Crossing her arms, The beautiful woman looked out over her lake and gave a small smile. The tree beside her swayed slighty in the breeze but she wasnt' paying attention. All that mattered as the sparkling surface of water before her, stretching out in between groves of pines, and looking intensely magical. She had waited for this moment for so long, to finally be free. Her long blonde hair, kept back into a long, tight braid blew about her as she suddenly lunged for the beach, her bare feet pounding against the dirt then sinking into the sand. Soon they touched the water and she was diving into its cool depths, clothing and weapons in all. She drank up the water as she swam through the waves, diving underneath every so often to say hello to a passing fish. She was happy, she was in heaven.
A few minutes later she emerged onto the oppposite side of the lake and shook some of the dripping water from her skin. Then, she fell to the sandy floor, a gigantic smile covering her face as she closed her eyes in preperation for a quick nap. And that's when she heard it. Her yellow and black eyes shot open as a distinct flutter of feathers drowned out the lapping of waves on shore. She bolted up but before she could run for the shelter of the trees, something caught her about the ankles and she slammed back to the beach. The long tapered nails on the edge of her long, powerful fingers clawed at the sand for hold as whatever had her in its grasp began to pull her upwards but it was to no avail. She abandoned the shore and twisted upwards to grab and claw at what had a hold of her but the face she was met with made her fall back in awe and denial.
"No.."She whispered but as she repeated the word, her voice grew louder.
"Stop yelping, mutt." A hand reached out from seemingly nowhere and caught the girl across the face, leaving a large red welt on her pale cheek. She brought a hand up to cup her smarting face and growled low in the back of her throat, baring fangs behind her crimson lips. She looked over to the raven-haired woman near the water's edge, a beautiful crimson eyed beauty in a deceivingly innocent kimono.
"Kagura." She didn't hold back the hatred in her tone which only made the woman smile and beat her paper fan amusedly towards her face.
"Glad to see you haven't forgotten me, dog." The girl glared across the way at Kagura.
"What do you want from me?" She spat.
"My Lord has decided that he released you much too soon. You're needed." Kagura narrowed her eyes and reached into her long kimono sleeve. Her fingers brushed up against the pouch's silky exterior and she shivered as the three jewel shards within pulsed at her touch. Before she could firmly grasp the pouch, a whiz of metal flying through the air caught her attention and she gently side stepped the dagger, watching with mild interest as it hit the lake and sank. "Seems you can't do much without Lord Naraku's help, ne?" Kagura teased. She turned back to the suspended girl, meeting her gaze and smirking.
"I need nothing from that bastard! Release me or I'll release myself!" The girl growled.
"Please, you're hardly the formidable opponent you once were. Naraku has the power to turn you into something much more powerful than a pesky bitch." Before the girl could reach for another dagger, Kagura had opened the pouch and dropped the jewel shards from its walls. As they hung in front of her, sparkling and alluring, she vaguely thought of how easy it would have been to take them all for herself but the thought was pushed away as she unenthusiastically swung her fan at the shards and they shot like bullets deep into the girl's body. Her mouth agape and eyes wide in pain, She let out a howl that steadily turned deeper and less child like. Kagura watched the transformation with little interest and when her eyes finally met with the black and red ones of her new co-worker, She said not a word but climbed aboard her large feather and set off back for her Lord's mansion. The one she left on the shores would find him soon enough, if it didn't already know what the Lord wanted.

"I have to go back eventually, you know!" Kagome chided to a sullen Inuyasha, the silver haired hanyou sitting crossed legged and sulking in the corner of Kaede's hut. Kagome shook her head and proceeded to pack all of her things. Sango, Miroku, and Shippou also watched a little forlornly as their friend secured her backpack tightly then straightened. It was a stormy day outside, windy and rainy with the occasional rumble of thunder and Kagome had thought it would be the perfect day to go back home and catch up on what she had missed. But Inuyasha had nearly blown a gasket. Kagome smiled a little as she bent down to pick up her backpack. His reaction was expected but wasn't unwelcome.
"Just..don't stay there too long or I'll have to come and get you." Inuyasha snapped, his eyes betraying his tone. Kagome flashed him a bright smile, one that said 'I know you'll miss me' and nodded.
"Sure, whatever." She chirped then opened the flap on Kaede's hut and walked out into the drizzle. Inuyasha soon followed, ears twitching and a look of pure sourness on his face. But Miroku and Sango stayed put, something flickering in their eyes akin to worry.
"So you feel it too?" Miroku asked. Sango gave a little nod. Her hand tightened on the Hiraikotsu.
"Yes. Something doesn't feel right." Shippou looked up at the pair and shivered a little. The kitsune gave the two a small, disconcerting look before hopping out of the door and following the path to the well where Kagome and Inuyasha were headed.

"Now you're sure you have everything?" When they had gotten far enough from the village, Inuyasha's demeanor softened a little and he uncrossed his arms letting them hang freely by his side. Kagome noticed his change of stature and nodded.
"Yes, Inuyasha. I've got everything. Don't worry either, just a couple days and I'll be back."
"Leave your homework at home. It's a distraction." He chided. His amber eyes gazed everywhere but at her, ears twitching and rotating this way and that listening to far off sounds. The two went back to silence as they continued toward the well, enveloped in a shroud of mist and a grey sky. The rain hadn't kept the villagers from their fields. Many were out tending to their lots while their children gathered various fruit and vegetables. The ones who noticed Kagome pass gave a small bow and a smile, which she returned. However, she could sense Inuyasha's disapproving stare on her back and she turned in his direction.
"What?"
"I didn't say anything!" The hanyou barked. His arms went right back across his chest and he jutted out his jaw like a pouting 8 year old.
"Stop doing that. You remind me of my brother Souta when he was little!" She admonished, before the well came into sight. The closer they got to it, the more and more Inuyasha seemed to calm down and when Kagome was just about to straddle the edge of the well, He took her backpack from her and hopped up next to her. She gave him a puzzled look that turned to one of stark surprise when he wrapped an arm around her waist.
"I'll take you. But just to make sure your mother knows when your due back!" Inuyasha gave Kagome a half-hearted glare, one that wasn't really meant for anything besides hiding the small smile Kagome knew was dying to come out. But she didn't say anything, just grabbed onto his fire red haori and let her black hair flutter up about her face as they jumped down into the well and up into the future.
