Chapter 3: =Little girls story=

After eluding the insects for almost and hour, Arc had managed to elude the two insect warriors, it hadn't been easy and many times he had come close to being caught, he had barely managed to avoid them and finally find a secure location to rest, he knew resting would be dangerous but he had no choice… sun was already beginning to set and the girls pains were increasing, not to mention her wounds, small as they were, had to be treated or they would get infected, also, he had to wait until morning to find his direction to the village, the stench of blood in his clothes was so gagging to him it would be impossible to find the villages scent so he had to clean them up first… not to mention the woods were dangerous during the dark, so he had no choice but to find a place to rest and get the girls wounds patched and cleaned up.

Much to his luck, before the sun went down he had found a small river with a small cave, it must have belonged to a wild animal but the scents of the place told that it had been long abandoned… only the stench of soil, moisture and all other sorts of natural scents filled the small cave, there he had slowly first set the girl down, took off his Kimono and fundoshi (That's undershirt right?), he used the fundoshi as a blanket for the girl since the Kimono was covered in green blood from the insect he had killed… so he was topless at the moment and if a woman were so see him right now… well, let's just say it would be a sight they would never forget… (LOL)

After the girl settled down on his fundoshi, Arc had moved to his backpack and took out one of the two first aid kits he had, originally he wanted only one but since his mother insisted… well, now he was glad that he had two of them. He opened the first one and took out some antiseptics and bandages, then he moved to the girl and kneeled besides her, placing his medical supplies to his side he then stretched his palms over her body, he closed his eyes as they began to glow in faint blue/purple colour, he was using his holy powers to see if the wounds were poisoned or infected… his mind replayed the things his mother had said during the training…

"Arc, when you need to use your powers to check on injuries if they're poisoned or infected, you must relax both your mind and body and let yourself become one with your inner spirit… it is hard to explain in words but if you do it right you can `see' and `feel' your own powers, when you achieve this you can make them see what is happening inside the person you're trying to help… it is hard, but with practice you'll do it."

Arc understood what his mother had meant, holy powers react to ones feelings the most… now he was remaining calm like the clouds in the sky and was letting his inner spirit guide him, he wasn't forcing it to come out, he was letting it set the pace instead…

He could hear the girls body tingling from the warm feeling of his power around her, it made him smile, this was the first time he was trying to use his powers on a human and he was pleased that he was doing it right… after Arcs arms had moved across the child's entire body, he sighed, he could feel small amounts of sweat on his forehead, he was panting slightly too… he could use his powers yes but controlling and maintaining it was still a small problem, in other words he wasn't able to use them for long periods of time… about 2 minutes was his absolute max at the moment… pathetic when compared to his mother or an average Miko but… oh well.

Arc was relieved the wounds were still clean and not infected or poisoned, he had also used his powers to check where all the injuries where and that made him cringe, there were small cuts in both her arms, some of them were bleeding slightly, then her head injury… it wasn't deep it had to get patched up and lastly was her leg, that would prove to be a problem… the bone wasn't too far from breaking and it would be for the best to patch it up and let it heal on it's own but… there wasn't time for that…

First though, he needed to take care of her other injuries… her face had bruises in it and her arms also had lot's of bleeding cuts in them, he thought while looking through his medical supplies he thought: `Okay, first… take a piece of cloth, dip it with antiseptic and then clean the wounds with it, it will burn and hurt the patient but it has to be done, then, after making sure the wounds are all cleaned up, use bandages to cover them and unless they are bleeding heavily don't wrap them up too tight… okay, that about covers it.' With that, he slowly moved the girls tattered Kimono enough to see all the wounds on her, most of them were in her arms and face and he had sensed her back was alright so there was no need to do anything to her back.

It had taken Arc about 10 minutes to get everything done, though during the point where he had to put the antiseptic on her she had stirred in her sleep and whimpered in pain but wouldn't wake up, after he had gone through of bandaging her cuts and wounds, he to do something about her leg… he knew that he should have allowed it to heal naturally but there was no time, if he needed to bolt out of this little hideout of his, he had to be sure that she was capable of running if needed, so while he had wrapped her up into his fundoshi to keep her warm, Arc had proceeded to use his holy powers to make the leg heal itself faster… as he had kept at it, his mind remembered the lesson his mother had taught about it…

"Arc, remember this, healing someone with holy powers is not an easy task, if you use too much power while healing you might accidentally kill the one you're healing and if you use too little the wound or injury will only get worse… so avoid doing it if you have to, since you're control over your powers is still sub-conscionable… but if you must heal that person no matter what, be careful, you must trust your own instincts when you heal someone so whatever happens, you must not resist your own instincts or your power may become un-stable and that would not be good… so be really careful when if you have to do it."

