To Live and Die Again
The first time I died, I was alone.
The last thing I saw was the wolves' gaping jaws, and I gripped the cold earth between my hands, and felt no more.
My life was incomplete, cut short. The death was unnatural, unfair even. And no one was there to bury my body or mourn my passing.
The second time I died, I was loved.
The last thing I saw was my lord's solemn face, and I gripped his warm hand in mine, and felt no more.
My life had been full, well lived. The death was natural, though still unfair. But someone was there to bury my body and mourn my passing. And I feel his love still.
