Year: 1740

“Move it, Miki!” Sesshoumaru charged at his daughter again. Seventy-seven year old, Ken’ichi softly cheered his sister on. Sesshoumaru struck the ground, barely missing Miki’s beautiful face. Sesshoumaru pushed the girl hard. He wanted his daughter to be the strongest hanyou in history. No one dared to call her “half-breed”.

“You being rough on your kid again?!” It was Inuyasha’s voice and it distracted Miki enough for Sesshoumaru to strike. Using his super human reflexes Sesshoumaru stopped his fist just mere inches from his daughter’s face.

“Uncle Yasha!” Miki growled.

“Do not blame your Uncle.” Sesshoumaru frowned. “You allowed yourself to be distracted.” Sesshoumaru smiled at his brother. “That was good, brother. Miki needs real battle experience.”

“Keh, glad I could help.” Inuyasha looked to his own daughter, Yuna. “Go, I think your cousin needs a break.”

Yuna playfully slapped Miki’s back. “Don’t let it get you down, Miki-chan. Chichi-ue didn’t give a break from training either.” Miki smiled and went off to hang with her cousin and best friend.

Souta smiled down on Ken’ichi and helped him up. “You’re getting heavy old man.” Souta joked.

“And you seem to get younger, my boy.” Ken’ichi laughed. The two disappeared in the woods, leaving only the brother’s on the training ground.

Inuyasha turned his attention onto Sesshoumaru. “You took good care of your kids, brother.” Sesshoumaru smiled and nodded sharply. “But you know, twelve years of straight training seems to be a bit much. You almost ready to come home?”

Sesshoumaru pondered this for a moment. “That village no longer welcomes me and my children.”
Inuyasha sighed and shook his head. “That was seventy years ago. Things change so fast in that village too fast to remember legends.” Sesshoumaru didn’t answer and Inuyasha knew the real reason for Sesshoumaru reluctance. “Madori’s been gone a long time. Time to move on.”

Sesshoumaru growled low. “And what of your own mate. You appear to be quite over her.”

Inuyasha shook his head again. “It’s true I love Kagome and I envy you. First that human woman Shori and then Madori. Kagome hasn’t returned to me yet but when she does I will love her again.”

“She will die again.” Sesshoumaru said pointedly.

“True,” Inuyasha agreed. “But that makes me appreciate her life even more.”

Sesshoumaru smiled at this. “You have matured greatly, brother.”

Inuyasha crossed his arms. “Don’t compliment me just yet. There is a girl.”

Sesshoumaru laughed curtly. “It has been a while for you Inuyasha perhaps you should lay with a woman.”

Inuyasha looked away. “Not a woman, a girl.” Inuyasha gave Sesshoumaru a knowing smile. “She has a sister... with a mole on her chin.”

Sesshoumaru looked at his brother sharply, it wasn’t her. Shori, Madori, they weren’t coming back. Not this time.

“It’s nice that Kagome finally came back to him.”

Sesshoumaru closed his eyes slowly, she was back. So that means that Shori was back too. Rin looked Sesshoumaru closely in the face and smiled. “It’s been a while, Sesshoumaru.”

“Not long enough.” Sesshoumaru sneered as he shot Rin a dirty look.

Inuyasha looked up puzzled. “What do you mean?” Of course Inuyasha couldn’t see Rin and Sesshoumaru never mentioned the haunting.

“It is nothing brother.” Sesshoumaru looked away. “Where is this village?”

Inuyasha shook his head. “I don’t know it might not be them, you know.” Inuyasha sat on the ground and crossed his arms. “What if they aren’t them, maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned it. I’ll just let it be.”

Rin laughed at this. “He won’t let it be and neither will you.” Rin sat next to Inuyasha. “Do you feel the same way as him. Do you treasure the moments you share with her?” Sesshoumaru huffed and didn’t answer. Rin sighs and looks disappointed. “Sesshoumaru I fear that you will never change.”

Sesshoumaru caught Inuyasha at that village. Four leagues south of Edo, the small place that was tucked away in the pocket of old tradition and lore was called Niishi. It smelled of the elderly with very few children. Sesshoumaru watched as Souta, the most human looking of the group walk into a rickety small hut and emerge with a little girl. She had bright brown eyes, jet black hair and a heart shaped face that reminded Sesshoumaru of someone very familiar.

