InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ To heal the broken spirit ❯ Inuyasha Tsuki's curse explained ( Chapter 4 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha and co. They are only owned by the great and powerful Rumiko Takahashi-sama. I'm only borrowing them for my own twisted and maniacal reasons....

WARNINGS: (... No It’s not a warning for lemons, what kind of person do you think I am!!! .... wait don’t answer that question. ) This chapter contains a Kikyo appearence!!! Not saying anymore except that I’m only putting her in here to further the plot line.

A/N: IMPORTANT!!! READ THIS A/N!! (sweatdrops) Okay not much to say here. But I do have a question for u readers. I’m not really going to follow the original Beauty and Beast’s plot line; i.e- Boy gets cursed to being a monster, girl shows up years after and they SLOWLY, fall in love and eventually break the curse; but then again I’m adding my own sick twists into it... o.0 (oh boy here we go....) But anyways... back to the whole point; I remember there was a library scene in the movie, along with a dance scene. I was pondering the option of putting one or both of these scenes in my fic, but I can’t come to a decision... So I decided to ask you readers what you think, please tell me if I should put one or both (or neither) of these scenes in “To heal the Broken Spirit”! Thanks!!!

(Oh and I forgot to mention that Miroku’s last name in this fic means mischief ... hehe. Inuyasha’s last name will be mentioned in this chapter to, just pay attention to the title!)

(phew....) got that over with now....soo... On with the story!!! (strikes yet another dramatic pose... then falls flat on her face) >_<;;

To heal the Broken Spirit.

Chapter four: Inuyasha Tsuki’s curse explained

“Well?” Inuyasha’s angry voice barked.

Kagome flinched, quickly dropping her gaze to the floor. She bit back a small whimper as the hand that held her wrist, tightened and the sharp claws broke her skin; making small dots of crimson blood appear. “I-I’m sorry... I... I only was trying to help...” she managed to squeak out. Her hand absently motioned to the still warm potion resting beside her. “Kaede-san told me that you were suffering from serious pains and I thought that this might help....”

Inuyasha gave her a look similar to one who’s been slapped in the face, his hand quickly released her wrist and he edged away from her, still on his ruined bed. “W-what in the seven fucking hells did that hag tell you... “

Kagome looked back up at his retreating form, confused by his reaction; was he trying to hide something? She quickly dropped her eyes again as he shot her a dark glare, letting a small growl rise in his throat. “Answer me wench!”

Upon rehearing the name, her head shot up and she returned his glare. As you probably know by now; Kagome does not like to be called names, nor will she let someone get away unscathed. “What. Did. You. Call. Me?” she breathed, making sure to space every word so that the boy before her would understand.

Inuyasha snorted in annoyance. “I said answer me, Wench.” He emphasized the word ‘wench’, just to show his point.

Kagome’s eyes flashed. She didn’t care if this stupid teenage demon was a lord, nobody, nobody called her a wench! Balling her hands into fists she fought for control over her temper, not wanting to anger the demon before her... ‘again’ Taking a deep breath and counting to ten in her mind, she managed to curb her tongue. "I don't care if you are the lord of this castle," she choose her words with care; wanting to get her point across, but not wanting to anger the young demon. "But I will not answer to a person who insists on insulting me when I was only attempting to be kind. I really don’t even know why I even.....huh?” Her words died on her lips as she watched the demon boy’s usually scowling expression falter for a moment as he clutched his abdomen.

“Sh-shit....” He gasped as he felt his demonic energy surge again. He fought to keep the pain at bay, at least until he had the girl out of the room....

Kagome felt all the anger she had harbored for Inuyasha dissipate like smoke as she watched him double over, his eyes unconsciously screwing shut against his obvious discomfort. Without even bothering to think, she reached down and grabbed the cup of potion that she had made and scrambled onto the bed beside his curled form. Cautiously she rested her left hand on his tensed back, and used her right to steady the cup as she pressed it to the tight line of his lips. “Here drink this, it will help with the pain.” She murmured softly into one of the fuzzy ears that had held her so captivated when she had first entered the room only minutes before.

Inuyasha managed to crack open a golden eye and look at the girl, the small slit showing his distrust and pain, mingled with confusion. He slowly opened his mouth enough for Kagome to tip the cup and allow the potion to flow down his throat. He almost chocked on the taste, but forced himself to swallow it. Almost immediately he felt his demonic side retreating into some dark corner of his soul. His eyes snapped open in shock before he felt a deep weariness come over him, for once in the entire time that he had been cursed, he actually felt like he was truly free. “Bu-but how....?” He mumbled before falling back into a blanket of pure darkness, devoid of the nightmares he was so used to facing.

