Disclaimer: I own this story line and all the characters in it, no stealing.

Summary: Being a demon was never guaranteed to be easy, there's many things to learn even when you're a young child. Taishi never said she wanted to learn, nor did she ever want to be the Lord's daughter, and being the lone child left means more strictness from the parents that she wish were not hers. Her life is full of conflicts and distress of learning and trying to fill a perfect image of all the others that have died before she was born.

Dedicated to those who come up with bazaar youkai mating laws with no story behind or any information, this will be something logical
and people can use to reference their stories if they actually find it may be useful.
I'm writing this for myself as well, something where I can have background to youkai mating and laws.
Please feel free to use anything in my stories, though I'd like to be contacted first.
Thank you and enjoy.

The first cry of the tenth child was finally released, after many hours of labor, the child was finally born.

Finally, her child was born, a small smile graced the lips of the Lady mother. She did have her doubts on this one, all her children had been born weak and frail, the midwife had been afraid of the Lady's wrath that she had not approached. She approached after the woman's screams and hisses had died, by then, the child weak from losing air that it hardly survived the night. There were nine graves out in the yard, and she couldn't say she didn't mourn them, she missed them. She had seen their beautiful faces to have them be distant memories in the past. Tears graced her light colored eyes, soon rolling down her cheeks and sprinkling on the young child's cheeks.

Youkai, unlike humans who lost their fertility after the age of eighty or ninety, didn't loose fertility until their two-hundreds. They lived longer than humans, which was reasons for that, and like human females, female youkai went through period or heat. Heat, something similar to animals when they go into heat, they bled and have great sex urges. Urges took over their mind, completely blanking everything but mating and finding someone to mate with from their head. That's how she met her mate, she had no intention in staying with him, as heated mating didn't have to be permanent, but he was different. Her mate was good humored, understanding, and a vastly known lord, and she was the daughter of one of the smaller Lords. Her light colored blue eyes went to her mate, his feelings were hopeful, as were hers.

The Lord was far disappointed with the losses, but he always supported his mate, it pained him to see her giving all her soul into the labor to have the child die. But, this time he was sure the child, their daughter, would live. His mate's eyes were filled with tears, her scent of sorrow and want for her daughter to live to see the next morning. His deep purple eyes gazed upon her face a moment longer, eyes soon traveling to their young.

Despite popular belief, youkai could only have one or two children, rarely more. They, like humans, had the same reproductive system, nothing to make them have more than the normal human, occasionally more than two would be born. No more than one lived normally, they were all weak, or even deformed. Youkai, did not accept their deformed, though they were not killed, they normally got dropped off with some human who seemed willing to accept the child. Humans normally killed those children, or they died from their deformity. The males upheld the responsibility to check the child for those things, and if they had any, they were not allowed to be seen by the females. Females normally clung onto little things like that, so, to prevent anything like a deformed child staying with them they had to check. Even they wanted to keep them, but they knew that they couldn't.

These things were instincts to the males, nothing of the laws, they just knew. Somehow, the Lord sensed his daughter would be different. His daughter may have the instincts of both, maybe that was a good thing, but, they could never be too sure. The Lord, Tekenomaru, and his Lady, Kaishino, were far too sure that their daughter was different than the others.