“Her name is Kamori.” Inuyasha said softly. “Her sister’s name is Amani.”

Sesshoumaru didn’t respond as he saw Kamori’s sister emerge from the hut. The little girl had to be about ten years old. Tanned skin, lovely, lovely, little light brown eyes. Brown-black hair and that damn mole. Sesshoumaru jaw almost dropped.

“That child.” Sesshoumaru said softly.

“I know, they look familiar, right?” Inuyasha smiled. “I can’t seem to stay away, brother.”

Souta walked over to the clearing with the two little girls in hand. Immediately, the girls smiled and ran over to Inuyasha.

“Inuyasha-kun!” Kamori smiled. “You have returned... Bad Dog!” Sesshoumaru watched in shock as Inuyasha fell to the ground, subdued by the little girl. Kamori had her legs apart with her hands on her hips. Sesshoumaru wanted to laugh. That little girl was indeed Inuyasha’s miko, Kagome. “Where have you been?!”

“What the fu-“ Inuyasha caught himself, she was just a little girl. “Stop doing that.” Sesshoumaru shook his head and found his attention on Kamori’s sister, Amani. The girl was standing behind her sister staring deep into him. Inuyasha composed himself and smiled at Amani. “You remember the stories I told you of Sesshoumaru, ne?”

Amani smiled a tiny smile and nodded. Slowly Amani stepped to Sesshoumaru and bowed. “It’s very nice to meet you, Sesshoumaru-sama.”

Sesshoumaru just looked at the little girl, with a heavy hand the inu-youkai reached into the sleeve of his haori and pulled out a flower. Sesshoumaru closed his eyes and swallowed hard with undeniable despair. Amani’s eyes lit up at the sight of the red and white rose that was in the hands of this beautiful youkai.
“You like this flower?” Sesshoumaru asked softly.

Amani blushed prettily. “Ever since I could remember, my lord.”

Inuyasha looked at Sesshoumaru and gave his a brother a I-told-you-so smile. The rest of the day was spent playing in the fields with the two little girls and their youkai.

“It’s hard, brother.” Inuyasha groaned. “I can’t wait much longer.”

“She is only a child, Inuyasha” Sesshoumaru frowned.

Inuyasha huffed and shot Sesshoumaru a dirty look. “You’re one to talk, I see the way you look at Amani.”

“I have patience, my dear brother. When the child is of age I will take her.” Sesshoumaru stated sternly.

Inuyasha crossed his arms and leaned against a tree. Sesshoumaru watched as Inuyasha got lost inn the clouds. “Kamori, she reminds me so much of Kagome. The only difference is the spiritual powers.” Inuyasha smiled at his brother. “When I was first awakened by Kagome all those years ago, I had mistaken her for Kikyou her powers were great. Then everyone mistook Kagome for Kikyou’s reincarnation. But when Kikyou died the second time I finally realized that Kagome only carried Kikyou’s soul but it wasn’t apart of her. Kagome wasn’t the reincarnation of Kikyou. Kagome was just Kagome.” Inuyasha looked back up into the sky. “Kagome was my soul mate, I know it sounds like crap. But that’s how I feel. And now this girl with only half of Kagome’s power has come. I now know that she only has what Kagome once had. Kikyou gave Kagome all that power and after she was gone from Kagome’s soul, it was up to Kagome to build her own powers. The same goes for Kamori.”

“You believe that Kamori is your miko because she is weak?” Sesshoumaru asked puzzled.

Inuyasha laughed at this. “No, it’s not that, baka.” Inuyasha smiled at his brother. “It’s her eyes.”

Sesshoumaru pondered this and walked away without a word. After a while he found his way back to Niishi. Amani was washing clothes alone in a nearby river. For some reason Sesshoumaru was angry at this.

“Why are you here alone?” Sesshoumaru demanded, startling the girl who was in her own little world.

“Ah! Sesshoumaru-sama.” Amani jumped. “You scared me. I was doing my work.”

Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes. “And what work is that?”

Amani blushed. “Well all the children work, because most of the adults cannot. I am a kimono maker and washer. My onee-sama works too. She forages and cooks for the village.”

