Kagome and Inuyasha walked into the solemn feeling house. They walked into the living room and saw Kaede talking to an officer and Souten on the other side of the room sitting on the couch. The mood was somber and everyone was in confusion of what really happened. But one thing everyone knew for sure was the level of anger coming off of Inuyasha was enough to send anyone running out the door.
“What the fuck happened, Kaede?” he screamed, causing everyone to jump slightly.
“Kikyou. She came over and tried to take Shiori. She also slightly purified her in the process. Shiori ran in her room when you pulled up. She is afraid that you will be angry with her.”
“Angry at her for what?” he asked, more calm than before at hearing his daughter was upset.
“She feels like you will be mad because she couldn't protect herself from that crazy lady,” Souten answered.
Without saying a word, Inuyasha headed up the stairs to his daughter's room. Kagome watched him go, secretly mourning how he must feel about this whole situation. It must be hard, she mused, to watch your daughter going through emotional distress about her mother. Yeah, she and Hiten had some problems but she didn't have to keep Souten away from him because she feared that he may take her away forever. Also, Souten may not like her father but she didn't fear him either.
“Mommy, are you okay?”
Yeah baby, I am,” Kagome answered. Putting her thoughts on hold, she walked over and kneeled in front of Souten. “Are you okay, honey?”
“Yeah, of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?” Souten answered. Yeah she knew she was lying, but she wasn't the one who needs attention right now.
Kagome knew her daughter was just putting up a front so she wouldn't worry. She would let it go for now but the will talk when they returned home.
Inuyasha walked back down stairs, somewhat calmer than before but still ultimately pissed about the situation.
“Mr. Takahashi, we would like to talk to you if you don't mind,” one of the police officers stated. Inuyasha grunted and led the officer into his kitchen. He knew this statement would probably be a long one.
Kagome looked toward the stairs with a frown. She wanted to go talk to Shiori but she didn't know if that would be such a good idea. She knew what the girl was feeling as her aura throughout the house spoke volumes. So much despair, hurt, anger, betrayal clung to it. Oh, no little girl should be feeling this. It hurt her as a mother to feel so much hurt in this girl. Her heart called out to Shiori.
Souten looked at her mom's troubled expression and knew exactly what she was thinking. Though she was only a miko in training, she knew a troubled aura when she felt it. Shiori really needed somebody to talk to. `Why should I care anyway? She's always been a witch with a capital B to me'. Souten sighed. That wasn't how she really felt but she would be damned if anyone found out that she a soft spot somewhere inside her. She turned to her mother and looked at her with determination.
“Go and talk to her, Mom. She really needs it and telling by the way your aura seems to be reaching out, you really want to also.”
Kagome looked at her daughter with a small smile. “I think I will go talk to her. Thank you Souten.” Souten snorted and Kagome just rolled her eyes at her daughter's antics. She then looked at the spiral staircase and began to ascend up them.
With each step the level of Shiori's despair grew larger. Kagome almost wanted to cry at the feel of it. When she got to the top, she began to walk quickly and calmly towards the room were the feeling was coming from. Kagome reached the door and walked in. She thought she was going to walk in and see a crying and sobbing Shiori but instead saw something different. Shiori saw by her window, which was open, and she was looking at the moon. She slowly turned her head towards Kagome and the years of wisdom that seem to radiate in the girl's eyes startled her. Kagome closed the door and moved to sit by Shiori on her window seat, but was enough distance away to not cause discomfort. They sat in a long silence until, surprisingly, Shiori spoke first.
“You know, you look like her. My mother that is,” she spoke softly, almost in a whisper.
“Is that so?” Kagome asked, slightly intrigued.
“Yeah, but then again you don't. My mother's eyes are a dark brown, almost black. They are so cold and distant, as though the thought of the world puts a bad taste in her mouth. She also has long and straight hair. She never smiles and sometimes would rub off on you as though she thinks you're not good enough to be in her presence.” Shiori stopped and took a deep breath. “But you are so different. You have blue eyes that show many emotions and make you feel special. Your hair is naturally curly and very soft, almost like silk. You're always smiling and you make people feel like their special and loved.
“Shiori…” Kagome mumbled.