Kagome gasped as the demon boy she had been helping fell limply against her, mumbling his shock before he closed his eyes and was asleep. “W-what just happened?” she asked the empty room, to startled to do anything except stare at the once again sleeping Inuyasha in her lap. It took her a moment to notice that his face was different from when she had stumbled upon his sleeping form earlier. Then his face had been taunt with pain and weariness, although the weariness remained, the pain was gone and he seemed to be almost peaceful, his chest rising and falling with each deep breath. She stared entranced for a moment, fighting the urge to comb her fingers through the silky looking silvery hair, and rub the fluffy dog ears that were twitching only occasionally.

She quickly shook her head, ridding herself of the thoughts. ‘Idiot! Now’s not the time! Now what just happened? One minute I’m arguing with some stupid demon who acts like a three year old and the next he’s doubling over in pain... Something’s definitely not right with this! ‘ She sighed and her gaze began to wander around the room, trying to distract herself from the warmth of Inuyasha’s slivery head lying in her lap. It wasn’t that she minded helping the boy out ;even if she was his prisoner; it was just that all her life she had been kept away from close contact with men. Even Kouga had not touched her before yesterday. She could feel something akin to butterflies in her stomach and it was making her nervous. ‘I’m not supposed to be feeling this...am I? No. Definitely not.’

Chancing a glance down at the still sleeping boy, Kagome shifted her position slightly, seeing if she could manage to move Inuyasha’s head from her lap so she could go to Kaede. “ I really need to get some answers about this place....” She muttered as she gently slid her hand beneath his silvery mane and pulled her legs free. Careful ;so as not to disturb him; she set his head back down on the thin mattress of his bed. Looking around the shambled remains of the room she spotted what appeared to be a tattered blanket and went to fetch it. Returning to the bed she almost tenderly tucked the boy in so that he remained as warm as possible in the drafty area.

Double checking her work, Kagome gave a sharp nod of approval before leaving the room ;taking the empty cup with her; in search of Kaede and some answers to the castles mysteries.

Kaede and the others looked up as the young raven haired girl burst back into the kitchen, her face tinted a slight pink, and an empty cup in her hand.

Miroku and Sango jumped to their feet at her entrance, almost as if they expected the demon youth to barge in after her. When he didn’t they shot each other confused looks, before turning back to a slightly glaring Kagome.

“Lady Kagome, I hope that everything went well?” Miroku ventured after a moment of silence.

Kagome nodded and went to set the empty cup beside the rest of the dishes; making a mental note to clean them up later. “Yes Miroku everything went fine. First I find that the lord of the castle sleeps in a room with a broken window and runied furniture everywhere, then I find myself almost handless when he wakes up to find me there, and then we start an argument!” Her voice was a mixture of sarcasm and seriousness. “THEN he has an attack of pain, and I finally get him to drink my damn remedy, which for some reason sends him right to sleep, ON MY LAP!!!” The flustered girl finally paused for a breath, glaring at the three other people in the room. “Now I want some answers about this place!”

Miroku had a perverse grin on his face at the thought of Inuyasha on Kagome’s lap, never since he had arrived here, had he heard of Inuyasha showing any kind of compassion or weakness ;except for the curses affect of course. Sango noticed this grin and promptly smacked him upside the head. She heard her grandmother sigh and followed suit. “I guess that you have a right to know what’s going on Kagome-chan.”

Kagome nodded. “I believe I do Sango.” She turned to Kaede her expression slightly softer than before. “You mentioned something about a curse awhile back didn’t you Kaede-sama? Please, tell me what you ment... I-I want to try an help as much as I can.” She finished quietly.

Kaede let out another weary sigh and motioned for the girl to sit down on one of the simple cushions that served as seats. When it appeared that Kagome was comfortable the other's sat down, forming a small half circle.

Taking deep breath Kaede prepared to tell the sad tale of the castles history.

(A/N-I'm going to switch to a sort of flashback mode here because I think that it's easier than going through the whole thing of 'so and so said and someone interrupted...ect.' you get the picture.)

50 years ago.....

The young boy paced nervously back and forth on the balcony, his midnight black hair trailing behind him in a similar fashion. His deep violet eyes held apprehension and slight confusion. "Damn... " he muttered, spinning on his bare heel to continue his restless vigil of pacing.

Suddenly the sound of light footsteps was heard form behind him and he turned to see the dark-haired woman coming towards him, her head bowed and the straight and primly cut bangs hiding her eyes. Behind her was a tall man, his dark, almost red eyes, seeming to smirk at the nervous boy that was standing still watching them.

