Chapter 14 - Kagome's Return
Kagome got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around herself. She had been in there
for quite a while. The memory of Kouga had sent her into a tirade of emotions and brought an
onslaught of tears. She had just sat there in the bath tub with the shower beating on her back.
Then she remembered her cousin and decided to get out and go apologize for her behavior.
She walked down the hall and into her room. She pulled her hair up into a sloppy ponytail
and dried herself off. She put on some blue jean shorts and Nico's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
shirt. They fit into each others clothes so well, they just always bought the same size and kept
everything in one closet. She slipped on some flip flops and headed down stairs.
When she got into the kitchen, she noticed Nico was gone. She had cleaned up after
herself and disappeared. I wonder where she went off too. Just then Kagome got a really bad
vibe. Nico was in serious trouble. It had been a while since Kagome got these feelings, but she
knew exactly what they meant. She headed out of the house at a full on run. She ran in the
direction where the feeling was the strongest. She made her way around the house and towards
the shrine.
When she got there, what she saw stopped her dead in her tracks. The well house was
open and the barrier was gone. How could that be?! Oh gods no! Kagome ran into the well house
and the sight before her almost made her faint. The boards that help seal the well were splintered
in pieces all over the place and the charms were gone. The seal had been broken and Nico
presence was the strongest here.
Kagome noticed her foot was on something. She looked down and saw Nico's bandana.
She picked it up and saw something underneath it. Kagome grabbed the item and saw it was a
necklace. It was a piece of wood, the size of her palm, cut to look like a bone. She recognized it
at once as belonging to someone from the Shinchinintai. The purple star marking on pendant
meant it was Bankotsu's. But how could he have gotten through. Not even Naraku could have
broken that spell!
Kagome felt dread settle in the pit of her stomach. Her cousin was in danger
and now she knew how. Kagome knew what she had to do. She threw one leg over the side of the
well, followed by the other. She said a silent prayer, braced herself and jumped in, hoping her
worst fears did not await her on the other side.
The blue lights surrounded her and she landed at the bottom. She took a deep breath. It
had been a while since she had gone through the well. She steadied herself and began her climb
up the rope ladder, hoping Nico was alright. I should have just destroyed that damn well! If I
would have, Nico wouldn't have been taken.
Kagome began to shake when suddenly she got
another feeling. It was a jewel shard and it was near. Very near. Then she heard it. A horrible
growl that sent fear straight to her heart. She leapt up and out of the well, to be greeted by a giant
wolf and a man. Oh no! It's the demon Lupintoru.
One of Japan's nastier demons, his weapons are poison claws and a deadly kitana. He
used to belong to a wolf clan in the north but was banished when he repeatedly put the clan in
danger. His companion, the nameless, giant wolf could swallow Kagome whole. It was bigger
than Kirara and, like his master, he too had poisonous claws as well as fangs.
Kagome just stood there stunned. What am I going to do? I don't have my bow or any
arrows and nobody knows I'm here!
"Well, well. If it isn't the jewel hunter miko. Where is your precious pack and that damn

mate of yours? Left you to defend yourself, did they?" came Lupintoru.
"For your information, they're on their way to meet me and when they get here, which
we'll be any minute, they destroy you."
"Is that so. Well I'll just have to take your jewel shards before they get here won't I?"
"I don't have any shards."
"Then where are they?"
"Like I would tell you."
"You will if you value your life."
With that Lupintoru grabbed Kagome around the neck and lifted her off the ground. She
kicked the air, struggling to get free. Lupintoru smiled wickedly as he began to tighten his grip.
Kagome took in as much air as her lungs could hold. Please, someone here me! She tilted her
head to the sky and let out a blood curdling scream that could have shattered glass.

