The Little Things

Kagura watched silently from the behind the curtain as Miroku ran his rapier through Sesshoumaru. Her character had been killed ages ago. Miroku fell to his knees, crying in anguish but fulfilling his promise to his best friend.

Kagura mouthed the words along with Kagome as she pulled Sesshoumaru's head into her lap. He reached for her face saying her name over and over again.

Kagome wiped his hair from his brow. “Go to sleep, my tormented love.” She said softly as she leaned forward to kiss him on the mouth. The lights went down as the audience exploded into applause.

As they applauded the cast members ran out for their bows, Kagura and Kagome ran out on both sides of Sesshoumaru, grins spread across both their faces. When they finished their last bows, Kagura followed Kagome out into the lobby.

“I can't believe it's over.” Kagome said quietly as audience members shook their hands and congratulated them.

Kagura smiled. “I'm going to miss it.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“Wait. It or them?” Kagome asked, grinning.

“Oh, definitely it. I don't do them.” Kagura said, plainly shuddering a little.

Miroku swaggered over wrapping his arms around both girls. “All right, ladies, you can now profess your love to me.”

“And what makes you think we'd do that, lecher?” Kagura asked dryly.

“Because before it was inprofessional, er, unprofessional to have, let's say relations with your fellow cast mates but now it's all right. I understand. You can't resist me.” Miroku said casually, shrugging and using those annoying hand gestures that Kagura that finds extremely aggravating.

As if on cue, Kagura and Kagome both gave the Inuyasha stare. Stare, blink, then a pause. Another blink, slight pause, blink.

Miroku looked back and forth, shuddered and walked away muttering something about odd girls and spending too much time with Inuyasha.

Sesshoumaru walked up wrapping his arms around Kagura and spinning her around. “Hey, beautiful.”

Kagura laughed wrapping her arms around his neck. “Hey, handsome.”

Sesshoumaru moved a bang out of Kagura's face, tucking it behind her ear. He leaned forward, kissing her. “I love you, did you know that?”

She grinned, “I lo…” She broke off, falling into giggles.

Sesshoumaru looked at her annoyed. “Something funny?”

“I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's just the first time you tell me you love me, you're wearing make-up.” Kagura said almost breathlessly.

Sesshoumaru set her down shaking his head. “I changed my mind. I hate you a little.”

Kagura kept giggling, poking him in the side. “No, you don't. No taking back. What's said is said, what's done is done.”

“Did you just quote Labyrinth?” Miroku asked as he walked up to Kagura and Sesshoumaru.

“No.” Kagura said quickly.

“Oh my God, you so did.” Miroku said laughing. “Oh man, that's gay.” He walked away, talking loud enough so Kagura could hear him as he left. “Totally gay.”

Kagura stared after him. “I think Miroku's having one of those nights where he moves around and adds brief commentary before he walks away.”

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow. “He does that?”

Kagura nodded. “That's the Miroku version of being hyper. Rather than bounce around, he tries to make everything he says funny.” She shrugged at Sesshoumaru's odd look. “You get used to it.”

“I guess you have to.” He grabbed Kagura's hand. “Let's get out of here.”

“You know it makes you jealous when Kagome kisses me.”

“Ha, except not.”

“It does, doesn't it?”

“Nope.”

“Oh, I think I found another one of Kagura's weaknesses.”

“Hardly.”

“You know, Kagura, that envy is one of the seven deadly sins.”

“So is being an idiot.”

Sesshoumaru chuckled, scratching his head. “I don't remember hearing that at mass.”

“Maybe you shouldn't sleep in church.” Kagura said, smacking him on the arm. “Myself, on the other hand, never…” Kagura paused, seeing a letter taped to the door and a bouquet of flowers in front of her apartment's door.

“Who are those from?” Kagura asked looking at Sesshoumaru.

“It wasn't me.”

“Obviously, Sherlock.” She snatched the letter down tearing it open. “And it's not Inuyasha because he bought me flowers opening night.”

“You could read it.” Sesshoumaru added thoughtfully.

Kagura just glared before returning her eyes to the letter.

Dear Kagura,
I just wanted to say congratulations and that the play was exquisite. You made the show anymore than any other character, supporting role or no.
I also dropped by the letter to see if maybe you thought about the things I said. I know I gave you lot to think about and a lot more to believe and it's up to you how you want to take those things.
Kagura, one thing I don't think you realize is that I'm not here to be your mother because I already missed that chance. You already have a mom and she loves you just like a mother should love her child. Perhaps I'm just looking for a friend and a little peace. Just please don't feel threatened by my presence.
Come see me, Kagura. I think there are things you need to get off your chest as well.
Was the handsome boy with white hair in the musical your boyfriend?