Sesshoumaru didn’t like the idea of either of the sisters working so hard, they are the first to be matched and many men see them as adult women before their time. “You are not to do this, and neither is your sister.”

Amani looked away. “I don’t mind, after our parents died we were left with our obaa-sama. She raised us as mush as she could. She taught Kamori to cook, and she taught me to make kimonos. Now she can barely move, it’s the least we can do. There aren’t many children and those few work also, the boys hunt and build, the girls cook and clean.”

Sesshoumaru growled low. “And the rest of the villagers?”

Kamori smiled and stood. “This is where the old come to die, Sesshoumaru-sama. And this is where children grow up. I mean, we all have to grow up sometime.”

Sesshoumaru didn’t respond as he stared deep into Amani’s eyes. Amani didn’t look away as if knowing what the youkai was looking for. Slowly, Sesshoumaru could see it. Those honey eyes were familiar. They were sincere and trusting. They were bright and happy. They were helpful and caring, soulful and searching. They were the eyes of someone who had more love than they could stand. It was that moment that Sesshoumaru knew that Shori had returned once again.

“Sesshoumaru-sama?” Amani finally said, bushily furiously at the attention he was giving her.

Sesshoumaru cleared his throat and frowned. “Take your time growing up, child.” Sesshoumaru placed a gentle hand on Amani’s shoulder and gave her a small smile.

“Ha!” It was the voice of Inuyasha, he and Kamori were watching the youkai and child with a smile. “So much for waiting for the kid to grow up, ne?”

Sesshoumaru removed his hand for Amani and almost turned up his nose. “You know not of what you speak, Inuyasha.” Amani looked up to Sesshoumaru and giggled softly.

“Thank you, Sesshoumaru-sama.” Amani smiled happily.

Inuyasha smelled the bear from over a mile away, it was large and dangerous but no danger to the village. Bears tended to stay away from humans when possible but still he warned Kamori of the danger of traveling in the woods alone. Of course Kamori listened to her friend, besides she already heard the villagers talking of the bear sightings. So instead of going out foraging alone, she took Amani with her.

“I don’t know about this, onee-sama. Inuyasha-sama said not to go out alone.” Amani warned her sister sternly.

“Don’t worry so much imouto-chan.” Kamori chastised. “We aren’t alone if we’re together, ne?”

Amani pondered this for a moment. “I suppose you’re right. But still we shouldn’t be so reckless. If Inuyasha-sama catches us we could be in big trouble.” Amani blushed slightly. “And I don’t want Sesshoumaru-sama to get angry either.”

Kamori smiled at her younger sister. “You like Sesshoumaru-sama, don’t you?”

Amani looked away as her blush deepened. “Yes, I do. But he is a youkai-god, and I’m just a human girl.”

Kamori scoffed at this. “So what! Inuyasha-kun is a youkai-god and I know that someday we will be married.” Kamori looked starry eyed at the thought.

“Onee-sama, your very silly. How do you know that Inuyasha-sama doesn’t already have a love.” Amani sighed. “Gods don’t wed human girls, it just doesn’t happen.”

Kamori looked at Amani angrily. “I know because I heard them talking about their plans for us.”

Amani’s eyes widened at this. “You did? Wha-what was said?” Kamori smiled coyly at her younger sister.

“I don’t know if I should tell you.” Kamori teased.

Amani shook her sister dramatically. “Come on, onee-sama!”

Kamori crossed her arms and smiled. “Fine, I’ll tell you. Inuyasha-kun and Sesshoumaru-sama plan to take us when we are of age!”

Amani wanted to squeal with joy but she was always the calm of the two sisters. Instead, she blushed deeply and frayed at her kimono sleeves. “Really? Sesshoumaru-sama has plans for me?”

Amani looked up when Kamori didn’t answer. The younger sister turned to follow Kamori’s frightened gaze. The bear was larger than the stories made it out to be. Or they were just much smaller than what was typically used to scale against the enormous beast. Amani couldn’t speak, she could barely breath. The only thing she could think of was death. Suddenly, Kamori’s deafening scream brought her out of her trance.

“Inuyasha!” Kamori already knew who to call for.

Amani immediately got with the program. “Sesshoumaru-sama! Help us!” Amani held on her sister as she watched as the bear became even more hostile. Amani and Kamori braced themselves for the worse. Amani opened her eyes to see the bear ripped apart into thirds. The blood was on the hands of Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru.