~*~*~*~*~
What is with these people and starring? Nico couldn't believe the reaction she had
gotten. They just looked at her, eyes wide, mouths agape. Nobody moved. No one said anything.
They just sat there.
"Is that true?", questioned Kouga.
"Yes."
"Why would you not tell us something like that?", came Sesshoumaru.
"Because you were all so upset because I took Kagome away from you and I figured you
would all hate me."
"Hate you? Because your Kagome's family?" asked Sango.
"No, because I'm the one that made her leave here and made her leave you all."
"It's not your fault. She left of her own free will because she wanted to protect you from
such a dangerous life. What she does here with us is very deadly. She fights demons and goes
after people that would sooner kill her for just being human," said Kouga. "At first we did blame
you but we have all come to terms with what happened and we know it's not your fault."
"Plus if you're here, then Kag-mama will have to come back," said a joyous Shippou.
"Not if she doesn't know I'm here," said Nico.
"Well then, we better get you back to the well so you can tell her to come home," stated
Kouga as he began to walk in the direction of the well.
InuYasha turned and followed, Sesshoumaru on his heels. Taki wove her arm around
Nico's and headed off behind them with Sango on the other side. Miroku happily took the
position behind Sango, Kirara at his side. Shippou jumped into Nico's free arm and smiled up at
her.
"I'm glad I got to meet you Auntie Nico."
Nico smiled and giggled at the thought of her being an aunt and of Kagome being the

mother, surrogate or not, of this cute little kit. InuYasha looked back and couldn't help but smile
at the site. This girl, who had been the cause of all the stress in their pack, had actually caused
something to stir in him. And it wasn't stress or anger. He felt something for her. It was weird.
As he looked on at the site of Nico and Shippou, he got a warm feeling. He shook his head and
dismissed it. She looked up and caught his eye and for a split second everything around him
disappeared. He glanced away and blushed. He had been caught staring. He tried to push it out of
his mind but he couldn't. He continued walking on autopilot as he lost himself deep in thought.
"So, your from a different country?" asked Sango.
"Yeah, America."
"What's it like there?" asked Taki
"Not too different from Modern Japan. Just two completely different languages and quite
a few customs."
"What language is it that you speak?" ask Shippou.
"Well I speak several different ones. But the American speak English."
"What else can you speak?" asked Sango.
"Well I speak English, Japanese, French, Celtic, Houma, and Choctaw."
"Wow. Say something in one of them," begged and amazed Shippou.
"Okay. Um.....Bonjour. Ca'va petite bebe?"
"What was that?" asked Taki.
"That was French."
"What did you say?" asked Sango.
"I said, "Hello. How are you little one?"
InuYasha, Kouga, and Sesshoumaru, even thought they tried to act unimpressed, couldn't
help but slow up so as to hear more of the different languages. InuYasha and Sesshoumaru
especially.
"Say something else, Auntie Nico." Shippou was completely in awe.
"Okay. Nehi uwoduhi usdi tsula. That was Houma and I told Shippou that he was a cute
little fox."
"That's really cool. Do you think you could teach how to speak one of your languages?"
asked Taki.
"Of course."
"How do you say dog-demon in those languages?"
"Well in French it's "diable chein". In Houma it's "gili tsvsgino"."
"How do you say "wolf prince"?" asked Kouga, now thoroughly interested as well as
Sesshoumaru and InuYasha.
"Loup roi", in French and "waya ugvwiyuhi" in Houma," said Nico.
"That really is very impressive," said Sesshoumaru.
"Thank you."
Nico smiled at Sesshoumaru. What beauty, he thought. She is also very strong, even for a
human. Her ability to speak several different languages means she is very smart and she has
knowledge like Kagome. She would make a good mate.
Sesshoumaru nearly fell over his own