Mika

“Sesshoumaru?” Kagura said quietly.

“Yes?”

“Will you go over there with me tomorrow morning? I want to introduce you to Mika.” Kagura said, still quiet.

Sesshoumaru smiled a little. “I'd love to. What changed your mind?”

“She gave me an invitation to get things off my chest. So that's what I'm going to do.” She said, folding the envelope and sliding it into her pocket. “And perhaps just maybe, I mean a very very tiny maybe, I could eventually forgive her.”

Sesshoumaru leaned forward and kissed her soundly on the mouth. “Perhaps.”

“Yes, perhaps.” She answered back smiling as she opened her apartment door.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Kagura sat in front of her vanity, brushing back her long black hair. She drew in a deep breath, wishing herself to relax a little more. There were some things she needed to say to Mike, things she had to be honest about.

She pulled her hair into a high ponytail and slipped into a black sweater and dark gray leggings. From her room, she could hear the door open and Inuyasha grunt a greeting and Sesshoumaru grunt back.

Since her talk with Inuyasha in her bedroom the other night, Inuyasha has finally agreed to at least be civil. It made Sesshoumaru a little nervous at first but Yasha seemed genuine so Sesshoumaru let down his guard a little.

She took one last look in the mirror and nodded, pleased. She walked out her bedroom, Inuyasha in the armchair and Sesshoumaru occupying the couch. She smiled at Sesshoumaru. “Let's go before I back out.”

He stood up and so did Inuyasha. Inuyasha had this odd thing about being the only one sitting, makes him nervous. “All right, Yasha, I'm going to go see her again.”

Inuyasha smiled. “Just no fighting.”

Kagura started to laugh but she paused as she stared at the two men standing next to each other. “Inuyasha, you're brothers.”

Sesshoumaru looked at her dryly. “I told you that already, Kagura.”

Inuyasha crossed his arms defiantly. “Nothing doing.”

Sesshoumaru turned to Inuyasha. “Tell me exactly why you won't take the paternity test so we both can have out inheritance.”

“I don't like you, Sesshoumaru.” Inuyasha said simply.

Sesshoumaru growled a little. “No, Inuyasha, you're an immature little brat who's afraid. You're afraid of what having family, a real blood family might mean for you.”

Inuyasha opened his mouth to interrupt but Sesshoumaru stepped forward toward him. “Our father was a great man. A man who stood for what was right and you don't even care.” Sesshoumaru stomped toward the kitchen. “If anyone should be bitter toward him, it should be me. He was the one who remarried your mother after mine died.”

Inuyasha crossed his arms tighter. “Bullshit.”

Sesshoumaru came toward him inches from his face. “I don't give a shit about the money. I do well enough without but with that money comes things my father treasured and things my mother treasured and that's what I want.”

He started to pace, losing eye contact with Inuyasha. “Because you, Inuyasha, you had a mother. A blood mother who loved you and then a stranger took you in as her own. What a sad pathetic story. How did you ever survive having people take care of you?”

Kagura stared at him wide-eyed, never having heard this before. “My mom developed cancer when I was only 4, and she laid wasting away for years. I ran away after she died and when I disappeared so did my father.” He snarled as he stared at Inuyasha. “So stop bitching about how bad your life is, pup, and stop thinking I'm just some money hungry bastard.”

Inuyasha stared at him. One of the few thing times Kagura had seen him at lost for words. He screwed up his face a in a frown. “I just thought you wanted to be with Kagura to get her to change my mind.”

Sesshoumaru relaxed a little. “You do insult to Kagura to think that would be the only reason I was with her.” He took Kagura's hand, thoughtfully. “Inuyasha, have you ever asked Kagura how many times I've brought up this inheritance?”

Inuyasha looked at Kagura suddenly, asking the question silently. Kagura shook her head. “We only talked about it once and it was because I brought it up.”

Sesshoumaru shrugged. “No matter how you feel about me, Inuyasha, I don't give a damn. But could you mature just a little bit.”

With that, he looked at Kagura expectantly and she followed him out the door.

Kagura bit her lip, thoughtfully, allowing the silence to permeate around them.

Sesshoumaru stared at her. “I'm sorry.”

“Why?” Kagura asked surprised.

“Because I meant to tell you those things, not scream them at Inuyasha.” He said slowly, taking a deep and shaky breath.

“He truly is your younger brother.”