“Inuyasha, you saved us!” Kamori smiled happily as she ran into the arms of her hanyou.

Amani stared in awe at Sesshoumaru. Deftly, the youkai flicked the blood from his claws. Amani looked over the Kamori who was hugging Inuyasha tightly. Slowly, Amani looked at Sesshoumaru with hope. The youkai gave the child the smallest nodded then caught the happy girl in his waiting arms.

“Thank you for saving me, Sesshoumaru-sama.” Amani whispered into the neck of Sesshoumaru.

A rustle in the bushes brought the four out of their little world. A elderly man had witnessed the entire event. “Kamori-chan! Amani-chan! You were saved by the gods!”

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru put their girls down and Amani blushed prettily. “Dousho-sama, these are our friends, Sesshoumaru-sama and Inuyasha-sama.”

The small indescript man didn’t respond as he fell to his knees. And offered his thanks many times over as he kept his face in the dirt. Inuyasha chuckled at the sight and Sesshoumaru turned his attention to Amani.

“Go home, Amani. Remember not to travel in these woods alone. I will visit you soon.” Sesshoumaru touched the small girl’s cheek with love.

“You too, Kamori. We have plans that we must discuss.” Inuyasha glanced over to the groveling man. “But not now, we will return soon.”

“Hai, Inuyasha-kun.” Kamori smiled brightly. “We will wait for your return.”

Amani watched as her beloved Sesshoumaru disappeared. For some reason she really didn’t want him to leave.

Sesshoumaru raised the shouji doors of the large hut and Inuyasha put the finishing touches on the roof. They had been working on this new family hut for months now. It was isolated but food and water was plentiful. They enlisted the help of their children to locate the building site and it was enough room for both families. The inu youkai brothers would steal the human sisters away. And they would live together in this home.

“Otou-sama?” Ken’ichi smiled. “You care for this girl deeply, ne?” Sesshoumaru gave his adopted son a soft smile. “The way you cared for Okaa-chan?” Sesshoumaru froze at the question and was shocked when Ken’ichi laughed. “It’s alright Otou-sama. Miki told me of that girl. I hope she has come back to us.”

Sesshoumaru’s smile widened just slightly. “I believe she has, my son.”

Inuyasha dropped a piece of wood on Sesshoumaru’s head comically. “Get your head out of the clouds and into the forest for more wood.”

Sesshoumaru glared and Inuyasha and began to walk to the woods but not before allowing Inuyasha to feel the sting of his poison whip. Sesshoumaru chuckled at the expletives fading behind him. Sesshoumaru didn’t walk far when the smell of wild flowers caused a pain in his heart.

“Do not do this Rin.”

Rin sighed sadly she could hear the pleading tone in her beloved voice. “I’m sorry Sesshoumaru. I had really hoped for you and her. This isn’t my doing, I wish I could change things.”

“Then change this, right here and now.” When Rin didn’t respond, Sesshoumaru clenched his fist angrily. “You are the angel of death, bitch.”

Rin gasped at Sesshoumaru’s hateful words. “Sesshoumaru-sama?”

Sesshoumaru’s heart almost stopped at the sorrow in Rin’s voice. “Rin, do not return again. And when you see Amani, tell her not to come back.” Sesshoumaru turned to warn Inuyasha that the girls were in danger when Rrin’s voice stopped him.

“She won’t listen to me.” Rin said almost angrily. “I asked her once before but she won’t listen.”

Sesshoumaru turned and narrowed his eyes. “She wishes to torment me as well.”

“No, she wishes to be with you. She isn’t in control of her fate, and neither am I.” Rin felt her eyes burn with tears. “She wants to love you over and over again. The love she has for you goes deeper than anything I’ve ever seen. Please don’t be angry with her, and please love her again.” With those words, Rin was gone.

“How long have you girls been speaking with the gods?” It was a question from the village headsman.

“For several moons my lord.” Kamori answered proudly.

“They are not gods my lord.” Amani cut in. “They are inu youkai.”

“Silence! Youkai do not exist only the gods still roam these lands.” The headsman stood and began conversing with the other elders of the village. Then with a sinister smile he turned back to the sisters. “You are in the favor of the gods and you will bestow that honor upon your fellow brethren.

