To Find Ones Self
Lady Tea
Chapter Two

Kagome just looked from the protective Inuyasha, to the fearful she-demon before them. “Well, I um. She.” Kagome didn’t know how to explain the girl because she didn’t really know who she was either. Luckily for Kagome (who was becoming flustered by not knowing what to say) the she-demon stood up and introduced herself.

“My name is Sakura, and I am of the Silver-Dog Clan.” she bowed deeply, “Lord Inuyasha.”

There was a stunned silence. Neither Inuyasha nor Kagome could speak, and Sakura’s head remained bowed. Kagome knew Inuyasha was a Lord, but to have someone actually call him that and then bow while doing so! She was stunned beyond words.

“Stop that!” Inuyasha yelled at the she-demon. Kagome noted that Inuyasha looked as confused as she felt. “Stop bowing!” he demanded of her.

Sakura snapped up and said, “Yes my Lord.”

“And stop calling me Lord!” He was becoming agitated.

“Sorry my Lord.” Sakura bowed again.

“Stop that!” Inuyasha yelled again. Kagome decided she should intervene before Inuyasha got too upset. Kagome freed herself from Inuyasha’s hold (which both had embarrassingly forgotten about) and stepped forward to introduce herself.

“Hi, I’m Kagome Higurashi,” she stuck out her hand “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Sakura just looked at Kagome’s out stretched hand in complete confusion. Since she did not know what to do about the hand she just ignored it and bowed instead.

“The pleasure is mine Kagome-sama.” Sakura looked up at Kagome with excited eyes and clasped the young miko’s hand. “ You are truly beautiful for a human. A suitable mate for Lord Inuyasha.”

Kagome’s face became consumed by a prodigious blush and let out a kind of strangled cough.

“Wh-what?!” Inuyasha stammered behind the two.

Kagome thought it best she intervene once agin before Inuyasha had the chance to say something he would later regret.

“Come Sakura,” Kagome wrapped an arm around the young she-demon’s shoulder. “I’ll take you to meet everyone else.” Kagome looked at Inuyasha with traces of her previous blush still lingering on her cheeks. “If you could, Inuyasha, lead the way back to Kaede’s village?”

He cleared his throat before answering, “Yeah.”

Even though Kagome didn’t know a thing about the she-demon beside her, she didn’t sense an ounce of evil on her. She was perfectly pure. Well as pure as you can get when you’re a full-blooded youkai. If Kagome had to guess Sakura’s age, she’d say she wasn’t much younger then herself. Fifteen or sixteen, in human years of course. Kagome wouldn’t even chance a guess at her true age. She didn’t know a thing about demon ageing. Only that they aged much slower then humans, causing them to live much longer.

Sakura was small for a demon. Or at least she was small in human terms, and Kagome could only assume that meant she was small for a demon as well. Sakura barely made it up to Kagome’s shoulder, and she had to weigh at least half of what Kagome did. She was absolutely tiny!

“We’re here.” Inuyasha said bluntly. Kagome had been so absorbed in her thoughts that she hadn’t even been paying attention to where she was walking. ‘I really need to work on that.’ she told herself.

Miroku, Sango and Shippo were all waiting outside Kaede’s hut. ‘They must’ve heard Sakura scream and thought it was me.’ Kagome smiled at their concern. ‘They were worried about me.’ It was nice to have people to care about you.

Shippo rushed over to Kagome and jumped up into her arms. “We heard you call for Inuyasha and then we heard you scream! We were so worried!” He started to cry on Kagome’s shoulder. She rubbed the kitsune’s hair in attempts to sooth him.

“Aw, Shippo. I only called Inuyasha because I was lost. Actually that scream you heard was Sakura’s.” Kagome turned to Sakura who modestly had her head bowed. By this time Miroku and Sango had come up to the trio in curiosity of the new member.

“Who’s this?” Sango asked, suspicion clearly written in her voice.

“Yes, please introduce us Kagome to your lovely friend.” Miroku pushed right past Kagome and right to Sakura to grasp her hand. “Tell me, beautiful young lady, would you do me the honor of baring me a son?” *Whack!* Sango forcibly whacked Miroku , leaving a huge welt on the top of his head.

“I was only complimenting the girl.”Miroku said in his defense.

“Save it you lecher.”

“Right.” Miroku said as he nervously rubbed his sore head.

After the awkward moment (compliments of Miroku) outside Kaede’s hut, Kagome smoothed things over with Sakura and invited her to come into Kaede’s hut and tell everyone about what had brought her all the way out here, far from her Westland territories.

So there they sat, Miroku, Sango, Kagome with Shippo in her lap, Kaede stirring up some soup on the fire for everyone and Inuyasha hunched down in a corner acting like his usual agitated self.

Kaede handed everyone some soup (Inuyasha pointedly refused) and they all eagerly awaited for Sakura to explain herself.

She quietly sipped her soup and then locked her eyes on the floor as she began to explain. “As I told Lord Inuyasha and Kagome-sama earlier, I am of the Silver-Dog Clan.” Her voice was very quiet, barely above a whisper. Everyone had to lean a bit closer to hear her. “Right now the western lands are without a ruler. Since Lord Inuyasha’s father’s death the Silver Dogs took the role of ruler over the western lands.”

“Wait, why couldn’t Sessomaru just do it.” Kagome interjected. “I mean why couldn’t he take over the as ruler of the Western Lands?”

“Lord Sessomaru was no where to be found after his father’s death. It was assumed he did not want the throne.” she took another sip of her soup. “My grandfather was the ruler for many centuries. But unfortunately, youkai’s don’t live forever. My grandfather passed away just last month.”

Kagome reached out a comforting hand on Sakura’s knee. “I’m so sorry.”

Sakura barely smiled in response. “Now that my grandfather is no longer ruler of the western lands, the other dog clans are beginning to fight over Lordship.”

“I don’t understand.” Sango stated. “Why don’t you just take over your grandfather’s Lordship, or your father for that matter?”

“In youkai society only a male can rule the throne. And my father and mother were killed many, many years ago.”

“Oh.” was Sango’s only response.

Sakura took a breath before continuing, “The White-Dogs are now trying to gain back control of the Western Lands. They are claiming that it is their rightful place to be ruler of the land.” Sakura slammed her soup cup on the floor, sending little droplets of soup in the air. “But if that is so, then why didn’t they try to reclaim the throne while my grandfather was alive! They had plenty a chance! Why wait until he is dead to act!” She breathed heavily for a moment they quickly composed herself. “We, the Silver-Dog Clan, are in an alliance with the White-Dog Clan. So this fight over the Lordship is causing problems for that alliance. Both the White and Silver Dog Clans adored Lord Inuyasha’s father. He was one of our greatest ruler’s by far. We would be content with one of his sons taking the throne.” Inuyasha’s ears perked up at this remark. “So since Lord Sessomaru is...unavailable, I was sent here to convince Lord Inuyasha to come back and rule over the Western Lands.”
