said quietly, “How many people do you know with white hair.”
Inuyasha stopped his laughter to think about this. “Shit, you are serious.”
Sesshoumaru nodded, rolling his eyes. “Why would I take the time to play a joke on someone as insignificant as you?”
Inuyasha rolled his eyes right back, “Ok, so even if I believe that we're brothers.”
“Half brothers.” Sesshoumaru quickly interjected.
He stared at him, “Whatever. Big flippin' deal. What do you want?”
Sesshoumaru sighed, “You see there's a thing called an inheritance from our father but I'm not allowed to collect it without my brother.” He sighed, “For some reason, Father decided that we had to be friends.”
Inuyasha started laughing. “Or not. Sorry but I'm not doing it. I don't even know if it's true or not.”
“Inuyasha, do not deny your heritage. Do this for your father.”
“No, you're doing this for you and I'm not doing it. I have parents and I'm keeping it that way.” Inuyasha said calmly.
“Damn it, it's your fault he's dead.” Sesshoumaru said, anger starting to fill his voice.
Inuyasha watched him saying nothing. He shook his head, “Sesshoumaru, I don't know what you're talking about.” With that he walked away. Kagura glanced at Miroku and he shrugged, walking after him.
Sesshoumaru looked offended when Kagura made eye contact with him. “This Sesshoumaru is not going to let this go.”
Kagura shook her head, “Why are you so mad?” She asked genuinely curious. It wasn't usual for him to show so much emotion.
“Because after my father thought it'd be fun to leave my mother and marry some tramp, my mother died.”
“Sesshoumaru, you can't blame her death on Inuyasha.” She said softly, trying not to roll her eyes.
“I can do whatever I want. After he left things got bad. They . . .” He cut off short, like he thought he had already told her too much. “Never mind. It's really none of your business.”
Kagura sighed, “So what do you want with Inuyasha?”
Sesshoumaru eyed her, “I want him to take a blood test to prove he's my brother and for him to come with me to get the inheritance. I'm sick of waiting for it.”
“Whatever.” Kagura walked outside, joining Inuyasha and Miroku who were leaning against her car.
“Why don't you want to get this inheritance he keeps talking about?” Miroku asked Inuyasha who was sulking with his hands in his pocket.
“Because, Miroku, I don't want to.” He said softly.
“But why not?” Miroku begged, getting aggravated.
“Because, Miroku, he doesn't want to bring out the past. Imagine what that will do to Aiko when she has to once again think about how Inuyasha is not really her baby.” Kagura said calmly, unlocking the doors.
Miroku looked at Inuyasha who nodded his agreement. “That's love, Inuyasha. That's love.”
They dropped Miroku off, conversation soon ending after that. "You're positive you don't want to check out this whole inheritance thing because some of that is probably yours."
Inuyasha sighed, "I don't think I care. True he was my father but then I again he's merely a name and I don't even know his true name. I'm not taking things from someone I never knew." A hint of a smile played on his face, "Plus I don't like this Sesshoumaru guy and this is pissing him off and for some sick reason I'm enjoying it."
Kagura laughed, "You would find someone else's misery amusing, you sick-o."
He grinned, "Yea, I do except maybe for your misery."
"Oh, really and why is that?"
"Because when you are unhappy, you make sure everyone is as well." He said simply.
"Shut up." She took a turn really fast making Inuyasha's head hit the window, "I'll show you miserable."
He rubbed his tender head, "You are a mean mean woman, you know that?"
"Yea, I do."

He laughed as Kagura pulled into his drive, “I'm just dropping you off. I have to get back home and finish some homework.”
He nodded, “See you, Kagura.” She watched him jog up to his house, pulling the hidden key from under the mat to open his door. Locked out again, stupid, she thought as she shifted into drive.
She hoped Inuyasha was going to be ok. He talked about his parents less than he talked about Kikyo and now Sesshoumaru had to come and screw it up. And Sesshoumaru amazed her. He was so angry, that was more emotion that she had ever seen. Apparently he had a lot of resentment toward Yasha's real mom. He has some serious issues.
“Who doesn't?” She asked herself out loud as she pulled up into her own driveway.