Kamori and Amani’s eyes widened in fear.

Inuyasha didn’t hesitate to follow his brother to Niishi. Sesshoumaru knew something was wrong and Inuyasha hoped they weren’t to late.

“The gods have come!” The village headsman yelled happily.

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru stepped into the village, their feet heavy. Inuyasha swallowed hard as he stepped to the alter, on it was two little sacrifices. Kamori looked peaceful it was like she was only asleep. He pulled the lifeless girl into his arms and wept into her still form.

“They had accepted our offering!” The villagers exclaimed.

Sesshoumaru was silent as stared at Amani as if looking for any signs of life. The whispers of the villagers cut into his heart. They had raped and murdered their little girls, believing that they would be in the gods favor by consorting with their prophets. Carefully, Sesshoumaru brushed the dark brown hair from Amani’s cheek. She was still warm.

“Gods of Niishi.” The headsman smiled. “I hope this offering pleases you.”
Inuyasha carefully laid Kamori back down and gently stroked the girl’s hair. With blood shot eyes he looked to Sesshoumaru. Inuyasha could see the emptiness in his eyes, murderous intentions was swimming in his heart.

“I can smell who took Kamori. They are mine.” Inuyasha growled low.

Sesshoumaru was silent for a moment. The scent of Amani was all over the headsman that dared to speak to him. Finally, “agreed, leave no one alive.”

Rin overlooked the carnage as she walked through the decimated village. Tears fell freely from her ghostly eyes. She saw Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru standing at the edge of the village. They worked well into the night. Making sure that the men who consummated with their girls suffered the most. Rin jumped when she heard a child whimper. He was hiding and had witnessed the entire event. Rin knew not to say anything about the child. She didn’t doubt that Sesshoumaru wanted the entire village dead.

The girls were buried side by side. Inuyasha let his tears fall without restraint. Sesshoumaru remained silent as he seemed to stare through the stone inscribed with Amani’s name.

“This is wrong.” Rin whispered from behind Sesshoumaru.

Sesshoumaru said nothing as he walked away from his curse.

“Tou-sama!” Souta hurried to warn his father of some disturbing news.

Inuyasha jumped down from the tree he spent most the last six months. Souta had been gone for five of those six months. Souta enjoyed the thrill of the battle. He was a ronin, he had no master and this time he fought for the local dayimo.

“The Shogun has a reward for your and uncle’s head.” Souta proclaimed.

Sesshoumaru walked up just in time to hear the news. “I fear no human.”

Miki and Yuna looked at one another with worry. “And you have that right, uncle.” Yuna sighed. “But these humans have different weapons. The Portugese brought weapons that spit terrible fire.”

Souta opened his haori to show a horrific scar on his shoulder. “I took months to heal. If it would have hit my heart I do not doubt that I would be dead.”

“Otou-sama?” Ken’ichi pleaded. “I have saw what those weapons can do to youkai.” Sesshoumaru looked over to his elderly son. “They will not stop until they kill you.”

“What about you, Ken’ichi?” Inuyasha asked. “You cannot make any more long journeys.”

Ken’ichi smiled. “I will miss you, Otou-sama.”

Sesshoumaru gave his son a small smile. Miki stood next to her older brother and took his hand. “Don’t worry, nii-sama. You will be with family till the very end.”

“Where are we going to go?” Inuyasha probed.

Yuna smiled, “there is a land Miki and I traveled to a few years back during her breaks from training.”

Miki’s eyes widened with excitement at this. “Hai! It was a lovely place. The red skinned humans of the land welcomed us with kindness.” Miki pondered this for a moment. “There is war there as it is here but we have learned to stay away from the pale men called Europeans they keep many different humans as slaves but never their own kind, it’s very strange.”

“Perhaps we should immerse ourselves in the culture of the other lands.” Sesshoumaru agreed. “This world is every changing.”

Inuyasha thought for a moment. “Your right, Kagome’s time was so different.”

“Kaa-chan taught us many things about history, tou-chan!” Souta exclaimed. “We will prosper with that knowledge.”

“I’m excited, anyone else?” Ken’ichi smiled. “I won’t see as much as the rest of you but I would love to see a new world at least once.”

Sesshoumaru squeezed his son’s shoulder. “You will my son.”