Arc then though as he moved his arms over the girls leg: `Okay… from what I can sense, I'd say it is not broken yet but it will be if she puts too much pressure onto it… okay, take a deep breath and calm down…' With that, his arms began to glow with power again, except this time the colour was [light green] and the sensation he felt was also different, now he could feel his power flowing out of his body and into hers, tenderly and securely wrapping itself around the injured leg, Arc felt like panicking but kept telling himself to calm down like it was a mantra for him…

He then could feel the girl mumbling something about: "Warm…" and Arc knew he hadn't screwed up yet… he could then feel the bone in her leg slowly but surely closing and healing itself while his powers sort of like `blended' with it, creating new bone, muscle and tissue for the injured leg… then he felt his instincts telling him to stop, so he did and opened his eyes again, he could feel that her leg was okay again and the pain was gone… that made him relieved, since he could feel his body sweating like crazy, that was the first time he'd actually healed someone… wow, and to think that Mikos now and 30 years ago had to heal and patch up entire ARMIES of wounded people… how did they do that? What was the secret to they're stamina? Oh well…

After regaining his breath and wiped the sweat off his forehead, he then looked around him and thought about what to do next: `Okay… let's see… I've finished with her, she should be okay for now… but, this could be a problem, it is early autumn so the nights are going to be cold… I will be alright, since my dad taught me how to survive in cold… *brr*… just remembering how he did that still gives me cold shivers… but, even though I will be okay, she won't be, I would need to make a fire but he smoke might attract those insects to my location… plus I need to wash my Kimono from all that blood on it or I will never find that village and there is a risk that stench will attract those bugs… I was able to suppress it for now with my holy powers but I can't do that much longer...'

His Kimono would not be a problem, since it was his dads fire rat Kimono it could dry itself quickly… so, he made up his list of things to do, firstly, get that blood washed off, secondly, keep the girl warm for the night and lastly, when morning comes he had to make his way back to the village and find out just what the heck was going on… with his mind made up, he quickly glanced at the girl and smiled, the look on her face was different, it wasn't painful anymore but instead it looked warm and calm… he was troubled though, who was she and what was she doing here at the forest filled with dangerous insect Youkai? He shook his head, it was pointless to think about things like that so instead he walked outside towards the river but not before listening and smelling the air for hostiles… nothing, good.

The sun was almost completely down now, the forest was so silent it made his spine shiver with cold vibes, this forest was like a ghost forest, no sounds whatsoever… it was creepy, really creepy… only the stench of insects was everywhere, as if nothing but them existed here. Arc was now kneeling next to the river and was washing the blood away from his Kimono, seeing it flow down the river made him wonder about himself, when his Youkai blood took over slightly he became a completely different person… it made him wonder that which one was the real him? This one or the other one, the one who took that insect down so easily…

What was becoming of him? It was really scary to think what would happen if his blood took over completely and transformed him from quarter to full Youkai… would he be the same as his father? Lose himself into bloodlust and killing frenzy? Feel nothing except the irresistible and un-quenchable lust to kill…? To feel someone's life slipping between his fingers? To feel they're dying breath and blood against his skin…? He shook his head to clear those thoughts away, this wasn't like him at all, he wasn't a killer type… but… that would be no good here, unless he could find it in his stomach to kill someone without hesitation it would be himself that would be the one to die, that was the iron rule of the Youkais in this day and age, the stronger ones live and weaker ones die.