“At first, I thought you were her at the park that day. But a second look proved me wrong. You're what a mother is supposed to be like.” Now Shiori was crying very softly. “Why doesn't my mother like me, Miss Kagome? Is it because I'm the reason her and daddy broke up. Well I don't care if it is! She isn't good enough for my daddy! He deserves someone much better and I know damn well that it isn't her!” Shiori was screaming and her youki was causing her eyes to turn from its beautiful light purple to red.
Kagome knew perfectly well that Shiori was on the brink of letting her youkai take over, as Souten's did often. She let calmness seep into her aura and embraced Shiori. At first the girl struggled but then just simply cried into Kagome's arms.
“Why does she hate me Miss Kagome?” Shiori sobbed.
“Oh, Shiori, she doesn't hate you. No one can hate you. You're a beautiful, intelligent young girl and no one can ever change that, not even your mom.”

Inuyasha backed away from Shiori's door. It tore at his heart to hear those word's come from her. She thought her own mother hated her. `Damn you Kikyou! Can't you see what you are doing to her? Don't you fucking CARE!?” He was fuming. Then he thought about Kagome and slightly winced. `So much for a date' he thought. Then he let a small smile grace his lips when he thought about how she handled Shiori. Yes she would make a very good mother indeed, but how was he going to set about the task of that with interruptions happening every damn time he would turn around. Inuyasha sighed as he walked back down the steps and saw Kaede and Souten quietly talking on the sofa.
“Do you want some hot chocolate, dear child?” Kaede asked.
“Hai, that would be nice Miss Kaede,” Souten replied. Kaede gave her a small smile and went into the kitchen to make two cups of hot chocolate.
Inuyasha gave a deep breath sigh and sat in the chair across from where Souten was sitting. Souten looked up and sighed, knowing she owed the man in front of her some sort of an apology.
“Hey, Mr. Takahashi?” Inuyasha looked up. “I'm sorry for the rudeness. It's just I am very protective of my mom and have managed to chase off every man who seemed interested in her, except you.” Inuyasha chuckled a little at that, knowing Shiori did the same thing. “And I guess I just tried to chase you off without giving you a chance. So I will give you a chance. But, if you even consider hurting my mother, you will suffer the same thing my father did and trust me he isn't pretty when he's halfway purified.”
Inuyasha chuckled silently at the girl's antics but went along with it nonetheless. “Don't worry kid. I ain't gonna hurt your mom. I just want to make her happy.”
Souten gave a small smile. “Well, you have nothing to worry about then.”

Inuyasha and Kagome sat in silence in the limo. After Shiori finished crying, she promptly fell asleep in Kagome's arms and Kagome silently called to Inuyasha with her aura. Inuyasha soon entered the room and smiled at the sight of his daughter sleeping in the arms of the woman. He told her that Souten was also asleep on and asked if she was ready to return home. She nodded her head and gave Shiori to Inuyasha, who carried both girls to the limo. He wasn't not leaving Shiori by herself after tonight, not that he didn't trust Kaede mind you. He just rather her be where he could see her.
They soon pulled up to Kagome's house and Inuyasha carefully picked up Souten and walked Kagome to the door. He knew Shiori was safe inside the limo. Kagome opened the door and ushered Inuyasha in and towards Souten's room upstairs. Kagome quickly changed her into her pajamas and tucked Souten in with a kiss to her forehead. She then led Inuyasha, who was outside the bedroom door when she was changing Souten, downstairs and to the door.
“I'm sorry about tonight Kagome. I really wanted to go out with you. I guess fate had another plan though,” Inuyasha said in a rough tone, a blush hinting at his cheeks.
“It's okay. I know things didn't go as you planned. Maybe we can try again sometime soon,” Kagome offered.
“Yeah maybe we can. You'll call me when you're free?”
“Yeah I will. Goodnight Inuyasha.”
Inuyasha leaned towards Kagome and gave her a feather-light kiss on the cheek. “Goodnight Bam-Bam,” he replied with a small smirk. Kagome blushed as she watched Inuyasha get in the limo and drive off. She then went to bed and fell asleep with a small smile on her face.