The woman's chilly voice spoke, "Naraku leave us, I have no need of you to be here. You know where to meet me when I have finished."

Narkaku nodded, shooting the boy a tight smirk, before disappearing into the shadows.

The boy cleared his throat and turned his attention back to the woman, who had stopped only a few feet away from him. “Kikyo? What is it?” He asked, a slight tinge of fear could be heard in his soft voice.

Her face still hidden beneath her raven colored bangs, Kikyo took another step foward. “Inuyasha, tell me... what do you think of me?”

Inuyasha coughed, a bewildered look covering his features. “W-what do I think of you Kikyo?” He allowed a warm smile to appear for a moment. “ I think that your the most trusting and wonderful woman I’ve ever met.... I-I care for you....” A small blush tinged his cheeks.

He was startled when a sharp laugh issued from Kikyo’s mouth. “You care for me? A high and mighty prince like you cares for the lowly priestess Kikyo?” Finally she raised her head and her icy gaze fixed on that of the startled boy. “Do you really expect me to believe such lies Inuyasha?” She hissed, her voice full of the venom of betrayal and hate.

Inuyasha took a hesitant step back, totally confused by what the woman was saying. Lies? How could she think that he was lying? His face took on the look of one who has been hurt horribly in the spirit, and he felt as though his world was falling apart yet again. Something shattered in him, and he once again felt helpless and betrayed. “K-kikyo? W-what are you talking about? Lies? Do you actually believe that I would lie to you?!” His voice wavered with an indistinguishable emotion. Confusion, anger, sadness, anguish, pain? Or a mixture of all five? He couldn’t tell...

Kikyo stared at him, her face like stone. “Yes Inuyasha, I believe that you would lie to me. After all, you’ve done it before haven’t you? You’ve always lied to me. Your nothing but a selfish and hateful, deceiving demon in the body of a youthful man.” She laughed, the sound chilling Inuyasha to his very core. “A demon is what you are Inuyasha, nothing more.” She murmured, withdrawing a small jewel from the wide sleeves of her kimono.

The item shined with a dark-light, and a faint hum of power emanated from it. Kikyo held the jewel in the palm of her hand, casting an eerie glow on her porcelain features. Her eyes rose to meet Inuyasha’s frightened gaze and she gave him an almost sympathetic smile, before her voice began to whisper an ancient chant, the almost musical tone becoming louder as the priestess gathered power. Her gaze held that of Inuyasha’s firmly.

“Silver the color of the moon.
Only when dark shall you find temporary release”

A shudder went through the boy’s body, and he gaped at the woman before him. “No... Kikyo... Please don’t!”

“Red the color of the blood you shall spill
Consumed by your own hate and grief”

The shock ran through his body again, and he felt something begin to stir in him. “Please Kikyo!!”

“Jewel of Soul’s shall bind your fate
Until the light shall fade”

The pain came faster this time, crashing through him in waves. He cried out as he stumbled to his knees, one hand bracing his shaking body and the other clutching his head. Voices were beginning to whisper to him....

“From the darkness I create
A soul frozen in time”

“Aaahhhh!!” His cries echoed around the great hall, a splitting scream of agony. His hair began to fade, the silky midnight locks lightening to a glistening silver shade. His eyes were screwed shut in agony.

“Slowly sinking deeper into misery
Only one who sheds her tears”

The once violet eyes snapped open, revealing golden orbs, flecked with red. A strangled cry rose from his throat as his body arched in a silent sign of pain. His ears shifted, seeming to crawl to the top of his head, lengthening and sharpening, soft silver fur covering them.

“Who lays her aside her fears
To heal the heart that I have ravaged”

His now red eyes closed, and his body fell limply to the marble floor, twitching at slight intervals as the transformation completed itself in his unconscious.

“The injured shall be saved
A love for time will be made.”

(A/N- I was thinking about stopping here.... but I decided to make up for the late update I’d continue..... You guys better love me for this!)

Kagome stared in silent horror as Kaede completed her tale. Her mind slowly digesting the information that had been fed to her.

Kaede gave her a weary smile. “After she cursed him, Kikyo left the castle with one of the advisors. No one ever saw or heard from her again. But it wasn’t only Inuyasha she had cursed, unbeknownst to her, all who were present in the castle at the time got caught in her spell’s power. Although they were not as affected as Inuyasha, some were also changed into demons, but they still held a firm grip on their human conscious.”

After a moment of shocked silence, Kagome managed to find her voice. “A-and these other people... are-are they still here?”