Arc finished washing the blood away and looked at his soaked yet clean Kimono and for some reason began to talk to it, he didn't know why… he guessed it was because he hoped that his father or mother could hear him (This does happen, I've seen it happen): "Mom, dad… it's me, your son, Arc… well, I made it here on the other side and got into my first real fight, I was scared… scared beyond words… yet, I somehow managed to win, so I… I… I have killed now, for the first time I've taken the life of another living being… even if it was in order to protect my own and someone else's, I still feel shaken up… when I think about that blood spilling over me and knowing I had just cause a life to end, it was scary because I liked it… I felt overwhelmed and could feel power rushing through my veins, it was a sickening and at the same time an awesome feeling… now though, I'm in a hostile territory and must get out, though I have no idea where to… I don't know why I'm talking to my clothing like this but… I guess I'm just hoping you'll hear me, wish me luck… I'll need it… love you both…" With that, his shoulders slumped and the Kimono hit the rocky ground with a dull `splat' sound… and he chuckled to himself, his first day here and already he was talking to himself, fucking awesome…

Arc made his way back to the cave, his head full of thoughts, memories and questions… then he heard a small glass like sound and looked down onto his chest and saw the source of it: The necklace… =Shiroi Tama no Kokoro= one of the three most important mementos he had left, the other two were the photographs about him and Kagura alone and the massive `family' picture, the pictures were in his backpack, he had moved them there since he did go and washed his Kimono so he couldn't keep them in the sleeves at that time. Out of all the three of those items, this necklace was the most important one, it held the happiest memories he had about his mate and would be damned before he lost it to anyone or anywhere… with that, he sighed and entered the cave once again.

As Arc entered the cave and looked around, he saw much to either his relief or discomfort that the girl was awake now… she was rubbing her eyes and slowly began to focus them, when they're eye met, both of them gasped… the girl gasped because she was clearly surprised and confused about where she was and who he was, Arc gasped because of the colour of her eyes… one of them was violet while the other was red… what the hell? She didn't smell like a Youkai and she didn't have any You-ki either, so she wasn't a demon… was it a birth defect? Could be…

Neither one moved at all, except that the girl was clutching his fundoshi around herself tightly, trying to hide into it and Arc saw her eyes trembling from fright, he could also smell the scent of her fear and he mentally frowned because of it… though, it was expectable, how would you react if you woke in place you didn't know and saw someone you didn't know either? As they stared at each other for a while, just trying to figure out what to do for several seconds, the tension went tighter and tighter…

The girls was scared, she had no idea who this man was and where she was… the last thing she remembered was being attacked by that insect… what happened? She kept staring at the mans black eyes while tightly clutching onto the warm… something that was around her, as she kept staring into the mystery man's dark, obsidian black eyes she couldn't help but feel a small wave of calmness wash through her, his eyes didn't hold anything evil in them, instead she could see he was sad… why?

Arc tried to think about something to make the tension in the air go away… so he slowly raised his arm and when he saw her tense up, he said with a nervous smile: "Uhh… hello?" The girl was silent for a long while, Arc was sweating and kept thinking: `Great, I just almost got killed and now I'm scared of a little girls reaction… just fucking great.'

Just when the girl was about to respond, her stomach decided to make it's hungry state known by growling loudly… both heard this and looked at each other, after a small moment of silence Arc chuckled and said: "Are you hungry little one?" She nodded hesitantly and he slowly began to walk towards his backpack and kneeled down in front of it, he felt her tense up and look at him with fright in her eyes again but he said with a warm smile and a warm voice: "Don't worry, I am not going to hurt you, I have something to eat here… it doesn't taste very good but it's better than nothing…" (Everyone, I'm not really sure what all dry food there is so cut me some slack, okay?)

After he had give her some dry food, she had hesitantly taken it and even more hesitantly began to eat it but Arcs warm smile and gentle eyes helped along that department nicely, he also gave her some water he had to make the god awful taste become more bearable… though he was surprised that when she had finished her food she timidly asked for more, he had asked that didn't it taste like crap but she merely shook her head with a `no' gesture… she must have been really hungry…

That was also when she noticed the bandaging she had and that her leg wasn't in pain anymore… she had looked at him quizzically and after chuckling he answered: "You were being attacked by that insect, I killed it and while running from it's friends I brought you here and patched you up and healed you leg as well…" She had looked surprised when he had said he killed one of those insects but after saying that he healed her leg, she visibly tensed and began to tremble with fear again… why?