Kikyou was furious. How dare he try to move on with some other whore! He was hers damn it! She pulled into her apartment complex and stormed into the lobby. She was soon in her huge apartment, pacing back and forth.
“Damn you Inuyasha! How dare you try to move on! Don't you understand that no matter what you are still mine, you bastard!” she screamed.
“Why Kikyou, whatever is the matter?” came a sultry voice. She looked towards the hallway that led to her bedroom and saw the man she left sleeping in her bed.
“Mind your own damn business Onigumo!”
Onigumo looked at Kikyou with a look of pure mischief in his eyes. “Why you, my love, are my business. After what you gave me, I can quite clearly state that you are mine.”
“Just because I picked you over Naraku doesn't mean I am yours. It only means that I consider you less vile than he is.”
“My apologies Kikyou. I guess I was under the wrong impression.”
Kikyou rolled her eyes and let her thoughts drift back to Inuyasha. `Just you wait, Inuyasha. Just you wait.'
Onigumo looked at Kikyou with pure malice. `Think all you like dear Kikyou. After I use you for the slut you are, I want you and your dear ex-husband dead and I always get what I want.'

Tsukyoumaru sighed and looked down at his wife, Hitomi. They had been mated for sixty years today and decided to celebrate. Now they were basking in the afterglow and talking quietly.
“These have been the best sixty years of my live, Maru. I couldn't have asked for anybody else to spend the rest of my life with.”
Tsukyoumaru said nothing and kissed his wife on the forehead. He soon heard the steady pattern of her heart beat and knew she was sound asleep.
He felt like the biggest shit of the year. Here was this wonderful woman who thought he was the best thing since microwaves, when in truth he was the worst thing since the human disease of AIDS. But he just couldn't tell her about his betrayal all those years ago. He was at a bar drowning in his sorrows. He and his wife were having a couple of issues with their kids and it was starting to get to him. He was on his tenth shot of tequila when this stunningly beautiful woman walked in. He could tell she had been crying as there was tear stains leading down her cheeks. He sighed as thought about what happened.
Flashback
“Give me your strongest alcohol on the rocks,” she demanded the bartender.
“Lady, you might not want do that…”
“Just give me the damn drink!” she screamed. The waiter hurriedly poured her the drink and scurried away. Tsukyoumaru then decided to hold a conversation with the woman. Oh, what a horrible mistake.
“I see I'm not the only one here that's stressed out,” he commented.
“Oh you have no idea. I would gladly trade places with you if I could,” she replied. They soon began to talk about things. Soon they were both drunk and were talking about their personal issues as if they were talking about the news. They were clueless that the bar had already closed until the bartender called out to them.
“Hey you two! I know for a fact that you guys are too drunk to drive and I will not send you out of here to cause an accident. Come with me I got two rooms you can have above the bar.” They couple drunkenly stumbled up the steps and into one of the rooms the bartender provided. That night they did something that would haunt Tsukyoumaru for the rest of his life.
End Flashback
He sighed as he thought about the morning after. He was horrified of what he had done, but even more horrified of the smell of the babe that would begin to grow inside the woman. He knew the child was his because of the scent. He put on his discarded clothes and walked out of the door and out of this woman's life.
He scrunched his nose at his cowardly behavior. He should have stayed and told her but instead he walked out like the coward he was. About a year after that, he decided that he should find the woman but he had no leads. He left some of his blood at the hospital and gave instructions that if it was ever used to have him contacted. They told him it wouldn't be a problem since he was the only bat youkai to give blood. Almost two years later, he was contacted and was told that his blood was given to a hanyou toddler who had badly purified herself. It was a little girl by the name of Shiori Takahashi, the daughter of the well-known Inuyasha Takahashi. He knew that it wasn't a coincidence that the girl happen to by half miko. The woman he slept with had been a powerful miko.
So here he was, keeping this dark secret from his wife and wallowing in self-hatred. Now that he knew he had a daughter, he wanted to find her and get to know her. But that would mean telling his wife and she would probably leave him if she found out. He just couldn't let her go. He sighed at his predicament `One day I will tell you, Hitomi. Then when I do, I will find you Shiori. I love you both.'