feet. Where had that come from. He, Lord of the Westernlands, mate a human. Sure he did not
hate them as much, but mating a human and befriending one where very different things. He
shook his head at the thought, trying to drive it from his mind.
At the same time, InuYasha tried to drive the same thoughts from his head. What is
wrong with me? I barely know this girl, let alone well enough to mate with her. Both brothers
kept a steady gaze on her nonetheless, mesmerized by her.
Nico giggled when Shippou reached up and gave her a peck on the cheek. She seemed to
fit so perfectly into their pack. Just like Kagome. Hopefully Kagome will come back and then
Nico could stay.
InuYasha smiled at having the new member. Taki and Sango, as well as Shippou
had already become attached and InuYasha and Sesshoumaru didn't want her to go. Miroku, well
Miroku was a no brainer. Of course he would enjoy another female in the group. InuYasha turned
around and caught his brother staring as well. The thought of his brother having an interest in
Nico made him a little jealous and upset. He cleared his throat and Sesshoumaru quickly brought
his attention forward.
Nico loved it here. She too, hoped Kagome would want to come back. These people were
really nice. They were walking steadily along when suddenly, Nico got that feeling. It was
Kagome and she was in danger. Nico stopped dead in her tracks. Taki and Sango Looked at her.
Miroku called for the others to stop. They turned to see what was the problem. Nico's face held
an expression of fear and worry.
"What's wrong, Auntie Nico?" asked Shippou
Nico didn't say anything. She started shaking. Miroku took Shippou from her and Sango
tried to calm her. Out of no where, Nico took off in the direction of the well. She ran as fast as
she could. Hold on Kagome, I'm coming.
The others just stared, dumbfounded. Then, a deafening scream broke the air. The others
snapped into action. Someone was in trouble and they had to help. They followed the scream
which was the same direction as Nico had gone. Kouga and InuYasha were the first to get close
to her. Gods she fast, they thought. Kouga called to her.
"Nico, what's wrong? Where are you going?"
"It's Kagome. She's in trouble. She needs my help!"
The others had caught up and heard what Nico said. They didn't know what to make of it
but kept running after Nico. When the got to the well, they saw Lupintoru with a death grip
around Kagome's neck. Kouga immediately attacked, followed by InuYasha with Tetsusaiga.
InuYasha sliced through Lupintoru's arm and Kouga pierced him through the back with his
blade. Taki ran a caught Kagome before she hit the ground. Lupintoru turned and made ready to
swipe at InuYasha. Sesshoumaru leapt into action, Toukijin drawn. He decapitated Lupintoru
with one swing.
The wolf made an attempt for Kagome and Taki. Taki had drawn Tenketsaiga, and
shoved it into the wolf's heart. It didn't stop. With Toukijin protruding from it's chest, it jumped
in huge leaps over Taki, for Kagome. Nico ran in front of her cousin, ready to do what ever she
could. The wolf extended on claw and Nico put up her arms, crossed in front of her chest and
face in an attempt to block. Sango, watching the whole scene unfold, grabbed Hiraikotsu and

flung it into the animal, tearing it's body in half. The wolf's claw slashed into Nico's arm,
causing blood to pour from the wound.
As soon as it had begun, the battle was now over. Everyone turned towards
Kagome and Nico. They were all frozen. No one knew what to do or say. Finally,
Kagome seeing Nico standing there, alive, made for her. She ran over and threw her arms
around Nico in a tight embrace and began to cry.
"Oh gods, Nico! I was so scared that Bankotsu had hurt you or worse. I didn't
know what to do. When I saw the well's seal was broken, I came as fast as I could. I
could feel you were in trouble. I was so scared. Oh thank gods!" Kagome was hysterical.
"Kagome, calm down. I'm okay. I'm still in one piece."
"You don't understand Nico, I thought you were going to be dead!"
"Well I'm not," she pulled Kagome at arms length. "See, I'm here and I'm okay.
Yeah that Bankotsu guy did take me but your pack rescued me."
Nico looked over her shoulder at the others, who just stood there watching on,
trying not to all tackle Kagome at once. Kagome looked past Nico at her friends. Her eyes
fell on Kouga and a fresh round of tears came to her eyes. Nico let Kagome go and
Kagome dropped her arms. Kouga and Kagome looked at each other, Kouga, too, in tears.
"I think there is someone else who you need to say hello to," said Nico.
Kagome broke out into a run, straight for Kouga, who, at seeing her move, was
almost half way to Kagome. When they reached each other, Kouga wrapped his arms
around Kagome and lifted her into the air and flush against his chest. Kagome wrapped
her arms around Kouga's neck and they engaged in a kiss filled with passion and longing.