The scent of her fear became stronger with each passing second… Arc was more than confused now, why was she so scared of him…? Just a few seconds ago she had been more comfortable with him near her and now she was scared again? Before he could say anything, she instead began to ask with a low, trembling and shaky voice: "A…are… are you… with the… cloaked people?" Arc raised an eyebrow, cloaked people? What the hell was that supposed mean? He then asked: "Who? Sorry little one but… what do you mean?"

Now it was her turn to be confused looking, there was an awkward silence before she continued: "B…because… y… you healed… m… my le… leg… only… th… the cloaked… people c… can do that…" Then something clicked in Arcs head, the `cloaked people' must be some sort of magicians or something, so when he healed her and told her about it… hmm… if she was scared of them, they must not be very pleasant people… so he walked over to her, kneeled down in front of her and after placing both his arms on her small shoulders gently, making her tense up and tremble with fear as her eyes looked anywhere except him, he then said with a soothing voice: "No… I'm not with them, whoever they are… so don't be frightened by me, okay? Can you trust me, little one?"

The girl looked into Arcs eyes, her own still trembled but her body seemed to have calmed down already, she wondered should she be scared of him? He had healed her leg and only the cloaked people had powers like that… (If someone is confused about all this, just wait, answers will come eventually) but his eyes told differently, where the eyes of those cloaked people held no emotions whatsoever, his eyes held warmth… like he didn't have an evil bone in his entire body… somewhere in her instincts, even though she was a human, she still heard somewhere in the depths of her instincts that this man wasn't dangerous, that she should trust him… and looking at those warm, kind eyes only added to that feeling not to mention she could feel the warmth from his arms seeping through whatever she wrapped up in (Refers to the fundoshi) and the pleasant feeling of warmth and comfort that seemed to flow from his entire being… he's a good guy, that's the conclusion she came up with.

Arc saw her eyes settle down and she smiled shyly before nodding, he too smiled at that, he then let go of her shoulders and sat down next to her after placing his Kimono to dry against a large rock, it would be dry in a few minutes. After he sat down next to her, he cradled her tenderly against himself and his smile only widened when her little hands wrapped around his torso… for the briefest moment there, he felt like a father… `Father…? Where did that come from? Odd, I'm barely over 18… I can't even think about being a father yet…! That reminds me, Kagura and me talked about having pups once… pups, I'll never get used to that word… it still makes me cringe when I remember that day, shit… that wasn't a very good day at all… Kagura, where are you? I cannot feel our link anymore, I felt it in the modern era but now I can't find even the smallest trace of it… Why? Why can't I feel you…?' He closed his eyes to hold back tears that were forming in his eyes… no more crying, now was not the time…

After a moment, Arc felt more memories of him and his mate together coming back and he needed to distract himself somehow… becoming too emotional right now would be bad… so he asked the girl: "Tell me, little one, what is your name?" She looked up into Arcs eyes and after a small moment of silence she said with a small smile: "Chizu… what is your name old man?" Arcs face went into total shock… OLD MAN?! That little…! Well, now that he carefully thought about it, in these times a 14 year old was considered an adult so and 18 year old probably would be quite the same as `old man' in a child's point of view… (Did that make sense?)

So instead he smiled and said with a warm voice: "I'm Arcerdo, you can call me Arc… and I'm not OLD, I'm barely over 18… so watch what you say squirt." He finished all that with a warm and calm voice, first making Chizu stay silent and then say back with a child's innocence all over her voice: "Okay… Arc-sama." (That's when talking to someone above your own status right?) He chuckled, `Arc-sama', that sounded too damn weird… though, coming from her it was expected, so he said while rustling her hair: "Just `Arc', leave the `sama' part out… it doesn't sound right." Chizu merely giggled from the way he rustled her hair and said with a happier voice: "Okay, Arc-sama." He groaned, somehow this reminded him of the stories his mother and father told about Sesshoumarus current mate, Rin… she too had been like this, never listened and kept saying the very thing that you just told her not to say…

After a moment, Arcs face got a bit more serious and his voice more concerned as he asked Chizu: "Chizu, what were you doing out here in the forest? Are you from the village?"

To be continued…

[Colour of the holy power]: This is my version of holy/purifying powers so here's a heads up, each different use of holy powers produces a different colour, usually offensive creates a pink/purple aura while defensive produces a white/light blue aura, there are many others as well but in this case Arc produces a light green colour, meaning he is trying to heal someone, more details on other colours as the story progresses.