Sesshoumaru rubbed his temples slowly. “Yeah, he is. I've known who he was for a while and I meant to talk him into it right away.” He paused. “But I started falling for you and I knew that pushing Inuyasha would push you away from me.”

“I think I know what your intentions now.” Kagura said calmly. “I'm not going to think you have ulterior motives.”

Sesshoumaru chuckled a little. “And a month ago, if I would have asked Inuyasha about this, you would have dumped me on the spot. Kagura, you must think I don't know you very well.”

Kagura grinned sheepishly. “I love you but Inuyasha was there first.”

Sesshoumaru sighed slowly. “For a while, Kagura, I let go of the things. My father left me and Inuyasha family heirlooms and I've wanted them ever since he died. I want to continue the passing.” He grabbed Kagura's hand. “See my mother had a locket that they stuck in there and I wanted to give it to you.”

Kagura stared at him, surprised but said nothing.

“I've been thinking about asking Inuyasha to change his change his mind, at the very least for you if not for him. So when he brought it up, I just let go.” Sesshoumaru scratched his chin thoughtfully. “I don't often lose control of my emotions. I lived on my own basically since my mom got sick. Sure, my dad was there but he avoided my dying mother like cancer was the plague.”

“It's all true, then?”

“Yeah, I hated my mother and my father for leaving me alone even though it was me who ran after she died.” Sesshoumaru started the car. “That's why, Kagura I wanted you to at least talk to Kagura because I still hated my father when he died. The last time I spoke to him I told him that he was a selfish bastard for getting remarried. I didn't want you to make the same mistake I did.”

“Sesshoumaru, he knows you didn't mean it.” Kagura said softly.

Sesshoumaru looked at her coldly but softened his expression. “Maybe but it doesn't take away the guilt.”

Kagura took his cold hand in hers. “It never does.” Kagura shifted in her seat, loosening the seat belt by her neck. “You really shocked Inuyasha.”

“Pfft, he looked as arrogant as usual.” Sesshoumaru chewed his bottom. “And as asinine.” He mumbled.

Kagura smiled a little, glad to see his humor returning. “No, I know his expressions. He'll be thinking about what you said to him.”

Sesshoumaru sighed, somewhat shakily. “Let's talk about something else. I don't much like to talk about my parents.”

Kagura nodded. “All right.” She sat back in her seat. “I'm going over in my head what I should to Mika.”

“The truth.”

Kagura smiled a little. “So blasé with you.”

“Well, I hope you've figured something out because we're here.”

“I love you, Sesshoumaru.” She said quietly.

Sesshoumaru reached out cupping her head in his hand. “I know, Kagura.”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Inuyasha sat on the couch, his arms crossed, lips pursed in thought. Sesshoumaru pissed him off. There was no doubt about it. He was arrogant and asinine, and a just plain bastard.

Kagome opened the door softly, seeing Inuyasha pouting on the couch, she sat down next to him. “Something wrong, sweetie?” She said, teasing a little.

“Sesshoumaru's a bastard.”

Kagome hid her smile. “So you say.”

“He is.” Inuyasha said insistently.

“You know, Inuyasha, I think he's actually a nice guy.” Kagome slowly.

“Bastard.”

“Inuyasha, why do hate him?”

Inuyasha scratched the back of his neck. “I don't know. He just rubs me the wrong way.”

“Yeah?”

“Plus, I don't think he treats Kagura very well.” Inuyasha said crossing his arms again.

Kagome sighed. “Inuyasha, if that's the best reason you can come up for hating him then your eyes should be brown because your full of shit.”

Inuyasha stared at her. “That just sounds odd coming out of your mouth.”

She smiled. “I know but then maybe you see my point.”

“He just bugs me.”

“Blood calling blood.”

“Doubt it.”

“Inuyasha.”

He sighed. “It's just, when he was saying he doesn't care about the money. He just wants the things his parents owned. I can kind of understand that.”

Kagome set her hand on his shoulder reassuringly. “Can you?”

“And a tiny little miniscule part of me wants to know if my father left me anything.” He said slowly.

Kagome hid a smile. “Then you know what you should do.”

Inuyasha stuck out his lip stubbornly. “Maybe.”

Author's Note

Sorry for such a long delay in updating. I always say I'll do better and another thing comes up. I've been feeling more committed lately so I hope to have another update within the week. I have a very good idea of where the story is going now.

I had almost given up on my story till out of boredom, I checked the reviews and reread them and it felt so good to hear, or I guess read such nice things. So I became motivated again. I apologize profusely to those waiting for me to update. I have been a very bad Inuyasha fan.