The elderly woman nodded. “Yes, you are looking at one of them.”

Kagome gapped at her. “You Kaede-san?” Her voice full of disbelief.

Kaede smiled. “No need to look so startled child. As I said, only some of them were changed into demons. Others were only bound to the castle, and for some, the binding wore off quickly and they left. Only the ones who were changed into demons, and a few others who are still bound to the castle are here. I am one who has been bound to this place, my body is trapped in time, not aging. It is the same for everyone trapped here, including Inuyasha.”

Kagome found that her voice had once again quit on her. Kaede was one of the people who were trapped here?! She shook her head slowly, trying to clear her thoughts. “Oookkaayy....” She muttered, ignoring the stares of Miroku and Sango. “So let me get this straight. I’m trapped in a castle, that has a curse placed on it, with demons that were once humans, and a prince that acts like he’s going to either die, or kill me every time I see him. Is that about right?”

All three of her companions nodded.

“And what about you two, Sango?” She asked suddenly. “Are you and Miroku also one of the people who are cursed?”

Sango shook her head. “No. Like I told you before, Miroku and I came here when I was sent to search for my grandmother. When we got here, Inuyasha forbid us to leave again. That was about a year ago now.”

Kagome sighed in slight relief. At least she had the comfort of knowing that there were at least two people here who weren’t cursed. Suddenly the young girl felt drained of energy and she rubbed her eyes wearily, fighting back a yawn. She turned tired eyes on her friends. “Do you think that it might be time for some sleep?”

Sango and Miroku laughed at their friend. “Yeah, I agree Kagome-sama.” Miroku replied, standing up and helping Sango to her feet, his hand remained unnoticed on her waist.

Kagome smiled and nodded, turning to leave, and attempt to find her way to the room she had been assigned. Suddenly there was a loud crashing sound from behind her, and she spun around.

Sango was standing over a unconscious Miroku, a large pan in one hand. “Damn you Miroku!! When are you going to learn to keep your dirty lecherous hands to yourself?!!”

Both Kaede and Kagome shot each other amused glances, clearly stating that they both thought that the two friends would make a great couple. Kagome laughed and shook her head. “Night Sango, night Kaede.” She paused and shot Miroku a sympathetic look. “Umm... Sango are you going to leave him there all night?”

Sango smirked, replacing the borrowed pan on the stone counter. “He deserves it.” She said, her voice hinting at laughter. She walked over and put a sisterly arm around Kagome’s shoulder, spinning the girl around and walking her out into the hallway. “Come on Kagome-chan, I’ll show you the way back to your room.”

Kagome bit back a giggle at the thought of Miroku lying in the kitchen all night as she and Sango made their way down the torch lit hall.

Inuyasha cracked open a golden orb as he awoke from a deep slumber. He blinked a few times before finally coming fully awake. Sitting up slowly he felt a warm item slip off his body at the movement.

Looking down he saw that someone had placed a blanket on him while he had slept. His eyes widened as a a few hazy memories came back to him. The girl that he had made his prisoner coming up beside him as he curled over in silent pain. Her hands gently rubbing his back while she pressed a warm cup to his lips, telling him softly to drink the potion. He had drank it and immediately felt a deep calm wash over him. His body seemed to collapse as the sudden weariness hit him and remembered falling back onto a soft and warm body before the silent blanket had overcome his senses allowing himself to succumb to a dreamless sleep.

Even now he felt strangely calm, no small urges to kill, no steady throbs of pain in his head.

Inuyasha cradled his head in his hands, for the first time in many years he was completely confused. “How the hell....” He murmured to himself. Suddenly he noticed that a sweet scent lingered in the air. How had he not noticed it before? Sniffing delicately he recognized it as the girl’s aroma. But now it seemed different... He shook his head and growled softly, but it wasn’t his demonic nature, it was his own sound.

The silver haired boy pushed himself off the bed, leaving the blanket behind, and made his way to the broken window, seating himself on the glassless sill. How the hell had that girl done it? How had she been able to calm the demon within him? Inuyasha sighed as he looked out across the night covered lands. Could it be possible that the ivory mirror was telling the truth?

A low chuckle escaped the demon boy’s throat. Not likely. He sighed and his gaze drifted up to the night sky, coming to rest on the half-moon. He wasn’t capable of loving anyone anymore, he had lost most of his humanity long ago, and what little he had managed to clutch onto was barley enough to keep him sane. Closing his eyes he allowed himself to drift into a light sleep, taking advantage of the calm that the girl’s potion had given him.
